Derwent Cottage Reviews

Shirley
Lovely clean comfortable extra warm lol been a few times and love it
Debbie
Another fab few days staying at Derwent Cottage, lovely area, really comfortable and toasty cottage, love the hot tub. Wanted to stay longer, so peaceful there!
Myself and my family are just back from the most fabulous week in this beautiful cottage. The cottage is immaculate, the views are spectacular and the hosts are lovely. It felt like a home from home, one major downside we did not want to leave! The area is great, with so much to do we all had the best time and would love to visit again.
Possibly more seating in lounge, extra chair would help. 2 two seater settees rather snug for largish adults! This is not a major criticism at all, we really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again. So beautiful and peaceful. Thanks to Ivan for friendly welcome and advice re area.
Tricia
Had a fabulous week in Derwent Cottage, the views are amazing. The hot tub was a blessing after a long day out. We were so lucky with the weather too. Ivan was a great host, very welcoming & his recommendation of the Bay Horse Inn in Burythorpe was brilliant. We would definitely stay again.
We had a fabulous time at the cottage. Everything was as described and thought out. Beautiful setting with amazing views. Would return in a heartbeat
Steven
Very clean and tidy. , Ivan very helpful . Dereent Cottage although remote is an ideal location for visiting lots of places eg York, Pickering , Castle Howard. Good value for money. The hot tub was fantastic big and hot
Been to visit family in these lodges so thought this Christmas we would book it ourselves for over Christmas and we were not disappointed, lovely stay nice walks around the area and very friendly owners.
Barbara
Our yearly pre Christmas visit. We book and stay in Derwent cottage and sometimes in the adjoining Primrose cottage. Both cottages offer similar facilities with comfort and cleanliness being a priority. This time we stayed for 7 nights in Derwent cottage which was extremely warm and cosy especially as there were frosty days. Ivan and Heather are great hosts always on hand if needed but not intrusive. Lots to do and see in the area. Malton Chrismas market is a must as is York Market. Also, a trip to Betty's Tearoom in York highly recommended ! A very enjoyable week. Thanks Ivan and Heather.
Amanda
Amazing cottage, was so tranquil and relaxing. It is very clean and comfortable, like a home from home. Myself and my husband enjoyed a relaxing retreat here and I would certainly recommend.
Hannah
This was our second visit to Derwent cottage and certainly not our last. A beautiful cottage with all the North Yorkshire charm you could imagine with a stunning view of the landscape. Its so quiet and peaceful, but within easy reach of some excellent days out and only 25 mins to the coast. We visited with our 2 year old and after busy days out at the beach or petting farm, we could relax in the hot tub or the welcoming space in the cottage. Ivan is an excellent host and always within easy reach if you need anything. There is so much care and attention in the accommodation from the tasteful decoration and cleanliness to all the facilities from tea coffee to condiments and kitchen roll. I would recommend to this cottage to couples, families and absolutely everyone else.
Derwent cottage was above our expectations a truly beautiful cottage, clean and comfortable with exceptional views. The hot tub was amazing and well maintained with daily water checks. Ivan was a wonderful host, friendly and knowledgeable. We had an amazing break and will be back.
Stephen
The cottage was IMMACULATE, and the view FABULOUS. The friendly owner was on hand with local knowledge. A lovely place to have a holiday!
We had the most amazing stay! We would recommend Derwent cottage to anyone. Ivan was a pleasure. Lovely amenities even down to salt and kitchen roll supplied!!
Valerie
We had a great week at Derwent Cottage. The cottage was very well presented, extremely clean and comfortable. Well situated for getting out and about. Would definitely recommend this property.
Jennie
A lovely property in a beautiful setting. This was an excellent base for sightseeing, but also for just relaxing.
Valerie
Perfect holiday would recommend to anyone brilliant location loved it
Weve spent a lovely week in this warm, cosy cottage. .a real home from home! The view from the decking is stunning and mmm I loved the hot tub. We needed a quite time and got one. Well certainly visit again. Thank you for making our stay special.
Cottage was spotless and comfortable. Enjoyed the hot tub and the views. Quiet and peaceful location.
Shirley
Lovely and clean
Andrew
Really nice cottage in lovely location with fabulous views. Clean and comfortable, plenty of space and the hot tub is a great extra. Not far from Malton, Yorkshire's food capital, but the local pubs are brilliant. Lovely countryside and great area for walking and cycling,
Will definiitely return again. very nice, warm cosy cottage, superb peaceful location, superb countyside views. good fast free wifi. easy access to good walks. nice pub in walking distance as long as you return before dark !!
Debbie
Absolutely fab property, so cosy, owners very accommodating. It was just what we needed. Hot tub was lovely, we were in it every day. Stunning views from the property, really enjoyed our stay, we shall return
This cottage is ideal for a break in this part of the country. A beautiful rural location but close enough to neighbouring towns and York that there is plenty to see and do. The cottage itself is a perfect, cosy base with great views and the added treat of the hot tub. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend.
Barbara
Having stayed in Derwent Cottage and the ajoining Primrose Cottage many times over the years, we have never been dissapointed. This time we booked Derwent Cottage which was very cosy and invitingly warm. The perfect base to come home to after a day of spending money at York Christmas Market ! Ivan and Heather are great hosts, always on hand to sort out any problems, however, they are not intrusive, which is a good balance. Moreover, Ivan and Heather ensured the cottage was Covid clean, even fogging it prior to our arrival. We felt very safe, which is essential at this time. Well done ! Greatly appreciated.
This was our third stay in the last 6 years and this places has remained outstanding.
Kieran
Absolutely stunning and beautiful place to get away from reality the cottage is great the hot tub Is a great place to relax the view from the decking balcony is stunning and the owner is really friendly and helpful I would love to stay there again and would recommend anyone to stay.
Matthew
Pictures dont do the property justice it is really big. Host was very friendly and informative but also left us alone which i appreciated! Only thing i marked down slightly was comfort because the beds were abit firm but that is a personal preference and doesnt detract from the property whatsoever i would stay here again 100. Would highly recommend. Deposit was returned next day also
Annette
We could not fault Derwent Cottage. It was absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and in a peaceful location. The cottage itself is decorated to a high standard and there is everything you could need supplied. The heating and the water were superb and always in good supply. Ivan was very friendly and welcoming we had no issues but I would imagine he would sort them super quick! We would recommend Derwent Cottage to people and we will be back to visit again.
The cottage is fantastic, the hot tub, the log burner, well equipped kitchen, the bathroom isn't pictured but it is lovely with a bath and plenty of shelf space. Location wise the views are stunning. There is another cottage next door but Derwent isn't overlooked at all, you only see the neighbours walking past to their cottage or in the car park. It's about 5 miles from Malton walking just along the road, we did it once but I would recommend just calling a taxi between 10 an 15. Beautiful walks nearby and Malton has amazing bars and restaurants. Have already recommended the place to others and would consider going back!
A very nice quiet place to stay really enjoyed it. The pub at westow and kirkham provided us with nice meals but had to drive to them to far for me to walk. It would be nice to stay again.
Hannah
The cottage and the hosts were absolutely perfect. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and special, and the facilities were first class. The hot tub was just what was needed after a long day exploring the local features, and there are plenty of things to do which are detailed in the information booklet. Cant thank Ivan and heather enough and already planning a return
A lovely comfortable and cosy cottage with a great hot tub and fantastic views. Would definitely recommend. Plenty of places to visit in the area.
Andrew
Great directions to find this 'remote' location. Cottage was all we expected but unfortunately the COVID restrictions removed the 'soul' from the cottage as the soft furnishing had to be removed, not the fault of Ivan. It wold have been nice to know that the TV transmitter was not functioning but we did not go there to watch TV. Once sorted out the WiFi allowed us to connect a Firestick to watch something when required. That said, the beds were very comfortable, the furnishings of high quality, the kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom was fine with all the hot water you needed with a good shower. The location has views to die for and the tranquillity was just what we wanted. Sitting in the hot tub looking at the view is priceless. Would prefer to not have a 10pm restriction on hot tub use as that is when we want to get in not get out and having some larger plastic glasses for drinks in the hot tub would have been appreciated so we didn't have to get out so often for refills. Would we book again? Definitely
Lovely cottage, clean and tidy, well kitted out with everything you need. Ideal location to explore the area.
This is a fabulous cottage with wonderful views to compliment the high standard of the cottage and its facilities. You can see Castle Howard in the distance across the Vale. The hot tub was a very welcome at the end of busy days. The owner was very welcoming and helpful thank you Ivan and Heather! A couple of local pubs are worth a mention for good food and service the Blacksmiths Arms at Westow and the Stone Trough near Kirkham Abbey. This is the perfect base to sightsee around this part of Yorkshire. The York Park & Ride is not far away. The are plenty of walks to do in the area as well. All in all, an excellent holiday!
Lovely cottage with everything provided for in the kitchen. However the mattress was well worn and the garden area was overgrown with nettles which caught us on a couple of occasions going out the gate and steps up to the decking. Hot tub was well maintained by Ivan and we had some lovely chats. The cottage next door can see onto the decking or Derwent cottage and into the hot tub, which is a disadvantage.
Stephen
Great cottage, fantastic hot tub and really peaceful location. Friendly hosts with some nice touches. Thank you.
Fabulous place, the pictures of Derwent Cottage dont do it justice! The cottage is beautiful with stunning views. The hot tub was an added bonus! Great location with some lovely pubs and things to do near by, would definitely stay here again!
