Peony cottage was a very pleasant, quiet and relaxing hideaway for us. Everything was well thought of and so much credit should go to the owners who explained in detail the facilities available to us and local knowledge so that we could enjoy our stay to the full. A small but fully functional kitchenette had everything we needed, the large bedroom extremely comfortable and living room dining room created a traditional style cosy area to accommodate all needs. The hot tub area was well maintained and comfortable also. My wife and I would highly recommend this cottage and surrounding area for a very pleasant getaway Caroline and Stewart 10th16th March 2026

Had such a lovely stay here, it was the perfect place for our little getaway. Very clean and had most things we needed, I did find that I needed to use scissors and also parchment paper as I needed to open food packaging and the food I had cooked in the oven got stuck to the foil so it would be great to add these items to the property, other than that it was great! We werent totally sure how to find Peony Cottage however we saw Alastair and he helped us out, he also greeted us a bit later and asked if we had any questions which was really nice. The hot tub was lovely and it was a great place to go back to every evening after our days out! Thank you so much

This is a lovely cottage, that has everything you need. The hosts have thought of everything. It feels like home. The hosts are lovely and friendly and make you feel you could ask them anything and let them know if anything went wrong. The welcome drink of prosecco was a nice extra touch, too. The Hot tub was very welcome after long walks around the area.

We got engaged at this property! !! that aside we absolutely loved Peony Cottage, so cozy, surrounded by wildlife while still being within walking distance to lakeside pier which made for some great days out. the cottage has great facilities, with the highlight being the hot tub of course which was very clean and heated perfectly. in time, we will visit again and Jules is such a welcoming host.

We had an exceptional time at Peony Cottage. The Cottage was very clean and modern and had good facilities. Well thought out and comfortable. The kitchen although small was well stocked in terms of utensils etc, we had taken our air fryer so we were happy with this. All other rooms were very spacious and airy. The bed was so comfortable and the bedding a high quality which we appreciated. Hot tub a nice extra but weather didn't mean we could use as much as would of liked, maybe a cover to be added? We stay in a lot of self catering cottages each year and this was one of highest spec so far. Happy customers.

What a great find Peony cottage was, an ideal location for exploring the southern lakes. Walks from the cottage are ample for a full week. The cottage itself has everything you need and is warm and very cozy. A great romantic retreat.

Lovely cottage! Located on the quieter side of Windermere, it is perfect for a nice, relaxing break away from busier Bowness! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, with the welcome biscuits and bottle of fizz particularly nice touches! The hot tub is also excellent and, with no light pollution at all, the stars are amazing to view on a clear night There is plenty of good walking on the doorstep of the cottage, without the need to get in the car, and trips to Bowness or Ambleside are easily achieved using the Windermere ferry service, which is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage and which I highly recommend. The Lakeside Hotel & Spa is also only 10 minutes walk away with views across the lake and a small but very good spa! Definitely planning on visiting again. 10 out of 10!!

Had a fantastic week at Peony Cottage! The cottage is very comfortable and clean. They could have tried to make it fit 4 people but making it for 2 is perfect. Had a small issue on arrival that was sorted immediately. Great walks right in the door step and the local area is beautiful. If youre looking for a quiet get away this is the place. Directions given in the welcome email are perfect and had no trouble finding it considering it not visible from the road. Lots of towels and blankets, the welcome tea, Coffey and biscuits were perfect after a long drive. Will definitely be going back in the winter this year. Thanks

Peony Cottage is idyllic , set in beautiful tranquil woodland. Perfect location to explore the Windermere, Coniston Waters and surrounding villages particularly Hawkshead. You can literally step out the front door and turn right at bottom of drive for the most peaceful walk up to High Dam, stand and listen for a moment and you hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The cottage is everything you want and need, the owners Julie and Alistair have thought of every little detail. The Hot Tub is a real bonus at the end of a long day walking, to relax those weary bones and muscles. We all have are own opinions when giving feedback but please ignore the negative comments some holiday makers have left, the cottage is absolutely perfect for a relaxing break. Absolutely beautiful cottage just a 510 walk down to lakeside where you can catch the boat to Bowness or Ambleside. Hot tub was fantastic with a little seating area. And plenty of room for parking. Only issues we had were the top step into the cottage was loose and standing in it was very dangerous and the oven was a nightmare to use. But we had a very pleasant stay

Great location with walks on the doorstep and lots of places to visit. You can go from Lakeside on the boat to Bowness which is lovely. We also visited South Walney Nature Reserve and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The cottage is very private and hot tub is great to have. Enjoyed our week in Cumbria enjoying the Lake District before heading further up into Scotland.

Peony cottage was a lovely quiet place to stay. It was fitted out with everything you need and also lovely touches like tea coffee biscuits for when you arrive. Also lovely toiletries in the bathroom. The hot tub was such a luxury and so nice to use after a day out. Within walking distance of Windermere lake for beautiful scenic boat trips. Would highly recommend a stay in this delightful cottage.

Would absolutely recommend this little cottage, we felt so much at home from the moment we walked through the door. Alistair and Julie really put some effort into making your stay so nice, you get towels provided for the hot tub along with bath robes. There are so many books, games, DVDs and videos for you to use and the bed is soooooo comfy. The hot tub is quite secluded so you can relax. There are numerous instructions for all the appliances and remote controls that if you have any problems you will easily work them out.

Me and my boyfriend just had the most amazing stay at peony cottage. The attention to detail from the hosts was amazing and had the most relaxing time! Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction. With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun. You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes. Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money. There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

about 11 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years. There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk. We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look". Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project. The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish! Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
