6 Church Hill Reviews

Lovely clean cottage and the hot tub a real bonus. We took our own fold up table to use in the living room after reading previous reviews and it was extremely handy for putting drinks and snacks on when watching TV. Could I suggest that another large plate is provided to use in the microwave for cooking on, plus a splatter guard for the microwave to cut down on mess. We had a lovely relaxing week. Can Sykes amend their description of how to get to the car park as the Indian restaurant they mention is no longer there. Would be better to say turn left onto the car park just before the Talbot Hotel as this is easily visible.
Stephanie
Beautiful property and fab stay. Directions to car park need updating as India restaurant no longer open and in the dark we struggled to find it! Constructive feedback we couldnt find iron, board or hairdryer on listing so brought our own. Would have been good to know before hand they were available. A full length mirror and socket near a mirror would also be useful for getting ready. All in all brilliant cottage and location and we would use again.
Elaine
A lovely little cottage our second stay here. I love the location right opposite the church and how relaxing to listen to the bells chiming. The cottage has everything you need but is also minimalistic which makes it so much easier to manage. Will definitely rebook
Andrew
Thank you for letting us share your lovely home. Location was good.Bonus was the Food Festival was on.Took a couple of trips to the seaside. Was lovely to come back to the hot tub. No problem finding the nearby car park and unloading cases outside the property. Only thing I would say is like the other comments it would be beneficial to have a small coffee table to put drinks etc on in the lounge. Also maybe brighter bulbs in the lights as it was quite dark.Would definitely stay again.
Major problem with parking being so far from property. Quite dangerous to load and unload car at property as narrow pavement on one way street used as shortcut between major roads. Obviously little the owner can do about this problem, but not highlighted on your website at booking stage.
What a lovely 5 night stay. Perfect base for seeing Yorkshire and great to relax in the hot tub after a day out. Only thing i can say against the property is that the oven didnt seem to work as well as I would have expected we only used it once. Oh and no corkscrew!! One of the neighbours was very helpful though.
Amanda
Fabulous cottage close to amenities and very clean and comfortable. Had a really lovely weeks stay. Thank you.
Visited 6 Church Hill as a couple with our two dogs and really enjoyed our stay. The Cottage Compact, comfortable and very very clean. The hot tub in the yard outside is perfect. The bed is huge. The shower is great. Noticed the owners have now provided an hair dryer so no need to pack your own. Parking wasnt an issue once you got your bearings, very short walk away from the cottage. There is a church bang outside the cottage and the bells do start chiming at 7am they did wake us up but it is what it is. Location Wise Perfect location for exploring North Yorkshire. Dalby forest worth a visit which is 30 mins drive away. Malton train station 5 minutes walk away with a train to York and Scarborough every hour. We went to Scarborough for just over 12 return per person, it takes approx 25 mins. We didnt really do much exploring around a Malton but its a stones throw away from all the takeawaysshops etc. Overall we would 100 come back here as it was lovely and clean and a good central location to a lot of tourist hotspots.
Hannah
Great home. Only suggestion is a new mattress.
We had a lovely time at 6 Church Hill. The provided car park place was fine, a 3 minute walk if you go the back way. The hot tub is amazing and well maintained. We found the bed comfy but we dont mind a firm mattress. The only reason we didnt give it 5 stars, we wish we could have given it 4.5, was that I would have liked a hair dryer. A stool would have been helpful at the dressing table. We found the TV position fine and didnt have any problems watching it. The two things we missed downstairs were some coat hooks and an extra chair in the living room. The sofa was plenty big enough for two but meant I had to sit next to my husband haha. All in all great property, In good location. Would definitely recommend.
Stayed 4 nights with our little Boston terrier and the place was great. The location is perfect for Malton and the talbot food court, the butchers and coffee shop roost was a particular highlight. Try pizza on the square, great food and ales! A short walk in Old maltons direction gets you to a great field for off lead dog walking with access to walks along the river bring bootswellies if venturing from the field. Also being close to old Malton a 20 minute walk gets you to the Royal Oak which does great food and drinks book ahead. The instructions on finding the car parking spot are great and easy enough to park outside the property and unload the car sand move to the car park and not having to worry about car parking costs. The place was very clean on arrival. Wouldve have been nice to have a dishwasher but thats our laziness rather than anything else. The hot tub was the best one weve used as kept temperature really well and perfect for two people. Cant really fault it and would definitely use the place again if we go back to Malton.
Its a nice small place, the layout does not suit any more than a couple with one child. The booking allows for two adults, two kids and an infant but the dont have the space. The place is really small but I will say its very clean. Theres a small breakfast table but only enough space for two people. The same goes for the hot tub, its very nicely closed in and perfect for a couple only, even though the place is advertised to accommodate four people you can only be two at a time in the hot tub. The other downside was the parking which was about a 10min walk away. The lady was very helpful and made an effort to stay on top of the hot tub, the place was really clean so cant fault that.
Tracey
What a way to start 2023. This cottage was impeccable. The standard of cleanliness was better than expected. The cottage itself was a great base for discovering the surrounding areas of Scarborough and York. There was a dolce coffee maker which was a surprise for us. Alongside the hot tub this is a lovely hidden gem. The hosts came to check the chemical content of the hot tub daily but we didn't even notice that they were there. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a couple's break and will be telling my friends. Would be more than happy to visit again.
Victoria
I would firstly like to say that the property was immaculate. It was neutrality decorative and functional. It was close by to all facilities and just a short walk down the hill to pubs restaurants takeaways Etc The paid parking was a bonus however it wasn't outside your door but a walk away but only about 7 minutes. The bed was really comfortable. Secondly there is CCTV footage on the back patio the front door and the side gate!? Sure the owners are just being over protective of their property. However it does seem quite intrusive. perhaps they have had problems in the past. We were a middle aged couple and we didn't use the hot tub because I thought we were were overlooked by neighbours several and CCTV when getting out. Also! If the water temperature in the hot tub was the same as the Luke warm shower in the house which we couldn't turn up then it wouldn't have been not been pleasant I had goose bumps when coming out of shower.in the house It was purely functional for getting washed. In the summer may be ok but in december.then you expect some steam!! However due to the advance heating button it was always quite warm. Would highly recommend but hopefully owners will take on board comments No hair dryer!! Which I presume is a staple in all accomodation however if you want to do your washing and it is then no probs. Although I have no desire to do this on hols. There is a washing line outside
Overall fab. A few suggestions coffee table and small light in lounge. Mirror far too low in bedroom. Small freezer needed in fridge. Advice put on property of very steep stairs and sharp turn apologies if this is mentioned we didnt see Hot tub was brilliant as under cover. Very clean. Thank you
Enjoyable stay ideal to tour Yorkshire which we enjoyed,
Nicola
A lovely and well appointed cottage. Beautifully clean and served us well for our few days away in North Yorkshire
Sandra
The cottage was sparkling clean, hot tub was wonderful and the tubs of colourful flowers made the little courtyard a lovely little spot. We quite enjoyed hearing the church bells. We think that another chair, lamp and coffee table would enhance the comfort rather than a sofa bed in the living room particularly for the autumnwinter months. Being in close proximity to shops, pubs etc was good and when we stayed, there was a food festival which we loved. As the cottage was so close to the bus and train station, we made good use of public transport for days out.
Very clean, well organised cottage in the middle of Malton. Walking distance to the station and the market place and the feature shops and cafes. The cottage itself is very well situated. The church bells didn't bother us. The road noise was quite noticeable and cars using the lane as a short cut but the roadworks are to blame and they aren't scheduled to go on much longer. The cottage is clean and neat. The stairs are a bit scary for people with big feet but its a small cottage so it's to be expected. Everything in the cottage looks new and is modern. The patio is lovely and a good place to read or snooze. Didn't really use the hot tub much but it looked great in its little gazebo. The only thing we would have liked added to the cottage would be a little coffee table in the living room but I appreciate its a small space and the sofa is a pull out bed so it might not be practical. In Malton we visited the monthly market and bought lots of lovely food. We had an ice cream at the Groovy Moo and a Gin at the Rare Bird Distillery. We had Sunday lunch at the Talbot Malton which was excellent. The Yorkshire pudding dessert was very special. We had a couple of good breakfasts in Malton at cute cafes. The people of Malton are lovely Yorkshire folk and are very friendly. Morrisons is very close to the cottage although I wouldn't recommend their car charger as its very busy. There is a better charger in the car park opposite Yates and Sons which was never busy. The parking situation seemed odd at first but its actually very close by when you get your bearings and it was good to know the car was safely parked especially because we didn't use it every day. We got the train to York twice and went to the Races which was amazing! We also did the bus tour of York. Who knew that Dick Turpin is buried there! Also went to the designer outlet which was comparable to the ones we'd been to in Florida and is a good place to browse and have a coffee. Overall this cottage is clean, well appointed and a great base for exploring and we will recommend it to friends and family.
Michelle
Just come back from church hill, perfect location. It was a lovely stay, very clean and had everything we needed, hot tub was a definite bonus. Bed was firm but comfortable for us. The back yard was lovely with the flowers. Morrisons and Lidl is in walking distance. Only thing I would suggest is a lamp in living room for evening instead of having to have the big light on, not essential though. As per a previous review it was busy cars but there were temporary lights up which probably enhanced this however this didn't bother us as we were out most of the time. The church bells are lovely to hear so if you are expecting a lie in then don't stay here as they start at 7am every 15mins till 10pm, however you do get used to them so didn't notice too much towards end of week. Malton is a lovely town, highly recommend India restaurant, Royal Oak old Malton 1mile from church Hill for food. Its definitely recommended to book a table for all places in Malton as one evening we couldn't get in anywhere. We also used tangs Chinese. Maybe some info on local doctors, nearest hospital and vets etc in the folder, as our dog was either stung or bitten and had a reaction his face swelled and needed to find a vet so can recommend battle flats vets, Norton which is a 10min walk. They saw him ASAP. Wouldn't have thought of this usually but would have been quicker if there had been number to hand. Thank you for a lovely stay x would definitely stay again x
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was lovely and clean and we also enjoyed the hot tub. The only things missing were an ironing board, a hair dryer and a lamp in the living room but these are minor things and we thoroughly recommend it. The village of Malton is lovely, lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from.
This property is far from romantic. Church Hill is a rat run and traffic of all kinds hurtled past the lounge window from early morning until late at night. The saving grace was the rear courtyard garden. You would not go there for a peaceful holiday we actually cut our holiday short.
Excellent accommodation. Clean and comfortable. Clear instructions on how to work all appliances and hot tub was excellent and private. Close to Malton and a large supermarket is only 2 minutes away. Good communication with the owner. 100 would stay again
Steven
A great stay, fantastic cottage with all you need. Very clean and the property is very close to the town centre and within 5 minutes you will find a supermarket, shops, bars and restaurants. Only negative is the directions to parking. They provide them in coordinates which is strange considering it would be very easy to list a postcode. The car park is a 10 minute walk from the property and thankfully we contacted the owner who was able to provide the directions.
We had a very nice and relaxing stay the cottage is very clean and cosy nicely ... We had a very nice and relaxing stay the cottage is very clean and cosy nicely furnished decorated it had everything we needed the hot tub was fabulous we really enjoyed it every day lovely and warm The cottage is near to a church and it was so nice to hear the gentle chimes of the old church bells on the hour this was lovely to experience not highlighted by Sykes but well worth a mention it was so quant the town of Malton has lots to offer as does the surrounding areas full of beautiful views there is plenty to see and lots of places to visit lots of shops and lots of countryside to spend some quiet time in We got lost for a few hours daydreaming and taking in the scenery it was so refreshing just doing nothing just sitting on a park bench I would fully recomend this holiday cottage to anyone who is looking for a break or a bolt hole it was ideal for the 2 of us but can sleep 4 The owner Chris is a great host he was easy to contact and was helpful This perfect little place was well worth a visit which is situated in an area that has a lot on offer it can be busy if you hit the town or tranquil if you adventure to the countryside not forgetting the seaside which is only about 21 miles away Thank you Diane
