The Old Water Mill

We stayed at The Old Water Mill to celebrate a family birthday and had a wonderful experience. Chris, the owner, gave us such a warm welcome and went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable, even providing a beautiful welcome hamper on arrival. The Mill was spotlessly clean and set in a truly magical location, so close to the river. It easily accommodated our group of eight and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. I would highly recommend this property for a holiday, and we will definitely be booking another stay later this year.

We had a fabulous stay at the Watermill! There were eight adults in our group and even with the weather keeping us indoors, we stayed perfectly cosy with the fire on and plenty of space to relax. The dcor is stunning, the kitchen is incredibly well equipped, and the sound of the river was so soothingeveryone slept brilliantly! My husband and I previously stayed at the Hare Shack and loved it, so we brought the whole family back to another of Chris and Julies properties, and it certainly didnt disappoint. Were already planning to work our way through all of their cottages! Highly recommend.

We absolutely loved The Old Water Mill. I had actually been coveting a trip here a few years ago and we ended up booking it about 18 months out as it appeared to be so popular. Now we are already thinking about booking it for 2 years time for another Lake District trip! The location is fantastic, a short drive to everything in the lakes but also lots of amazing walks from the door step loved our hike up to Gurnal Dubs for a wild swim!. You could also easily spend a day just sat enjoying the trees and river around the house. All the beds and linen were super comfy and we all appreciated having a bathroom each. The baths are amazing but ended up not using them much due to the fact we loved the hot tub so much! Lovely little welcome hamper which was much appreciated. We felt so at home here and genuinely can't wait to return! We did have just a few very small suggestions though Complimentary toiletries aside from handwash a couple of us didn't bring body wash as thought this would be included Pegs outside for towels next to hot tub Recycling bins inside seperate to waste for ease of sorting

We had the most incredible stay at The Old Watermill, and cant recommend it highly enough! Tucked away in a peaceful spot with stunning views of both a flowing river and a majestic mountain right in the backyard, this place is pure magic. Chris and Julie are fantastic hosts warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about making sure guests have a wonderful experience. Their attention to detail and local tips made our stay even more special. The house itself is full of character, beautifully maintained, and spotlessly clean. It blends the charm of its original features with all the comforts you could need. Waking up each morning to the sound of the river with a coffee, was our best highlight. Were already excited to return!

The Old Watermill is a wonderful cottage in a stunning location. Chris and Julie have restored the Mill beautifully, with everything you need for a comfy stay. The Mill is decorated in keeping with the area, with lovely soft furnishings and special touches. The welcome hamper was a nice surprise and the addition of hand soap, a laid fire, bbq and so many small touches, made it feel like a home from home. Although Kendal is just a short drive away for anything you need, the Mill is in such an amazing spot you feel in the middle of nowhere! Wildlife is all around viewed from the decking over the rushing River Sprint or from the sunset spot looking over the fields. A swim in the river, followed by a dip in the hot tub, a perfect way to unwind after a day walking or cycling. The Mill is truly a special place to relax and get away from it all.

We had the most incredible week at the Old Water Mill. The moment we arrived we were greeted by Chris who showed us around the property, gave us the history of the property and information on the local area, and Chris and Julie provided us with a welcome hamper with tea, coffee and cake plus milk in the fridge which was really appreciated after a long journey. We valued the attentiveness of Chris and Julie who were nearby to answer any questions or provide any assistance if needed, whilst respecting our privacy during our stay. As for the property, it is everything you could ask for and more. It has been tastefully designed to the highest standards both inside and out, and every amenity you could ask for is provided. The beds are superbly comfortable and every one of us slept brilliantly, and the large sofas allow everyone to comfortably lounge together around the fire. The well equipped kitchen makes cooking each evening a delight, and the large dining table allows everyone to eat together with plenty of space. Every room provides breathtaking views onto the River Sprint, which is fascinating to watch as it changes rapidly and races over the rapids the property sits above. The large deck provides a perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee watching the rapids, and around the side of the property is a large hot tub which Chris attends to regularly and a fire pit, which we used most evenings. All of these amenities are completely private, with nothing but the trees and river surrounding them, offering unparalleled relaxation and tranquility. Across the narrow private road, the Sunset Spot provides the perfect place to spend an evening together looking out over the river and fields, spotting wild birds and river otters we spotted one. There are also steps down to a calmer spot in the river where you can dip your feet or swim. Chris and Julie provided information on walks which can be taken from the property across their farmland and into the valley or wider Lakeland, providing easy access to scenic walks of varying difficulty and lengths. You are not far from the nearby town of Kendal which has all the shops you would need, and it is an easy scenic drive deeper into the National Park. Hands down the best place we as a family have stayed, and we cant recommend this place enough to friends and family who are already wanting to look into booking and we certainly hope to return soon. AMAZING STUNNING PEACEFUL PERFECT The Mill House is beautiful in a stunning location, it has everything you could possibly want, decorated and cleaned to the highest standard. Chris & Julie are the perfect hosts nothing was too much trouble always on hand with information about the area which has so much to offer We went hiking, wild swimming, paddle boarding then back to the hot tub for my favourite part of a long day watching the sun set on the terrace with a glass of fizz! A lot of thought has gone into The Old Water Mill and I echo all other 5 star comments. It is exactly as described and shown in the photos. A super property in a stunning location with every comfort and nothing begrudged. Charming hosts. Definitely recommend for a comfortable and easy vacation. Ideal location for seeing the Lakes.

From the moment we arrived we loved it, there was 4 of us staying for the week, Chris was really welcoming and showed us around indoors & the outside area also available to contact via WhatsApp. Our week here was lovely, the views of the river from every window of the house was lovely and relaxing, the outdoor space, seating areas and hot tub was also a lovely addition, plenty of space inside the living area, dining and kitchen area. Had lovely cosy evenings with the fire going and games provided with the property. There was a welcome package and note left for us in arrival which was a really lovely touch also and an information pack to recommend walks, places to eat etc and the history of the mill which was lovely to read through. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all perfect and very comfortable also, especially the bath in the Jack and Jill bathroom which I stayed in, Overall we had a lovely stay despite a few rainy days but that didnt hinder out experience. Perfect getaway in the Lake District!

The property and location are stunning. It was one of the very rare occasions where it is even better in the flesh than portrayed on the website and it is pretty impressive on there!. We were all blown away by it. Also fantastic communications with the owners Chris and Julie.

Truly beautiful setting. The house has everything you would need, including a hot tub, plenty of seating to take in the views, a wood burning stove and very good wifi. The beds are comfortable and each bedroom has its own bathroom. Chris and Julie are lovely hosts and help you ,are the most of the holiday. We would very much like to return. Thank you.

What a beautiful place! The mill and it's surroundings provide everything for a tranquil holiday away from the beaten track but still within a short driving distance of local amenities. The house itself is spacious and has been beautifully decorated, and the gardens and flowing river surrounding it are stunning. Chris and Julie are perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We greatly appreciated the recommendations for eating out, and can highly recommend The Black Labrador. Thank you, we hope to return!

Absolutely marvellous location, property, facilities. It was peaceful and relaxing. We had two visitors who are both hoping to revisit with their families and wed love to return.

Loved this place so much last year we decided to come back this year and our daughter got married , The host are lovely so welcoming and the house is beautiful everything you could possibly want.

I absolutely loved this holiday home. Id say one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. The house was beautifully furnished and the owners had thought of absolutely everything to make the stay as perfect as possible. So well equipped, stylish, comfortable. The surroundings were amazing, we didnt really venture far as we just wanted to enjoy the house and the environment. Will definitely return .

We stayed at The Old Water Mill in late November and cannot rate our experience highly enough. The accommodation was absolutely superb with the attention to detail second to none. The location is simply stunning. The welcome we received from Chris and the thoughtful welcome package prepared by Julie was the icing on the cake. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful gem in the future.

The mill was gorgeous, no amount of photos could capture how stylish it is and what a beautiful setting it is situated in. Having met the owners you can tell it's not just a holiday let to them, they truly care about your stay and they love the mill too,.a lot of love has gone into its renovation and decoration. Chris and Julie are very informative about the area, tell you everything you need to know about the property and make themselves available if you need them during your stay, appreciated their suggestions. Lovely welcome pack on arrival, cake, tea, coffee, milk and jams, all locally sourced. Had a fantastic girls weekend, explored the area for walks enjoying nature,sat in the hot tub looking at the stars and didn't want to leave the beautiful house.

We had the most amazing 6 days, every little detail had been thought off and provided. The tea & coffee and milk in the fridge waiting, the homemade lemon cake was divine!! The house has all the amenities and was so cosy & comfy. The drinks fridge was very well used!! We loved the hot tub off an evening under the stars, the views from the rear off the property are honestly breath taking, we loved seeing how the river changes each day. This house is secluded in the middle off no where with no phone signal and honestly was just what we needed, to switch off. Kendal wasnt too far off a drive and we did get out and explore and area. Everyone in our party 7 of us couldnt fault anything & would gladly return in a heartbeat !!

Omg! Its fantastic. So clean and comfortable. Beautifully furnished. Everything you need. The scenery is breathtaking. The hot tub a bonus. Chris is so welcoming and friendly. And the Lemon Drizzle cake from Julie is heaven. Just book it and see for yourselves. We are going back.

This place is in a truly unique position and the quality of the interior is wonderful. The owners are lovely & informative & have created a wonderful place to stay. The stunning countryside is all on the doorstep. Yet the position is close enough to visit any parts of the Lakes. After the fabulous walks the hot tub was the perfect wind down. All in all a fabulous place to stay! Sykes on the other hand were not that helpful. I asked them questions beforehand & was given the wrong information, more than once.

We had a wonderful time at the the Old Water Mill , the setting was fabulous and facilities were amazing. The abundance of nature was particularly important to our daughter, we all loved watching for the wildlife at the river terrace.

Totally amazing , Chris met us to show us around , beautiful position and property. Has everything you could wish for. Julie had made us a lemon drizzle cake , the best we have ever tasted. Also a Welcome pack with some lovely goodies and essentials. Stunning in every way. Cant recommend enough . We will defo be back

WOW!! If you are looking for peace and quiet in a stunning location within a first class property with great lake district amenities close by, book this property and you have found your Shangrila . Lovely owners gave us a great tour of the property and all of its amazing amenities on our arrival. We had a super welcome pack complete with a wonderful home made cake. Super bedrooms with very comfortable beds and great ensuite bathrooms. But by far the over the river patio is where you will weather permitting spend most of your time. Many thanks Chris and Julie for sharing your wonderful property with us.

Wow, the photos done do it justice. The sound from the river is incredibly soothing. Well stocked kitchen, superb comfortable beds. Living room was super comfortable for 4 adults, not sure how it would be for more. The sunset terrace is a fab place to chill and the hot tub was fab after a day out. Owners are fab. Going to break my golden rule of never returning to the same place and already booking for next year. Fabulous.

Amazing stay with our friends for my birthday. This cottage has everything you could ever need for a weekend away. Hot tub was a lovely addition especially along side the breathtaking views. We had the most enjoyable stay at the Old Mill over the Christmas period. Its a stunning property, in the most amazing setting. The owners were friendly and accommodating and provided a lovely history of the property on arrival. Couldnt fault it one bit and will definitely be returning!

Enjoyed a 3 night stay with a group of friends at The Old Watermill. We go away every December to reconnect and relax. This house was just perfect. So wellequipped. . Lots of thoughtful touches. Spotlessly clean. Just perfect. Host met us on arrival and was so welcoming and warm. . The location with the balcony and river is breathtaking. Just perfect.

Stunning property in a stunning location. The Old Water Mill is beautifully decorated to a very high standard, the kitchen is kitted out with all the equipment you can think of, great boot room with extra fridge and freezer too. Bedrooms are also of a high standard, very comfortable beds, lovely linen. Very clean throughout, we met the hosts and they were really lovely we will definitely return!
