Barley Hill House Reviews

Jeroen
Our stay at Barley Hill House was simply fantastic. The house is tucked away with a long drive, and views over countryside from every window. The photos on the listing do not do credit to how lovely this place is. We made great use of the fireplace as also of the wellstocked games room table tennis, pool, air hockey, PS5 and the cherryontop was the outdoor hot tub. The owner has clearly put a lot of effort into making this a lovely house to relax and stay in, from the excellent sound system to the wellstocked with utensils kitchen. We will definitely be coming back.
Barley Hill House was the perfect spot for Christmas with extended family including two toddlers. Beautiful property, lots of space, great kitchen, pub at the end of the drive and lots to do and see on foot or by car nearby. Theres a great little grocer in the village and its 10 mins drive to numerous grocers in Chipping Norton. We really enjoyed the wood fired hot tub, the games room and spent lots of time around the fire place. Thanks for a great stay.
This was our second stay at Barley Hill House for our annual 2family Christmas getaway. As was the case last time, the house was immaculate and had everything we needed. David was also incredibly communicative and made sure the hot tub was hot on our arrival! The kids enjoyed the games room and PS5 even more this year, letting the adults relax and catch up. Again, would highly recommend Barley Hill House!
Rachel
We loved our stay at Barley Hill! The house and grounds were lovely and we were supplied with everything we needed such as extra towels, tv subscriptions, fully equipped kitchen etc. The owner was in touch via text and phone call with lots of useful information before our stay and was happy to answer any questions, as well as making sure we were getting on ok. We were on a family weekend away and everyone from grandparents to our six week old baby had a much needed relaxing weekend. Although we could have easily spent the entire stay at the property it is well worth a visit into the local village for a Sunday roast or afternoon drinks.
Sharon
Lovely large house, great facilities for families. Loved the hot tub and the open fires. Had great fun in the games room and sitting around the large dinning room table eating, talking and relaxing.
Delightful and very comfortable house. The owner was extremely helpful and the couple of minor problems we had were dealt with immediately. Couldnt fault the support and information. We would thoroughly recommend this high class property.
Lovely house in beautiful location, very well equipped for a family holiday. Ideally situated to visit the Cotswolds, and thanks to David for very useful ideas and help.
Claire
We had a lovely weekend away, it was a surprise birthday weekend for my dad. The cottage has all you need for a fantastic stay, most places you need to take extra towels, but not here, they had more than enough for the bathrooms and hot tub. The games room quickly became our most favourite room, quickly followed by the hot tub. Hats off to the owner too, he messaged beforehand with advice for travel, local shops, pubs and advice on Diddly Squat Farm, couldnt do enough for us. There are lots of different bins for waste, personally I would have the all together, as it got a little confusing running around the kitchen to find which bin was where. However it didnt take it away from a fabulous weekend in the cottage and we would happily go back again.
Whilst this is a fabulous property, when we arrived there was no water. Our arrival time of 7.30pm meant there was no way of contacting anyone until the next day. I rang at 9.00am and a plumber came at 11.30am. We eventually had water at 2pm. Clearly this was not acceptable and the owner contacted us directly to apologise and offer us some monetary compensation. This did not materialise and when we returned home, the management company tried to blame us for breaking the blinds in the dining area and for allowing our dog to urinate on a mat. This was totally incorrect. The blinds did not work and the dog's water bowl was the reason behind the stains on the mat. We had to wait 3 weeks to receive 65 compensation which, bearing in mind how much we paid for this property and how much we have spent with Sykes over the past few years, is totally unfair. We were without water for 19 hours. No shower no drinking water and unable to flush the toilets. I will be making a formal complaint.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Barley Hill House. Excellent property with everything we needed for adults and a 14year old, in an ideal location for a week in the Cotswolds. Communications with David before and during the holiday were very useful and productive. Happy to recommend it we plan to go again. Thanks Alan & Sue.
We had a brilliant weekend at Barley Hill House recently. The house and gardens were great, and we loved the hot tub and terrace. There was plenty of room outside to enjoy the gardens and to sit and chat. The owner was very quick to answer our questions and very helpful. A really lovely house to stay in for the weekend.
Spectacular from all aspects. Lovely picturesque surroundings. Saw kites, rabbits, deer, foxes partridges woodpeckers of which I never see at home . One week was not enough here so much to see and lovely to know each day you come home to a beautiful home and gardens with the amazing wildlife. The owner goes the extra mile checking in with you to ensure your holiday wants for nothing. If I could give 10 stars I would cannot recommend enough for great relaxation away from city life. We will be going back again without hesitation and thank you David for great info on pubs and days out
This was a fantastic property in a stunning location. The property owner was helpful and responsive and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The property is brilliantly situated, close to a number of great locations for day trips, and was the perfect place to unwind after a day out and about exploring.
Richard
Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. Very well equipped with jacuzzi, games room, bbq, state of the art sound system etc. The owner was extremely helpful providing us with loads of local info on pubs and days out etc. He also texted me when the cottage was ready which allowed us to check in a few hours early. We had one problem when the bbq gas bottle was empty and he arranged for it to be replaced almost immediately very impressive! Highly recommended.
Andrea
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Barley Hill a fantastic house with high quality furnishings and fittings, set in wonderful grounds with beautiful trees and planting. A real haven of tranquility. Worked perfectly for our three generations with large dining area, superb games room with table tennis, pool and air hockey, and a luxurious hot tub. Owner David was so helpful sharing local knowledge and recommendations, and quick to assist with any queries. We could not have asked for more. Thoroughly recommend.
Oliver
We were a group of 5 adults 1 baby and the property was perfect, all of the facilities was of a really high standard and the proximity to a local pub and village shop was an added bonus.
We loved Barley Hill House. The area, the property, it is just so beautiful! There isn't anything we would say we didn't like about it. We were only 3 people and a dog staying, so our favourite room was the snug with fire. We were in there most of the time in the evenings and used a fair bit of firewood which was readily available, and very well cut and dried. The Sonos was great. The bedrooms are luxurious, and we all commented that the beds were extremely comfy. The kitchen is well equipped. We cooked two dinners whilst there, and all of the needed toolspansetc were there and easy to find, which was a relief! The breakfastdining room was just glorious with the views during the day. We so enjoyed watching the little birds and tits at the suet feeders in the beautiful tree outside the dining room that we bought one for our own garden and have been entertained by it ever since! We had Friday night dinner at The Tite Inn, its a very easy walk even with a geriatric dog. It was nice, welcoming, food was good, and certainly had a good Friday night vibe. David the owner was extremely helpful in the run up to our stay and when we had a question during the stay, he responded immediately. Wed definitely go back to Barley Hill House. Its quite a wonderful place in the Cotswolds! Thanks again, David.
An amazing house in a truly beautiful area. The host, David, was so helpful and thoughtful. The house is extremely well equipped more than most holiday homes we have stayed in, very comfortable and clean. Beds very comfy! A lovely quiet spot. The Tite Inn at the end of the long drive was great too very welcoming staff and great food. We had a wonderful time and we will definitely be back!
The property was in a beautiful location you can't see this in the pictures secluded but still close enough to walk to the local village pub and amazing shopbutchers . The House is very well equipped. During our stay we NEVER thought I wish I had brought or it would be good to have.... The owners had left thoughtful touches like the hot tub being fired up for our arrival, seperate sets of towels for use with the hot tub, lamps to use when walking to the pub, hose outsde to wash muddy dog paws etc etc.The owner, was also incredibly helpful and communicative in the run up to our stay, sending lots of recommendations for food shopping and places to go nearby. We stayed as 2 families and one dog and would definitely return. Our Childern 713years thoroughly enjoyed the games room and Disney subscription and there were plenty of options for dog walks from the house. I'd highly recommend Barley Hill House!
Stephen
We had a fabulous stay at Barley Hill House, such a beautiful spacious property in a very peaceful location, just perfect for our family gathering of 7 adults, a toddler and dog. David Host was so very helpful providing useful information before our stay and answering queries we had very promptly, he also bailed us out of a very sticky situation on arrival when we realised we had forgotten our travel cot and one was then provided for us within the hour which we were very grateful of. We didn't leave the property for 3 days as it was so nice to have the space to relax together as a family both inside and in the grounds and the lovely large and bright dining area allowed for many happy meals together prepared in the wonderfully equipped kitchen. All rooms were very comfortable and spacious and the games room provided lots of fun for all. The open fire in the lounge was very cosy in the evenings too.The abundance of wildlife surrounding the property including several Kites! was so lovely to see along with the neighbouring horses and goats. Highly recommend Barley Hill House for a truly relaxing family break in a beautiful location.
We had a wonderful stay for 2 families at Barley Hill House over the Christmas period. The property was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for our weekend. Even though we stayed during a cold snap, we all enjoyed the hot tub. The property also provided plenty of salt for sorting out any icy patches. The local pub was only a short walk away which was also a bonus! The owner, David, was incredibly helpful and communicative in the run up to, and during, our stay. I'd highly recommend Barley Hill House!
We had a wonderful stay at Barley Hill House celebrating a family members special birthday. An amazing house in a beautiful location. David and his team couldnt have done any more to make us feel welcome and looked after during our stay. We very much enjoyed the hot tub, local dog walks and the village pub. We would love to return to this idyllic country house. Thank you David for the perfect family break.
Samuel
We had a wonderful stay at Barley Hill House. It was in the perfect location and was a great base to explore the Cotswolds area. Facilities were great with lots of thoughtful touches throughout the house. David, the host, was fantastic throughout always available and very kind, making sure we had everything we needed. Wed love to stay again.
Tushar
Had an amazing time spending a few nights at Barley Hill House. The property was better than the pictures, in a very beautiful setting. The owner had thought of every little detail to ensure the stay was comfortable. Thanks David for always being approachable, and your recommendations really came in handy. Can't wait to visit again.
Catherine
We had a fantastic stay at Barley Hill House over a weekend. The house is very large and there was ample space for us 8 adults with a 4 month old and a dog in tow as well. The kitchen and dining area is spacious and well equipped, and we especially enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi which had been prelit ahead of our arrival. What marked this out from other stays was the welcoming and friendly property owner who was provided us with a lot of helpful information and was very accommodating with our requests. I couldn't recommend it more.
George
A very wellmaintained property with ample facilities for 8 people. Well looked after garden and beautiful surroundings. The host, David, was always contactable and helpful with suggestions. The area is full of pretty tiny villages and beautiful walks suitable for elderly people. A good spot for a peaceful family holiday
Tabitha
The property was amazing! It was just what we needed to unwind, the facilities were great and enough to keep 8 adults content, the location was exactly as you would expect booking a property in the Cotswolds. They have thought of everything to make you stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The owner was the most attentive I have ever experienced on a trip like this. This property comes highly recommended
We had a very enjoyable week at Barley Hill House. The owner kindly messaged me beforehand with recommendations about good pubs for eating out and information about local villages. The house and gardens are lovely, well equipped, and comfortable. Fine weather so we enjoyed beautiful circular country walks along easily navigated public footpaths. Lovely holiday thank you!
Superb and spacious property, set in a beautiful garden. Separate and private Swedish hot tub and bbq area was very special, with its own outside toilet facilities. The owner has thought of everything, and nothing was too much trouble in communication with him. The property itself is high specification, the games room with pool table, air hockey, table tennis and a PS5 was great for the kids. Smart TVs in the lounge and games room were great, with Sonos speakers throughout. Excellent kitchen facilities. Bedrooms and bathrooms are well appointed. Location is also excellent, 10 minutes from Chipping Norton in a quiet village with a lovely pub and shop. Overall a wonderful place to stay, would love to return.
We stayed 4 nights at Barley Hill recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. The property is wonderful, full of character and has everything you could want for a family holiday. The location was great for days out at local attractions too and an evening meal at the Tite Inn at the bottom of the road capped it all off. I couldn't recommend this property highly enough.
What a great place! Arrived from London during the heatwave to find an oasis of calm large house in beautiful secluded setting even better than the photos promised... We slept in the huge master bedroom with a very comfy bed and a stand alone bathtub. All the rooms were lovely and plenty of space for adults and teenagers to do their own thing so we made good use of the hot tub, barbq and pool table. Lots of outside seating. We explored the local area including Daylesfords but really very happy just to chill out at Barley Hill House. We had a great time and will be back!! thank you.

Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens - OX18 4JP

This has to be one of the most popular days out in Oxfordshire and is sure to appeal to nature lovers, animal lovers and keen gardeners.  Families and couples will enjoy wandering around this amazing park with a wide variety of mammals and birds to see as well as reptiles. Some of the most popular animals are the Burrowing Owl, Dexter Cow, African Pancake Tortoise and the Bar Headed Goose.  Check out their website for the latest admission costs and special offers.
Farmer Gows - SN7 8DA
about 19 Miles
Farmer Gows is a recommended attraction in the Faringdon area of Oxfordshire and will be especially suited to families with young children.  The little ones will love coming to see the farm animals including pigs, cows and lambs.  The meet the animals session takes place every day and includes handling the animals, walking the goats, feeding the pigs and cows and egg collecting.  Look out for special seasonal events throughout the year such as the Halloween Party, Lambing and children's workshops.  The latest news from the farm is that they have some Saddleback piglets and Speckledy chicks arriving shortly.
Pendon Indoor Model Village and Railways - OX12 8EA
about 22 Miles
This is an all weather attraction in Abingdon, Oxfordshire which will appeal to all ages.  The model trains are fascinating to watch and we love the model village in the Vale Scene.  The exhibits have been well thought out and it's a pleasure to wander around this museum looking at everything on offer.  You can be assured of a warm welcome from the moment you arrive and for kids and adults alike this makes a fun and educational day out.
Catanger Llama Trekking - NN12 8LJ
about 23 Miles
This is a really unique attraction and certainly worth a visit in our opinion.  Established in 1995 and situated in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside this attraction will appeal to those looking for something a little different.  You can't ride the animals but you can trek alongside them and enjoy the fantastic scenery.  From farm tracks to country lanes the gentle animals will carry your rucksack for you along the way.  There are personally guided treks available all year round and you will have your own Llama for the trek.
Avon Leisure Cruises - BS8 4EB
about 24 Miles
Avon Leisure Cruises offer a relaxing way to spend an afternoon exploring the beautiful river and the sites all around it. The trips have commentary to point out places of historical importance and interest and are educational as well as fun. During school holidays the area is very popular with tourists and with families and daily activities can be enjoyed.
Studley Grange Garden and Leisure Park - SN4 9QT
about 28 Miles
Studley Grange Garden and Leisure Park is a fantastic attraction based in Swindon, Wiltshire.  For nature lovers and those who like to get out and explore this is the perfect day out.  It's also an all weather attraction with Butterfly World being part of the site.  Butterfly World is kept at around 85 degrees year round so this makes a perfect place to visit in all seasons. A visit to the Craft Village is also recommended where there are a wide range of handcrafted gifts.
Old Dairy Farm Centre - PO30 2NB
about 29 Miles
Suited to families with children of all ages this is a fantastic attraction in Northamptonshire.  There are many special events held throughout the year so don't forget to check what's happening while you are staying in the region.  Some highlights include the lambing weekends and the monthly local food fayres.
Old Dairy Farm Country Shopping and Craft Centre - LE14 3PF
about 29 Miles
From shopping to home cooked refreshments this is a wonderful day out in the pretty village of Upper Stowe.  You can enjoy amazing views over the Northamptonshire countryside and wander around the complex of stone built farm buildings.  Each building houses something different such as the Occasions Florist, Itsy Bitsy Gifts, Hayrack Gallery and Sheer Delights Lingerie.  When it's time for a rest the Barn Restaurant and Tea Room is the place to go.  There is a small selection of animals at the centre too which younger children will love.  They currently have two Kune Kune pigs, sheep, hens and ducks.  If you are looking for upmarket holiday accommodation in the Northamptonshire area then the luxury lodges at Wicksteed Park are sure to impress.
