Talgais Reviews

We booked Talgais for a family get together over the 2023 New Year period 4 families. The house was perfect for what we needed, plenty of room, a well equipped kitchen we managed to cook a New Years Day dinner with ease! and within walking distance of Llangollen centre. The house was lovely and clean and as described.
Louisa
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Talgais cottage over Xmas. The cottage was exactly how described, and was warm and spacious. The generous hospitality was also a lovely touch. We were left chocolates, wine, a family boardgame, sweets and colouring pens! Upon arrival, the hosts had also put a Christmas tree up for us and put the heating on, which was fabulous. A wonderful stay had by all would definitely recommend and would definitely return!
Lovely comfortable house amazing view , nice walk to town . Everything was just lovely comfortable and clean, would definitely go there again , we had a lovely family get together . Any problems maintenance man was sent he was very helpful and friendly, cannot fault our stay at Talgais AMAZING thankyou x
We had a fantastic week at Talgais celebrating my brothers surprise 60th birthday. The house was extremely comfortable and a short walk from Llangollen centre. Its the first time we have ever planned this type of break with my siblings and some extended family members and we couldnt have chosen better. The people in Llangollen were lovely and the place itself very picturesque. We all agreed that we would return if the opportunity arises. Thanks to all concerned.

A lovely house, ideal for a beautiful holiday. Recommend
Beautiful home and outdoor area perfect for little breaks away! If i was to give advice, Id say maybe do a welcome package for guests for arrival and a little freshen up in some rooms! But overall lovely place to stay.

We had a fabulous time at Talgais for the May Day weekend. The house was plenty big enough with 6 bedrooms and enough bathrooms for our party of 11. We enjoyed celebrating my 70th Birthday and our upcoming 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary. Beautiful lounge area which we didnt use much as we couldnt resist the fabulous kitchendining area with the wonderful views of Dinas Brn. The beds mattresses duvets pillows were very comfy and good quality the towels were of good quality also very pleased. Kitchen wash up liquid, cleaning items, starter t bags sugar coffee biscuits liquid soaps in all bathrooms and toilet a nice touch. Great dishwasher, washer, dryer, microwave, toaster, oven and hob. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. 1525 minute depending on your ability walk into beautiful Llangollen. Nice pubrestaurants and shops. Shame we couldnt pre book the canal aqueduct trip so we may have to return to do this. The younger members in our party walked up to Dinas Brn they loved it! Fabulous views from up there. The older ones met them in Llangollen when they descended. We did have some issues On arrival found the front of houseporch a little shabby. The downstairs bathroom toilet was dirty on arrival. The clean for you tape was on the floor the lid was up and in the toilet bowl was soiled toilet paper brown I quickly took a photo which I can forward to you if requested and then flushed. Couldnt believe that we could only find 2 teaspoons!!! We searched to no avail. 2 glass Wine glasses only!!! Not good as we had occasions to celebrate so we used Gin glasses and Plastic ones yuk!!! Grill in cupboard dirty not usable. Some of the lights didnt work in the dining area. The Hive control was easy to raise the heating temperature but 1 radiator in dining area, 1 in master upstairs bedroom and the one in double bedroom upstairs did not work. The Decking area is in a very bad condition and needs a lot of attention. BBQ not nice dirty so we didnt use. The conservatory once we found the key was found to be quite dirty and old cobwebs on windows and broken toys were glad our grandchildren are older. No bathshower mats available we would have taken our own if we had known this the 3 elder members in our party including myself found the areas very slippy. The plumbingheating needs some attention as the upstairs radiators took sometime to heat up on arrival. The upstairs bathroom shower went hot to cold and only worked well if nothing else was in use in the house. The toilet in upstairs bathroom filled almost to the brim on first flush and so it was plunged with the toilet brush and was fine after that so must have been blocked. The master bedroom bathroom upstairs had a few issues Took an age to part fill the double jacuzzi bath which our grandchildren wanted to try but the jets were not very good and they soon got out and back into the Hot Tub. The Shower! This was not usable for us we could not adjust it was scalding hot or cold! Same with the hand held hose and without a mat very slippy with only a small flat area by the head rests to stand in. The double sinks? The left one took an age to let the water out and the right one was unusable to wash in as the plug would not stay down. We had to use the family bathroom Some of the windows upstairs the seals have broken down so wet and misty need replacing. Dining area was well used by us all with such a fabulous view of Dinas Brn but the chairs are very creaky and wonky and not very comfy needs better seating we had to use cushions from lounge for the backs of the chairs. The dishwasher and washer and dryer were great to use thank you. Even with all the little faults we would definitely return to Talgais and be most happy to book with Sykes Cottages again. It was fabulous for the young and the old. We had a great time and made some very precious memories for us all to treasure. Thank you.
Lovely house with amazing views, would highly recommend this house, sleeps 14 comfortably.
I booked this house to finish off my 30th birthday celebrations with my friends and family and we couldn't have asked for a better stay. The house has the perfect view from the kitchendining area of Dinas Bran and even though there are neighbours each side, it still feels very private. The location is perfect, with Llangollen centre only a 1015 minute walk away but far enough away to feel like your out of the town. We managed to squeeze 9 cars on the drive so theres more than enough room for parking. We had a problem with the upstairs toilet and someone was sent within less than 24 hours to resolve it. I would highly recommend and hopefully have a reason to book another stay here in the future.

With the exception of the front entrance , being rather sad and neglected and which gave a false impression of the cleanliness of the rest of the house , the patio sadly needing a clean ALL was as expected . The kitchen was very well equiped in both crockery and kitchen utensils .
The holiday home was fabulas exceeded our expectations the views were awesome, and we were near to all of the tourist attractions. The only negative was the hot tub, to pay an extra price for the cleaning of the hot tub, 50, most people have now got hot tubs and know how to treat them, leave a couple of Chlorine tablets. but overall awesome holiday and our people we support loved it
Property was fabulous, ideal for my sons birthday. Being able to bring the dog was an added bonus. Everything you could need was there. My only complaint was evening's were cold and we were unable to contact anyone as to getting some heat!! My parents were unable to stay as they are elderly and it was so cold, but I would recommend this property as its ideal.
Talgais is a lovely holiday cottage central located and the view from the patio was stunning. The walk to Llangollen village and the canal was doable even though we are all of a certain age and abilities. Comfortable beds, well equipped plenty of hot water. The only complaint would be there was not enough drinking glasses, if we all wanted wine it was a mis mash of glasses. Otherwise it was great value, and I would certainly be visiting again.
Talgais is beautiful the views are to die for, the beds we very comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped it is an amazing house for a group of friends and family to come together. We hope to return some time and will definitely recommend .
70th Birthday Celebration
Fantastic property with plenty of space. Spectacular views from the garden. Our 19 month old great granddaughter loved playing in the garden. Plenty of space for her to run around. The house is very well equipped. Great location, short walk into Llangollen. Would certainly recommend this house and would love to return one day. If you book this property you will not be disappointed.
Stairgates were provided for small children but no highchair and these can't be transported by people coming on holiday. Other than that it was perfect.
We had a fantastic weekend at the house. All lovely and clean and perfect for what we wanted
Danielle
Fab weekend, lovely place
Fantastic relaxing break with the extended family from three parts of the country in a nice part of Wales . A view from the kitchen hot tub that inspires you to walk to the castle and walk back via a few pubs starting by the river. Large enough house that all parties can get together in the kitchen or lounge but also zone out into the lounge garden for me time whether that be the kids or adults. Biking not far away at one planet , the swimming pool a short drive past the aqueduct but if staying local you can walk into the hills straight out of the front door and still end up in the town .
We stay here for our annual family stay. The place is great if you are big family plenty of room love the kitchen and lounge and the hot tub was a hit. But its tired the decking needs painting, garden a bit of mess and kitchen work surface needs replacing or revarnishing. Its also missing some kitchen equipment eg chopping boards!!! During our stay there was a problem with the drains which seemed to be a problem the stay before although we rang Skyes Cottage on Saturday night and the owner sent someone out Sunday it took over three hours to fix so I dont think it had been done the previous stay even though it had been mentioned. The only two other issues showers wont brilliant and paying for hot tub as an extra wasnt good idea.
Llinos
We had a really great time. The hot tub was amazing with a fantastic view. The showers arent the best, not very powerful and would either be scalding hot or freezing cold. The kitchen sink kept blocking and we tried to unblock with a plunger but it kept happening. Other than that the place was brilliant and I will definitely be booking it again.
My Family & I had an amazing Christmas. Such a beautiful house & surroundings. Hoping to save up for staying there next year.
We had a three day long weekend at Talgais Friday to Monday, 7 adults, 6 children plus dog. The house was an excellent size with plenty of space for all. We had only been there four hours when unfortunately there was a power cut which wasnt restored until the following late afternoon. It was cold of course but as it was 10 at night we all went to bed. Luckily the hob was gas and we were able to make hot drinks. There were unfortunately no candles or torches on the property, we had to use our mobile phone torches, which the children turned into a game. The following morning although very cold we got on with it and went out walking. No phone signals all day, when eventually phone could be used I spoke with Sykes Cottages who were very helpful and contacted the owner for me, whilst not available to bring torches or candles, I have made the suggestion in the unlikely event this happened again, it would be helpful to store some at the property. Power was eventually restored and the rest of the weekend was spent enjoying our break especially the hot tub which was glorious and the surrounding area is beautiful. The views are lovely from the back of the house. My only criticism of the house is there is no lighting at the front of the property, the porch appears to have lights but they werent working, it was very dark unloading cars when we arrived. Also there are various radiators which do not heat up, I assume they need air releasing form them and the outside paintwork needs refreshing. I feel the summer house could be utilised on the booking site it shows childrens games and computer in there, however it was just an empty room and the children were disappointed the trampoline has been removed. I assume there are reasons for this. Aside from this minor points, I would definitely recommend this property for a large family break. We had a great time as a family despite the unexpected power cut. Thank you to Sykes when we finally got through to the. Excellent customer service.
Andrea
The property was amazing, comfortable and had everything thing we needed, the only thing I couldn't find was egg cups
Generally everything was fine. Good size house for the 13 of us. The kitchen diner was very good, with a beautiful view, plenty of room for the children to play in the garden and the veranda was great for us all to sit out and enjoy. The Information about Llangollen and where to eat was very good. Everyone loved the Hot Tub. On the downside sometimes there was a slight smell of sewage in the downstairs bedroom with the ensuite
We had problems with the hot tub, we could only use it for about 4 days , I contacted maintenance who did come out and test it , added more chemicals, this didnt seem to make any difference. They came out again and didnt really know why it had happened. We all showered before using . We paid 200 and felt disappointed. Maintenance let the owners know but I have not had any feedback.
Our stay was very comfortable, everything was very clean and neat when we got there and some lovely bread and biscuits left on the dining room table for us, the hot tub was amazing and we all had a really good time. Would 100 return and I think Id definitely recommend to a friend
Steven
The house and gardendeck area where very nice large open plan kitchendinning room area is great when you're in a large group. Only real issues we had was the Hot tub we'd payed an extra 200 for wasn't turned on when we got to the property and I had to wait on hold for 45mins to talk to some from Sykes who arranged someone to come to the property and turn it on. There also seemed to be a airlock in the plumbing meaning there was a very loud noise from the kitchen tapssink area whenever anyone used water anywhere in the house. These were minor issues that didn't take away from a generally good experience overall.
Christine
We left a filled in sheet at the property. Main complaints 1 directions given were misleading all that was needed was the number of the house and the street name which was given 2 you gave us the wrong code for the keys 3 various lights did not work. 4 no mention was made about needing matches to light the gas
Beautiful HUGE house, super location and OMG what an amazing view!!!
Thank you for sharing your house we had a lovely time :) Lots to do for the kids. Welcome pack was very thoughful of the owners. Beautiful house with beautiful views. We will definitely come back..
Anniversary/Birthday
This Bungalow is amazing and well laid out. Plenty of bathrooms for the amount of people. We had a fab time getting together for mum and Dads 35th Anniversary and my Birthday. Views amazing location to town good. When we arrived we had been given the wrong key code so we called Sykes and they gave us correct one. We started to unpack all our cars and brought food into the kitchen area and put out on island and work surfaces to all of a sudden realised they were thick with grease so everything had to come off and wait until it had been wiped down. The cleaner had obviously just only oiled the work surfaces and left them we found the cloth and oil can. Mums coat had got covered in oil she wasn?t please. We started settling in cooking tea and could not find how to start gas hob Take matches with you we had not. Dinning room spots could not find switch so quite dark later on when playing games. We went to put Tv on whilst cooking Tea for our grandson to find no batteries actually in the remote. So we went in the car for matches and batteries. Cooker extracted would not come on so had one of the sliding patio doors open. Ok in summer but quite cold this weekend. Jacuzzi bed room lovely but Tv would not tune in so my birthday treat of this room was spoilt. At first glance bedrooms look lovely. However they are very dusty. The Bedding is horrible most of could not sleep in it as all bobbly as if all sheets and bed rugs put into together wash. For the price everyone is paying decent bedding needs to be bought and washed and ironed properly. BETTER BEDDING NEEDED We would definitely go back if a few tweaks were done decent bedding and equipment working. This needs a deep clean dust in the all areas. We found old socks Lego bits under the beds A nice welcome cake that had run out day before our stay so we left that for them. Two fridges and two freezers. Good room But could do with a clean out. There was a gate at bottom of the garden which lead to a woodland drop been left open. So had to shut so safe for grandson and then open again next morning it was open. We loved the separate area for dogs thought that was good idea but previous people had not picked up after their dogs. Sounds a bit negative but could be an amazing place not sure if owners abroad and a cleaner comes in. We arrived at Two and left one of our cars there and went into Llangollen. Cleaner had not been then as living room had rubbish on floor when we looked through the window which had gone when we came back at 3pm but the work surface should of been oiled well before our arrival luckily shopping bags are wipeable. May have dried if she cane in at 10.30am. Regards
Nicola
This property was advertised with a games room, which was half if the reason I booked it for the children. We were unable to gain entry to the games room throughout our stay. We did report this and someone was supposed to bring us a
Would recommend to others, fabulous views, stunning house, amazing location!!
Would recommend to others, kids loved it, lots to do. Hot tub is amazing. Thank you so much! Have fun playing hide & seek with the grandkids. Lots of places to hide. Fabulous views, stunning house, amazing location and a good place to share family time. My dream house, close to shops etc. Lovely quaint village within walking distance. Ample parking. Would definitely recommend!!
Loads to do, STUNNING views, Ideal for big Family get-togethers!!
Lots to do for the children - they loved the under-eaves playarea in the bedroom and the swings - ooh and the jacuzzi bath was fun. The adults enjoyed the hot tub. We loved the set up of the kitchen / dining area and the stunning views from there .. the mist lifted like magic on Sunday to reveal the castle ruins! We hope to come back sometime and will recommend you to others. Thank you for sharing your house. What a fantastic space - well laid out with lots of different areas. Ideal for our family get-together with a wide range of ages.
Fantastic space, well laid out lots of different areas, jacuzzi bath & hot tub fun!
I only normally go on here to post bad reviews when something isn't right but I saw the last review and I just had to put it straight!.. What on earth were these people smoking .. there isn't any need to become the cleaner or empty a huge commercial hot tub!! Where on earth have they got that idea I don't know. We actually discussed the review with the cleaning team who greeted us on arrival and they said that the owner chose them because they are the only ones recommended by the agents. I also learnt that they are paid hundreds of ? for every changeover due to the size and complexity of the property. The only thing they said regarding cleaning we were expected to do was of course to empty the bins and leave the place in the same condition that we found it in (immaculate by the way). Cottage or Bungalow .. tomAto, tomARto .. does it matter? Extended Dormer Bungalow to be precise but who cares? We loved the size of the place, we've never rented such a diverse property as there were so many separate areas for adults and children to be occupied in. Our youngest were delighted when they found a large dolls house and a desk inside a walk-in wardrobe and they played in there for hours! Also, we had endless games of hide and seek - to the point the adults wouldn't play any more. The other things we were impressed with were the free WiFi and free Netflix as well, the children enjoyed the conservatory 'play room' and huge rear garden. The hot tub and jacuzzi bath weren't why we booked the property but they were REALLy welcome after a long day sight-seeing. The house wasn't a far walk from the shops and Llangollen's canal & railway so again not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about! We had no problem walking back from the restaurant on an evening and wouldn't dream of bothering with a taxi / car. Hopefully we'll get to stay at Talgais again in the future as there wasn't any one person in our party (of 12) that had a bad word to say about it.
This is a beautiful property with absolutely stunning views. It is fully equipped with everything for a very relaxing holiday. Easy to find and only a short drive to Llangollen village. Like every appliance ,sometimes they go wrong, or need replacing, and sadly for us, this was the case with the hot tub. But the communication with the owner was second to none, and a swift solution to the problem was quickly sorted. I would definitely recommend this property for families who just want to enjoy being in a lovely accommodation and surrounded by beautiful landscape. Perfect for birders and walkers. I hope to come back to this place very soon.
Bethany
The cottage was really clean and very well equipped. The cakes and bread that had be bought for when we arrived was a lovely touch. It is such a lovely cottage and the view for the hot tub is beautiful. The hot tub took a very long time to warm up even though it had been on for a few days before we arrived however when I asked for assistance with this it was resolved quickly and we were in the hot tub within Hours.
Expensive for what it was..Dont waste your money
Photos of the house looked wonderful .but ..this is a bungalow not a cottage and is situated down a street a couple of miles from Llangollen. Once inside the property the views of the countryside are amazing from the hot tub and we enjoyed our stay. However, the house itself was grubby the oven been disgusting, fridges etc. The kitchen worktops need sanding and re-oiling. Initial impression of the bedrooms was that I thought the bedding had not been changed but then realised that they didnt iron the duvet covers. We paid just under a grand for day and a half stay !!!!!!! And we had to get out of the property by 10 am on the Sunday so not even a full weekend. The final straw was the list of cleaning that we had to do before leaving such as emptying bins, cleaning all the bathrooms and shower screens ! Hoovering and mopping the floors ! And even emptying the hot tub to name but a few.. I have never stayed anywhere where you have to clean the property before the next people arrive...!! No doubt why the place is grubby as most people are not going to clean very thoroughly. With the money they charge they should get a proper cleaner to go in and blitz the place... All in all dont waste your money it would be cheaper to stay in a hotel and you wont have to do any cleaning..

Out of all of the Go Ape! courses the one in Cheshire is the most spread out and it takes staff ten minutes to patrol the site on bike - which gives a good indication of the size of this place.  If you're looking for an adventurous and memorable day out then Go Ape is highly recommended.  Trek through the treetops, swing between the trees and enjoy zip wire rides all as part of your experience.  This attraction opens every day from the end of March to end October and is open on weekends in November.  Go Ape Cheshire is closed every Tuesday except school holidays.
