Staying at this impressive, stone-built property just outside Windermere offers friends or family the perfect Lake District escape. Set in the heart of South Lakeland, the house provides easy access to the stunning lakes, with Bowness-on-Windermere just a two-mile walk or drive away, where you can explore charming streets, cafes, and shops.
Golf enthusiasts will appreciate being less than a mile from the renowned Windermere Golf Club. For outdoor lovers, the surrounding area is a paradise.
Enjoy scenic walks and bike rides along the fells, through woodland trails, or around the shores of Lake Windermere, taking in the breathtaking views that make the Lake District so iconic. The property welcomes you through a traditional slate and glazed entrance porch, complete with stone seating on either side.
Inside, the dining room exudes style, with exposed ceiling beams and shuttered windows framing the garden outside. The lounge is a cosy retreat with a wood burner, panelled walls, and a bay window that make it a lovely spot to gather on chilly evenings.
The drawing room showcases the elegance of Victorian architecture, with tall windows, high ceilings, ornate cornice mouldings, and recessed alcove shelving – a stately setting for conversation or quiet reading. At the heart of the home, the kitchen brings Lakeland charm to modern living.
Equipped with two electric ovens, an induction hob, and generous cabinetry, it's easy to prepare meals with everything at hand. A Belfast sink sits beneath a window overlooking the house's side garden, and a door leads directly out to the grounds.
The eight bedrooms are spread across two floors, each with unique views of either the gardens or the surrounding countryside. Two of the rooms include en-suite shower rooms, five bedrooms have en-suite WCs, and there are two further house bathrooms, providing flexibility for families and groups.
This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
