Croft Cottage Reviews

Judith
We all loved this property, including our old dog who really enjoyed the soft grass lawn. We had great fun playing pool and table tennis, and relaxing in the hot tub! The beds were very comfortable too. The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils, although a bread knife would have been really useful for cutting up the delicious sourdough loaves from the local bakery. The BBQ was quite difficult to use because a handle that I think is used to raise the charcoal tray so that it is close enough to the food to cook it was broken. Some of the ceilings were quite low and I don't think that is mentioned in the property description. The location was very peaceful and quiet, but within a short walk of several pubs and shops. We had a lovely holiday and highly recommend the property!
Lovely property in the middle of castleton with great choice of pubs and a wonderful bakery ! The cottage is well put together with great spaces to eat & chill plus a great hot tub. Comms with Chris were really good, she is really responsive, even posting a lost earring to us. There are lots of walks from the property plus more within a short drive, so overall a great home in a lovely place
Victoria
An absolutely AMAZING cottage which was everything we had hoped it would be! Location, facilities, cleanliness, garden, communication from owner literally EVERYTHING we wanted and needed....so much so we rebooked for next year before we'd even left!! From the eldest at 48 to the youngest at 9 months puppy Ollie! the whole family adored this holiday and can't wait to come back next year!!
Anthony
A lovely cottage right in the very heart of Castleton, but you wouldn't know it by the privacy and silence. A great place to have as a base. In Castleton there are a few shops, a restaurant, a couple of tearooms and seven dogfriendly pubs the FURTHEST pub being a couple of minutes walk! the food is very good and loads of walks, caverns and places to visit Bakewell, Crich, Chatworth..... Everyone loved the Pool table and the Hot tub was a hit with those who used it. The dogs loved being able to run around the garden and house and it was great not having to worry about them going where they shouldn't it really is DOG FRIENDLY as opposed to per my son DOG TOLERANT. The cottage has a large garden and lots of places to sit if you want to follow the sun around. Parking wise it says on the site that it is comfortable parking for a couple of cars we had three and it was absolutely fine the entrance is tight, but that is made clear on the website. There is a well equipped kitchen and wood etc supplied if you want to use the fireplace or BBQ. The rooms are comfortable and spacious our party consisted of 6 adults and 2 dogs and all happily sprawled out!. We had a welcome pack left for us and there are all sorts of little bits and pieces everywhere that are lovely touches for both humans and pets. If we visit Castleton again, we would more than happily go to Croft Cottage again with its comfort and positioning it would be the first place we searched for. Thanks Chris we had a lovely break.
Deborah
Croft Cottage is just an amazing place to stay. It had everything we could have possibly needed and the owner had left a lovely welcome pack for us. The garden was just wonderful to sit out in the Sunshine and we were visited by lots of wild life including squirrels and ducks, and our little 14 month old Shipoo was just in her element exploring all the corners of the garden and running up and down the large lawn. The pool table was a real bonus we all had fun playing this!! The Owner Chris was so lovely and kept in touch with us and I had left a few things in a bag along with our Alexa which Chris posted back to us the next day which was just amazing. Castleton is such a lovely place to visit and has lots of pubs and cafes to eat out in so there was no need to cook!! I would really recommend Croft Cottage to anyone, and we will hope to return again the future.
Michael
Delightful cottage in heart of lively Castleton. Very quiet despite being close to several pubs & restaurants. The only sound was that of the nearby church clock & bells. Croft Cottage has lots of facilities and the pool table & hot tub were well used. It had a large garden to play games & tables for snacks & drinks. The cottage is an ideal base for walks, both flat along the valley & climbs e.g. Mam Tor. We liked the cottage & area so much, we've booked it for next year!
Catherine
A really lovely cottage perfectly suited to family and dogs, with big garden, lots of games and outdoor equipment. Good parking too essential in Castleton! and excellent location. Fabulous view of Peveril Castle from the hot tub and garden!
Louise
This is a spacious property with great facilities such as parking, hot tub and pool table. The location is peaceful but accessible to the town which is very sweet with a great selection of pubs. The owner was extremely helpful and responded very quickly to queries and questions. We found the standard of cleanliness disappointing. Dusty grimy skirting boards particularly in the bathrooms. The main bedroom shower tray is very uneven and slippery. The mug stand in the kitchen was covered in a thick layer of grease and dust. No equipment had been lifted to wipe underneath items like the toaster or mug stand. Enormous cobwebs and generally very dusty. A good clean would sort all of it very easily and make Croft Cottage a 1010!
Fabulous house with everything you need. Garden big and safe for dogs. Ideal location in the heart of the village.
Lovely cottage in an ideal location. Had everything we needed. Welcome goodies were appreciated as was the jar of sweets! Highly recommend for a walking holiday in Castleton
Absolutely perfect holiday cottage, very well equipped and in a great location. Perfect for dogs beds, bowls, treats you name it and a huge enclosed garden! and a great base for walking in the Peak District. Chris was great calling the day before due to the weather conditions and advising caution due to ice and snow, she gave some pictures of conditions and also suggested I arrive early so daylight would still be there. This really is going the extra mile and the whole experience was underscored by this level of thought. Ive stayed in a number of cottages across the UK, and Croft Cottage was one of the best everything you could want, instantly feeling like home from home, a warm place to return to and brilliant owners. So many thanks to them and highly recommended.
A perfect cottage for 5 adults and 2 dogs. Extremely dog friendly with soft beds provided in the kitchen and lounge and an array of treats, balls, poo bags even dog shampoo provided. Chris the owner very proactive in communicating with us arranging for an electric whisk and bowls to be delivered Christmas Eve to enable the traditional family trifle to be made! Generous Welcome pack and Christmas treats and decorations throughout the house. We enjoyed the games table, the cosy lounge, the sociable kitchen space and the hot tub after a day walking. Plenty of space for all. Great location , quiet and tucked away with great views , within easy walking of the local amenities. Castleton is a lovely village with access to walks on the doorstep. Friendly pubs and a lovely bakery . We had a fantastic Christmas time here and would highly recommend the cottage .
Jacqueline
Lovely cottage in a great location. So good to be able to walk out of the door to so many walks and also the local facilities. Cottage has everything you need, great fun with the table tennispool table and hot tub was really nice to use after a day's walking.
Claire
We had a fantastic stay in Castleton . Croft Cottage was an excellent choice and provides super dog friendly accommodation within walking distance of numerous cafes, pubs and walks . We loved it!
Really confortable cottage. Well equipped with everything we needed for a week away with friends. The hot tub proved a big hit with the girls in the snowy weather. Boys went to cosy local pubs instead. Great location in the heart of this friendly village which has a good range of shops and eateries. Walking in the area was very scenic in the snow and frosty weather, albeit only at low levels for us. Really appreciated the support of the owner when queries arose. Thank you Chris.
Perfect location, modern cosy cottage finished to a high standard with lots of ... Perfect location, modern cosy cottage finished to a high standard with lots of thoughtful touches including fresh flowers and a welcome basket , comfy beds and good quality towels enjoyed the stunning view from the hot tub and the pool table went down well, wouldnt hesitate to recommend
Delightful cottage with excellent facilities. Everything you might need is provided. The village is excellent and location of cottage couldn't be better. Very central but very quiet.
We quickly relaxed into this excellent cottage which was very comfortable and warm too when the weather had turned cooler. The hot tub and pool table were great additions! The position of the cottage was perfect being set away from the busyness of the village but easy walk to all the facilities and excellent walks too. Plentiful parking was also a bonus especially in this village. Only slight disappointment was the grass and wider garden which were overgrown but likely the recent wet weather had prevented recent maintenance. Shame the weather was mixed but didnt detract from an enjoyable week. Would highly recommend this cottage.
Thank you for a lovely stay at Croft Cottage. Great location, just drive there, leave the car and enjoy the great walks in the area. My wife left an item behind and this was quickly posted back to us.
Alison
Enjoyed a fabulous week in Croft cottage , cottage and amenities excellent, situated in a lovely friendly village , would definatley reccommend croft cottage , huge gardens , plenty sitting areas , the grandchildren loved it, my six year old grandaughter was upset on thursday night , she did not want to leave the cottage, said she was very sad, we explained to her , that all good things must come to an end, we had so much fun, and now it was another familys turn to enjoy this perfect setting. Comfortable beds , plenty space just perfect
We enjoyed a lovely week at Croft cottage! It is a really well equipped and spacious cottage with a fabulous big garden, perfect for our dog and the kids! Also a great location being right in the middle of Castleton so we enjoyed being able to walk to pubs, restaurants and shops and it is a great base for exploring the Peak District! We enjoyed Mam Tor, Peveril Castle, Padley Gorge and local caves. We would definitely recommend and would love to visit again.
Croft Cottage was stunning and in a fantastic location. The garden was really dog friendly as was the cottage. Chris really looked after us with a lovely message and a beautiful welcome pack. Castleton is a quaint village with 7 pubs all dog friendly and they all offer food and a warm welcome. The village is set amongst some stunning views and great walks. I highly recommend Croft Cottage for anyone wanting to visit the Peak District. Thank you Chris for allowing us to use your beautiful cottage.
What can I say? Croft cottage is absolutely beautiful. Its a quaint and tranquil but large! cottage in a stunning part of the country. Chris the owner was fantastic, very helpful and accommodating. Some fantastic touches like the firepit package we enjoyed toasting marshmallows at night. And a welcome basket with Prosecco and nibbles! You couldnt find a better holiday home with everything you could want if you didnt want to venture out. Or for venturing out and exploring without having to take the car! Its central to walks and caves etc. I would definitely recommend, thank you for allowing us to relax and make memories as a family, amazing xxx
Wow, Croft Cottage has to be the best cottage we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect, literally in the centre of Castleton but you wouldnt know it. As soon as you shut the gates you are in a little oasis of harmony. The cottage is extremely comfortable, with everything you could possibly want and your dogs will love the huge garden. With all the walking by day, sitting in the hot tub with the castle for a view in the afternoon and then the cosy lounge in the evening. It was just perfect. We didnt want to leave and cant wait to return. I cant thank you enough Chris for giving us Croft Cottage.
A really lovely comfortable, spacious, clean cottage which was very well equipped with everything you need. Loved the extra touches such as the welcome food basket, flowers and treats for the dog. The large dog friendly garden was brilliant. It was in a fantastic location, very quiet but so central to the village. I would definitely recommend.
Lovely cottage with everything you need. 4 adults, 2 kids and a small cockapoo we all enjoyed our stay at the fabulous Croft Cottage. The table tennis was a big hit for the kids and the hot tub was just a lovely treat. The welcome gifts including Easter eggs and dog toy & ball were much appreciated. The owner Chris was very helpful and we will definitely stay again. Thank you.
The cottage is situated in a great location next to some nice pubs and within easy reach of some good walks. The cottage was very well equipped, clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing break, the welcome basket was a nice touch. The large enclosed garden was great for the dogs to stretch their legs. We have stayed in many self catering cottages in the past and this is probably the nicest, well done Chris and we would love to return again in the future.
Carolyn
My family and I really enjoyed staying at Croft Cottage. It is set in a great location within a lovely garden with a view of Peveril Castle. The hot tub was very welcome after our walks and the table tennis table provided much hilarity. The owner clearly goes to a lot of trouble to make guests feel comfortable and there are many extra touches fabulous welcome basket, dog treats, quality furnishings and equipment etc. We would love to return, perhaps in the summertime when we can make more use of the garden. Highly recommended.
Had a brilliant long weekend at Croft Cottage. Definitely one of the best cottages we've stayed at, it had everything we needed and was cosy and comfortable. Great location close to the many pubs of Castleton, but also secluded and quiet. The private parking was a big bonus. The dogs loved the enormous garden, and we loved the hot tub and pool table. Would recommend to friends and family. Thank you!
We went as a group of five adults annd 2 dogs and this is a fantastic property! !! Its in the centre of Castleton but also in a very quiet area, the property is beautifully appointed incredibly clean and worked really well. it has a really big garden which is dog friendly and lots of outside space to sit and also enjoy the hot tub. Our host made proactive contact with us and even made the property available early to arrive and late to leave. The hamper was lovely, and it is fair to say that this is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. We will definitely return.
Absolutely beautiful cottage in centre of Castleton, with huge garden Perfect for our dogs and very secure. Got so much potential to be amazingly beautiful but owners just taken cottage on 3 months ago, so look forward to returning in springsummer, Cottage very comfortable large settee for all the family. New pool table tennis table which was fun! Very well equipped kitchen with utility attached. Lovely comfortable beds a must! Extremely lovely owner easily contactable and ensured all was ok etc. I didn't really want to do this review as don't want anyone else to know about it, but it truly is a lovely place , and although it is perfectly situated in the centre of the village, it is a little haven and so tranquil. we will be back.....
Debbie
One of the best holiday cottages I have stayed at . There was amazing attention to detail ,comfort and cleanliness. The treat of sharing the hot tub was even more special when we arranged for local Wellness Brand to come to the cottage to give us massages and facials at a very reasonable cost. The location was beautiful even in January with interesting walks .There were many places to eat and drink. We will definitely be returning. Next time with the dog as there was a whole area dedicated to the dogs comfort and a large private enclosed garden . Thank you Chris for your warm welcome
Michael
Buitifull holiday
Jacqueline
Fantastic position in the village of Castleton. Friendly owner. House amazing. Hut tub brilliant. Garden huge. Our dog loved it chasing the many squirrels and it is secure. Highly recommend.
The cottage and its garden are a quiet oasis in the centre of Castleton. It was very clean, comfortable and spacious. We came across this cottage at short notice when the one we had booked was damaged by a flood and was cancelled. It was perfect for our party of 5 adults and a toddler.
This was the perfect cottage for our group of four adults two children and two dogs. The large garden with hot tub is the ideal setting for two energetic boys and dogs. The cottage is in the heart of Castleton with lots of dog friendly pubs just at the end of the road. Chris the owner had left lots of Halloween touches which were very thoughtful and the boys loved. The adults loved the welcome pack complete with wine and snacks.Everything was thought of down to treats for the dogs. The cottage is large enough but also has a very cosy feel with the log burner in the lounge.Would highly recommend and will certainly return.
It's a beautiful cottage in a great location. If you are looking for a dogfriendly cottage I don't think you can beat this, the garden is secure and I love the little touches they provide for your dog.
