Skylark Reviews

Jennifer
This property was beautiful, my family and I were able to switch off from the outside world, relax and enjoy the beautiful lake views and sound of ducks in the morning! The interior was lovely and comfy, everything was perfect and the lodge had everything you needed and more, the owner Liz was lovely to and we wanted to thank her and say sorry we couldnt leave a review in the visitors book we didnt have a pen but we would had said. This was our best ever stay yet and thank you so much for making it so special xxxxx
Really lovely location right on the lake. Appreciated the spotlessly clean windows throughout
Jeremy Matthew
The setting is delightful so tranquil and so soothing. The lodge is more than adequately equipped for any cook there's even a pizza cutter and a lettuce spinner! The slippers left on the beds were a nice touch and the heating keeps the place at a comfortable temperature at this time of year. When we weren't out visiting sights in the area, we loved sitting on the verandah in the autumn sun, listening to the wind soughing in the alders and the three giant poplars watching the ducks, moorhens and the heron and observing how the surface of the lake changed with the wind and weather. Bliss.
We have just returned from a lovely week staying in Skylark. The location of the site is ideal for exploring RossonWye and the Forest of Dean area. All the sites and attractions we visited were within a half hour drive and it was easy to pop into the town of Ross for an evening meal. The site has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, although you could still sometimes hear the dull roar of the traffic on the M50 when sat out on the deck or in the garden, not that the noise spoilt our enjoyment. The cabin itself was comfortable and just the right size for us and our two young children. The kitchen was well equipped, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that we were supplied with tea towels, oven mitts, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. There were also complimentary toiletries and even slippers, which was a nice touch! The beds in one bedroom were made into a comfortable super king size double, the second bedroom was made into two singles. However, the single beds were only 26 wide and one of my children fell out a couple of times in the night as they are used to 3 single beds. I think adults would struggle to sleep in one of these single beds but I do appreciate the size of the bedroom dictates the size of the beds. We enjoyed using the hot tub but felt a bit overlooked by the Kingfisher cabin which is right next door. Its a shame that the hot tub wasnt sited in the garden area on the deck side of the cabin. At the time of booking, we could have booked any of the log cabins, however if wed seen a site plan, we would have booked the Mallard cabin. Its the same size as Skylark but on its own at the end of the lake, so would have been a bit more private and also given our boys a bit more outdoor space to play in. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and wouldnt hesitate to stay here again or recommend to friends.
Lovely place, nice quiet stay to relax, if one thing could be added, that would be steps from the decking to the enclosed garden. We will are coming back.

Five star environment Two star Cabin Log cabin very dated needs a good update ... Five star environment Two star Cabin Log cabin very dated needs a good update and decent table the one in Skylark is very poor The hot tub is poorly positioned as it is overloaded by the Kingfisher balcony We never saw the owners it would have been nice to say hello The plus side the Moody Cow food was excellent would highly recommend
Everything was excellent. Lovely setting.
Lovely clean, comfortable, well equipped lodge in beautiful well kept surroundings. Fishing was good, will return.
Daniel
Really nice place, we booked it for a week but only stayed for 5 days due to work commitments. The site is well looked after, the lodge was very clean and spacious, had everything we needed. Cutlery etc was spotlessly clean which is something we always look for. We used the beefeater pub down the road a few times, we found the staff there very friendly and the food was good too. The location is far enough out of town for nice quiet evenings but close enough to the town for daytime shopping and exploring. All in all, we were very impressed. There was one odd situation with a guy riding round on a quad bike. Maybe the ownergroundskeeper?? Seemed to stare into the lodge all morning which made us feel a little bit like we were under observation. My son stayed with us and has his own car so he parked by the lodge, out of the way. After a morning of staring into the lodge the guy on the quad drove past, purposefully looked at my sons car and shook his head. No idea what that was all about, maybe he doesnt like Vauxhalls?? I went out to see if there was a problem but hed gone. Strange.. Anyway, other than that, would recommend.
It was pleasure to stay there, everything was good, thanks a lot.
Caroline
A beautiful peaceful location. Breakfast with birdsong every day, great facilities in the house and a relaxing hot tub. Even our teenagers loved it.
Gareth
Really beautiful and tranquil and caught some carp. Excellent get away.
We have just returned from a lovely two week holiday staying in Skylark Lodge. We had forgotten just what peaceful really meant. No sound of traffic or other associated noises just the sound of birdsong with the occasional quack from the ducks and maybe a rumble of a distant tractor. If you are looking for somewhere to relax this is the place. The lodge itself could not be faulted, all of the windows overlooked the lake. Sitting around the table on the veranda for breakfast or dinner allows hours of pleasure watching nature evolve around you. The lodge had everything and more that was needed to allow you just to unpack and relax. Within a five minute drive or twenty minute walk was The Moody Cow excellent food and service. If the budget is a little more restricted a ten minute walk in the opposite direction would bring you to the Beefeater which itself has a comprehensive menu. Fishing on the lake is very good but whether you catch or not it doesnt matter. There are many places of interest to visit, we went to nearby RossonWye handy for shopping as it has a Sainsburys and Morrisons as well as numerous individual shops. Days out were spent in, Hereford, Gloucester Quays, Leominster, Ledbury dont forget to buy some cherries from the local farms if you are there in July and Great Malvern. Needless to say we have rebooked to return. One last thing a big Thank you to Mark for recovering my fishing float which had been expertly cast by me into a tree!! Ann Adams

Really enjoyable stay. More provided than said in your information. Eg tea cloths, washing up liquid, little biscuits, plenty of shower gel etc. very relaxing, beautiful surroundings
This is a beautiful lodge in a stunning setting, sited right beside a small lake. The site is maintained immaculately, and a wonderful place to spend time birdwatching and just enjoying the peace and quiet. It would have been nice to have a welcome pack on our arrival, as there is no shop within walking distance, and after travelling, a cup of tea is the first thing you want. However, Ross is less than 10 minutes away by car, where there are plenty of shops.
Honestly, can't recommend here highly enough! This was my first holiday without my family, and it was simply amazing The lodges and the lake are all absolutely beautiful, and the facilities especially the hot tub! were excellent and there was everything we needed. The owner was excellent and very kind, and when there was a leak, he handled it very quickly and effectively with an engineer so there was no stress at all Absolutely amazing, thank you so much for a great holiday, and i hope to return, this time bringing my family
Katharine
A delightful lodge, in lovely surroundings.
The complete relaxation and quietness of the cabin and surrounding area. The cabin was beautiful and all we could have wished for, thank you.
Philip
Lovely location, nice accommodation, great fishing. Had a relaxing week at Skylark and would definitely go back there.
Audrey
Well placed, quiet location, good for access to beautiful walks and attractions in HerefordshireForest of DeanWelsh borders. The private hot tub has therefore been a very welcome feature at the end of the day. We had a lovely and comfortable stay. The Cosens family, August 2021

Lovely week in a tranquil setting. Really enjoyed sitting out on the decking overlooking the lake. Lodge was maintained at a high standard. Clean and well stocked with necessary household items including foil, cling film and grease proof paper, Minor point maybe a few extra more plates and serving bowls would be useful. Hottub was great. Nice touch to provide hotel slippers.
Leonard
Everything was excellent, very quiet location and very private Facilities for ... Everything was excellent, very quiet location and very private Facilities for a BBQ at some distance from the main cottages would have made it perfect
Nicholas
We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the property given the present pandemic situation. We took our own cleaning materials and spent the first two hours cleaning. It was not just hidden areas i.e. under furniture but also visible areas.
Jennifer
The lodge we stayed in Skylark was perfectly positioned for fishing. It had its own jetty, which my husband spent s lot of time on. He caught some fantastic fish and plenty of them. The hot tub was also a lovely treat. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Great location, peaceful surroundings. Lodge is excellent
Maxine
Absolutely superb couldn't fault it. Location was fantastic. Views stunning. The perfect get away.
Charlotte
It was a literal home from home and gave us the perfect relaxing family break. Well located and a good price.
Friendly owners , lodge very upto date and modern ,very well equipped, peaceful and tranquil
We just love this place! This is the fourth time we've stayed, each at a different time of year so we can see the contrasting seasons. The one constant is the tranquility. Highly recommended.
Lovely property, very comfortable, excellent location, quiet and peaceful. Had a great week. Ideal for exploring in to Wales and the Forest of Dean as well as Ross on Wye a couple of miles away.
This place is a gem ,second time we have been and loved every minute off our 2 week holiday. Cant wait to go back next year..paul and benda hartlepool.

Owners very helpful. My only criticism is that the lane leading to the Lodges drive entrance is pitted with large potholes. While trying to avoid the largest ones I damaged the front underside of my Nissan Qashqai. Due to the very wet weather it was impossible to judge the depth of the potholes when full of water. I think it would be helpful to future tenants to be made aware of this before they arrive.
Joanna
The location is beautuful perfect for a relaxing holiday. Will definitely be returning.
This was just a great place. Second time back and had everything we wanted from our holiday so peacful and the settings are fantastic
We had a brilliant weekend in such a lovely setting. The children loved the hot tub. We will definitely come back
Allison
Comfortable accommodation with lovely extra touches in a quiet and beautiful location. Owner was extremely helpful on arrival and throughout stay. Would highly recommend
