The Barn at Catacol Reviews

We wanted a relaxing break to recharge following a busy time and in the lead up to grandparent duties over half term. This was the ideal location. Set within a beautifully tranquil garden which we were able to explore and was just taking on some stunning colours of Autumn. In addition to exploring the garden it was possible to take walks from the doorstep and I made good use of the OS Maps app on my phone for this. There were also some lovely canal side walks within a short drive for a less strenuous outing. The compact property offered everything we needed for this break, even an alternative of lap trays for those of us of an older age that found the bar stool style chairs and table to be not an easy option. Likewise, although very comfy, the sofa was low and very soft meaning it was an effort at times to get up out of it.
The whole experience from the hosts and the accommodation was outstanding, everything that is needed was there, even great walking routes from the door step or a short drive away other places to visit, wildlife all around to spot, or listen out for, while star gazing from the hot tub and relaxing the night away, will be going back very soon, already looking at dates for next year. 1010,.
We loved our week at the Barn. We spent a good portion of our time soaking in the views of the trees or across the valley whilst soaking in the hot tub. Lots of good day trips out to Matlock, local historic houses or into the Peaks. The house itself is well equipped and nice and roomy and the grounds are extensive providing ample opportunity for bird watchers. We'd highly recommend if looking for some R&R
The barn was very comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed eating outside on the raised patio, looking out over the lovely gardens and hills, rather than balancing on the high bar stools at the table inside, but there were also lap trays provided. Lots of National Trust properties within an hours drive, which was great given the drizzly weather all week. Val was welcoming and provided recommendations of places to go locally. Thank you.

We spent a lovely week in this beautiful place. Val, Mike and family are very welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed our chats. The barn is beautifully decorated and furnished and has everything you need for an extremely relaxing week, watching the local wildlife. The surrounding grounds and woods are great for a ramble round and the small village a walk away where The Great British Car Journey is well worth a visit to see some beautiful cars. Easy drive to many places and a lovely area to explore. Thanks for the delicious eggs, your hens are lovely. We would definitely recommend a visit to this barn.
The Barn did not disappoint it delivered what it said the hot tub is well sited and the views of the surrounding area were beautiful. Well equipped and a comfortable bed.
We had a warm welcome from Val who showed us around on our arrival and invited us to wander around the garden at our leisure, well worth a walk. The Barn at Catacol was very comfy and well appointed for 2. The patio and hot tub are a lovely place to chill and watch the birds around the garden and along the edge of the woods. There are also walks from the door through the local woodland. The Barn is set in a beautiful part of the country and there is plenty to do in the local area if you do not wish to travel far. Definitely worth a second visit.
Had a lovely week, great place for a quiet stay. Lovely garden to sit in when the weather is dry to watch the wildlife. Probably the most comfortable bed weve slept in so good for a restful stay. Handy spot for either getting into the Peaks and plenty of national trust house to visit if thats your thing. House is half mile up the bridle way and ok as long as u dont have a Ferrari we have a cashqai and it was fine. We didnt meet a single vehicle as only a few houses up there. Couldnt ask for better hosts
Lovely property, very clean, quiet and comfortable. Hot tub and 14 acres of hillside gardens and woodland to explore
Denise
A really clean, cosy and comfortable place to stay. The location was spot on being secluded but with great views. Walks on your doorstep in lovely old fashioned woodlands. The hot tub was a real bonus just relaxing looking up at the stars in the evenings. Great friendly hosts. Will be back.

We recently stayed at the barn and were delighted with how clean and comfortable the accommodation was. Everything you could need for a short break was available, even hair straighteners! The only slight criticism we have its not a negative, is that we found eating at the bar table quick tricky as the stools are too high. The hot tub was a delight. Relaxing, looking at the stars whilst listening to the owls was wonderful. The owners were very helpful and communicated instructions clearly. Would definitely stay again!

This was an amazing secluded place to escape the world! The barn conversion has everything you need and more, the hot tub is perfect to lay and watch the night sky surrounded by nature. Val was a lovely host, very informative on our arrival, we will definitely be coming back soon!
Lovely stay, very cosy place in a lovely location, thank you so much
A very wellappointed barn conversion in a delightful and peaceful setting. We particularly enjoyed the peace and quiet and being able to explore the extensive grounds making it possible to do a good walk straight from the doorstep. We also enjoyed some excellent eating places close by and it is an excellent gateway to the Peak District.

Very clean and comfortable barn in a peaceful location however was very disappointed to find out when we got there that the hot tub was out of order and we could not use it as this was one of the main reasons we booked this specific property.
Great location ideal for those that want to explore some 14 acres of surrounding forest. Property as advertised and Val the host made us very welcome. I believe this to be the first review posted as property only been listed since August Would definitely return

My wife and I have just returned home from a lovely week spent at The Barn At Catacol. 13th 20th September. We enjoyed a relaxing stay in the idyllic surroundings of the barn, alternating with days out to some nearby attractions. The barn had everything we needed and we felt very much at home there in its 14 acres. Our host, Val, was extremely friendly and helpful. She gave us information about the barn and the local area. Thanks Val. We can recommend a visit to the nearby Crich Tramway Museum and the National Trust Workhouse & Infirmary in Southwell. The scenery local to the barn is also outstanding. Two restaurants we visited were the Tom Yum Thai in Belper, under the mill and the nearby Anila Indian restaurant. Both served excellent food.
