The Gatehouse Reviews

From the moment we arrived the property just wowed. Everything was taken care of for us with even a New Gift for us and our 4 legged baby. Jennie was a pleasure to deal with with excellent instruction on how to find the property and everything clearly labelled inside
I had booked the Gatehouse for a family get together as a surprise for my husbands birthday. The house was perfect. The bedrooms were beautifully laid out and the beds very comfortable. The downstairs open plan enabled everyone to be together and the kitchen was one of the best equipped I have seen in a holiday home. We were easily able to cook and serve an early Christmas dinner. The hot tub was an added bonus and the small games room in the attic would be ideal for families with children. The owner was easily contactable and very helpful. We much appreciated being able to bring our dogs. I would struggle to find any fault with this property good position, clean, cosy with very efficient underfloor heating, comfortable, well appointed, beautifully decorated we especially appreciated the Christmas trees and decorations good secure garden for the dogs to play safely, even a wine fridge to keep our drinks cool. Our only tiny issue was in knowing how to operate the TV after the youngest members of our group went home but thats a generation thing and not a problem with the TV. Strangely our Jack Russell was terrified of the sound made by one of the remote controls so we gave up on that. I would definitely recommend the Gatehouse and hope to return some time next year. Thank you for a lovely weekend
Olivia
The Gatehouse is a lovely cottage. We had a girls birthday weekend here. The host is really kind and accommodating. Living area is spacious and clean and nice, the kitchen is very well equipped and bedrooms are cosy and well furnished. Hot tub was great fun. Everyone had a great time.
Highly recommend. Spotless house, great facilities, absolutely fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by all. I will definitely return. Thank you.
Lovely period cottage, that has everything you need for a relaxing family break
The weekend is something as a family we have needed. There was a beautiful welcome hamper on our arrival. Parking for 6 cars if needed. Our journey was difficult with the weather but the owner was on hand and gave us new directions with the flood. Once we were at the house we had the break away we all needed. The house is absolutely beautiful and equipped with everything you could need. Everything had been thought about to make our stay amazing and stress free. The beds are comfy and all rooms of a good size. We had 2 dogs with us and they were catered for too There is a file with information to help with your stay. The hot tub added to our stay and the games room. This break away enabled my children, partners and my husband and I to all be together and have precious family time after the difficult year weve had. The house gave space at times to be together or space for quiet time too. The walks are beautiful and plenty to suit everyone. I would recommend this house to people and we have actually all ready. We will hopefully be able to come back if its free for our next family break away.
Chiara
Had an absolutely fantastic long weekend with friends. The property is even better than the pictures if thats possible. Clean and well maintained, plus the owners have left everything you could need for your stay, not to mention the Prosecco and chocolate gift on the day we arrived. Have already recommended to friends and family, and will likely revisit in the future.
We had a fantastic family weekend at The Gatehouse. It was a beautiful property with everything you could possibly need. Thank you!
Samantha
On our arrival at The Gatehouse our first impression was Wow what an amazing place and the location is beautiful. The garden is plenty big enough and more importantly nowhere for the dog to escape. Every room is beautifully presented. All the beds were lovely and comfortable however the downstairs bed not quite as comfortable as those upstairs. The kitchen has everything you need to cook for a family and plenty of space for sitting. Lots of lovely walks close by if you dont want to drive too far. We had an amazing stay here and would without doubt stay here again if available. Fantastic place loved it.
A gem of a property, very clean and fully equipped. Location ideal for visiting southern locations of Peak District. We stayed with our dog who enjoyed the many walks around the property. The only reason I have marked comfort down from 1010 is because the bed in the downstairs suite was not that comfortable and very creaky. This would not stop us going again or recommending the property, and we are already planning our next trip.
This was one of the best holiday cottages we've stayed in. The house was roomy, beautifully presented and was a very pleasant place to spend a relaxing weekend with friends. It was very well appointed, everything we needed was available, plenty of towels, great hot tub which worked well, comfortable beds, plenty of parking. The house was also easy to find and in a beautiful location. We would definitely consider returning.
A lovely well maintained, comfortable and equipped holiday property. Plenty of room for 8 people, with ample space for everyone. The hot tub and games provided was well appreciated, and well used. The location was great with trails to explore as well as places of historical interest. The owner's instructions were easy to follow and extremely helpful.
The Gatehouse was perfect! Could not fault it at all. It was one of the best holiday cottages we have ever hired. Brilliantly equipped, with everything you could possibly need. Great open plan living for spending time with our friends. The games roomhay loft was thoroughly enjoyed by our children and the hot tub used by all. Would definitely come back!
Amazingly looked after, a home away from home with all the little comforts! Will definitely be returning!
The Gatehouse couldn't have been more perfect for our family weekend. What an amazing property, spotlessly clean & beautifully decorated, the photos don't do it justice. There was everything needed for our weekend celebration with the Gatehouse is well equipped throughout. There are some beautiful walks from the front door and it was a real treat to come back to a warm cosy house and a fantastic hot tub. Thank you Jennie & Ian
Denise
Fantastic stay at the gatehouse, it was everything it said in the right up and more, you cannot fail but to have a great relaxing break. Would recommend it to anyone especially with children lots to keep them occupied I would give the Gatehouse 1110.
We had a fantastic time while staying at The Gatehouse. The perfect setting for a family get together. We will be looking to return at some point in the future as the setting was beautiful and the location is a perfect meeting point between two ends of the country.
We booked this beautiful home to celebrate my Dads 60th and it was perfect. The information provided by the property owner prior to our visit was so detailed and Jenny was so helpful with any queries. The kitchen was so well organised and had absolutely everything! Beautiful interior and so clean, hot tub was a fantastic addition as well as an assortment of games which my niece loved. We didnt read some of the information provided on parking before hand so we parked in the wrong spot which was our fault. Thank you
Charlotte
We had the most wonderful weekend break at The Gatehouse. The house is beautiful and has everything you could ever need. Host Jennie was very helpful and accommodating. The hot tub was also a lovely treat. Would definitely recommend!
Samantha
3 Generations stayed over new year, the house met everyone's needs, it was comfortable, beautifully decorated and had everything you could think of that you might need. The location was excellent with plenty of walks right on the doorstep. I found the Owner extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with. All in all a great way to spend celebrating the new year.
Patricia
Lovely place with lots of thoughtful and generous touches. Super owner, very responsive. Great location with easy access to main routes for exploring. We had a Christmas family gathering and The Gatehouse was perfect for us.
Olivia
The house was beautiful. The house felt so cosy and comfortable and we settled in straight away. There was so many little attention to details the owners had thought of to make it easier to use the facilities in the house. The garden was perfect for two dogs as it was all enclosed and we knew they would be safe. The location was perfect as there was a beautiful woodland walk just down the road with a pub next too. Plenty of parking and easy to find. The kitchen is perfect for a big group of guests and had all the equipment we needed. Honestly I couldn't fault the stay, the owners were so helpful and made sure we had all the information we needed prior to the visit.
Claire
From before we even arrived at the accommodation Jennie was so helpful and went out her way in putting up Christmas decorations for us. As soon as you step inside the accommodation it feels homely, smells gorgeous and everywhere is clean. Everything you need is provided for you, the space and layout is ideal for a group of people coming together. We loved our stay and would definitely look to stay again as loved every minute. Thank You

The Gatehouse is a beautiful property, set in a lovely location, the property is great for families with children having a fantastic games room and also games outside in the garden provided and hot tub for the adults. The facilities inside the property are great too for comfort and cleanliness and welcome gifts provided. Dog friendly too which is an added bonus. Thank you so much and would recommend this property.
Andrew
We stayed at the Gatehouse with 4 Adults, 4 kids and a dog. The only thing I can say is the place is 1st class. We have stayed in many Sykes cottages and this is one of the best. The garden area is so peaceful and quiet, with only the local church bells heard. The garden is ample for kids to play and the dog to enjoy. The downstairs bedroom has a little sun trap area, which offered a great escape for my parents. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a great week away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Sit back, unwind and enjoy the sun in peace and quiet.
Lovely home, perfect for our 2 families with teenagers. Hot tub and games room were a real hit. Fenced garden was fabulous for our dog as were the walks on the doorstep. Jennie was super helpful. I think we will be back!
Had a wonderful few nights at the gatehouse. A wonderful property. Nice welcome pack from jennie. The garden was a plus for the dogs would really recommend
Jessica
We booked this property as a weekend get away with friends. On our arrival we were immediately stunned by how beautiful the house was. The space was immaculate and the bedrooms designed beautifully. It was exactly what we were looking for and we were all over the moon with the house. Jennie was a lovely host and very prompt with her replies. The prosecco, chocolate and dog treats were an added bonus! Thank you again!
Lyndsey
We have just returned from a weeks stay in the gatehouse and we had the best time. I cannot recommend this place enough. The house is beautiful and fully equipped with anything you need. We arrived to lovely dog treats, biscuits and Prosecco which was such a nice touch and made us feel very welcome. There were 3 of us and 2 dogs and we had so much room. The beds very comfortable and everywhere very clean and tidy. Personally want to thank Jennie the owner for being so lovely and accommodating. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!
Catherine
Ages 41 x 2, 16 x 4, 10, 9 and our 2 dogs. We have just returned home after a few days at The Gatehouse what an incredible time we have had! The Gatehouse is absolutely beautiful, so full of character and equipped with everything you could possibly need and everything else you hadnt considered! The owner called us prior to stay and was so accommodating, she left us a welcome pack of Prosecco, biscuits, chocolates and dog treats! There was 10 of us in total 8 Humans and 2 dogs and we were never in each others way, there is so much space and so much to do. The teenagers in particular LOVED the games room in the loft and we all loved the hot tub. My Husband and I stayed in the lower floor bedroom and we loved having the door open to the courtyard and listening to the birds and background noise of Teversal Manor. The kitchen was amazing, we loved cooking big hearty meals for all the kids, it was fab to all get together at night and eat and drink there. The location is beautiful too, Teversal Manor is so full of wonder and history and is maintained immaculately. Thank you Jennie, we really hope to return some day soon.

What a lovely property! We were two families spending a week together and there was plenty of space for all of us to relax inside and out. The kitchen is so wellequipped we didnt go out to eat at all and the lovely high ceilings make the whole house feel really light and open. The enclosed garden is great for younger children and our dog too!. We enjoyed the hot tub and ample garden furniture including a badminton net, which got lots of use! The games room is a really fun addition. Decor throughout is lovely and feels quite luxurious, especially in the upstairs bedrooms, which are stunning. Some lovely extra touches like shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in both bathrooms and Easterthemed welcome gifts were really appreciated. We enjoyed walking on the Teversal Trail and playing on the village green for a bit of extra space. Thank you!!
