The Boat House at Louper Weir Reviews

The property certainly has the wow factor. After loosing my dad I wanted to get away on a break were I could just chill and relax and forget about everything and this did just that! The negative bits, we wasnt given an alarm fob so on entering the property for the first half hour we had the alarm blaring away! The oven hadnt been cleaned and I had to do this before using it. We couldnt use the kayak as it was full of water inside the base of it and needing lifting out and draining from inside and this was impossible to lift, way too heavy. On the last day we had to be out for 10am at 855 we were all packed and got changed for one last dip in the hot tub! We opened the door to find it being drained already, ridiculous when we are paying so much and basically being rushed out. The cameras yes I get it they are there for security but one facing the hot tub then one on the balcony and next door has a bigger camera all invading your privacy. Needs to be said as not right!
The accommodation was really nice we only managed to get out once because the weather was so bad but didnt mind staying in and just enjoying the view and the rest There is one or two things that could be improved but didnt spoil it for us .
Second time here we love it the views are breathtaking, We were sad to leave and ... Second time here we love it the views are breathtaking, We were sad to leave and no doubt will be back again, the only thing I would change is a mirror upstairs to get ready, still used the kayak just wrapped up warm as the water was very still, and used the hot tub daily,
The property itself is absolutely stunning, the only thing and this was THE only thing that let this place down, was the spiral staircase. We are a couple in our 30's and struggled on those stairs, its not easy taking a suitcase up and back down again. My wife fell down these on the 2nd day of us being there resulting in very bad bruising on legs, arms and back. you could easily put a normal staircase in there instead. For older people this would be no good at all, also would recommend you take your own pillows as they have duck feathered ones on the bed which were a bit too soft flat. Everything else was perfect, the views, the amazing sound system and smart tv was added bonus. i loved the kayak and was out every day. we would definitley come back if you change those stairs.

Lovely stay. Very well equipped property. Spiral staircase could be a problem for some.
Nicola
From the moment we walked through the door it was breathtaking. The boathouse has everything you need and more for a comfortable stay. The view is incredible , the facilities are outstanding. It was a perfect week to spend my birthday. I will be back and if the owner ever wants to sell give me a ring haaa. Thank you for sharing your property. We couldnt get our discovery onto the drive , however this wasnt a problem we parked at the top of the path. The spiral staircase was a bit tricky on entry but wasnt a problem , the bathroom was just great, and the hot tub was totally relaxing . The cctv we didnt find intrusive and considering I spent several nights by myself without my car was not a problem. To sum up my stay Love it , love it, love it . I cannot wait to come back again soon. Thank you
Girish
Had a lovely relaxing week at the Boat House. Agree with other comments about the stairs a bit of a pain going downstairs to the toilet in the night. Parking wasnt a problem but very glad we were in a small car. We opted to eat and drink at the boat house most evenings so wouldnt stay here if you like to go out at night and drink. Loved the hot tub and the amazing view will stay with me forever. Would definitely return.
WE TOOK TORCHES AND OUR OWN MIRROR. BUT WERE DISAPPOINTED THAT SOME OF THE MAIN REVIEW ISSUES HAD STILL NOT BEEN DEALT WITH. THE PROPERTY WAS NICE AND IN A GREAT POSITION WHICH SUITED OUR NEEDS, BUT WE WERE DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF FURNISHINGS IN WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A HIGH SPEC PROPERTY AT A PREMUIM PRICE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE LOUNG DINNING FURNITURE WAS ACTUALLY SOME GARDEN FURNITURE WHICH WAS A LITTLE ODD?? WARDRBE SLIDING DOORS RATTLED AND MOVED VERY CHEAP TO BE HONEST. THE CLEANING WAS NOT UP TO STANDARD AND THE FLOOR HOOVER WAS FULL OF DIRT AND DUST WHICH WE HAD TO EMPTY, UNDER THE BED WAS FULL OF DUST HAIRS AND DIRT.SHOWER AREA NOT CLEAN AND TILES HAD WATER UNDER THEM.COOKER EXTRACTOR FAN WAS DIRTY. THE OUTSIDE BALCONY WAS FIULL OF COBWEBS AND DIRT AND THE GLASS AROUND THE BALCONY WAS DIRTY AND LOOKED LIKE THE WHOLE AREA HAD NOT BE CLEANED FOR A WHILE. WE DID GO INTO LAKESIDE PROPERTIES AT THE END OF OUR HOLIDAY AND GAVE THEM THE LIST AS BELOW, THIS WE WERE TOLD WOULD BE PASSED ON TO THE OWNER. WE ARE A WEEK AFTER LEAVING OUR DTAILS AND NO RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER YET?? 1. ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS NEED A VISUAL MAP FOR HOW TO ENTER THE PROPERTY BY CAR AS NOT VERY OBVIOUS SINAGE 2. NO WELCOME PACK?? 3. NEEDS PRIVACY BLIND ON FRONT DOOR TO PROPERTY 4. NO FIRST AID BOX FOUND 5. NO COAT HOOKS FOR COATS BY ENTRANCE TO PROPERTY INSIDE?? 6. YET 6 COAT HOOKS IN HOT TUB AREA?? 7. NOTHING TO SWEEP AWAY DIRT OR WATER IN AREA BY WASHING MACHINE NEEDS LONG HANDLED SQUEGGY BLADE. 8. SPIRAL STAICASE WAS FOR WARNED AS TO NARROW ETC BUT IT WAS VERY FLIMSY AND MOVED ALARMINGLY WHEN USED NOT VERY SECURE. 9. NO LIGHT AT TOP OF STAIRCASE WHICH COULD BE USED AT NIGHT SO AGAIN UNSAFE. 10. NO WALL LAMPS BY BED OR ON WALL ABOVE BED VERY ODD?? 11. NO PROPER MIRROR IN BATHROOM JUST A SMALL SHAVING MIRROR?? 12. NEEDS LONG VIEW MIRROR IN LOUNGE AREA AS WELL 13. FOUND MOSQUITO NET IN WARDROBE BUT NO WAY TO HANG THIS BY DOOR SO HAD TO HAVE DOORS CLOSED AT NIGHT 14. HOT TUB WAS DIRTY WITH BITS IN BOTTOM WHEN WE FIRST USED IT AND THESE REMAINED ALL WEEK?? 15. SADLY, THERE ARE A LOT OF POINTS IN MY LIST THAT HAVE BEEN MENTIONED IN REVIEWS FOR THREE YEARS YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE
Mollie
We definitely enjoyed our stay and the view is to die for. Property was very clean and modern. However, the stairs into the property and the car parking did put us off a little bit. After a full day hiking it would be much nicer to have better stairs to walk up! Also a lack of a mirror in the main area was annoying. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes. Would we return? Probably not.
Great stay. Property is very nice. Would definitely stay again. Hot tub was nice but definitely no view to be had. The spiral staircase is much tighter than anything I have seen before, take small bags only. Access road is very steep, tight and restricted. Improvements could be... Louper Weir sign on the road needs some kind of light. Trying to find property in the dark was very difficult. Arrival directions need making clearer! Wasn't just us who struggled, neighbouring property did as well. Maybe provide full GPS coordinates past code no use or 'What 3 words'
Graham
Great accommodation, great location, well appointed and very comfortable. Excellent all round. My only gripe being the driveway, which was really difficult to navigate, especially when theres ice and frost around.
Jacqui
This property is absolutely amazing. The setting is just surreal and it had everything we could have asked for to make our stay one we will remember forever. The very steep and tight drive down to the property was worse than some reviews state so you need to take it nice and slow. One of us got out of the car to guide the other through the really tight area which is just by the entrance to the boat house. Very tight but fine when guided. It is also much easier to reverse into the space if you can as it is very tight coming out of the driveway. The narrow spiral staircase is again tight and not suitable for all, especially if you need the toilet in the night. We left the bathroom light on so we had some light in the darkness as there are no bedside lights or any lights on the staircase. Something to also stress to anyone considering booking as you are not told in the property description is the CCTV. They should by law let you know as one of the outside cameras is positioned looking directly at the hot tub. So if you are body conscious and do not want a camera watching you when you have very little clothes on then this is not for you. There is no need for the camera to be pointed directly at the hot tub it could be moved to just watch the stairsentry to the boat house. We did ring beforehand to ask about this and were assured the cameras were not monitored and did not cover the hot tub, but once you are there it is clear the hot tub is overlooked. If we had known we would have cancelled as we were not happy with this at all. There are also 2 other CCTV cameras, one on the balcony and one on the neighbouring balcony which you might find intrusive to your privacy. Other than the CCTV this is a truly amazing place to stay and one where if made aware you can make you own decision whether to book or not dependant on your preferences to being watched.
Great property and location, we enjoyed it so much we have already booked again for next year.
The property is superb definite wow factor in terms of the property and the views! A couple of minor points for the owner It would be handy to have a dustpan and brush in a kitchen cupboard to keep the floors clear of crumbs. The summary description could include that hairdryer, cleaning materials, tea towels, toilet and kitchen rolls are provided as we took all of these as they werent listed. A lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful place. Thank you.
Derren
Lovely place to stay, highly recommended. Wake every morning to the best view in the world.
We had a brilliant hol at the Boathouse, Louper Weir, enjoying all the facilities to the full. The view of Lake Windermere from the property far surpassed the photo on the website, amazing..Kayaking on the calm waters was a delight, with the luxury of a hottub to follow. The kitchen was excellently equipped. One constructive suggestion from a person of short stature would be for inclusion of a step stool or small set of steps, as I was unable to reach most of the electric switches.Whilst fully appreciating the reason for the siting of said switches, had my companion not been taller than myself, things would have been difficult. Overall, highly recommendable.
Heather
We had a wonderful week staying here at the boathouse. The view was spectacular. It was very clean and well equipped. Feedback is mostly positive. The two things which Could be improved were the staircase and the chairs, The spiral staircase was very narrow and very difficult to take lugggage up and down. This should have been flagged up in the details beforehand. The chairs were ok but I would have preferred a comfortable sofa. Overall though it was a really lovely stay and we loved having the use of the kayak .
Fantastic property with everything you could possibly need. Advertisement was 100 accurate and instructions left by owmer were very useful. Marked down on cleanliness for minor issues previous guest had left used pods in coffee machine, cheese grater in cupboard was still dirty, scuffs on walls by dining area. Didnt interrupt our experience however
I booked the boat house for my son and his new wife for their honeymoon and they ... I booked the boat house for my son and his new wife for their honeymoon and they loved it so much that they didnt want to leave
The boat house was nice and the view was what it was in the tin . .. The drive from Main Street down to accommodation was a bit steep and trying to reverse into your allocated space wasn't easy ! The worse part of boat house was the spiral stair... it was far too narrow.. we are slim built but had to walk up side ways to feel safe... trying to get luggage up was so difficult! We are both in our 70's and should have been notified of this !!!
Another fabulous stay at the boat house. The property is extremely comfortable, well equipped, spotlessly clean and superbly located. It was such a bonus to come back after a days walking to a hot tub and a drink on the balcony overlooking the lake. It has everything you could need for a self catering holiday and the washerdryer is an added bonus. Wifi would only connect in the downstairs utility and very briefly in the kitchen area which was an inconvenience but did not detract from the holiday for us but if wifi is important to you then this could be an issue. The smart TV worked fine without any connection issues. As mentioned in the listing the spiral staircase would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. The parking is difficult due to a very steep, narrow slope down to the property and not much room to turn around due to stone walls, gateposts and a raised manhole cover. We would recommend no larger than a medium sized car for this reason but we got used to parking there quickly and found that reversing into the parking space was easier. However the plusses of the property far outweigh any minor niggles and we love it so much we have already booked to go back for a third visit. Thank you for an amazing stay.
Rachel
The property location is fantastic, we watched the sun set over the lake from the balcony most evenings. The hot tub was used every night and was so welcomed after a day of walking. What I will add though is that the staircase in the property was very steep and narrow and so is the drive way and parking, so this property is not for everyone. The toilet is downstairs, so you do have to tackle the staircase if you want the toilet during the night, which was a tad challenging especially as there is no bedside lamp so we had to use a torch. To avoid getting the car out of that tight space we walked into Bowness along the main road several times, and caught a taxi back in the evenings for around 10. There are plenty of taxis available. There is wifi in the appt but we never actually managed to get it to connect. The washerdryer was a blessing though. All the cons mentioned above were soon forgotten about though once we were sat on the balcony over looking the lake watching that sun go down. Amazing, a thoroughly enjoyable week.
Beautiful place, terrible access. Information given to find the area was fine but the access to the place was confusing. Its difficult to understand that you have to drive through what looks like someones private drive way. Unfortunately we couldnt get hold of anyone who had been via the company as it was just after 5 when we found the junction so had difficulty working out access. Once figured out , the narrow sone drive and steep hill was a challenge driving a Kia Sportage where we did suffer a scrape getting into the parking area. The place itself was amazing and views beautiful. Facilities perfect. One factor was the stairs, they are Not suitable for anyone with impaired mobility, kids, larger people etc. it was a chore trying to get the bags up. Cameras are intrusive but after a while I just ignored them. All in all it was beautiful, we would come back but to one of the larger more accessible places in the development knowing the access issues.
Arunima
Everything was modern appliances and clean, the view from the seating area and balcony was the river, which was quiet and very relaxing. There was a kayak to use if we wished to. It was secure, the hot tub was lovely, clean and functional. We had an excellent stay and have booked for next year again.
Beautiful place, exactly as described in the listing, information on how to operate the hot tub would be useful. Other than that we had a lovely relaxing weekend.
Edmund
The squeeze of the driveway and spiral staircase do test on arrival, but you do get acclimatised to this miniature marvel. The lake level views are captivating with snow topped hills in the background and ever changing scenery. The kayak was great fun!
Omg, we both absolutely loved this place, as soon as we entered the gates at the top of the drive. We are already lookking to book again, but it is very popular which i s a good thing obviously. We were both gutted that we had to leave yesterday
Great stay, facilities were excellent. The only 2 things we thought that could be improved would be the circular staircase and security cameras invading our privacy on the balcony overlooking the lake.
Amazing place with outstanding facilities will definitely be staying here again in the future. Only thing I would change is the spiral staircase inside the property for a larger one or different layout which gives more room and better access as carrying luggage up and down was difficult.
Steward
2nd stay here. Great location. Property is almost perfect. Only slight gripe is the chairs. Would be nice to have a sofa or more comfy chairs. Electric gates were an issue when leaving at times as would not open sometimes without trying several times. But these are small issues.
The view from the boat house is the real selling point, waking up to that for the last week was breath taking. The boat house was clean and well equipped. The downside was the narrow spiral stair case, it was very difficult to get luggage up and down the stairs and it wasnt practical when needing the loo in the night, the open plan layout meant you had to put one of the big lights on so you could safely get down the stairs to the bathroom. Also now we are heading in to the winter months and the water is becoming quite choppy, we spent most nights awake from the kayak banging against the sides underneath us in the boat dock. Overall we did have a great time and the views are breathtaking taking, based on the staircase and the huge price inflation for the same dates next year, its unlikely we would go back.
What a fantastic holiday and place to stay. The facilities were great, amount of various kitchen gadgets was impressive to cater for all personal needs, ie, quooker tap, ninja, coffee machine of which we loved, especially as supplied with coffee pods, thank you! Loved using the sonar music system which was new to us. The bonus was the double kayak, supplied with life jackets of which we had a fantastic time exploring the lake, added with the jacuzzi to relax in later. The bathroom shower is lovely. The bathroom could be tweaked with a mirror on the wall over basin to make it easy for those who shave. Extra floor mats as water splashes out and over into bathroom for example. The spiral stairs are awkward, I sort of found my own technique to using especially as I suffer with my knee. There is no full length mirror upstairs so I left all my hair bits and hairdryer in the vestibule area and used that mirror for face etc. We only took small suitcases so managed to get up. On arrival we found the initial electric gates but missed the second lot of electric gates to go through. Another couple arriving did the same. Once we figured it out it became second to none. The road to the boat cottages is tight, really a smaller car would have been more apt plus the parking bay having to turn and reverse to get in or out. My goodness what a view over the lake awaits once there. We totally relaxed here after enjoying the many lovely surrounding towns. We picked up various leaflets from the information Centre at the top of High St, near Windermere Station when we arrived. The cottage agency is very near to them where we collected the keys. Windermere & BownessonWindermere have such lovely shops, cafes, pubs and eateries which we really enjoyed. Kendal was a lovely town again with fab shops and food places. We loved visiting the antiques emporiums in surrounding areas sourced from the internet. The towns get very busy with cars and carparks get full very quickly. Best to arrive early to get parked. Sadly, the volume of cars may lead to tail backs especially on change over days of cottages. Everyone we met in shops etc were so friendly and accommodating. Thank you to the staff who located my birthday cards and forwarded them to my home address. We thought the Lake District was amazing and this boat holiday cottage was just the icing on the cake. We would have booked again for same week but unfortunately it has gone up by considerably by 400. Such a shame!
One word WOW! We returned last week from the most wonderful stay at the Boathouse, we only live around 45 minutes away but we felt as though were in another world. The boathouse was such a beautiful place, with views you could only dream of, the sunsets were absolutely stunning especially when enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the lake and of course with a bottle of Prosecco! The sun set right in front of us each night and the views were just something else. In addition, the jetty out to the lake was the perfect addition and the ducks enjoyed this too as they visited us each day. We thoroughly enjoyed taking the kayak life jackets included out many times through the electric controller door and of course the jacuzzi which we relaxed in twice a day nearly every day! The boathouse itself featured some fantastic, high quality amenities the Dyson fan and speaker system were a favourite with my partner as well as the brilliantly equipped kitchen. The boathouse was very difficult to fault although the spiral staircase could be improved to allow less able people to be able to access the upstairs. In addition, the driveway is extremely tight and clearer directions on how to access the drive to the boathouse would be recommend. Overall, our stay was just perfect and we loved every minute a picture perfect, romantic place we cant wait to return one day. 7 nights just wasnt long enough. Thank you so much for a most amazing stay!

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 8 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 11 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 14 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 14 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 17 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 27 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
