About Red House Farm

A delightful detached cottage on the outskirts of the town of Llanfair Caereinion in Powys. Renovated from a former farmhouse, this stylish cottage offers a peaceful, rural retreat for friends and families to enjoy, with the benefit of a luxurious hot tub boasting breathtaking views across the valley.

As soon as you enter the cottage, you will be impressed with the reception hallway which provides a snug seating area, open fire feature hearth and media TV centre with games console, which the children will want to make use of straight away. To the right of the hall you will find a spacious kitchen with quartz worktops and a dining area with feature fire and access onto the rear patio, as well as fabulous country views.

The sitting room has double windows and a bi-fold door across the front to open the room to the outside, and when the evening gets cooler, you can settle into the leather sofas in front of the warming woodburner in the sandstone hearth. Four beautiful bedrooms, two sharing a Jack-and-Jill shower room, are on the first floor, along with a stylish family bathroom.

The farmhouse garden is surrounded by sheep grazing, whilst the hot tub, which is located to the side of the cottage, will provide the perfect place to relax and soak away the aches of the day, perhaps with a glass of wine whilst stargazing into the unspoilt night sky. Alternatively, guests can relax on the patio which is south-facing and sheltered, a superb sunbathing area.

The town of Llanfair Caereinion is easily accessed from the cottage and offers all you need for a holiday stay with a range of village shops, pubs and restaurants. Enjoy a trip on the Welshpool and Llanfair steam railway (there is a station in the village) or discover beautiful lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, or trips into beautiful Shropshire.

Red House Farm Reviews

Alistair
Very easy check in procedure with clear instructions. Cottage itself was excellent to stay in and obviously the views are outstanding. The locals in the village were very friendly and all the pubs welcomed us inside, even to watch Wales lose to England in the rugby. Cottage itself was clean and lived up to what was advertised. Well positioned hot tub was used daily. We had an electric car and found some rapid chargers in nearby Welshpool opposite Aldi, which would be worth mentioning to future guests.
Natalie
Had the most wonderful stay here. The house is beautiful and equipped with everything you need. We was amazed how warm it was and kept the heat so well even though it was 5 outside. The hot tub was beautiful and so clean, enjoyed this so much with the wonderful view. Host was lovely very helpfull and even posted an item back which we had left behind. Would highly recommend this place, the price was good too. 5 stars
Absolutely beautiful property in a stunning locations with seriously breathtaking views, especially from the hot tub! Very comfortable, warm and good facilities. Perfect place to just chill and relax with some lovely days out in the local area . Already thinking of rebooking for next year. Highly recommend this place. The owner is fab and really helpful .
We absolutely loved this house. It was huge and more than big enough for us all 6 of us. It was decorated beautifully with no expense spared with the fixtures and fittings. The view was like something off a painting, and it was lovely to sit in the hot tub or the living room looking at the view. The house has absolutely everything you need and more. The owner was also really nice and very helpful. We'd love to come back in the future and preferably in the summer but unfortunately the prices are very expensive for next summer so probably out of our price range. We'd love to return though if the price was less expensive.
We celebrated my partners 40th birthday. What a location and facility to do so. Mark and his wife were exceptional in assisting us .. especially with the decorations, but also supplying logs on a chilly summer evening. Lovely people who care about making people enjoy the experience. Big kudos from all that stayed.
Thanks for a lovely stay. We will be back in the future.
2 night stay, lovely clean cottage with blthe most stunning view. The Hot tub was amazing and also the garden for the children. Very clean and comfortable. Mark was great and can give any information needed very good communication etc. Would definitely stay again
Rebecca
Red house farm was beautiful, even better than the pictures. All 8 of us where so happy with the property. We went for a hen weekend surroundings where beautiful, secluded, and a large property. The view from the living room along with the bifolding doors is breath taking. Location is good too not far to walk to the village and you can get the steam train into welshpool. The owner was great too 1010, we left a few things at the property and he is arranging to have them sent back to us. I will be returning to this property with my family next time.
Louise
We stayed here as part of a family celebration for an upcoming big birthday, The accommodation was beautiful and spacious, lived beyond our expectations. We all had a brilliant time & definitely will return. My only criticism is the surrounding scenery should have been advertised more as the website doesnt do it justice, we felt it was nicer than the photos
Fantastic Stay Mark was very helpful. Was difficult to find at first as the instructions arent very clear but once you find the way its no problem. The garden was perfect for our older dog who could roam freely. We had glorious weather and the views were amazing. We would definitely come back and would like to see the house in Winter.
Absolutely outstanding place, with views to die for. Gorgeous house, fabulous hot tub with views that we will never forget. We went to Barmouth Beach, Aberdovy Beach, The Quarry in Shrewsbury to name but a few. All about an hour away. Lovely place to stay with dogs as the garden is enclosed and they are very safe. Would highly recommend to anyone, it will not disappoint
Melanie
A fabulous spacious house which was spotlessly clean and had everything you needed. Fantastic views even better while sitting in the hot tub. Would highly recommend this property
Had a lovely stay at Red House Farm and would highly recommend. Host was very helpful and quick to respond to queries. The rooms and garden were very spacious and well maintained. Decor was lovely, felt very warm and homely. The fire places gave a lovely touch. The house was well equipped thoroughly thought out lots of plates, cups and cutlery plenty of knives and spoons but it would have been nice if there were a few more forks. An extra frying pan would have been useful especially when trying to cook a full english breakfast. Hot Tub was lovely and very relaxing. We were really fortunate, we had a couple of nights where there were no clouds so we got to see a lot of stars absolutely stunning. Spectacular view from the living room. Pressure in the showers were good however, the jack and jill ensuite water was not as hot as the family bathroom. We stayed during the colder period and was slightly nervous that the house wouldn't be warm enough however, the heating was exceptional and kept us lovely and warm throughout our stay. Red House Farm is in a good location few things to do around the area and routes are quite wide and easy to drive along. Llanfair Caereinion, a lovely little town which is close by less than 5 minutes drive away with the essentials, butchers and a pub. Welshpool was about 20 minutes drive away which had a few supermarkets, some big chain stores and lovely local shops so if you need anything urgently it wasn't difficult to get what you needed. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Red House Farm and would definitely recommend and stay again.
We enjoyed a lovely holiday with friends in this beautiful location. The cottage was well equipped, warm and plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 young children. The views are amazing and we all enjoyed the luxury of hot tub for the week. It is also has a private and safe garden for children to play in. Plenty of activities and sites nearby which we all enjoyed. The host was very hospitable and even helped us out when we had a flat tyre on the day we left. Thank you Mark for a fantastic holiday!
Matthew
Fantastic property, clean and tidy with amazing views property owner friendly and nonintrusive, great location that is near to local towns etc. Hot tub also a great addition would recommend this property to anyone and would definately stay again!
A brilliant stay at Red House Farm the house is even better than the photos and description with stunning panoramic views complemented by a spacious, clean and well equipped house. The location was great for days out and days in the garden. The local area had all you needed with a friendly welcome in the village butchers and then pub being a particular highlight. Mark was helpful at the start and end of the stay and was available for any queriesquestions. I would stay here again in a heartbeat as this really is a fantastic house that I wholeheartedly recommend.
Beverley
We spent two wonderful weeks at Red House. On arrival we were met by Mark who went through a few things with us. The property was beautifully clean which was a lot different from the last couple of homes we have stayed in with cottages.com which were filthy. The house is set on a side of a hill with stunning views and at times, a lovely welcome breeze from the very hot but lovely weather we experienced and lovely neighbours of sheep and cows. We were provided with a lovey cake baked by a local baker which was scrumptious. The hot tub was lovely, sitting in it with a beautiful view. We knocked the temperature right down so we could cool off in it during the day but unfortunately due to the hot weather the water was pretty disgusting towards the end of the second week so if staying for two weeks in hot weather ask Mark to change the water after the first week. As Mark was away and as we had a hot tub at home, I tried to clear it with chemicals that he had but it was too far gone and we were not able to use it the last few days We usually do an online shop for when we get there but Tesco only had a late night slot and as we were staying for two weeks and wasnt sure what would be provided, as this hadnt been covered in other reviews, we decided to do a shop in Welshpool Tesco after we had visited the property You have the option as well as Tesco of a Morrisons and also a Lidl. To help future guests obviously all hosts provide different things and it is always difficult to know what to take with you, we were provide with some tea bags, sugar, salt and pepper, together with a few dishwasher tablets, cleaning cloths, cleaning products and bin bags. So you will need to purchasebring with you things like milk, cooking oil although we did leave some there for the next guests foil, cling film which I highly recommend to cover absolutely everything in the fridgecupboards condiments coffee etc I know someone mentioned about the knives and they are right they are not sharp whatsoever so I took some sharp knives with us, including a knife sharpener but I couldnt sharpen what was there so definitely pack some decent knives and an extra frying pan, as there is only one smallish pan there, if you like a nice cooked breakfast but lots of other pots and pans there. There is also loads of plates, cutlery, mugs etc so we never run out of anything The beds and pilllows were really comfortable although one of the rooms does have a zip up bed and you can feel it is two single beds. Also abundance of towels which were large and lovely and soft Due to being on a farm with cattle and sheep and next to barns and hot weather, we were absolutely swamped with flies which get in everywhere including fridge and cupboards and was a real nuisance especially when trying to prepare food or eat. What I tended to do is shut all the doors about 34 hour before I was due to prepare food and spray the area with fly spray. You will still have some appear as we think they came down the chimney that is in the kitchen but a few is better than the hoards we had beforehand We wasted about 30 on citronella items which was a waste of money so a fly swat, which are provided, and spray are the only things that work. However if eating outside the 6 citronella candles worked if you had the umbrella up, most days. It was nothing to do with the property it has been a bad year for flies and if you want the lovely views and animals then you have to take the rough with the smooth but just be warned and stock up before you go as we ended up wasting time whilst we were there tracking stuff down We used the local butches a lot which are lovely. We had a T bone and sirloin steak which was so tender. They also do goat and barbecue stuff, eggs, limited veg etc. In the local town you have the choice of Spa or Londis which is just over the bridge. Londis we found were much better quality of vegetables. Spar vegetables were really quite poor at times There is so much to do in the area, especially if you are into nature, as I am We saw Red kite, buzzards several times a day around the property. We did the steam train ride from the village which was also nice but recommended going first class as the seats are soooooooo comfortable otherwise you are sat on a wooden bench for 3 hours. We visited this Osprey centre and red kite feeding station which I highly recommend. We had a fantastic time and would definitely return for 3 weeks next time
Well where do l start ? All l can say is Great, Great, Great and Great. From the moment we drove up the driveway to Red House Farm l was smitten. I even told Mark the owner that if my lottery numbers came up l would be back to buy it off him.. at a price. The view from the house is to die for looking out towards Snowdonia, made even more like paradise when sat in the hot tub which l did every morning The house is magnificent, extremely clean and luxurious. It is the perfect place to stay and recharge your batteries. There is lots to see and do locally including the Llanfair steam train Highly recommended and thanks to Mark and family for making us feel so welcome.
Danielle
This property is spectacular, just on arrival getting out the car seeing the view we didnt care what the house was like as the pictures did not do the beauty of it justice! But after an easy check in with Mark, meeting us as we arrived with the keys and a chat, we headed in and soon realised that the house was just as perfect. It was completely spotless and had everything we needed for the week mugs, glasses, plates and saucepans ext, plus we had been given a Victoria sponge cake as a welcome gift so a cup of tea and a slice of that looking out over the view made for a great start. As a first holiday with 4 generations, including a 5 month old and two dogs, I was a little nervous but the house just what we needed. Having 3 bathrooms was brilliant made getting ready to go out a lot easier with the 6 of us! The enclosed garden put our minds at ease for the dogs being allowed to roam without worry. The hot tub was just the best added bonus, we made use of it everyday, Mark also came half way through our stay to check it for us and make sure it was all okay. The only thing I will say about this property is youll definitely need a car to get back from local village if you are not super fit, although it is only a very short distance the hill back up is a killer! The local shop had all the essentials and a bigger shop for everything else was a short 15 minute drive away. We had food in the Red Lion, it was a hidden gem, it looked like just a local drinking pub! The goat also did delicious food and was slightly more up market. The Black Lion was just a drinking pub but the locals in there are lovely all had a chat and told us recommendations of things to do in the area. On departure Mark was there emptying the hot up and giving it a clean and ready with bags of fresh linen to replace ours. He very kindly gave us extra time to get out the property as our 5 month old was still feeding so we hadnt managed to get everything out and gone by 9am. I cant recommend this property enough, we hope to come back again one day in the future!

Exceptional property which was modern, very clean and ideal for a relaxed stay The hot tub was like brand new This property is obviously maintained to a high standard and I would 100 recommend this beautiful property to anyone The property owner was very welcoming and very helpful
We booked this house based on the reviews and pictures on Sykes cottages, I can honestly the reality is equally as good if not better than the pictures. The views and surroundings were stunning, especially in the evening and night from the hot tub. We used the hot tub everyday and never tired of the views. Mark , the owner, was very helpful and chatty filling us in on the local area and history. The house is stylishly decorated and very comfortable. Lovely log burner and lounge. Upon leaving we saw Mark completely draining and cleaning the hot tub for the next visitor. The whole family and dog had a great relaxing stay. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.
Lovely large clean property. The road up would be challenging if there was snow but we were lucky in February! The hot tub was amazing with wonderful views. Every room was comfortable, easy to share with another family with two bathrooms either side of the house. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.
We had a fantastic stay with our family of all ages from 88 to 9 yrs old the Bowens family owners of The house were brilliant and accommodating and even put one of the single beds downstairs for my father who had recently undergone a hip replacement! We visited the nearby Powys castle and the Lake Vyrnwy & also went to the towns of Welshpool & Newtown. Beautiful house in a stunning location.
Michelle
A wonderful house and kind host. Thanks for a great holiday!
Laurie
We had an amazing family stay at Red House Farm. 4 adults, 4 older children and 2 dogs and there was plenty of room for us all. Everything was to a high standard from decor to utensils! Would extremely recommend. Thank you.
Pauline
We had a lovely week stay at Red House Farm in September. The house is in a beautiful rural setting with fabulous views, its very well presented and was just as described. I would definitely recommend it to those wanting a peaceful stress free holiday.
Positives excellent location and most of the equipmentfacilities were as promised. The hot tub is a real asset. Negatives some of the kitchen utensils were poor notably the knives in the wooden block they were unbelievably blunt. We were only supplied with 4 dishwashing tablets, and the dishwashing clothestowelsbrushes wee inadequate. The beds are not kingsized ad one of our guests had to move beds as one of the beds gave him a very bad back after one night. Friday arrivals and departures are hopeless from a travelling perspective as we got caught up in rush hour traffic on both journeys to and from the property.Expecting guests to leave by 9am on the departure day is a joke for groups of 6 or 8. Your note to guests on what we were expected to do in terms of leaving the property 'clean' is condescending and gives the impression that we ae doing you a favour by staying at your properties. We always leave any place we stay in for a holiday 'clean'. How you expect guests to do everything your list and still leave by 9am is a joke. We just about did it but it left a poor taste.
Shirley
This was a lovely place to stay. Exceptionally clean and very homely . The hot tub was brilliant and one of the hottest we have had. Would definitely recommend this property
Red House Farm is ideal for those looking to get away and have some peace and quiet in the Welsh countryside. Mark was a great host, left us to it but friendly when we needed him. I really recommend.
Didn't realise how far from a beach it was that was the only fault with it, it ... Didn't realise how far from a beach it was that was the only fault with it, it was a lovely idilic place hot tub was great kids loved it and grown ups as well,
Katharine
We had the most fantastic holiday at Red House Farm, the property itself is beautifully done inside and out and caters for everything and everyone. The breathtaking views that surround the property are simply stunning, you literally just sit back and breathe in the spectacular scenery, which even includes Snowdon. We did this many times in the hot tub! Welshpool is a short drive away and its a lovely little town with nice shops and cafes. We would highly recommend a day out at the British Ironworks Museum which is close by. But if you dont mind the journey then definitely climb Snowdon we did and it was incredible. Difficult but brilliant!! I would recommend Red House Farm and we would love to go back again. My only criticism is one of the mattresses on one of the beds my one was quite lumpy and not very comfortable, which did effect our sleep.
Manisha
This was a great stay! I will definitely come back! Mark was a great host and very helpful. The location is beautiful and so many great views. We also really enjoyed the hot tub. Kitchen doesn't have a frying pan...other than that everything was perfect. 15 mins from the town centre. The dog also liked it too!
Beautiful house in a perfect location. Very well equipped and furnished to a high standard. We will definitely be back. Just needs a frying pan
Rebecca
Red House Farm was absolutely fantastic. The house had everything and more, the owner was lovely and always on hand if needed. The property looks exactly like the photos. We had such a relaxing stay and will definitely be looking to book again.
Spectacular views, accommodation, comfort and privacy including large, secure gardens and bbq area. Very fortunate with the weather so hot tub was used most days ... extremely clean and safe ... checked by the owner Mark regularly throughout the week. Did walk to and from village ... but is stretching on return as all steep up hill. Would recommend Black Lion Friday curry night ... Red Lion and Goat also do good pub food. We found it easier to eat in most nights as quality butchers in the village with extensive selection of meats and speciality dishes ... really spoilt for choice! We had a fabulous week here ... exceeded our expectations...best family accommodation we have ever stayed in.
Me & 6 friends spent a beautiful weekend at Red House Farm and I have to say it exceeded my expectations! ! Cottage views overlooking the countryside was just something else, it was the perfect setting to spend time with friends and would highly recommend staying here! Couldnt fault anything, the owner was great giving us updates prior to arriving and I hope we get the chance to stay here again! Thank you Sykes for allowing us to have the best weekend here .
Deborah
Appreciating the difficulties experienced by the pandemic I found communication with Sykes almost impossible when I needed it. This was a much needed break and I had tried to extend it by 1 night. I was unable to do this online as a minimum of 2 nights is required, I tried to ring several times and gave up after a minimum of 50 minute waits. I then emailed to try to extend but sadly got no response what do ever. By the time my daughter finally got through some 3 weeks !!! Later there was no a availability. The property was amazing with lovely helpful owners and would definitely recommend and return.
Lauren
A wonderful family break in Feb, sadly the weather couldn't be helped but for us we still used the hot tub and made lots of memories, a fantastic time had by all along with hosts that couldn't do enough to make your stay fab, we will see you soon, Lauren, Ian, Karen, hannah, malachy, faith, Liam and Brandon. Not to mention the dogs who had a wonderful time.
Jennifer
Red House was beautiful, comfy and had everything we needed. The owners were helpful and easy to contact. We had a great time even with Storm Dennis making it very windy and cold it was warm and snug inside. The hot tub is great and it would have been wonderful walking in the area if it had been better weather.
Catherine
We all really enjoyed our stay. We felt welcome and the house was very warm and comfortable. The cake that was there on arrival was lovely. The hot tub has been well maintained and was lovely to sit in during the evening after a day of walking. Would visit again.
