Oyster Cottage Reviews

Spent 2 nights here 5 of us lovely old quirky cottage with lots of character. Fantastic location close to shops, restaurants and bars. Bottle of Prosecco and hamper a lovely gesture. Loved the garden, so many areas to sit out. We had to park down one of the streets opposite. Beds were comfortable, So peaceful at night couldnt hear a sound. Shower was small, couldnt find dvd player, dishwasher tablet holder broken, clearer instructions on how to use hot tub ie turn it off and No wifi. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and we would definitely return to Oyster Cottage.

We had a lovely stay at Oyster Cottage. It was a quirky property, with loads of character. The kitchen was very well equipped and facilities excellent. The beds were very comfortable and the two main bedrooms and living area were lovely. The outdoor space was charming with lots of interesting nooks and crannies and various lovely seating areas for all weathers. The beautiful view made it a real treasure. It would be a good idea to replace the microwave as it definitely has seen better days. We would be happy to return to Oyster Cottage in the future. It was a cosy and comfortable home.
Mr John
The owner was lovely and resolved the dirty hot tub but didnt check it regularly. The bedding was stained the sofas and rug in living room were disgustingly dirty as was the rest of the cottage.we made the most of being out of the cottage as had granddaughter with us and didnt want to disappoint her however if she wasnt we would have left. Have been on many Sykes cottages but this one really needs a deep clean. Microwave is very rusty inside could be dangerous Beaumaris is beautiful

The house was ok, as described, the garden was the one that disappointed us. . was unkempt in some places and not suitable for disabled children or adults due to terrain that had different levels and verry narrow areas.. . We could not use the hot tub in the first day of arrival and although was announced as a possibility in the description, that was a facility unable to use but paid for it so shouldn't happen .. The view was nice on the deck, house was clean and had pretty much everything we needed for comfort.. nice experience overall, just the size of the garden made me give lesser stars for the review.. We also received a hamper for arrival , a nice welcome gift from the owner that was really nice and appreciated! Beautiful surroundings, only few minutes walk from the pier, my daughter didn't want to leave in the end..
A fantastic stay in a holiday cottage to our taste. The lack of WiFi was annoying especially when trying to speak to family.
We had a great holiday, the cottage is quaint and the garden beautiful. There was a lovely welcoming gift and the cottage is a short walk to the beach and shops which is very convenient. The only downside was the very small shower, WIFI very poor, and the third bedroom was probably a single not a double. We found the parking quite difficult as other tourists also parked outside the row of cottages. Aside from this, we still loved our stay though.
I tried calling Sykes office and house keeper on Saturday morning at 9am after electric failure at 3am Saturday. No response so therefore called owner who responded immediately and attended within the hour with an electrician thankfully. No internet connection during our weeks stay at property ...but it was advertised as internet was intermittent !
Joanne
Really loved our stay but sofas, hoover and bathroom needs urgent replacement
We were disappointed overall with the property. The only positive is the location being right in the middle of Beaumaris. I would suggest that the owner tries taking a shower, which is virtually impossible if youre not child size. There is way too manny nic nacs furniture around collecting dust. I presume that they are trying to present a cottage with an olde worlde feel, but as a rental you look around and wonder how it can get cleaned between clients.Although the garden is a great size with a lovely view its not really usable as it was overgrown. The main bedroom upstairs has no real way of shutting out the light, so be prepared for broken sleep. As I said altogether disappointing, in my opinion it needs a complete overhaul and essential facilities like the shower needs immediate attention. I wouldnt recommend it for a full house of 6 , there were only 3 of us and we struggled.
The location was great, a few minutes walk from Beaumaris main centre. The cottage is very old quirky, grade 2 listed, well furnished, maybe a little too much clutter. We met the owner Peter, who gave us a potted history of the cottage and area, there was also a bottle of Prosecco for us which we had on my birthday, 3 days into our holiday. For us, the garden was amazing, we used the top platform for evening drinks, yoga, anytime we were there chilling, we went 'up top', it had stunning views, good garden furniture, fairy lights, and a summer house when the wind got up. We did not use the hot tub. The beds were very comfortable. We may have missed the fact that there was no WiFi. Parking was ok, but we parked round the corner as the spaces by the cottage were often in use. The negatives the shower is very small, anyone bigger than average would have a problem. Cleaning was adequate, felt like the whole place needed a thorough deep clean. The upstairs bedrooms were comfortable, one very small, there was no loo upstairs so the little lights on the stairs were very useful at night. The downstairs bedroom was also good. The cottage was adequately clean in the bathroom, kitchen, bedrooms had new carpets, but needed to be cleaner overall, the kitchen pedal bin was broken, and there was no frying pan. The oven didn't work that well, we used matches to light the gas. Overall, we enjoyed our 7 night stay, the garden was great and we made good use of it.
Alison
Amazing cosy cottage Brilliant location and views from the rear of property. Gardens were was beautiful, with lots of hidden seating areas Great welcoming packWilp definitely return.Alison

I have already commented in the notes book on the hot tub scenario. A more efficient and user friendly hot tub would have made our stay, even more enjoyable

Beautiful home in a gorgeous seaside village. Spacious cottage, great getaway. A home from home. Thank you Tali and Usmaan
Loved it here and my dogs did too, great place and very comfortable, lovely to ... Loved it here and my dogs did too, great place and very comfortable, lovely to meet the owner too when he returned keys to me that I'd left behind, went above and beyond
Had a very cosy stay with friends over Christmas. Well equipped, generous welcome hamper and wines, plenty of firewood to get things going all made our arrival easy and comfortable. The wood burner can be a bit fiddly and the shower is tiny but we could forgive Oyster Cottage pretty much a thing and hope to return some day.
Lovely old quirky cottage great garden with hot tub and places to sit Log ... Lovely old quirky cottage great garden with hot tub and places to sit Log fire was a great addition along with the welcome basket This is an old cottage with only one bathroom and tiny shower room but plenty of hot water and fluffy towels
Beautiful property with everything you could possibly need for a great holiday. Thank you very much for the very generous welcome package which was appreciated after our long journey.
Deborah
After being somewhat sceptical from the reviews about what we were to step into, we were pleasantly surprised. A tardis of nooks and crannies showcasing the aged property at its best. It was clean, fresh and wonderfully presented. The welcome box was amazing and so thoughtful. The garden is lovely, rustic and very pretty, allowing different levels to enjoy the sunshine and a coffee, a dip in the hot tub or a read of a book under fairy lights protected by the rain in a lovely little hut, it catered for all moments and was secure for the children and the dog. Yes the shower was a squeeze but its manageable. We didnt have any issues with parking and the lack of wifi and intermittent signal was a well deserved break away from busy lives We enjoyed our stay very much and would absolutely return. Thank you.
Micelle
The cottage was initially lovely, until we started to explore. ...The garden was quite unkempt and the hot tub looked filthy, so we did not attempt to use it. The bbq didn't work and to be fair to the owner, he replaced it straight away and provided us with disposable bbq's in the meantime. The cooker didn't work, we had a call from cooker engineer to tell us how to get it working. The tumble dryer didn't close, so couldn't be used and the dishwasher tablet holder was broken. We didn't try the washing machine. The henry hoover was broken also. On the positive side, a lovely hamper was waiting for us with proseco, chocolates and wine. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was very central to beaumaris.
Andrew
I think staying here is about the beautiful character of the property, the history and the amazing town and views. Utterly perfect. If you dont like a little dust or creaky bits of wood then I dont think its for you. Its not a hotelspa experience its a real seaside cottage in one of the most beautiful places in the UK. The place was probably built before 1610 and I think many people lived happy lives in that cottage, and we absolutely loved it! I would agree with comments about the shower and WiFi on behalf of the rest of us though but dont let that put you off this amazing experience
Alison
This property is not accurately described and we definitely would not stay here again. Whilst we appreciate that the owner is attempting to preserve the period feel, it really needs lots of TLC and some money spent on it. I'm afraid none of our feedback is what the owner will want to hear, but we are attempting to be constructive and we expected much better for the 1400 per week price tag. There is NO wifi at all and very limited mobile reception. Our teenager was very unhappy as she was without contact for the week! Neither could she watch anything on TV as it was limited to very slow Freeview style channels. Get a broadband booster and install a proper Smart TV. The shower is really not fit for purpose it's actually a tiny, moldy cupboard and the showerhead squirts everywhere but where it is required none of us have long hair luckily but even so it took a good ten minutes to try and wash conditioner out. Make the shower room an extra toilet and put a shower over the bath or add a shower cubicle in the bathroom. The kitchen bin is broken and there are no bins in any of the bedrooms easily remedied and not expensive to resolve. The third bedroom is only fit for one person the door doesn't open fully as the bed is so close to it and there is nowhere to stand. The cottage as a whole feels cluttered and a bit dirty when we arrived there were cobwebs and dust everywhere and a pair of someone else's underpants in the downstairs bedroom drawer! One of our party got a huge pin through their slipper, just missing their foot. It needs a deep clean. There are still Christmas decorations on the dining table in July why?! The sofas are sagging and need replacing one has a huge hole in the back of it not just covering with a ridiculous amount of throws and cushions. The furniture at the top of the garden is only fit for the skip and the decking needs serious work the BBQ was dirty so we didn't use it and the hot tub water seems to leak out overnight. We did, however, love the obviously new hobbit house and cottage feel of the garden it just needs a tidy up. The cracked glass in the front door and dirty windows did not make for a good first impression and our parting impression was no better when removing the bedding as requested we were appalled by the state of the pillows and duvets new ones definitely required! Overall we feel this cottage needs serious improvement to justify the amount being charged. It could be stunning but sadly isn't.
We met with Peter the owner and liked him! We hope the following will be taken as it is intended ie constructive. The cottage is quirky but we like that however, there are lots of things that need attending to and attention to detail is clearly lacking! Firstly, the bedding is of a very poor quality and not commensurate with price paid for the cottage The light switches are all over the place and really difficult to locate There was never any internet during the week we were there and I think this should be highlighted as a possible issue The folder detailing information regarding the cottage bin days, laundry at the end of the holiday, how to access the internet just incase we were very unlucky!, was not clear and could do with updating Our main issue is the garden. It needs sorting out and tidying up The seating at the top is falling apart and the decking doesn't look safe The cushions for the outside seating were left out and therefore got wet as it rained. Finally the overflow outside the back door felt like a health hazard. Peter was erecting more decking prior to our arrival and I feel his time would be better spent looking at the issues mentioned.
Beaumaris is a beautiful place to visit and whilst the cottage was cosy, it didnt feel very cared for or considered. One bedroom was particularly small, definitely not possible to fit two people comfortably, making the listing as a place that sleeps 6 inaccurate. The kitchen facilities were lacking, or just not considered, huge pasta serving bowls but not many utensils for cooking. Found a pile of dvds but no DVD player, no WiFi, a CD player but most CD cases were empty and the hot tub was tired and dirty on the outside. We also had delivery of some glass bannisters for the owner of the property while we there, with no warning, which then had to stay in the living room. As well as piles of wood and building materials in the garden. There were also some loose stones in the garden, which my 75 year old mother tripped on and fell, cutting her finger, went to the first aid kit in the kitchen, no plasters. It wouldnt take a lot to make changes here that would really improve the stay as the location is just stunning, easy to get around and see so much of Angelsey and we had a wonderful time enjoying Beaumaris too. Just needs a bit more care to make this cottage welcoming.
William
Lovely cottage, fabulous welcome hamper. Hot tub was amazing especially at night. No WiFi helped the children to unwind and get away from social media. Board games and family fun at night. That you for a lovely stay. We will be back soon
It was a huge issue there was no WiFi at the property as you could not get any phone signal in the immediate area. This meant it was not possible to work or keep in touch with family and with no TV, DVD, CD as advertised etc, there was no music or entertainment at all. Certainly not family friendly. And the third bedroom cannot be described as a double when one person cannot even stand in the room with the door shut to get changeddressed our guest for that room decided not to stay. We paid 1,400 which we consider far too much for what is in reality a 2 bedroom cottage where you could not connect with the outside world, when it was not billed in this way. Lots to like with the lovely character of the cottage and central location, but lots to disappoint too when you are paying premium rates, compared to other options.
A beautiful, quaint and quirky cottage in a great location just a few minutes walk from the seafront. The two main bedrooms are very spacious and the open plan livingdiningkitchen area is huge. Overall the cottage is very well equipped and the large terraced garden is a delight. Slight downside is the tiny shower in a cupboard, the minuscule third bedroom and the need for a really thorough deep clean as others have mentioned previously. Overall we had a great stay in Oyster Cottage and the extensive welcome hamper was a really nice surprise the Tunnocks Caramel Wafers and Malteasers lasted seconds. Thank you Peter and Sykes Cottages for such an enjoyable holiday.
Nicola
The cottage was really well equipped with even tin foil and dishwasher tablets, the tumble dryer was broken and the dishwasher cupboard was filthy, the garden needs a good tidy and the cottage was very dusty, there was also a open drain outside our bedroom door, I fluffed the couch and the mess that was underneath the cushions was revolting, I also made my childs bed and I do not think the carpet at the wall side of the bed had ever been hoovered, overall a good stay as the cottage was brill just dirty, I have pictures of the drain and dishwasher cupboard if required, there was also tin foil still left on the bbq from who knows when and the grill part of the oven was disgusting also, just needs a really really good deep clean. The welcome basket was the best welcome basket I had ever had though.
From the moment we entered we were absolutely enchanted. The cottage is beautiful and quite magical, and yes, it's quirky, but also immaculate and very well laid out. The welcome basket was a great touch and much appreciated. The garden is absolutely amazing, and we were rather regretting that we'd booked for November, although the hot tub went down very well. It'll be wonderful in the summer. Beautiful views over the fields and mountains at the back and very well furnished and equipped. It's perfectly positioned for walking into town as well. All in all ideal. We had problems with the WiFi and the telly and the shower room needs a bit of an overhaul if that's possible, but otherwise would love to come back and thank you.
Stuart
A lovely cottage with loads of character and its own unique personality. We were greeted with a generous welcome pack and everything is there that you need. It could do with some refurbishment works however particularly the bathroomshower room and the outside decking areas and generally a deep clean there were cobwebs all over and the taps in the bathroom werent cleaned properly, neither behind the bed in the smallest bedroom or under the rug in the front room. The boiler vent pipe is also constantly leaking meaning that there is always water outside the back door even on a dry day. We had an enjoyable stay however for the money we paid I feel things could be improved.
Alexander
Really lovely cottage. Great garden with different seating areas to capture the sun throughout the day. The low ceilings were a slight problem for the taller ones in our group but this wouldnt prevent me from coming back. Super cottage in a great location
The cottage was in need of a deep clean, lots of dust and in need of some general TLC as was the garden. Both the king size beds had mental frames which were extremely noisy and creaked badly
Louise
Left side oven not working. Wi Fi down unless there isn't a broadband package. Outside decking and woodwork need some tlc. This is our second stay at Oyster Cottage and we are more than pleased otherwise. The cottage is charming and in a great location.
Pictures on site did not reflect the reality of the cottage they must have been taken years ago. Furniture is very tired. Bed covering had stains. Needs a deep clean. Needs to give a warning to anyone over 56 as areas of restricted head space.
Phoebe
Absolutely beautiful cottage in the perfect location. The positives outweighed the negatives, however it could do with new decking outside that was very wobbly underfoot and a bathroom revamp but apart from that it was the perfect well needed get away.
Alison
Cottage has great facilities in some respectsthe only place Ive stayed where for example I didnt have to go out and buy decent kitchen knives! The third bedroom is definitely not built for two adultsthe double bed is so far under the eaves that only a child could comfortably sleep on one side of it. Other than that its a very quaint old cottage full of period furniture. Not sure I would stay again because it was low and dark but thats definitely a personal preference.
A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.
This cottage was lovely myself and my 3 sisters had wonderful break. There was everything we needed for a short stay. We forgot to complete the owners comment book before we left. Only thing we would have liked was patio heater to enjoy the views from the garden. One of the bedrooms was small, but the beds were lovely and comfortable. One of my sisters slipped on the decking on the first day but it didnt spoil our stay. Would definitely return to this place.
A stunning property in a beautiful location . .. Beautiful inside and out ... The gardens are amazing and lead to fields at the back ... A welcome pack provided us with all we needed until our shopping arrived and there was prosecco too ... So thoughtful ... The location is superb .. just a few minutes from the main high street but still lovely and quiet .. thank you for a lovely stay x
