The Old Cowsheds Reviews

This is a wonderful property fully equipped with everything you would need for a gathering away. We were a party of 9 with a dog and found the space comfortable and relaxing. The surrounding farm and animals were a joy to watch each morning. The setup if fabulous with the ability to all be together or be off by yourself for a bit. Little touches like the hot tub towels really made life easy so much appreciated. The local walks were also great with very little traffic. Having a 5 year old with lots of energy we felt extremely safe both at the cow sheds and when out and about. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning soon
The properties were immaculate, spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, the tv in Steve's cowshed had alot of interference. In Zoe's cowshed as it was very windy due to the storm the door was very drafty. Steve and Zoe were very helpful and friendly and when we were a little lost Steve gave us fresh directions. We would stay there again
An amazing place. Owners on site but do not feel overlooked. If you need anything they are there but never mither Steve. Dry kindly put our shopping away as it arrived early put away orderly too Hot tub is fabulous and amenities all of high standard and plenty of them. We would definitely return. Only tiny feedback if a connecting door inside could be done that would be so much better, walking to each half outside isnt a choice but thats just my suggestion

The property is wonderfully kept and located in a great spot near bakewell. Zoe and Steve couldn't do enough for us and made sure our break over New Years eve went smoothly. The alpacas and the peony were cute.
Couldn't fault anything, beautiful place, fabulous accommodation set over to cottages , clean and homely, owners couldn't do enough for you. local drive to areas such as chatsworth , matlock and bakewell, highly recommend we will definitely be going back,
A fabulous property in a beautiful location, the property has everything you need and more! with the added bonus of a large hot tub. The owners were really helpful and friendly throughout our stay and we will definitely return. Loved it!
A group of us stayed at the Old Cowsheds for a long weekend. The cottage is lovely clean, comfortable and very well equipped. It was a great bonus to have the Hot Tub and outside eating areas in the garden. We very much enjoyed our weekend.

A great place to stay in a lovely location. Easy access to wonderful walks and then relaxing, cooking, eating and pampering ourselves in the hot tub back at the Cowsheds. The owners, Steve and Zoe, were very helpful and friendly.
The cottages were absolutely perfect for our family gathering of nine people. The properties were extremely clean and comfortable. The kitchens were well stocked with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Outdoor seating areas were plentiful to take in the stunning setting. The owners made us feel very welcome. We would highly recommend these properties.
The owners could not of been more helpful and accommodating, even recommending ... The owners could not of been more helpful and accommodating, even recommending local places to visit and to eat, we stayed as a family for my daughters 18th birthday and could not of wished for a better family gathering, will 100 be back
We had a great holiday, well equipped cottage, very nice area, close to all attractions of the Peak District, would highly recommend The Old Cowsheds, Gratton near Winster.
Great location to relax and chill, good for walkers and nature lovers, a well equipped comfortable property. Owners very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. Would go again
Jonathan
Really loved our stay at Steves and Zoes cowsheds! Very well stocked with everything we needed, gorgeous location and facilities were well kept and clean. Hot tub was a massive hit and seating area in the garden was perfect for gatherings. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends
An enjoyable weekend with the ponies and alpacas the highlight for our two years old grandsons
Rachel
We have just had a lovely long weekend staying at Zoe and Steves in The Old Cowsheds, there were 8 of in total so we utilised both properties, both properties are perfectly situated within distance of local amenities lots of walking and other activities available, however we were there to chill and relax and this we did. Both properties were extremely well equipped, spotlessly clean and easily accessible, there was nothing Zoe or Steve couldnt do for you, Zoe even offered us a lift to the pub for our tea !!! The location was peaceful and quiet with wonderful views of the countryside and their grounds especially when chilling in the hot tub with the lovely ponies and alpacas mooching around. We got a Tesco order delivered had couple of BBQ and chilled in the lovely garden on the comfy outdoor furniture with fairy lights and a heater. We already trying to get a date in the diary for our next visit xx A little bit of luxury in a secluded little spot xx Thank you guys.
Nichola
Absolutely wonderful break, tranquil, beautiful scenery, yet close enough to Matlock, Bakewell if you want to visit, Wonderful hosts, everything you need & not to mention the icing on the cake the hot tub. THANK YOU!
Lottie
A group of us stayed at the Old Cowsheds in May and had a wonderful long weekend there. The hosts gave us a very warm welcome and the facilities are excellent. Would highly recommend.
A really wonderful stay. The cottages are lovely. Super comfy beds and bedding. Very well equipped and in a wonderful location convenient for walks and local towns. Great hot tub. Highly recommended.
Beautiful property. Well equipped and just like home. Very beautiful quite area. Owners are lovely people and very approachable. Would love to stay again.
We loved the property and the environment, Steve and Zoe were really helpful and friendly. Our only criticism was the distance between the two entrances to the accommodation, ok in fine weather, but not so good in the rain. In saying that we all had a lovely time and the hot tub was a real bonus.
This holiday house is beautiful and in a really calm and peaceful location. The weekend we visited was very thick with snow, which made the whole place even more amazing. The owners live on the site, but the holiday house is built in such a way that you will not see another person while you there. It looks out through bifold doors over a horse and alpaca pasture then onto open fields and hills. We hired out both Zoe and Steves cowshed which gave us plenty of space for 5 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 small dogs. The garden is safe and enclosed with gates either end, which meant the children and dogs could play freely between both houses. The hot tub is a massive added extra to the homes! It is only overlooked by one room of one of the houses, is under a permanent gazebo with lights. We used it in thick snow! One side of the garden also has a wooden gazebo with cushioned seating, heater and lights. The inside of both houses was so comfortable beds, duvets, sofas, chairs everything. The kitchen was equipped with everything you need to cook, and has a washing machine and dish washer. We called to make a very last minute booking, and the owner could not have been more helpful. Literally no complaints, wonderful weekend had by all, 5 stars definitely more if we could

Amazing cozy cottage with a wonderful countryside feel. The views were stunning, with rolling hills and farmyard animals at a stones throw away. Steve was a brilliant host, he was very quick to sort any minor issues out including getting the cot ready before we arrived and helping us fix the iron within 24 hours! He was always available and helped recommend places for us to visit. We went to Heights of Abraham and the local Peak village. We also stayed back some evenings for a relaxing hot tub soak. Highly recommend the cottages!!
The property was very warm and comfortable, more instruction books for how things work ie TV , microwave, cooker etc, hooks or somewhere dry to put towels bath robs while using the hot tub. Possible supply bath robs for use while at the cottage. Steves cottage a little cramped for 6 people, but as we had both cottages not too much of a problem. We had a very enjoyable time away, and would consider a return visit.
Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold December evening. The apartments were warm, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Delighted to see llamas and horses in the fields around the accommodation the next morning. We had a lovely celebration meal at the Druids Inn, Birchover. My family, including six grandchildren, enjoyed the many facilities, brilliant hot tub, trampoline, tree house, swings etc. Not able to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity for walking due to the weather and shortness of our stay but we are keen to return.
Beautiful property in a lovely area. Very comfortable interior with everything you need. Would definitely return, thanks Steve and Zoe
The Old Cowsheds are absolutely perfect if theres a group of you who want a nice chilled out weekend away in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. We went for walks, visited the nearby town of Bakewell and the old cowsheds is the perfect place to stop if youre after doing all of those things. Facilities in there are great too
Nicholas
Really pleased with our booking at the Cow sheds. Properties are very comfortable and well equipped set in an idyllic location, ideal for a quite get away with beautiful views and loys of fresh air and great walks.
Anthony
We booked this location for a family get together and we're not disappointed. Both cottages were very nicely furnished, very clean and very well equipped, and the way they were set out allowed us all to enjoy an element of privacy, yet come together to enjoy meals etc. The location was excellent for either enjoying walks in the local area or exploring further afield. We'd like to thank our friendly hosts Steve & Zoe for providing us with an excellent place to stay for our get together. Steve had good knowledge of the area and amenities which he kindly shared with us.
Cynthia
Everything went pretty smoothly, we loved the Alpacas! ! small prob with the bath not having handles to pull my 90 yearold mother out, and the shower screen was too rigid, maybe we should have used the other one in Zoes appartment, the larger hinged shower door was better. In the end the shower was fine with the non slip matt. While doing yoga on the lovely jute matt in Steve's appartment I did see alot of dust on skirting BUT that is all I could really complain about. The views where absolutely magnificient and the peace and quiet was priceless. We used a calendar for the compost. I liked the linen bags, the mattresses where adored by our cousins. The storage space for us in the S Cowshed, ensuite with shower could have been better designed as there was not a shelf or chair for my suite case, so had to use the bedside draw pulled out for the suite case, it was great to have a T.V. though. The twin bedkids room had the best view of the fields. Otherwise great standard. Thank you Steve and Zoe.
The Cow Sheds are just so warm and cosy, set in beautiful surroundings. Exceptionally clean, with quality furniture and beds. The beds were really comfy and we loved the decoration of the whole place. The owners are friendly and helpful, are on hand if you need them but do not interfere with your stay. The children loved the pigs, alpacas and trampoline. Perfect for a family get together. We will be booking again Im sure.
There were many great little touches that made the stay special like the mugs spelling Steve and Zoe, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and toilet roll. In a setting that accommodates 10 it would be more environmentally friendly to provide soap in the bathroom and a hand towel. The biggest issue I had was the layout. We were looking for a house that slept 10. The Old Cowsheds is actually two properties so we could not all eat at the same table and food prep meant one person working away on their own in the smaller kitchen. A couple of other niggles were that the sharp knives are dangerously blunt and this could be solved by providing a steel. And none of the double beds are big enough if you have someone who is 6 ft four! This meant we did not sleep well. Also some felt it was a bit of an imposition to ask guests to strip the beds and put sheets etc in the laundry bags. That said we enjoyed the location and the alpacas, rope swing and trampoline were an added bonus with a 9 yr old.
Michael
I had high expectations of these two cottages and they were exceeded. I have stayed in many cottages gites in France and I have enjoyed them all. The Old Cowsheds exceeds them all for facilities, cleanliness and comfort. The garden is well maintained and dog and children friendly. The owner is friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, a little off the beaten track but with all the beauty of the Peak District. One niggle some of the outside chairs at Steve's Cowshed are in need of replacement.
We had an excellent stay here. A spacious openplan kitchen dining living area was great for socializing, and all the bedrooms were very comfortable. Scenery couldn't be better, with beautiful views out across the countryside. Everything we needed was provided, and the hosts were friendly and helpful, also providing some good advice on places to go in Matlock.
Jennifer
We received a very warm welcome, friendly and helpful. Our weekend stay may have been a short one, the environment and atmosphere made our time feel homely. Thank you for your hospitality.
We had a wonderful week at The Old Cowsheds. Beautiful surroundings and excellent access to walks from the front door. Steve was very helpful and friendly and was able to answer queries before we arrived and during our stay. Would thoroughly recommend and hope to return.
