1 The Old Smithy Reviews

My family and I enjoyed a week at the property. We chose it because of its location and parking as we had two cars. We got to like the hot tub especially on a cold day in February! David & Lee, the owners, were friendly, helpful and on hand immediately when I contacted them about a small issue. The property is very well equipped.

A very good cottage in excellent condition. The owner was very nice when we meet him whilst out walking. All the things you could require in the cottage were there and would definitely recommend this property.

Beautiful house, so comfortable and the hot tub is amazing. House is very close to the beach and has a lovely stream running through a woodland walk. Would definitely go again

We loved the spacious property the kitchen was the best for equipment that we have stayed in. Both bedrooms are a good size with large comfy beds. The hot tub was nice and private. It gets ten out of ten for me.
Very much a home from home, great attention to detail. Friendly and extremely helpful owner. A very comfortable and enjoyable stay!
David the owner is superb, friendly, easy to contact and is everything you would want in a host. We had the most amazing week at Smithy Cottage, not wanting to return home. The cottage is immaculate with the most fantastic decoration. A very spacious place, more than enough room for us as a couple with 4 dogs. A really well stocked kitchen, huge American fridge freezer, cooking facilities are exceptional. The hot tub is absolutely perfect. Close walking distance to all amenities. A very friendly village with beautiful walks by the stream and a simply beautiful beach. Our dogs had the time of their lives. We are looking at dates for 2024 to return and have recommended to friends and family. Thank you to David and Sykes cottages
We stayed here for week in January we had the best time ever. The host was just on end the phone when ever we needed anything. The house was fully stocked with washing up liquid, toilet roll ect which was a nice surprise. Including little coffee pods. The hot tube was an incredible addition to the cottage. The rooms are huge. Even better we got to bring all 4 dogs with us. The Village is lovely. Beach 10min walk and costal walks not far either. Around 40min drive to snowdonia but totally worth it. Also just 2min round corner is little milkshake farm shop famous instagrams llefrithnantdiary. Which has 6 different flavours a day.
We had a wonderful week at 1, The Old Smithy with our daughter, son in law and their 6 month old baby. We found the house clean, well equipped with everything we needed, warm and comfortable. We loved the quirky decor especially everything shiny! The hot tub was fantastic a good temperature and just what was needed after a day of walking. The host was friendly and responded quickly to messages. The location was ideal for travelling to visit different parts of Anglesey and it was only a few minutes walk to the local harbour and beaches. The local shop was well stocked and open until 10pm, which was very convenient. The local pub, The Stag, a few minutes walk away was very welcoming as was the Harbour Hotel.

This is the most amazing place to stay. Fantastically furnished and wanted for nothing. A little convenience store in the bay or a 20 min drive to a Tesco or Morrisons. Large American fridge means you can do a full shop that will fit in there. Ice dispenser was a big hit for the old gin's. Never far away from walks or birdwatching, Cemlyn bay is a definite for this with golden plover, snipe, lapwing to name a few and if you're lucky otters can be spotted, a fantastic hot tub ready waiting for you after a day exploring. One small issue we had the friendly owners were quick on hand to rectify it that very same night. Superb. Will most likely rebook next year I was that impressed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 1 The Old Smithy. The location was ideal, just on the edge of the village centre and a short stroll from the beach. The hot tub was excellent, really well maintained and a perfect way to relax after a run. The house is a great size with two double bedrooms, a large kitchen and plenty of room. Any queries were also quickly answered by the very friendly landlords. Overall, a brilliant New Year's trip to a beautiful location.
Norman
Fabulous place, Booked it for Christmas, spotlessly clean on arrival owner even went to the trouble of putting up an Xmas tree and decorations for us. All that plus Champagne in the hot tub! I cannot praise it enough. We had a wonderful Christmas in a beautiful property. Hope to return in the future.
Beautiful place much bigger than pics and very nicely decorated. Stocked with general cleaning products and host are amazingly friendly and helpful . Would most definitely recommend this property .ps the hot tub was so lovely and warm too. We travelled each day to different coastlines and all had a amazing time
Joanne
Lovely little village, 2 pubs to eat n drink, fish n chip shop, couple of cafes and a kiosk nr the beach that does coffees etc great pizzas too! ! Beach was great for our four legged friends!! The house fantastic, great location, everything you could possibly need and the Hot tub was the icing on the cake!!
Elizabeth
This is an absolutely lovely home. Very spacious, seems a lot bigger than the photos. I liked the bright quirky decor, right down to the glittery French bulldogs! It was spotlessly clean but a practical comfortable home, I wasn't scared of the dogs breaking anything and we could relax. The hot tub in the garden was the finishing touch, and lovely to relax in after long walks on the beaches and cliff paths. Cemaes is a beautiful place with a big sweeping sandy bay where the dogs can run there is a restriction for part of the beach but they are allowed on the nicest bit! There are a couple of cafes and pubs and a convenience store. There is also a nice river walk five minutes from the house which is great for dogs to have some off lead time first thing in the morning. A perfect holiday. My only criticism is that the beds are getting a bit worn out.
Stopped here for a week as a family of 3, daughter aged 10 and we brought her friend also 10. As with previous reviews on Sykes website the electrics are clearly not tested as should be. Sockets not working, loose switches in the conservatory and a dangerous extension lead the owner uses to plug in the bedside lamps. MY DAUGHTER was electrocuted while plugging in this extension lead as the back had fallen off the plug which she didn't realise. All the house sockets tripped ! My daughter received a painful shock and numbness through her body and had since been suffering from headaches. The owners have dismissed our complaint so we are consulting with our lawyers.
Wow! What an absolute beautiful property this was. The owners have done amazing. We stayed in ceamis bay in Aug 2022, 2nd time running now. The property had everything you needed and was made to feel like home. Would highly recommend a stay here
This is a beautiful property, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. About 10 minutes walk away from the amenities of the village and beach. The cottage is very close to a busy road but that was the only downside. We would certainly return to the cottage, and we were blessed with wonderful weather. The hot tub was perfect.
The old smithy had everything we could have possibly wanted with a stunning decor, it was spotlessly clean with a very well equipped kitchen all this provided a great base for us to explore Anglesey. Lee and Dave were great hosts who who were always on hand if needed. Keep up the good work!

A very spacious holiday home situated in a beautiful part of Anglesey As a family of four we found the property very spacious with a well equipped modern kitchen. The outside decked area was a real little sun trap with a good sized hot tub which we all enjoyed. However on the first evening we found that the three bulb light fitting in the bedroom wasn't working. Two bulbs had previously been removed and never replaced leaving one dud bulb! We contacted the owner about this but during our stay the problem was never resolved. As the week progressed we encountered further electrical problems... plug sockets that didn't work and one very loose socket in the dining room. One lamp in the lounge worked intermittently. One of the beds has a broken wooden slat which has clearly been like this for some time along with the problematic creaky upstairs flooring . In general this could be a perfect holiday home if more attention was paid to the maintenance of the property and thorough checks carried out prior to guest arrival.
We had such a lovely relaxing week here, obviously the hot tub helped! ! Such a lovely area of Anglesey especially as we were blessed with good weather. The cottage was very spacious and had most things we needed for a pleasant stay. Netflix was a bit hit and miss at times as the WiFi seemed to be quite slow and an outside bin would be useful to stop the crows and seagulls feasting out of the bin bags!! The outside area is a lovely sun trap and the conservatory is a lovely room to chill out in.
Had a lovely relaxing stay here in a very pleasant village. Very clean, spacious, modern and comfortable, very well equipped, comfy beds, good parking, and a really good sized hot tub ready and waiting, also the nicest, unscratched frying pans we have ever encountered, so nothing at all to complain about. A couple of very minor points which were not worth mentioning during our stay. The upstairs shower head may need replacing soon as there are a few fine jets of water spurting out above the ring of holes the up and down shower holder bars were a little difficult to move, and there is a small metal cover strip loose under the temperature gauge. As others have mentioned, there are a couple of squeaky floor boards upstairs which did not bother us, but maybe the people immediately next door below heard them. From one bedroom we could faintly hear people talking occasionally in the adjoining rooms below, but again this was not a problem for us. A large refuse bin outside plus the option for recycling would be advisable as there is only a good sized pedal bin in the kitchen which was fine for us for a short stay, but would necessitate ringing the owner to collect the rubbish for any longer stay. Overall, this was a lovely property for 4 people and we would certainly return. Thank you to the owner.
Tracey
The holiday Cottage was amazing very clean, comfortable, huge hot tub and equipped with everything you could ever need, it is set in a beautiful area close to all amenities, we will definitely return.

Wow what a place, fantastic cottage with everything you need at your fingertips. Stayed a week for New Year and loved it, lovely walks with the dogs to the beach nearby, then soaking in the fabulous hot tub! Great experience with the owners who were on hand to help with any issues. Shops nearby and pubs available to visit, nice restaurant too that does a lovely coffee and cake in the afternoon great after a chilly beach walk. Cemaes Bay is beautiful if you havent been go there and stay here!
charlotte
Lovely property and the hot tub is huge! Really clean and tidy. Small beach nearby with plenty others a 20 minute drive away.
Amanda
What can I say about this cottage? It is a lovely place to stay, immaculately clean, well presented, very spacious. The kitchen had every piece of equipment you might need. Comfortable, furnished to a very high standard, and dog friendly. Five minutes walk from the local village, and the beautiful Cemaes Bay. Hosts were friendly and helpful, and we were charmed to find the cottage had been decorated for Christmas, such a lovely touch. The garden was secure for the dogs to mooch around without having to constantly keep an eye on, and the hot tub was so nice to relax in after a day out & about exploring all that Anglesey has to offer. Would definitely stay again!
Beautiful holiday let. Very spacious, secure garden for the dogs. Set in a lovely location. Close to village, pubs, shop and beach.
Georgina
Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a little village with pubs and a shop. Very quiet area but plenty to do within an hour or twos drive! We will definitely be back!
Great cottage owner is very helpful would stay here again. lovely area .great hot tub .
Fabulous house in Cameas Bay and the hot tub was fantastic for relaxing in after a full day of being out and about with the dogs. The facilities were excellent with a very handy downstairs bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. The owner was very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again.
The cottage was a great place to stay in I would recommed it to anyone
