The lodge was very good with only one minor niggle not being able to find the control unit for the fire. This next point is about the site. Finding the lodge in daylight was easy. finding it at night not so easy as the signage is difficult to read when dark. after two nights of aimless wandering the penny dropped re directions.
Lovely lodge. We brought my brother who has mobility issues and the lodge was perfect, giving us some much needed space in a fantastic setting and location. Would definitely book again.
The bed in the main bedroom is definitely a double and not a king as advertised, The ensuite basin and shower drain were blocked. The shower in the ensuite is totally unsuitable as too big for the enclosure. There was no remote for the tv in the main bedroom. Thick dust behind tvs and floors not particularly clean. Various kitchen utensils tired and the peeler didnt work. The internet was shocking and intermittent.

Wonderful log cabin , clean, modern and well fitted out. The hot tub was very well used by my 2 teenage boys, private and well maintained by the facilities team. Cabin was 5 mins from the lakeside which was great . The staff and facilities were great and the cabin was very private at the end of a culdesac

Wouldnt recommend this place to anyone with pets or small children because it is over run with rats and you will get no help until the day you are leaving we have all came back Ill and had no use of the hot tub due to the rats running around would never recommend this place and have photos to prove it
Lodge absolutely outstanding, you could not wish for anything more to be provided in the lodge. The only disappointment was the lack of entertainment in the club and on two nights last orders being called at 9 45 please thank owner for wonderful lodge John Lister
Good location for exploring the lake district. Our two sons loved the 5aside court and had a brilliant time playing with younger and older kids. However, there were elements that were disappointing. Directions for finding the lodge were poor and incorrect. A wrong gate entry code in our arrival email meant we caused a holdup trying to get into the park. Very poor cleanliness when we arrived. There were pills and medication left loose on the carpet in one of the bedrooms. If we had been with very young children this would have been a serious concern. The floors possibly had been hoovered but we found the hoover was broken, quite obviously so and there was a dustpan but no brush. One of the curtain blinds in the bedroom was completely off the wall and just on a dirty floor. The screws had physically been pulled out of the wall. Despite advertising there was an allocated space to BBQ, there was no BBQ slate or brick to protect the decking, meaning that despite the advertising, we weren't able to a shame considering we had good weather. There is no WIFI at the lodge, despite advertising to the contrary. When we enquired about this at the main reception we were told the wifi signal there was probably too weak. The hot tub was lovely, a real bonus at the end of the day. This doesn't appear to be cleaned or tested daily, although there is a sign to say it is. On two occasions the filter was left in pieces in the water and not put back together. After mentioning this to reception, there was no visit or fix so we just used it as it was and hoped for the best. We were told the bar, restaurant and areas surrounding it were not dog friendly by the park reception prior to the visit. This was incorrect, dogs can go everywhere apart from the play park. We phoned Sykes twice during our stay to try and fix a few of the bigger problems. The Sykes helpdesk were very good. Ringing us back when the line got disconnected was much appreciated. Even after these calls only some of the problems were fixed, and required people coming into the lodge during our holiday to try and do maintenance, which seemed the wrong time for this to occur. The help desk also informed us that they only hear of problems when people phone up to let them know, which begs the question what sort on ongoing maintenance contract is there? If I was the owner of this lodge and was renting it out, I would be pretty frustrated at the problems we encountered. For this amount of money, I would look elsewhere for a family holiday.
Its a lovely lodge with everything you could possibly need, very spacious, modern, comfortable and clean. The only downsides I would say is firstly there isnt a roof over the hot tub which wouldve been better as it rained a lot so we didnt make as much use of it as we wouldve liked. Secondly the park WiFi isnt very good, dedicated WiFi in the lodge would have been good as it wasnt usable at all for large parts of the day. That said we had a lovely week and really enjoyed our stay. Its a great base for exploring the lakes!

At first arrival everything seemed good, but as we came to use the facilities we found the lounge remote had no battery cover, the vacuum cleaner hose was split, the fridge door didnt always shut, the main bathroom shower door is a bit stiff to close in places,BUT worst of all was when we removed the main bedroom duvet cover for washing as requested there was a massive pee stain on the duvet itself, DISGUSTED
Amanda
The double bed is too small for two people and no, were not overweight. I took it and can honestly say its the worse bed Ive ever slept in. A big thick winter duvet during a heatwave, old and worn duvet cover and pillowcases, and, horrible pillows which have created a problem with my neck. I darent join my husband in the twin room as he said the same and the beds looked fit for children, not adults. The red decor is depressing and old fashioned and those Roman blinds dont filter air through. The shower in the en suite is very small so we used the one over the bath. The toilet flush in the bathroom isnt in very good working order. The little tv in the main bedroom doesnt work. I had maintenance man out who appeared to fix it but then when I went to bed to watch it, it was broken again. I dont believe for a second that youre not aware of it either. The oven doesnt look safe, you can only turn it off by switching it off at the main switch on the wall. What happens if someone assumes its been turned off and goes out? The switches on the oven are faulty? I was surprised that there wasnt any handsoap in the bathrooms. There was some in the kitchen. We also had to ask for toilet paper. I wouldnt class staying in the lodge as cheap and there are areas which didnt meet my expectations which didnt make me feel like Id got value for money. Nobody had swept the decking and it was filthy. I think someone needs to take a good look at it and maybe have a night in that bed so that you understand what Im saying. The position of the lodge was perfect under the trees during the heatwave. Ps why are kitchen weighing scales in one of the kitchen drawers without batteries? Neither use nor ornament.
There was no brush to sweep the decking the back was missing off the TV remote ... There was no brush to sweep the decking the back was missing off the TV remote other than it was brilliant and we booked for next year we had good time the weather was good see u next year
Lovely lodge we had a great holiday. All information provided accurate and easy to follow. No difficulties with any of the equipment. Hot tub easy to use and hot. Lodge clean and everything you would need was provided. My only concern was the blind cords in the twin room were not secured. This was the room the children were on so I had to tie them up to make them safe.
Lovely comfortable lodge in a secluded area of the park. Great location for exploring the Lake district. Had a great stay
Kalpesh
Very good stay and enjoyable however not very dog friendly unable to let the dogs loose anywhere on park
Nice lodge overall couple of things could do with updating blinds were broken and a slat missing, fridge door didn't close properly, grill didn't work very well and the couch cushions were a bit worn out. Absolutely no wifi, or 4G, nothing to do with lodge as it's park wifi but just as an FYI would be a nice touch perhaps to install a hub for the lodge. These were all small things though and didn't overall impact our stay really hot tub lovely, bed comfy, good location and very private. Okay value for money compared to some of the others at least in the park. Would probably stay again but could do with a little bit of TLC.
Property is in need of a deep clean and various maintenance repairs. Holiday was disrupted 2 full days in a row by a construction team working right outside our lodge. During the whole stay the entire park resembled a building site. We rang Lake District lodge holidays and after taking our details were told that a member of the local office would be in touch, that was Wednesday the 24th. Still waiting for your response! That was our 13th consecutive visit to White cross, likely to be our last too. Very disappointed, especially for the price!
Graham
To whom it may concern, I would like to bring to your attention my disappointment with my recent stay at the Oakwood Lodge, Windemere which was purchased through the Sykes Cottages Website. Unfortunately, this property was described as a lodge which it clearly isnt. It is a form of static caravan with cladding which looks like a lodge. First impressions of the caravan were that it was acceptable, however this quickly changed when we spent the first few hours in the caravan with our 6yearold and 9monthold children. There was a dirty dishes in the cupboard, and we could not find a brush and shovel anywhere within. I did however find a mop which was filthy and unsuitable for use. Despite my wife washing it twice on a hot wash in the washing machine it was still unusable. This resulted in us having to use baby wipes to clean the mess on the floor. Which in turn meant our 9monthold was restricted to the travel cot and highchair which was also unclean and unhygienic. The straps were covered in food and other detritus. The blind in the twin room was broken. It would go down but would not go up. As were both blinds in the living room, one had to be manually moved along due to the control stick being broken off, the other had the control stick attached but was missing key fittings and not held safely captive. The fridge was a really poor fit and would not shut unless it was lifted into position. The toilet seat in the main bathroom was loose therefore anytime you sat on it, it felt like you were on a fairground ride. There was also a crack on one of the floor tiles and the tile itself was wobbly. I did note that the proprietor was aware of the crack in the bedroom wardrobe mirror. For as nice a feature the hot tub was it in full view of the veranda on the neighbouring caravan. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I could not get the decking outdoor lights to work, and I also noted that there was a broken spar fencing beside the hot tub. It should also be noted that the end drainpipe next to the living room was disconnected and clogged with weeds, twigs and moss. Critically though was the lack of WiFi at the accommodation. Our welcome note stated that WiFi was supplied by the site, however this WiFi was very weak, slow and unable to penetrate into the property. WiFi was only accessible outside the property. For a 4star accommodation I would have expected our own WiFi within the accommodation. In conclusion I was not impressed with the money that I spent for the service we received. This break cost my family 914, and I was very disappointed. I look forward to you responseexplanation to these small issues I found Regards Graham Gulvin
Lodge was absolutely spotless when we arrived, great quiet location and perfect for relaxing.
We absolutely loved our stay in Oakwood Lodge. This was the first time that we took our dog away with us and she loved the place as much as we did. It really felt like a home from home Thank you for allowing us to share your lovely accommodation, we will definitely be returning. Warmest Regards Paul, Scott and Maggie the dog
Lovely cottage in a very quiet location, it is in need of a few small repairs though, one side of the blinds didnt close in the living room, so anyone could see in of a night time. Kick board in the kitchen loose, crack in the mirrored wardrobe and a few other bits needed some attention but only minor and easy to resolve things. Its a very spacious cottage and spotlessly clean and the hot tub was fantastic the issues we had wouldnt put me off staying there again we enjoyed our break there.
Stayed October half term, excellent location and very clean lodge, hot tub was clean and ready to use as soon as we arrived, no issues at all with the accomodation, would definately recommend, but as the resort is managed by Parkdean who seem to have serious organisation issues with the leisure club swimming as one person says that you have to book and another person says that it is 'first come, first serve', so only used the pool once in 5 days. Having to order drinks and food at the barrestaraunt on an App is a pain as wifi is so hit and miss. Would 100 stay again at the lodge, absolutley fantastic time, even though the weather was not the best we made the best of what we had.
Valerie
WiFi is not accessible in this lodge. We tried numerous times but always failed to get a connection. If you step outside onto the decking you get connected but it drops the connection frequently. Basically don't expect to get on the internet if you are staying in this particular lodge. Also a few issues with facilities in the lodge itself which we reported to maintenance no knob on the main oven so unable to turn it on to cook anything don't know why it wasn't reported by the previous occupants! Shower doors in ensuite have worn out runners so impossible to close one of the doors smoothly. Both issues could not be rectified during our stay due to having to order replacement parts. Lodge itself is comfortable, hot tub is great. Lodge only has dark coloured roman blinds on all windows except patio windows so during the day it is a case of no privacy and daylight or privacy and darkness. Slight issue with people cutting through down the back of the lodge to get to caravans in another area. On site shop has basic essentials but a bit on the pricey side.
William
There were crisps on the floor in the twin bedroom and you could tell someone had eaten in there. We had a meal in the Boathouse bar. It was very bad.
The lodge was the most spacious that we have ever stayed in, very comfortable and everything that we could need to make our stay perfect. Situated in a nice quiet part of the park but not too far from the clubhouse and lake access. The park itself is within walking distance of Bowness and Ambleside Just!!! which is useful during peak season when parking is manic!
WiFi is needed. There is zero WiFi or phone signal in the lodge.
We had a lovely stay at Oakwood Lodge. Unfortunately the weather was rubbish during our stay which meant we spent much more time in the lodge than anticipated, however this didnt spoil our stay as the lodge was perfect for me, my partner and our pooch. The lodge was comfy, spacious and had everything needed to complete our stay, plus the location was good too being a short drive to Windermere and Ambleside.
The towels provided for showering weren't really adequate, we're not big people but the towels were too small. The bedroom and bathroom doors were extremely squeaky and need oiling, if you needed the loo in the night you were worried about waking everyone up. Also people were cutting through from caravans at the back of the lodge which spoilt our privacy as they'd walk past the bedroom and lounge windows. If these things we're sorted it would be a 1010 lodge. We were extremely disappointed that we weren't made aware of the need to book a slot to use the swimming pool and that all activities needed to be pre booked, as we weren't park Dean guests we weren't able to book before we went which meant there was no availability by the time we arrived. We were disadvantaged having not booked through Park Dean.
Miss Erin Gibbs
The lodge was decorated beautifully and everything was to a high standard. I received a phone call on the day I was due to check in to inform me the previous guests had broken something and that It was due to be fixed. I thought it was a nice touch that they phoned to say this, most places wouldn't. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The lodge was beautifully decorated. What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? A walk to Windermere
Mr Clive shall
Shower screen door had been smashed prior to arrival and could not be fixed so had to use shower over bath which was very poor pressure. Also on arrival a very strong odour like old grease which stayed throughout our stay in the main living area. Also no WiFi at all or 4g Other than that it was ok but did expect better quality for the price. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Surroundings What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Private electric boat on lake
Miss Sandra Ormston
We had a fabulous weekend Friday to Monday wishing we had booked the week was lots to do and see. Oakwood exceed our expectations hot tub was set back not with high enough fence around for your privacy lovely Thanks for experience of your lovely place What did you enjoy most about your stay? Comfort location What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Lakes. Muncaster Castle
Mrs Justine Evans
It was very clean but overpriced. It did look like it had a fresh coat of paint but some things in lodge looked tired. Outside also needs maintaining, decking needs painting, table and chairs all green from trees you couldn What did you enjoy most about your stay? Peacefulness What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Marina
Miss Claire Rochester
We had a fantastic weekend at Oakwood. Lodge was clean and fresh. I think it has been recently decorated and looked good. Hot tub is fab, lovely and warm. The rules say to have plastic cups in hottub but none provided so it would be helpful to add them to cupboards. If you have kids, take nonslip socks as it is laminated. Everything you could need was there. I would live in it if I could! Thanks Claire What did you enjoy most about your stay? Cosy lodge What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Brokhole was great for kids and is a 10min walk.
Miss Vicki Thomas
Overall we enjoyed our weekend, but it could have been better. Alot of comments on other reviews mention the lodge decor being out of date. I found it was pretty good to be honest but the showers were a problem. The family bathrooms shower head kept dropping which meant showers took twice as long and were difficult when the younger children used it. The ensuite shower door was unhinged and therefore couldn't be opened without a fight. I reported both whilst there but no one attempted to fix them. We couldn't leave the decking doors open as there was no way of holding the blinds back. With young children that was just an accident waiting to happen. Also all of the blinds had the safety clips on them except the children's bedroom. The place you would expect to find them. Other then those issues the lodge was lovely, well stocked kitchen equipment, comfy beds and lots of storage space for your belongings. The site it's self was nice, lots of sign posts. We ordered takeaway from the site restaurant, the food was lovely but they got the order wrong both times and could here the staff being rude about other customers. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Family time What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Brockhole
Mrs Lisa Wilkinson
We came for our second stay at Oakwood lodge after loving our first stay there the year before. Unfortunately over the last 12 months the lodge has seemed to become very tired looking and not at all up to the standards from the year before. Also we did have a couple of nights where we were awoken in the early hours of the morning to drunken arguments from the occupants one of the parks rental caravans behind us, this is the first time this has ever happened when we have stopped at white cross bay it What did you enjoy most about your stay? The weather and beautiful surroundings What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? A visit to Brockholes just a short walk away
Mr Chris Williams
Myself and my family stayed at the lodge for three nights in October as it was a birthday present for my husband the stay was nice but unfortunately the condition of the lodge was not to the standard it was a couple of years ago it needed some tlc and a make over and some things replacing as there was some damage. The park and staff were lovely and the park quiet especially at night we was not disturbed one bit I would recommend the park as there are some beautiful lodges on there and a fantastic view from the jetty I am saying no to recommending but would if the issues were solved as it is a quiet location for the lodge to be What did you enjoy most about your stay? The relaxation What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Take a walk down to the lake and explore the scenery
Mr Jonathan Bell
My wife & I, along with out 2 miniature dachshunds recently returned from a 10 day break at Whitecross Bay, staying in Oakwood Lodge for the 4th time in 5 years. Oakwood Lodge is positioned in an excellent location, tucked away at the very end of a culdesac, so it's very quiet. Our 4th experience of Oakwood Lodge is a little mixed & although it provides a very homely & warm feel the decor & some of the furniture could do with upgrading, as this has not changed since our 1st visit, therefore things are looking a bit tired. This is a shame because Oakwood once held a Diamond rating due to it's high quality finish, which was the key factor in our returning, however we feel that the previous high standard has slipped somewhat. That said Oakwood Lodge was clean & tidy & provided comfortable accommodation for all, especially the bed in the main bedroom which is very comfortable. The kitchen provides all the mod cons, although we did require a new toaster, which Lake District Lodge Holidays replaced soon after reporting the broken original & the Hot Tub is great for relaxing in following a days walking. We will be returning to Whitecross Bay next year & it would be nice to stay at Oakwood again following some much needed TLC. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The park's location to Lake Windermere What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Elterwater, a lovely walking experience & a good pub in the heart of the village
Mrs Jayne Dyer
The lodge is in a small cul de sac, so it's nice and quiet, the hot tub is virtually secluded, The decor, size and layout is very good. We put the heating on of an evening and the hole lodge was very warm and cosy. The hot tub was a lovely bonus and just what you need after a day of long walks. If I had to fault it, I would say the pillows and quilt in the master bedroom were quite flat, if they replaced them with some new fluffy ones, the bedroom would look far more inviting. Could also do with a bath mat in the ensuite, The leather sofas are reclining and very comfortable, it's just a shame that through wear and tear there are some rips in the material. This aside, we found the lodge a clean, warm comfortable place to stay and would not hesitate staying there again. I would recommend without hesitation. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Was in a lovely location. Plenty to do, close to Ambleside, Grassmere, Bownees, Windermere and beautiful walks., What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Catch the Hop on hop off bus, just 2 mins walk to the bus stop from the park. Was only ?8.50 for all day, we visited Boness, Grassmere, Ambleside, Winderemer. Passing some lovely sinery along the way. Took the stress out of driving and no paying for parking. Dog loved it, sitting on the open top deck. The buses run on time, one about every 20 mins.
Mrs Bridgette Walsh
Lovely lodge and location. Set in a little cul de sac in the corner away from everyone. Lovely hot tub. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The location What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Brockhole

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
