The cottage holds many original character features and is set in lovely countryside, making it a great place for a family get together or for groups of friends wishing to have an all action holiday or a quiet place to relax in the country.

On entry to the property you are in the hallway. To the left is the galley-styled kitchen which is well-equipped to prepare some home-cooked meals to then enjoy on the large dining table at the end of the room; making it a great place to discuss plans for the day or to talk about that day’s adventures.

From here leads you into the spacious sitting room with plenty of comfy sofas to relax in, then leading back to the hallway. When going upstairs the stairs split to either side, with a twin (zip/link can be super king-size on request) and a king-size double with TV on one side and a family room with three singles and a family bathroom on the other side.

The rest of the rooms are on the lower ground floor with a king-size double with TV and a sofa, a double bedroom as well as two shower rooms with basin and WC and a utility room. From the lower ground floor, the door takes you out to the lovely enclosed back garden with a good-sized patio and furniture, making it a great place to dine alfresco or just sit out and enjoy the countryside.

There is also a hot tub to enjoy which is well-covered within a bespoke slate and oak style gazebo to protect against the elements. Beyond the wall of the garden are further shared gardens with a natural pond area and stream running past which is great for spotting birds.

Bank End Barn Reviews

Kirsty
We booked Bank End Barn for a family Christmas, 5 adults, 3 children and 3 dogs. We had a fantastic stay, the accommodation was lovely, stunning views and had so many personal touches such as a Christmas tree and Christmas decorations, which made it even more special and welcoming. The bedrooms were all very comfortable and everywhere was clean and tidy. The kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed and we were able to cook Christmas dinner for 8 of us without an issue. Having the whole family sitting around the beautiful kitchen table on Christmas Day was just perfect. The hot tub was another highlight and was enjoyed by both the adults and kids. The dogs also had fun swimming in the stream at the bottom of the garden. One thing to note is that the property is spread across 3 floors, the kitchen and living room is on the ground floor and the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the upper floor, and lower ground floor. One member of our family has mobility issues and getting up and down stairs can be a problem, although they managed for the duration of our stay, it is worth noting that although in the facilities list it states that there is a ground floor bedroom, which is why we booked the property, this is not actually the case. Even so it was just a minor issue and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Same as last year when we stayed at bank end barn. We knew what to take with us to go along with what was already provided. Local pub the greyhound was as before a great place to drop in for a meal or just a few drinks after a long walk locally. Ulverston 10 minutes or so away provided everything we could require food and drinks wise with a fantastic butcher, fish monger and lots of other outlets. A cruise along the lakes had to be repeated after last years jaunt and Bowness was a great wee town to visit again. All in all again we had a great break and will very possibly be there again in the future.

An absolutely phenomenal holiday at Bank End Barn with my family. Everything was in fact more than expected and completely worth the money paid. Amazing and functional facilities , lovely views , gigantic hot tub, comfortable bedding, large fridge and a well maintained , well organised place of stay. Would indoubtly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to go Lake District as for the low price, it is by far the best cottage we have ever been to. Thank you once again for everything and we will definitely be booking again soon.
Very comfortable and well equipped with safe enclosed garden for the dogs. We particularly enjoyed using the hot tub. only snags 1. lack of clearly signposted local dog walks that could be walked from the house 2. lack of charge point for electric vehicle but we enjoyed the Old Kings Head in Broughton while using the local ev charge point!
We had a lovely stay at Bank End Barn and it made a great base for exploring the Lake District. We even saw a lovely moon rise from the hot tub. It was great that there were a few kids' toys and books in the property, and a nice bit of space for playing outside there's also a play park within walking distance, just by the Greyhound Pub. Having stair gates in the property was also really useful. Thanks for a lovely stay, which was excellent value for money.

We had a great time at the barn with superb weather. The house is very well equipped, the only things we felt would be useful additions were a hand mixer and some garden chairs we brought our own.
Amazing property, brilliant stay.

The personal welcome Email from the owner before we arrived was a lovely touch. On entering the property we knew this was going to be a home from home and we soon settled in. This stay was for my youngest Daughters 30th birthday and to have all the family there inc the 5 dogs, we couldn't have asked for more. The property is spacious and well balanced with all you would ever need. Hot tub was fab and well used. Would highly recommend this property for a good chill. Never did get to the local which comes highly recommended for atmosphere and great food.Dog friendly
Great place. Great value Great facilities
Jackie
Great accommodation and set up local area and beyond fantastic with so much to do and see. Local pub very good company and food. Enjoyed it so much we booked again for next year the day before we left this year
Lovely accommodation with everything we needed for a birthday celebration weekend with our family of 3 generations and our dog. Well appointed with all the crockery and cooking utensils. The Hot tub was well used and great with a lovely outlook. Very pleased we booked this property.
Michelle
Lovely place and location. Facilities were great everything we needed. Will defiantly be staying again
Lovely big property, well equipped. Comfortable beds, and settees. Plenty of room for a large group. Hot tub perfect with wonderful views. Good pubs and restaurants about especially in Ulverston which is a short drive away. Wonderful scenery right on doorstop. Lake Coniston and Windermere not far. Hope to come again. Thanks fo a lovely stay
We had a lovely stay, the property was well equiped and clean. We enjoyed the hot tub and the children loved the garden area. Would definitely visit again
Chantelle
Family holiday. ..... there was enough room for a group of ten. Garden space was amazing and the kids really enjoyed it, WiFi was also brilliant. There were duck eggs outside the barn which was a nice touch, facilities were amazing very equipped barn.
Had a fantastic long weekend. Nice, quiet location, with fantastic views from the garden. Lots of space both inside and our for the kids and dogs to play. Would certainly recommend. Thanks.
Gurpreet
We had a wonderful stay! The views from the barn were beautiful and the garden was great for the kids too. We would love to come back and stay for longer!
The property was ideal, lovely and comfortable and plenty of utensils for every occasion. There is ample room for a large party. We had a fantastic time.
We had a lovely stay. Just as other reviews it was lovely and warm. The utility room an excellent provision. Hot tub brilliant. Enjoyed local walks and the Greyhound pubrestaurant lovely food although they struggled with card reader and we couldnt eat there on our last night as wed run out of actual cash and nearest cash machine was miles away. Very enjoyable stay for our family.
Debbie
Just returned from a week in this lovely cottage celebrating my husbands 60th Birthday. There was plenty of room for 7 adults and 2 dogs. The cottage had everything we needed to make it home from home. There was a slight hiccup when we first arrived with twin beds not being connected to make a Super King. I contacted Sykes Cottages at 5.55pm when we arrived, they contacted the owner straight away, and called me back. By 6.20 the owner arrived, stripped the beds, and made into a super king! We were happy to wait until the next day, but nothing was too much trouble. Excellent service throughout. We visited Silecroft Beach and also many areas around the Lakes. Perfect location to explore the Western Lakes and Coastal paths. I feel the cottage would benefit from having access to the back of the house to take off muddy boots and coats and leave downstairs rather than stepping through the front door onto a lovely carpet. Would definitely recommend this cottage for a relaxing holiday with lovely views, clear skies to see the stars, and hot tub to top it all off!
Suzanne
Lovely holiday cottage suited our needs perfectly! Excellent location for mountainslakes as well as beaches. Owners were very accommodating when having to rebook due to covid lockdowns. Hot tub was a lovely added bonus which was in a really nice shelter.
We had a fantastic week. Thank you. Kind regards Jane Carter
Everything we needed was there. Good hot tub. Would definitely book again
Michael
The location and layout of the property suited our needs perfectly for the family celebration we had planned.
The cleaning was non existent! Even though every email and detail stated late arrival due to extra cleaning etc we arrived at 5pm and had to spend 23 hours cleaning, I have photos to prove it how dirty it was, very disappointing. The cleaners should be ashamed. Lovely cottage once cleaned and worked well for our party.
We really enjoyed our break here, the cabin is beautiful, bbq is brilliant so is the hot tub. Only problem was our hot tub took ages to come up to temperature we couldn't use it till the following morning. Bet we would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.
Fantastic base for easy travel to attractions like lake Windermere and Furness abbey. Pub is a short walking distance in local village, be warned local shop at garage is limited in supplies however, Tesco do deliver and we made use of this on 2 separate occasions. Hot tub is checked daily and when it stopped working was fixed within 24hrs. Cant wait to go back
Yvette
This property was perfect for our large family holiday which included 3 young children and our 3 dogs, the cottage is homely and has everything you could possibly need for a great stay. The view from the garden and hot tub is stunning. We are definitely thinking of booking this place for next year.
Andrei
Everything as per description. Hot tub was a nice addition especially during cold winter evenings. The cottage itself was great, however quite noisy from near by road, also real fire would be a nice addition.
I have put that the accuracy of listing was medium as I actually think the listing doesn't do this place justice. The rooms are really comfortable, spacious, the hot tub is beautiful and I don't think this is reflected in the photos. Kitchen is well equipped and there are enough towels for everyone. The showers are great and the rooms keep the heat well. We did have 1 issue with the TV remotes, they stopped working on the last day and we were unable to turn off or change channel. The people running the house were lovely and went above and beyond when we contacted them about a missing ring. It has now been returned! So big thank you!
Sharon
It was a lovely holiday, the cottage was superb very well equipped, Hot Tub is a lovelg and welcome after days out, the owners are very friendly and its no problem if you need anything. We had a lovely week, the local pub The Greyhound does excelent food and staff are very friendly. The only thing was when leaving the cleaners turned up before 10 am which made us feel under stress to get out quickly, which when you have a toddler isint easy.
Jacqueline
Fantastic week at Bank End Barn very clean and comfortable. Everything you need with home away from home feel. Hot tub fabulous with amazing views.
Christine
Bank End Barn had everything we needed. The hot tub was one of the highlights and the views were stunning. Plenty of room in the house and ideal for the dog as garden was enclosed. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Almost impossible to contact company on phone re questions before holiday, ... Almost impossible to contact company on phone re questions before holiday, someone did ring back after many attempts No welcome pack on arrival despite this being included House looking tired needs painting, carpets cleaned and generally smartened up Cleaning ok but cob webs on window frames were obviously missed Given cost expected better, but overall we had a good holiday
Judith
Beautiful cottage but needs a bit of love and care. Paint missing from some of the walls in the lobby, curtain broken in kitchen, staircases were old and next to useless and terrible dog smell from carpet in lounge. When we arrived en mass at 4.30pm the cleaners were still there on the friday and asked if we could go away and come back at 6 is! Not impressed as we had 2 babies with us and food delivery booked at 5pm.....house was not cleaned or hoovered properly at all and due to COVID we recleaned and hoovered the house ourselves! Not a great start to the holiday but we still enjoyed our break away, think very very expensive for an unloved cottage
Everything about the holiday was great and the house exceeded our expectations. Thank you
All I can say is wow what a beautiful house with absolutely stunning views, shame we went on lock down as wanted to go to the local pub for an evening meal, but went for a walk instead. The house has got everything you need, especially in the kitchen. Thank you so much x
Great location and excellent facilities. Loved every minute of our family holiday.
Gorgeous location with the Greyhound Inn just a short away was lovely! Thank you!

While there'll be plenty to keep you entertained an Bank End Barn itself, if you plan to get out and about and see some of what Cumbria has to offer, here are some of the nearby attractions you can enjoy during your stay. Please note that some of these activities and days out are paid and it's always a good idea to book in advance to secure your place where applicable.

Found a special day out near your cottage? Please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too!
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 5 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 15 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 17 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 17 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 21 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 29 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
