Coney Garth Retreat Reviews

Jeanette
Absolutely gorgeous and spotlessly clean. Beds very comfy and everything needed at hand. Could not fault it.
Coney Garth Retreat such a beautiful cottage and like a home from home just much better. Loved the quarkiness of upside down living and couldn't ask for better facilties and the hottub was just what was needed after a day's exploring. The host where simply amazing from the little welcome packs to the lovely homemade cakes and scones, and where most helpful providing lots of knowledge of places for us to visit. We will definitely visit Coney Garth again
Angela
We had a great time. The accommodation was first class and the owner very friendly and helpful. I would have no reservations at all in recommending it to anyone. Plenty to see and do in the area lots of information in the cottage and helpful ideas from the owner.
Douglas
Excellent holiday base. Brilliant upside down accommodation. Great first floor lounge and kitchen. The hosts, Geoff and Julie were very friendly and helpful. Amazing places to visit within easy reach of Beckermet. A great holiday.
Judith
Lovely accommodation with added bonus of a hot tub. Comfortable beds and well kept open plan livingroom kitchen. Julie was a fab host, providing great knowledge of the area and a delicious treat of cakes and scones midweek. Quieter part of the lakes with a beautiful beach and surroundings nearby to explore. Muncaster Castle and Wastwater are brilliant places to visit.
Alison
Lovely modern property and a warm welcome, after a rainy trip on the motorbikes. Coffee tea etc was kindly provided, as was a bottle of Prosecco biscuits and cake quiet private location, hot tub was used rain or shine, pub a walk away. Off road parking available. Lots of beautiful rides around the lakes and nothing too far away. Would definitely recommend and will happily return
Lovely house in a location just out with the busy tourist areas. Within a few miles of the local coop and a brilliant playpark around the corner for the kids. Most lakes were within 1 hour drive. The house itself was very easy to live in and we loved the upstairs living room as the bedrooms downstairs tended to be cooler at night. The hot tub was only used a few times and was well maintained and clean. The communication from the hosts was very friendly and helpful, suggesting local attractions that the kids would like Muncaster Castle was great!. They also dropped round home made scones and a bottle of bubbly which was very kind. Lovely break!

We had a super week stay at the Retreat, the accommodation was first class. The retreat is situated in a lovely village in a lovely area of Cumbria. The treat we recieved of fizz, lovely cream sconce, lemon drizzle cake and white chocolate cheese cake which arrived on different days during the holiday were all much appreciated. The hot pool was lovely and was used daily, even though the weather was hot for the whole week. Views from the garden and hot tub were very relaxing. My sister and brother in law visited and stayed overnight they were impressed by the property . Would certainly consider staying again sometime in the future.
Julie was very welcoming, providing an abundance of advice on days out which were excellent. A gorgeous cottage, which was very clean and with everything you could possibly need. The beds, settee and even the chairs at the dining table were extremely comfy. Lots of little extras like washing up liquid, dishwasher and washing machine tablets, foil, bin bags and even coffee pods! Dressing gowns and flip flops for the hot tub a great idea. The fizz, biscuits and scones much appreciated and delicious. Lovely aspect with all day sun. We totally relaxed and watched the sun go down from the hot tub every night. Thanks for a perfect stay a 5 star cottage and we will definitely be back!
Amazing space with a warm welcome . .. we had an excellent break
Joanne
Thank you to Julie and Geoff for a warm welcome to the cottage. It's in a lovely quiet location. The property was stunning and the fizz and biscuits were much appreciated when we arrived and the parcel of cake to take home was delicious! The location is great for access to the lakes and also the coast, we had a great stay!!
Michael
Stunning, affordable place to stay. Great location for the lakes, country pubs or general walking. We loved it, definitely be returning. We were looking for somewhere relatively close with a hot tub and we found this gem. When we fancy a hot tub, chill out then this will be the place we go, no need to search elsewhere. Clean, comfortable and modern. Great hospitality from the owners. We all loved it.
Beautiful retreat in a great place to explore the west side of the lakes. Extremely clean and well equipped, good views from the kitchen of the fells and a wonderful hot tub to enjoy. Would definitely recommend, the owners are friendly and welcoming with scones, cake, prosecco and Easter treats!...why wouldn't you want to come back? Thanks Julie and Geoff

We had a great week, lovely place to stay and very clean.
Absolutely brilliant. Exactly how it was described online. Would highly recommend. The owners greeted us with fresh scones which were lovely. Gave us recommendations on the local area for activities and food and drinks. Would definitely come back. Mark

We had a lovely trip in the Lake District. Despite the weather being not so great, the cottage was a real tranquil home away from home. It was well equipped and little things the owners had done like the welcome Prosecco, the cookies, scones etc just made the stay even more special. The cottage was clean, modern and the hot tub was a real treat, perfect for those cold days. Beckermet itself is a small town but friendly and a really nice place to just get away from the business of day to day life.
Philippa
Beautiful property, excellent hosts. Great location for lots of different activities
Amanda
I had a fantastic 3 night stay at the retreat. Julie was lovely and explained everything about places to visit and eat. Cottage was so clean and welcoming, such a quiet relaxing village, just what I was in need of. Thank you julie for the bottle of Prosecco, enjoyed in the hot tub and the wonderful biscuits and cake too! Hopefully will be back soon
Lesley
Beautiful property. Brilliant facilities. Lovely attentive hosts. Would thoroughly recommend this property for a relaxing break.
Excellent in every respect. It was an imaculate property. The owners provided many little extras which helped to make a superb place to stay.
Absolutely amazing place I would definitely recommend this to everybody to go and stay there. Everything is on your doorstep, Beautiful scenery, You have everything you need provided for you there. And the hosts are friendly and very welcoming. Perfect little touches with the scones fresh cream and jam, Oh and who can forget the bottle of bubbly to have in the hot tub. Perfect
Very warm welcome, great location, superb facilties and going the extra mile with a ready to go hot tub, chilled prosecco and freshly baked scones and cake. Luxurious experience all over!
In my view, the key considerations which elevate any assessment of holiday accommodation to excellent and above, are the extent to which the advertised description of the location and the accommodation is matched in reality, and the extent to which the owners go above and beyond to ensure that every small detail achieves perfection. 'The Retreat' more than justifies being classified as excellent. The introduction from Julie was welcoming and explanatory, augmented by her most appetising home baking. The accommodation was impeccably clean and furnished to the highest standard. The 'Retreat' is fully equipped and all appliances are provided with every necessary sundry. The Retreat enjoys the optimum location within Beckermet, being in the village but also on the edge of the countryside, and within 5 minutes walk of two pubhotels that is increasingly unique nowadays. Altogether, I reccommend the Retreat in the highest terms.
Must go, you wont regret it! This is the best self catering place I have ever stayed. Hot tub amazing, properly lovely, the hosts are perfect, shout to Julies who is just lovely and her baking is to die for, little complimentary extras such as Prosecco and the toiletries are really luxurious. They really understand what a guest looks for.
This cottage is absolutely gorgeous! We loved our time staying in the retreat. It was so clean and modern, light and the window in the kitchen was just wow. It made cooking so much more enjoyable The hottub was lovely and we often had the cows coming to visit haha. Overall, I would stay here again and would highly recommend it to a friend. Geoff and Julie are wonderful hosts and were there if we needed anything. Julie, your scones and cakes were delicious and made my partner very happy!
The cottage was well equipped to a high standard. It was situated in an attractive village with two pubs serving food within walking distance. The owners were friendly without being intrusive and ready to suggest amenities worth a visit. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and this area of the Lake District is less commercialised than other areas yet has some beautiful scenery.
Fantastic cottage cosy, comfortable, with everything you need provided well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, toiletries in the main en suite and mirrors beside plug points for drying your hair this is my pet hate as so many places don't have this, so extra bonus points from me! !. Lovely views from the upstairs lounge. Julie was friendly and helpful, giving us ideas of where to go and what to do. Really appreciated the bottle of fizz and cookies that were left for us as well as the scones and cake brought round on our last night. It's these little extras that make all the difference. Loved the hot tub at the end of the day. If I had to criticise anything, it is the lack of bright lighting over at the sitting area for evening reading. However would highly recommend this cottage.
We had an amazing stay here. The owners were fab and clearly really loved and looked after the accommodation. It was ideally located for us. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The house was really clean and so was the hot tub. The owners were very thoughtful and left lots of little treats for us mini eggs, cookies, Prosecco and some homemade scones and coffee cake! They also had flip flops and gowns available for the the hot tub which was really helpful and an airer to dry off wet costumestowels. All in all a lovely holiday.
A fabulous cottage in a great area to explore smaller lakes and beauty spots. Great facilities within the cottage couldnt think of anything else you could possibly need!!!
Angela
Accommodation was like home from home. Very clean and spacious. Host where very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend a stay here.
Rebecca
Beautiful accommodation, we had the perfect 1st stay in the lakes, we will definitely be back! !
Really nice and comfortable property. ....we had such a relaxing time. The hot tub was great and such a cozy sofa to snuggle into. The hosts were fantastic and the Prosecco and scones were a lovely touch as well....will defo reccomend the place to friends and family
Had a lovely stay at Coney Garth Retreat. The retreat itself has been done to a very high standard and is so homely. The hot tub is a lovely added extra, and was nice to use after a long day out. Hosts Julie and Geoff were great, providing information on places to visit and even providing toys to entertain the kids on rainy days, not to mention the amazing homemade treats, its no wonder people come back again.
Just perfect lovely cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. Could not have wished for more. Great hosts, lovely warm welcome.Prosseco, biscuits and coffee to welcome us. Fresh homemade scones during our stay. They even gave us some delicious apples from their garden when we left. Which we have just finished. So we will need to retur soon.
Julie and Geoff Nugent were very helpful and ensured we were happy with everything on our arrival on during our stay. They were both very informative of what was around the area to do and visit. Geoff took us around the luxury retreat on arrival, explaining everything we needed to know. The situation of the retreat is very peaceful, beautifully kept and the village itself was ideal for walks and for a visit to the Royal Oak pub for lunchdrinks is highly recommended. The hot tub was a lovely bonus which was checked on a daily basis. The nice touches of the prosecco, biscuits and home made scones was really appreciated and the scones were delicious. I would definitely recommend the retreat to anyone as it is definitely a luxury escape from real life!
A fabulous cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Julie is a lovely host freshly baked scones, with jam and cream, delivered on a very wet day lifted everyones mood! The Royal Oak in the village serves superb food. Recommend paddle boarding on Wastwater and a trip to Go Ape Whinlatter if youre with teenagersyoung adults. Seascale is lovely and has a fabulous ice cream shop too. Coney Garth is a great base to explore the West Lakes from.
Wow! What a fabulous place! The accommodation was amazing, decorated to the highest of standards with all the luxuries you could possibly want! The local area is beautiful and quiet, we loved taking the cycle routes to Seascale for beach days and ice cream and to Gosforth for some yummy Italian food! Wast Water was incredible, one of my favourite days! The Ravenglass railway and Muncaster Castle are close by for and well worth a visit! At the end of busy days we came back to the cottage to relax in the hot tub and enjoy the fizz and other treats left by Geoff and Julie fantastic hosts with great local knowledge and ideas about how you can spend your holiday! Wed waited so long for this holiday and it was definitely worth the wait! I dont think Ive ever felt so relaxed and refreshed! We cannot wait to come back! Xxxx
Another great holiday at coney garth. Julie was very accommodating and responded to requests as well as checking on our comfort. We would definitely recommend staying here!
Well thought out quality cottage, couldn't fault it and the owners were very generous lovely people
The cottage is beautifully furnished a true retreat. The views are stunning. Local area has lots to offer hot tub was a bonus. Highly recommend we will be back.

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 19 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 21 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 23 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 23 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
