Chalk cliffs and sunsets over Colwell Bay make the west the most romantic side of the Isle of Wight. It’s the quietest, too. Walk the 6.6km circuit from Freshwater Bay over Tennyson Down, and you’ll have earned an evening in the tub. Lymington to Yarmouth is the handiest crossing.
Autumn and winter are when the tub really earns its keep. The beaches are quieter, it’s dark by teatime and the whole Isle of Wight has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2019, so wildlife is never far away.
