About The Old Smokehouse

Situated on the outskirts of Rugeley in Staffordshire, is this delightful former smokehouse. The Old Smokehouse has been converted into a one bedroom property with a lovely light decor and modern fittings, ideal for a couple's retreat.

Stepping through the front door, you enter into a small but well-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up some delicious meals or a hearty breakfast before starting your day. Once the evening draws to a close, retire to the spacious double bedroom to get some much needed rest or to cosy up and enjoy the large TV and a Netflix package available.

Outside is a small enclosed garden with plenty of furniture to top up on that tan during the summer months, dine alfresco with the barbecue, or take a refreshing dip in the bubbling hot tub. Resting on the outskirts of Rugeley, you are well-placed for accessing a number of nearby country trails for long walks and cycling opportunities.

This is the midlands premier destination for mountain biking, from relaxing family rides through picturesque valleys to the dedicated single-track of Follow the Dog and the Monkey Trail for enthusiasts. Further to this the Forestry Commission are currently working on an entirely new cross country trail which will be designed specifically for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Discover The Birches Valley Forest Centre in Cannock Chase Forest, run by the Forestry Commission is the beginning of the Cannock Trail Centre which ranks in the top five trail centres in the UK and attracts thousands of riders from all over the UK. The site is also popular for its adult and junior Go Ape as well as off-road segways, and cafés, perfect for people of all ages.

There are national events on a regular basis such as races and an annual music festival weekend, so make sure to see what's available ahead of time. A little further afield is the stately home of Shugbourough Hall and Western Park, also a National Trust property.

British Wildlife Rescue Centre - TN8 7AR

This is a really unique opportunity to see the fantastic work going on at this centre.  The purpose of the British Wildlife Rescue Centre is to treat and care for injured wildlife which cannot be released into the wild.  Many of the animals are brought to the centre by members of the public or the RSPCA.  Visit their website to see the picture gallery and to find out how to help if this is something which interests you.  There are also regular fundraising events such as the Sponsered Leg Wax.
Rosliston Forestry Centre - DE12 8JX

Rosliston Forestry Centre is a beautiful woodland site with tranquil areas for Fishing as well as some beautiful meadows and a lake. For children there is a Play Area to run around on and during school holidays organised activities such as range led walks are available. The site is also an excellent place for Walking, Cycling and Horse Riding. Other available events taking place this year include an Archery drop in session, a Christmas Crafting Afternoon and a Mince Pie and Mulled Wine Walk.

A day trip to Dudley Zoo in Worcestershire is a real treat for children and adults alike. Conkers is an award winning attraction located in the midst of the National Forest.  Combining both indoor and outdoor activities this is an all weather attraction in the Peak District.  It's really easy to get to as well, just 5 miles from Junction 11 off the M42.  Designed for all ages some of the highlights include the Enchanted Forest Adventure play area and a simulated Tree Top walk.  Look out for special seasonal events such as October half term and the Annual Halloween Party.  At the moment you can receive a fantastic discount if you book your tickets online.

This award winning theme park in Shropshire has something for everyone.  Children will delight at the amazing array of rides and activities. Described on their own website as a "fairytale adventure" there is a nursery rhyme and fairytale characters theme running throughout the park. One inside the park you can enjoy unlimited free rides and there's an indoor soft play area for the younger ones and for when the weather is not on your side.  Another popular aspect of this attraction is the nature trail.  Check out their website for the latest events and admission costs. This company also owns Jungleland - another great attraction just 4 miles from Wonderland.
Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom - TF6 6DJ

Locally renowned for the Sheep Steeple chasing and daily goat races this is a really unique family attraction that the kids will love.  You can really get hands on with the farm animals with the animal handling sessions and you can have a go at teaching the parrots to talk!  The crazy craft cabin will keep even the most creative entertained with pottery and painting amongst other things. When you are in need of a rest head for the The Hungry Shepherd Tea Room where you can enjoy a bite to eat and children can burn even more energy in the indoor play area.
