Apple Tree Cottage is a wonderful old stone-built semi-detached home on the Merewood Estate, one mile from Troutbeck Bridge, located exactly midway between Ambleside and Windermere, and just a short walk from Lake Windermere. This spacious cottage is suitable for a couple who wants to enjoy the stunning countryside while being close to the various attractions and activities available in the area.
This cottage boasts a light and airy open-plan living space from which you can see Lake Windermere across the fields and through the trees at certain times of the year. Outside, there are two patios where you can sit back and relax with a cool drink at any time of day, and you're invited to utilise the communal lawned areas that surround the cottage.
Across the road from the cottage is the Cragwood Country House Hotel, which features a restaurant and afternoon tea and coffee. The hotel also offers a fantastic outside area where you can sit with a drink and enjoy the wonderful views of the lake.
The cottage is adjacent to the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, which has gardens, treetop nets, a treetop hike, laser clay shooting, archery, bike hiring, and a cafe. From here, lake steamers pick up passengers to sail up to Ambleside or down to the lively towns of Bowness and Lakeside.
There are also some charming walks and bridleways to explore directly from the door of this Lake District cottage, up into the beautiful Troutbeck Valley and across to Wansfell, as well as the gardens at Holehird, which are run entirely by volunteers and are an enchanting and inspiring place to explore. This lovely home, Apple Tree Cottage, is ideal for a romantic getaway at any time of year.
