Striding Edge Lodge Reviews

Humaira
The lodge was very comfortable and catered for all our needs. The only downside to our stay was that the boiler stopped working on the second night, which meant that there was no hot water. This spoilt our experience as we couldnt shower after using the hot tub. This prevented us from using the hot tub. Also the central heating didnt work. Maintenance were able to fix the boiler in the morning. So we had a whole evening and night without hot water or heatings. However once it was fixed we felt that the lodge continued to struggle to heat up. The hoover wasnt working, and it would benefit other lodgers if there was a mop and bucket on site to use after being in the hot tub and in the shower area.
I read other reviews before we stayed and generally what I read is true. It's a nice lodge, good spot on the park, it's snug, the beds are comfy, the facilities in the lodge and on the site are decent and we enjoyed our stay. There were no functional issues with anything at all in terms of the lodge, everything was fine. But....it suffers from a lack of personal touch and is showing signs of age and some of the stuff could easily be sorted. Little things like the hot tub buttons have worn away so you can't see which button does what. We only figured out there was a light under water on the last day. The decking furniture is going rusty, seat pads are like super thin. Easily sorted things! The outside fencing and flooring is starting to go rotten in places too, particularly the gate and the decking around the hot tub. And the actual lodge external walls have had paint layered on top of paint to cover where it's blistered which makes it look a bit of a mess. Not big deals and none of it affected our holiday at all but when you've paid over 1k for a week you want a little bit of luxury and I didn't feel like it had that. Some of the kitchen utensils in the drawers were dirty and there were some dirty pots in the dishwater too when we arrived. That's no fault of the owners, it's entirely down to the previous guest who was too lazy to clean them. But again, it's not what you want. Maybe it's to be expected when a 3rd party company is managing things. They'll be using minimum wage cleaners who've got 10 lodges to clean in 2 hours so all you get is a superficial cat lick. I can put up with that when I book a Sun 9.50 a day break at a Haven Park in Scarborough but not when you're on a 5 luxury establishment. Things like a dirty sponge scourer and a plastic food label left on the decking. Just silly careless stuff! I saw the owners responded to a similar review by saying they stay regularly and they take a pride in it. I have sympathy with them. I can't imagine the costs of maintaining a lodge on a park like Limefitt and the last thing you want to do when you visit yourself is spend all your time painting and decorating but it really needs a spruce up. It probably reads like I wouldn't recommend this lodge but I would. It's in a great spot and we did have a good time. It just needs a bit of TLC. That's all! It wouldn't take much to make it perfect. Just a word about the site. There's a lovely BarRestaurant but they kept closing early because they said it was quiet. Even Saturday night they called time at 9pm which was frustrating. That's really bad, short term thinking. We just didn't bother going in after the 4th night because of it so they've pretty much done themselves over there! Self fulfilling prophecy. How do you expect to be busy if you keep randomly closing early?
Striding Edge is a really lovely lodge with nice decor, amenities and plenty of storage. The hot tub was great for aching legs after lots of exploring too. The site itself is so peaceful and great location, and lovely helpful staff in reception and at The Haybarn Inn we were having a bbq on a Sunday and forgot ketchup shop shut and food well on the way to being cooked pub to the rescue!. We also had an issue with the entry fob and boiler during our stay but these were both dealt with quickly by on site staff. A fantastic week in a fantastic lodge the only thing which could be improved would be the mattresses, which are very soft but we are already looking at when we can return. Thank you!
Just returned from a weeks stay Aug 2023 Lodge clean and cosy. Hot tub amazing after long walks. Limefitt was so quiet and peaceful with stunning views. The Haybarn Pub was so friendly and welcoming with a good selection of food and drinks offering take away options too! Mandy and the team were lovely . Launderette on site to wash and dry clothes. Fabulous break away. Thank you.
Johanna
Thank you for such a lovely stay! Was really needed and the lodge park itself was just so peaceful. Definitely recommend
Great lodge set in beautiful quiet park in a perfect location. .. will come again...
Good location. Modern kitchen. Decking area well positioned offering privacy and in the sun all day. Hot tub well positioned for privacy. Not our first stay at Limefitt but first in this property, will book this lodge again.
Sharon
Fantastic weekend, location was amazing, we enjoyed some beautiful walks. Acomodation was excellent, even the hotub was cleaned each morning ready to use again. We did notice small build up of bit of dirt behind bathroom door that had been missed by cleaners but not big deal. Staff at the onsite pub and shop were so friendly. We had a great time, and would a million percent return and recommed this place to all our friends. Thank you so much for for a great weekend. .
Absolute fantastic lodge with great facilities and highly recommend to anybody ... Absolute fantastic lodge with great facilities and highly recommend to anybody either for short break or long term Couldnt of wished for a better place for a break Would just like to thank everyone And owners Mr stewart

Another wonderful stay at Limefitt. Striding Edge is a real home from home. Well equipped and very spacious. Lovely welcome gift on arrival which went to a good home. We will be back. Loved it
Andrea
Had a fabulous stay in Striding Edge this weekend. The lodge was beautifully clean on arrival, really well equipped with lovely decor and furniture, a real home from home. The beds were so comfy and they hot tub an added bonus. Can recommend the pub on site too. We got a taxi into Bowness on two days, cost roughly 10 each way.
Beautiful place to stay. Cabin was wonderful and the hot tub amazing. I couldn't fault the facilities and the maintenance team especially Kate Hayton who was wonderful when we need help with the tv. But I must stress that the site does need to sort out it's WiFi. You can't advertise it if half the camp can't get on it! Not really fair.
Lodge was ok apart from the cleaning not being very good. Dust on the lights in the living room, mirror in the main bedroom and the shower tray in the onsuite needed a bit more care when cleaning it. The decking was very slippery when you came out of the main door and the railing needs replacing as a few of the postswoodwork is rotting. Shame really as the beds are really comfy!
The relaxed place & fantastic location of the park.
Claire
From start to finish everything was great, this was our 4th time at limefitt park and would highly recommend it. Striding Edge has been our favourite lodge having stayed there 3 times now, it has everything you need as a home from home experience and is so well equipped and having the hot tub to relax in during the day or evening is amazing. The Onsite the park and the hay barn inn are really good and staff are really helpful and friendly. From the site itself you can explore nearby Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal all a short drive away. We even drove to Manchester to visit the legoland discovery centre as a surprise for our wee boy. We cannot wait to visit limefitt again. Thank you for another great holiday experience.
We loved everything about our stay at Striding Edge Lodge! The hot tub inparticular! We cant wait to come back! Thank you.
Very comfortable beds, even in the twin room for my sons who are both over 6ft! Hot tub was a lovely addition. A bit temperamental at first but we raised the issues and they were dealt with in a timely way. Shower was excellent such good pressure. We would have liked a bbq at the property. Very comfortable cabin on a lovely, quiet site.
Stephen
The site is lovely and peaceful and a convenient place to use as a base to explore further afield. The lodge itself is possibly one of the best equipped lodges we've ever stayed in it really has everything you need. Not overly impressed with the maintenance team though. The outside light had a dodgy sensor which meant we were in semidarkness most of the time outside in the evening and it was way too hot to sit inside the lodge. Added to this was the fact that the hot tub light was also broken so outside lighting was poor. The main bathroom light also stopped working so there was no way to use this room once it was dark without leaving the door wide open. Despite reporting all this nothing was fixed. The maintenance team really need to improve their customer service to match the quality of the lodge itself.
Danielle
Lovely clean lodge! Very comfortable, will definitely be back.
Hi I was disappointed with the cleaning of Theodore upon our arrival. The gate code left in the lodge was 2 months out of date and related to April. I also would have thought the hottub would have been cleaned during our stay.
I contacted you on arrival to say you hadn't provided a supply of dishwasher tablets, which you always have in the past. I was told some should've been left in a welcome pack didn't get one and to go buy my own! We don't have a dishwasher at home so to buy a box wasn't viable and we were left unable to use the dishwasher provided during our stay. Not happy with the attitude you say you want our stay to be comfortable and enjoyable but you can't even put a simple thing like this right. Seems as though things have changed not for the better now.
Kirsty
We had a lovely stay at Striding Edge lodge. It was a real home from home as usual and the new kitchen was a nice surprise on arrival. The lodge was very clean, and the hot tub a welcome treat each night after long walks during the day. We look forward to returning again in the future.
Mr Jeffrey Rule

We enjoyed another fantastic fortnight stay in the lakes. The weather was fab the lodge was clean and cosy, a real home from home and we left feeling very relaxed. We love the position of Striding Edge, we don't feel overlooked and the lodge has fantastic views. I would recommend this lodge to all my family and friends. We enjoyed our stay at striding edge lodge with our grandchildren. We had a problem with no hot water on the Sunday morning and called the helpline ,they rang back after 20 minutes and tried talking my husband through the problem, but when this didn't work the maintenance man called and sorted it out in 5 minutes .We did feel that parts of the lodge looked a little tired , mainly kitchen floor and kitchen cupboards so I think a little TLC could sort this out.Loved the location and the children enjoyed the park area . What did you enjoy most about your stay? Location What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Lakeland aquarium and go ape at grizdale forrest, and Brockhole
Miss Rachel Wildman
Stayed here for a long weekend and we enjoyed every moment. The location is so picturesque and only a short drive into Windermere or Ambleside. Lodge came stocked with all the required cooking utensilspans you could need and has a nice homely decor inside. The beds were comfortable, and the showers had good pressure. The outside seating area and hot tub are at the back of the lodge which provides some privacy from the main path through the park. Overall we loved our stay here. The only negative thing I would say is that the lodge does not have it's own internet router, so you have to conncect to the general park wifi which wasn't very good. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Beautiful location What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Enjoy the scenery on a walk or take a trip into Windermere
Mrs Michelle Brown

We stayed here end of September we arrived later than expected due to traffic, we found access to the key difficult as it was very dark and no lights on around the lodge, if arriving at night do take a torch. once we were in the lodge was great very clean and cosy everything we needed for our stay, could tell the owners have taken pride in its appearance, the hot tub was lovely and well maintained. we look forward to another visit in the future. 2nd stay at this lodge and we liked it so much from the first 4 night stay that this holiday was booked for a week, as usual the lodge was well equipped, clean and tidy and had everything you could need or want in it with the added bonus of the hot tub that my hubby, kids and myself really took full use of. Mrs Kirsty Rogers
Having stayed at Striding Edge before we knew we were going to a real home from home for a family holiday to celebrate both our 30th birthdays with our little boy. We weren't disappointed. We found the lodge to be immaculately clean as always, lovely and cosy and we especially liked the hot tub to relax in the evening after exploring new parts of the lakes we haven't previously visited. The lodge is in a very peaceful location with beautiful views and was the perfect holiday to relax as a family. We cannot wait to return for 2 weeks next year! The Haybarn Inn on site is very reasonable and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal there. We even done the walk behind the Haybarn pub which is a lovely circular walk, not too strenuous offering lovely views of the Troutbeck valley, Windermere and the Langdales, joining the main road back to the park past the church. We enjoyed it so much we did it twice and the 2nd time crossed the road and walked up into Troutbeck Village crossing the newly refurbished footbridge destroyed by Storm Desmond. As always thank you for an easy booking process, and thank you to the lodge owners for providing a real home from home for us to enjoy. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The cosyness of the lodge and exploring new parts of the lakes we haven't previously visited What one experience e.g attraction, walk, day out would you recommend for our future guests? Ashness Bridge and Surprise View it really makes you go wow! Near Keswick

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 3 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 8 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 16 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 20 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 22 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 23 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
