Hoodgill Barn Reviews

Lovely cottage in a fabulous location, great views and so lovely to see the stars at night. Very quiet location with lovely walks on your doorstep. The barn was beautiful, home from home with a lovely welcome pack on arrival. It housed everything you need, very clean.

Christina
Great location for low force walks lovely spacious cottage very well equipped comfortable with fantastic views only negative was toilet seat in on suite slightly wobbly and I am sure Peter will get this sorted. Hot tub sheer luxury everything else totally positive
Deborah
Fantastic. Felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, yet plenty to do around the property. So peaceful, beautiful views, and the hot tub room was perfect. The cottage was clean, lovely inside and out and everything provided. The owner, Peter, was so helpful and friendly, thank you.
We had the most amazing and relaxing time here. I couldnt fault anything.

We had a fantastic weekend catching up with friends 5 from Glasgow and 1 from Oxford. The cottage is very comfortable lots of space added bonus was the hot tub. Beautiful location, very peaceful.

Lovely cottage, spotlessly clean, in a peaceful setting, with views across valley from all frontofhouse rooms. Peter met us when we arrived to hand keys over and gave lots of helpful advice on the cottage and the area. There was a generous welcome hamper. Thanks! Great local walks, and loads of day trips within 1 hours travel. Hot tub is a great feature for kids, or for adults if they can get in before the kids! Coop in Middleton stays open until 10pm. Areas for improvement? We struggled a bit with the cooker just a single oven and seemed to take for ever to heat up. But we were a large group of 6 adults, 3 kids, plus a baby. Also it rained every day and we felt there was a shortage of drying facilities perhaps we should have been less reluctant to put the heating on!. But overall, a great holiday.

We had a fabulous two weeks at Hoodgill Barn exploring the sites, now missing our daily walk to the waterfalls. Hot tub well used after our long walks. Three generations making great memories together, just what we needed

We had a fantastic week at Hoodgill Barn, the setting was perfect set back off the road it was so peaceful. Looking out from the front garden you don't see anything but the countryside. The accommodation was very comfortable and was well equipped and the hot tub was great. Peter was very helpful and accommodate, would recommend to anyone. Thanks
Louise
We just spent 3 nights here as a group of 6 friends for my husbands 60th birthday celebrations. The host Peter met us at the property with lots of useful information and a lovely welcome hamper. The cottage is in a really peaceful setting. Some beautiful walks in the area, including the stunning high force waterfall. The cottage is very spacious, warm and well equipped. Wonderful addition of the hot tub in the extension. Nicely decorated, super comfy beds. Would definitely recommend to others.
Me and 8 friends had a 2 night stay here just this last weekend for my 50th yearof celebrations! ! We had a blast, Peter met us at the property and had left 2 bottles of bubbly to help with the celebration
Hoodgill Barn suited our requirements very well, I was only sorry we could not stay longer and explore the area more thoroughly. Hot tub was great, beds very comfortable. Short of a bedside lamp in one room but otherwise we had everything we needed.

Fantastic, comfortable cottage, well equipped kitchen. Including a very nice welcome hamper. The location was ideal for walking and the views out across the valley and fells were lovely, especially at sunset. Well recommend, thanks again to our host.
Louise
Fabulous cottage in a beautiful setting so the perfect spot for us. Peter was very helpful with tips for walks and fishing. So many walks out the back garden to stunning woods and the river. Very comfortable and warm and all the utensils and equipment we needed. Deers at Raby estate were a highlight Thanks
Beautiful cottage in beautiful countryside. Peter met us at the cottage and provided help and advice on walks and things to see. We had a lovely few days with our family and wished we could have stayed much longer!

We loved the place. Was nice and big for all of us to stay in. Lots of stairs but we got our steps in. Used the tub a few times was nice to sit there. It rained most the time but that didnt bother us. We sat in the tub listening to the rain. It was great that both waterfalls Low force and High force very close near by. Lots of walks to be had. Its also nice and dark so you can see the stars when we did have the odd clear night. I would go back again. Loved the area. And the owner was great. He showed me round and was a funny guy. Still wondering about them dam 3 seashells.

Hoodgill Barn is one of the best holiday cottages Ive stayed in. It was clean, had a well equipped kitchen, super comfy beds and plenty of space for the five of us. And the hot tub in the sun room with the comfy sofas and fabulous view was a great way to while away our time. The host Peter gave us some great tips on where to eat and walk to locally, both of which are in abundance.
Katherine
Peter was great, the accommodation was great, just the break our family needed.

A lovely cottage in a wonderful location, would definitely book again. A gorgeous hamper awaited our arrival the owner was in touch and really helpful. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing place! Immaculately presented and no issues to be found! 100 recommend this location to any group who enjoys getting out on walks and exploring the local countryside or nearby towns.

A fabulous place to stay. House was fantastic and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a great way to relax. The house is in such a lovely location, fabulous views and nice and quiet. Great walks from the door which our dog loved. Highly recommend this property and we will definitely return. Stacey met us at the house and was lovely. She was really helpful and gave us lots of information on good places to visit, eating out etc.
Beautiful cottage, beautifully kempt and location is fab. Owner Peter very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely holiday. Thankyou.
Hoodgill Barn was perfect for our little holiday. Very comfortable, spacious, had everything we needed and more. Peter, the owner, was super helpful and easily contactable before and during our stay. We will definitely go again this was a perfect base to explore the beautiful area and relax in. The hot tub was an added bonus and the accommodation to a high standard.
Wonderful property which we used for an intergenerational get together. Superb support from the owner both friendly and practical. Lovely views and walks straight from the property. Highly recommend.
Louise
Excellent place to stay, loved every minute even though there was a power cut and we had no electric all weekend! !!

We spent a lovely week at Hoodgill Barn and would love to return. The cottage is in a beautiful location close to pretty villages and towns and we found plenty to do. The moors are stunning and a great place to explore and low force and high force are close by. The cottage itself was very clean and Peter the owner welcoming and helpful.
Cracking cottage right on the edge of numerous walking routes. Plenty to do in and around the area for adults, kids and dogs. All rooms were spacious and clean enough for our group of 4 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs. Remote enough to enjoy peace and quite but also close enough to a village to get supplies. The hottub and entertainment side of the building is very clean and met all of our needs whilst we stayed there.
Excellent cottage, warm and very comfortable. We were a family of 6 and there was so much space it was very clean and it has everything you could possibly need The beds were very comfortable. Lots to do in the area. The hot tub was fab and a bonus it was undercover Peter the owner was very friendly and nothing was to much trouble We will most definitely return in the summer months
Everything about Hoodgill Barn was perfect from the place itself to the welcoming and friendly attitude of the host.

Absolutely lovely stay and ideal for what we wanted. Staff really helpful To go that extra mile i would recommend maybe a small milk, more than 2 tea bags and biscuits as a welcome. For people driving 4 plus hours lovely to come in and have when you get in.
Elizabeth
A lovely cottage in a picturesque and peaceful location. Beautiful walks from the back gate and plenty of space to relax and unwind. The accommodation had everything we needed and the owner, Peter, who met us at the property to show us around and tell us how everything worked, was friendly and helpful giving us plenty of suggestions of places to go and things to do.
I've booked with Sykes for over a decade and will not be booking again due to the totally inadequate service in the run up to my holiday this time. No replies to messages, couldn't get through on the phone after hanging on for hours on end and the website didn't provide any useful information to help with my queries. I totally appreciate that Covid 19 is unprecedented, but when you're due to pay for a holiday and have questions, it isn't acceptable that they aren't responded to within a reasonable time and after many weeks. Feel totally let down as a customer. As for the accommodation we rec'd lots of information in advance around what would be different, none of which was eg removal of cushions, teatowels, take own handwash etc didn't apply. The cottage was OKscenery lovely & bedsbedding good. Lack of crockery meant we had to wash up after every small meal or drink to be ready for the next...no pasta or soup bowls and 1 of everything else, even mugs etc per person and just one large plate & 1 side plate which wasn't really enough. Hot tub was OK but jets didn't really do muchnot as good an experience as we'd usually expect. Overall OK but not great.
Had a really lovely time , lots to do kids had a ball with the hot tub , would come back for a stay . Everyone was very helpful . Accommodation was excellent. Good time was had by all .

Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
