About Eldon Country

A beautiful Victorian house tucked away into the village of Long Preston, a picturesque location with countryside and rolling hills. Tastefully designed for families or a group of friends, this spacious retreat is an exquisite choice for a memorable holiday experience, even featuring its very own hot tub.

A vestibule leads you inside, where you will be welcomed by a wonderful hallway, dividing off to a series of rooms. The kitchen is a comfortable place to unwind, housing a wall-mounted TV, and a cosy window seat where you can rest whilst waiting for those home-cooked meals to heat up.

You will look forward to settling down in the lounge afterwards, perfect for dining with the whole family, and snuggling up on the sumptuous sofas with the French doors open. The first set of stairs sweeps up to a family shower room, with three bedrooms situated on the second floor, two with en-suite and another with a dedicated bathroom on the landing.

As well as a lovely view over the garden towards the Dales, all rooms are glamorously presented, with a true feeling of luxury and ample storage space. Leaving you spoilt for choice once more, the third floor is equally as elegant, with two further bedrooms; the first is elevated by open eaves, velux windows, and a chandelier, whilst the second comes as a twin formation with a zip/link option.

The exterior represents the cottages charm wholeheartedly; home to a large patio area with furniture and a lawned garden for an idyllic finish. To the North, the landscape rises to the fells, moors and valleys of the Dales and to the South are the wetlands of the Ribble Valley which, in turn, sweep upward to the wilderness of Bowland.

Eldon Country Reviews

Daniel
8 of us had a fantastic break at Eldon Country House from 912 December. Having stayed the previous year we had no problem booking it again this year. The house is very spacious and easily accommodated 10 of us last year and 8 this year. Our disappointment at there being no Christmas decorations up was immediately addressed by the owners who came round and put up a tree and decorations which was really appreciated. The owners are very friendly and very helpful. The cottage is in easy reach to Skipton and Settle both of which we visited. We would recommend this property to anybody.
Monica
A lovely property in an ideal location for visiting Settle, Ingleton, Mallam and Skipton. We really appreciated the fact that all rooms had the use of their own bathrooms. There was plenty of space so we didn't feel cramped. We made good use of the hot tub which relieved all the aches and pains caused by our long walks.
No toilet paper in several bathrooms on arrival no actual toilet holders either?
Joanne
We had a great week at Eldon house. It was perfect for our stay. The hot tub was fabulous. The house catered for all our needs and it is in a great location to see the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. So many places to visit within a 30 minute drive. To top it all off we had exceptional weather. A fabulous week had by all.

A beautiful property in a nice location. But unfortunately that is all that was positive about the experience. The listing was inaccurate, the property is semi detached which is not mentioned on the listing and neighbours came knocking on the doors and complained of noise. When mentioned to the owner we were told that this happens often and we shouldn't bother about it. The property was not clean, light switches were broken and we had to use the bed side lamp in our room. The water pressure was very poor with barely any water coming out from some taps in the top floors, the wifi did not work for most part of our stay and there were random items left about upon which a child tripped and hurt himself. The owner visited the premises the day before we were meant to leave without prior notice, and began cleaning the hot tub while we were there. The owners were also back again at the crack of dawn of the morning we were supposed to leave i.e hours before we were required to leave with linen etc. After vacating the property the owner was silent about the house keeping deposit. When we enquired about the deposit more than 5 days later the owner sent a list of issues including drain blockages which cannot be caused over a four night stay pictures of rubbish we had not left behind, and also included charges for the cleaner's fee. We have been to many places up and down the country before but never been through anything like this. Hence, unfortunately we cannot recommend this place to anyone that needs 'a holiday'. Please read reviews of this place on other sites like TripAdvisor too before booking unfortunately we only saw these later. Despite all of this if you do book, please make sure you take pictures of everything as soon as you step in to the property or you may be accused of things you did not do. Thank you.
Spent a weekend at this fabulous property with friends. Stunning property with beautiful grounds. All bedrooms were spacious with ensuites bar one with its own bathroom essential for a group of ladies! Beautiful decore throughout and plenty of room for a party of 10 well stocked with crockery, glasses etc. Huge hottub and patio area great for the first day with sun. Second day rained, however pub 5 minute short walk serving excellent cuisine. Would definitely recommend this superb home for a group who enjoy a bit of class!
This is a really lovely property in a stunning area of the country. The kitchen was well appointed and all bathrooms and bedrooms were spotless . We had fun in the evenings playing cards around the dining table which fit the 10 of us round it comfortably. Our children and grandchildren loved the hot tub while we sat on the patio with an Aperol . A very pleasant week. The Black Horse Hellifield is a nice pub and its next door to the chippy . The Maypole pub is in walking distance from Eldon Hose and has a decent menu. The gardens at Eldon House are brilliant for a game of football or tennis .
Loved this property. Great location. The owner was on hand immediately with any of our queries. Everything we needed was there.

We went for a little break as a group of friends and loved the experience. The house was very clean when we arrived and we were very impressed with how lovely it was. Hot tub was up and running beautifully and the beds were extremely comfortable. We were a group of 6 so used all the bedrooms and bathrooms so we do wish there was a couple more loo roll but other than that we enjoyed every single minute. I know for a fact we'll be looking to stay here again in the future. Easy to find. Great places to visit close by and oh so quiet. So peaceful!

We really liked the house but there were a few minor things that really need attention. No towel rails in some of the bathrooms so drying towels is difficult. Drainage from the washbasin in at least one of the bathrooms painfully slow. Instructions could do with improving nothing about the heating system that we could see. But there is a huge amount of space, the garden and views are great and parking arrangements are excellent. So overall a nice stay.
Booked for 4 separate friendscouples for a weeks walking. This is a former hotel with the accommodation taking up the majority of the space and two further parts which are separate but adjoining. Hit the requirement for good sized individual ensuite rooms and plenty of living space. The jacuzzi was a bonus. Some small niggles which we have discussed with the owner and hopefully will be put right, but this didnt detract from our stay. Parkinh available within the grounds for at least 4 cars. Would stop again if we comeback to revisiting the area
Sharon
A much needed girly weekend away. Property was lovely, in a nice setting, not too far to the station to hop on the train to either Settle or Skipton. Cheryle the owner was really lovely and extremely helpful with any questions we had about the property. We will definitely be back again.

Eldon Country was recommended highly by a friend who has previously stayed there with her family. The house was spacious, comfortable and an enjoyable place to stay in. Booking was easy & the bond was returned quickly. Host was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again!

A very attractive property, well suited to our party, no significant issues. Perhaps some elements would benefit from a minor refurbishment . Thanks for a most enjoyable stay
Amazing house, we had the best stay. Well stocked and equipped, comfy and homely and in beautiful surroundings. I can't rate this place enough. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend.
Lovely property, well appointed and lots of space. Best ever view from the hot tub. Friendly and helpful owners.

We really enjoyed our visit to Long Preston and our stay at the Eldon Country cottage. The cottage was clean, warm, comfortable and fully equipped. The hot tub was great. Long Preston is a nice little village with two good pubs and in a great location for exploring the Dales and walking options. All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay!
Just returned from a lovely long weekend at Eldon Country and would highly recommend to anyone looking for picturesque and spacious base to explore the beautiful location that surrounds! We stayed three nights as a party of 10 for a friends big birthday. The property itself is very spacious and perfectly laid out to accommodate such a size group without it ever feeling over crowded. The bedrooms are beautifully presented and generously sized, each with good sized bathroom either en suite or next to the room. We did have some issues with low water pressure during our stay meaning a cold wash for those showers running off the mains however the two showers on the top floor were electric and worked a treat! There are also several rooms with baths as an alternative. Its a big house in the country and Im aware pressure can fluctuate so certainly not a huge issue for me but something to be aware of. The hot tub was bubbling away at a toasty 40c on our arrival and it was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day exploring! Booking was easy and no issues with bond return once the property was checked. The host was very responsive right from early booking enquiries through to us arriving back home. We definitely got the wow factor on arrival to Eldon Country, and whilst there are a few areas with signs of general wear and use, there was nothing significant enough to detract from the absolute beauty of the place! One of our guests is already planning her next stay and I genuinely hope to get an invite!!

This is an amazing property. We stayed as a family of 10 6 adults and 4 children from Friday to Monday this week and had a brilliant time. The house ticks lots of boxes. To begin with there is a large drive with plenty of parking and a big garden, complete with hot tub. Inside the house is spacious, with 5 large bedrooms and plenty of hanging and storage space for clothes. Three of the rooms have ensuites and there are nicely decorated and roomy bathrooms, with a large bath on both floors, which is great when you have young children with you. The hallway, staircases and landings are wide and sweeping with quirky design features and wall decorations, which add an element of fun. The living roomdining room and kitchen are well appointed with plenty of space to all eat, cook and relax together without being so huge that they dont feel homely. The kitchen is well equipped with a big modern range cooker, large fridge, microwave and slow cooker. The owner was in contact with me throughout and my housekeeping bond was returned promptly. Would highly recommend.

Spent the New year in this beautiful house. Really enjoyed every minute.
I have an ongoing complaint but yet I keep getting asked to give feedback. Sadly our trip was not as expected. When we first arrived it looks beautiful and it is, mainly. However several of the radiators were broken and unsafe for children I took photographic evidence and the owner recons I pulled the radiators apart for the photo!!. There was also broken window openers. We are taking this further as these are real health and safety issues. We were upset that on the photos it shows a log burner but yet you're unable to use it. They recon that because they don't mention it in the description that's ok but to me, that's clear false advertising and we are taking that further. The main issue however was the cleaner ... so you are asked to have all beds stripped and all towels downstairs by 9.45 firstly this is wrong as check out is 10 so you shouldn't be asked to do anything before 10. However on day of departure cleaners arrived at 9.23 and forced their way in. Said they always arrive this time and will stand by the washing machine. We had to then stop them from going upstairs at 9.30 as we still had children getting changed. The owner messaged to say oops sorry they got a train if that's the case they should still be instructed to wait outside the property till 10 if it is still occupied. We had to chase for the bond returning she said she had been busy out shopping and not had chance which we felt was very unprofessional. We complained to Sykes and they are investigating. We did not report the issues during the stay as we read several reviews on trip advisor saying she does anything to not return bond. And her response to the radiators confirmed my reservations I believe that if we had reported it she would have said we had done it and therefore not return bond! Such a shame as it has sooo much potential and is in a beautiful location.

We had a fantastic break at the Eldon Country. We were a party of 10 having an early Christmas break. The accommodation was superb all the bedrooms were a good size, the lounge dining room was large enough to accommodate us all without feeling cramped. The hot tub was used each day by a few of the group and they found it excellent. Unfortunately during our stay we had a few issues with the water supplies however, I must add that this was not the fault of the property it was down to the Water authority carrying out work in the area. It in no way detracted from us having a good time. The owners had decorated the lounge with Christmas decorations which was nice and helped with the festive atmosphere this could have been enhanced with some lights on the Christmas tree which were sadly lacking. The kitchen was large enough to facilitate the preparation of food for 10 of us quite comfortably, the only criticism being the fridge freezer didnt quite hold enough food for us all maybe a little freezer somewhere might assist. Overall the communication with the owners was excellent, there were plenty of instructions and guidance to help people settle into the house, we would definitely use the Eldon again and can highly recommend it. We made trips to both Settle and Skipton which are both great places to visit.
This was a gem of a property. We were celebrating my birthday with 4 other couples and it was absolutely perfect. Warm, comfortable, spacious, well equipped and the hot tube was a wonderful bonus! We all felt as if we had truly relaxed and partied in style! Taking some precious time out together.
Lovely, spacious and comfortable house. Well equipped. Comfortable beds and loved the fact that bedrooms are ensuite. Countryside views and good pub with food a five minute walk away. We all enjoyed our stay. Our group was a mix of ages from 2 years to 88. Our only complaint would be a lack of toilet rolls!! We needed to provide a few of our own. It was our first holiday together and would definitely stay here again.
Our stay was great! We did get a little lost trying to find it only to realise that it was signposted as Eldon Country Hotel. The place was perfect for a large gathering of friends with toddlers from Scotland, London and Bristol. The surrounding area was a delight to explore, including the lovely cheese and wine shop just a few miles away! The host was very responsive and assisted us with anything we needed during our stay.
Beautiful holiday home in a stunning location! The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a huge bonus! Lots of lovely places nearby to explore, we just wished we had more time! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Francesca
We recently stayed here and it was exactly as the pictures showed. The house was very clean and well maintained. There was 10 of us from kids to adults and all of us had a great time. We would definitely go back and looking for a date for our next stay soon.
Muhammed
We been going on cottage holidays for 20 years now and this was in our top 3 worse ones. I call it catfish cottage nothing like the pictures I have videos to show how bad it was. It was dirty and not maintained at all. On the last day check out was 10am but cleaners came in at 9.15 so wasnt happy about that either. Shocking stay
Alistair
We loved the house it was everything that was promised and in a good location to explore the surrounding countryside. 10 off us fitted comfortably in the house and the hot tub was a welcomed way to relax after the walks we did.
Patricia
Fabulous property and great location. I would definitely stay at the property again.
What a Palatial house Eldon Country is Set in a beautiful location with clean towels, linen and comfortable beds, this was like selfcatering at the Ritz! The parking is very spacious plenty for our 3 cars, with ample room to turn around too and the hot tub is a delight, being regularly maintained during our stay we were able to enjoy this almost every day. The plastic glasses added to our enjoyment when sipping sparkling drinks in the tub after a day of exploring this beautiful part of England even Grandad managed a soak. In the kitchen there is a good size oven and fridgefreezer which happily catered for our family of 7 3 generations. We would recommend the Maypole pub in the village who provided a lovely birthday dinner midweek. Upon leaving we met the cleaners who were so friendly and helped to make our holiday a happy and memorable one. The owner was quick to answer questions before, during and after our stay and the bond was repaid promptly thank you.
Jonathan
Lovely stay. Everything as advertised. Would recommend.
Enjoyable stay ,pleasent garden and view . Comfortable and spacious property.
Eldon Country is a beautiful and unique place to stay. If you picture yourself in a stately home this is for you. Lovely hall, drawing room and dining areas complete with spectacular chandeliers. The five beautifully decorated and comfortable bedrooms have their own private bathrooms. The hot tub is large and there are nice views from the terrace on which it sits. There is a spacious garden for the children to play in. Long Preston is a friendly village with a small shop and post office and a newly refurbished pub The Maypole. There are nice walks directly from the house. Settle, Skipton, Malham and Grassington are all nearby as is the Courtyard Dairy for great cheese and wine. The owners were very helpful when we needed them to answer queries. We were at the house to celebrate a family birthday. Our family members ranged from between five and seventy years old and everyone was very happy.
Richard
Exactly as described, with lovely countryside around. An enjoyable, relaxing few days.
Jackie
The property is lovely. Plenty of parking and space for our family get together. All the rooms are a decent size and have tv's. Hot tub was a bonus. We had a few issues during our stay but the owner was very response and they were resolved quickly. Location is great for walking and its just a short walk to the train station. Very convenient for a trip to Carlise. Holiday bond repaid promptly.
Katherine
Amazing accommodation for a surprise get together with friends. The facilities are amazing and we loved the hot tub. The house owner was so helpful.
Pritpal
Very nice property with spacious rooms. Jacuzzi was an added bonus especially in the winter.
Steven

Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ

Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Fountains Abbey - HG4 3DY

This is an outstanding world heritage site located close to Ripon in the North Yorkshire area. Nature lovers will be in their element with an abundance of wide open spaces to explore and there are special guided tours for families.  Some of the highlights may include seeing wild deer and bats during your visit.  The grounds are fantastic to wander round but there is also an Elizabethan Mansion, Victorian Church, Georgian Water Garden and the finest example of Cistercian Abbey ruins in the country - Well worth a visit!
