Stensonhill Lodge Reviews

Lourence
We had a fantastic stay at the lodge with our group of 13 people and 2 dogs. The lodge was a great choice for a getaway, giving us plenty of space to relax, spend time together and enjoy ourselves. Everyone had a brilliant time, including the dogs! It was the perfect place for a relaxing break and making great memories together. We would definitely recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a fantastic getaway with family or friends. We had such a wonderful time and would happily stay again.
Really enjoyed our stay had everything we needed and would stay again, only slight criticism is that the kitchen utensils could do with an upgrade.
Stenson Hill Lodge was great for our group of friends, plenty of rooms with plenty of bathrooms. The only downside is that the house was very hot at night but that is more to do with the very humid weather that weekend. The location is excellent for access to Derby itself or to make your way to other townscities nearby. The hot tub was easy to use and there was plenty of outside seating space for us to enjoy the surrounding countryside and make use of the bbq. The kitchen was spacious with plenty of appliances fridges, freezers, ovens etc. to store the many foods and drinks we brought. The owners left us a very generous portion of homemade vegetable samosas which the whole group raved about! They were amazing. Upon checking in with the group, all would highly recommend staying.

The property was really well stocked with plenty of cups, plates, cutlery and pans making it ideal for hosting. It also had 2 kettles and toasters which were a godsend. The owner and the manager both welcomed us and were quick to attend when we had a question about the hot tub. Overall it was well worth the money and we had a great stay. The large lawn was amazing and gave the kids plenty of space to run around. Make sure to take a football and outdoor activities. The space itself was great and the pictures really don't do it justice.

Plenty of room. Landlord supplied a large pile of veg. Samosas as a welcome gift. Hot tub was good. Some of the fixturesfittings are a bit 'tired'. Upstairs bedrooms would benefit from some chest of drawers. Caretaker is part of a 'wild west society' who have built a wild west town behind the property. We were invited to watch a gunfight reenactment, which we all enjoyed.
It was absolutely perfect for our large family gathering. Lots of space for us to be together and make memories. Warm greeting by owner and the manager with thoughtful touches throughout.

Location lovely. Maintenance man friendly and helpful and easily contactable. Good sized property. Very clean and tidy. Beds very comfortable. We went during a very cold and windy period. The hot tub could benefit from being enclosed during winter. It is surrounded by netting. Kitchen has all utilities. Only recommendation is the kettles need to be descaled. The shower downstairs was not very hot. Towels, dishwasher tablets, dishclothes, liquid all provided. The heating can be turned up or down by the renters if needed. Town centre not too far about 12 minutes. Would book again especially in the summer.

First appearances the house was lovely really fantastic location, nice welcome of home made samosas. Disappointed when looking round the house, everywhere grubby and I had to clean all the bathrooms before our family arrived. Didn't appear to have been hoovered either, we have stayed in lots of Sykes houses, and it was for my daughters 40th birthday. No little touches like hand soap.
We needed a big space for a gathering of generations for a family wedding nearby. The Lodge has plenty of space inside and out, good bathroom ratio, a huge dining table and was warm. This was not a luxury place, but if you want to relax in a big space and not worry about getting on top of each other this is a good option. The price reflects the condition and maintenance of the building and if the odd technical hitch isnt going to spoil your stay, then its great. Some general DIY and updating would improve it hugely as well as a deep clean, BUT we had a great family time and the young children loved the space. You need to take your own hand soap for the 4 bathrooms, dishwashing liquid, paper towel, dishcloth. Bath towels were large and the beds decent.

We had a great weekend at Stensonhill Lodge. It suited us as a base for a craft weekend. Plenty of pubs close by and shops to hand if needed. The dining table was enormous, great for group meals and for crafting. Good range of ground floor and first floor accommodation. The kitchen was really well equipped to cater for larger groups. We had a couple of problems but a call to the owner rapidly resolved this. In arrival we were welcomed, shown how things worked and presented with the most incredible vegetable samosas. The lodge was warm, comfortable and well equipped. We did struggle to get the WIfi to work but managed without it for the weekend. We would book again.
We had a great weekend at the property celebrating my 60th birthday. It gave us plenty of space to meet, share meals and be together. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook for everyone. The welcome samosas were very tasty and enjoyed by us all. The hot tub was fabulous and the outside space great for the dog and to play with the kids. The cleanliness of the property was ok but I do think it would benefit from a deep clean. We also had issues with two of the showers not draining well. Overall we had a lovely time. Thank you
Good holiday rental, expansive grounds. Grounds are shared with other rental we had good experience excellent neighbours. Surrounded by wheat fields but sound of A50 & railway nearby make it not quite rural
It was perfect for what we needed as a group of four different families, with children of different ages. Lots of bedrooms & bathrooms, big lounge and a dining area that seated all the group. The outside space is great, with a nice seating area and large lawn, perfect for our Rounders game. We had a few technical issues with the hot tube, but the caretaker was quick to react to our issues. Tennis courts were a hit with our group. A perfect base and suited our needs.
Lovely large house with plenty of room for our party of 10. Well equipped kitchen and good sized rooms so there was plenty of space for all concerned. The dog loved the outside space too. The hot tub was a great success and the welcome pack of Samosas were superb. Thank you for a wonderful week.
Chelsea
Such a beautiful cottage and a perfect place to unwind. The owner and caretaker were friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The kitchen was well equipped and the samosas we were greeted with were so tasty. Theres a western town on site and my family enjoyed visiting it! The hot tub was perfect and used everyday. Bedrooms were spacious and bathrooms were clean. We would definitely stay here again! Our 3 dogs loved the field. Plenty of outside seating to enjoy the bbq! Thank you for such a nice week!
Louise
We had a lovely stay here. Plenty of room for all of us. Beds were comfortable and it was well equipped. Samosas were divine, the best we've had and were enjoyed by all. We felt the property could do with a little TLC in places. Simple things like a replacement blind for the upstairs double room, new bulbs in several lamps. Tony and Tom are both very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.
Pamela
Lovely location. large house with a well equipped Kitchen. Tom the owner and Tony the manager were very helpful and only a mobile text away if needed. We were welcomed with a lovely tray of food which we all enjoyed. Comfy beds Two kettles, stoves, toasters and fridge freezers made life easier to cater for the 13 of us and 2 dogs. Large table which we could all seat round comfortably to eat and a large lounge Everyone enjoyed the hot tub only drawback of the house was the wi fi which works but is basic.
We were a large family group and had a great weekend. Plenty of space for all and everywhere was clean. The host was responsive to phone calls and we had an unexpected welcome gift of freshly made samosas a nice touch thank you. Our only complaints would be the very slow wifi and the lack of any facility to make fresh coffee no machine or cafetire was provided. Other than that the place was very well equipped.
Clean, tidy and great setting.
Angela
This was an excellent place to stay with my young family, I think it wouldve been even better in the summertime, which I will have to consider coming back again with them all. I have to say Tom and Tony were very helpful in many ways, especially Tom with the fabulous samosas, freshly made when we arrived! I honestly feel like asking him for the recipe, that was very thoughtful of him to do that. They were always available for any issues that we needed to address. I will highly recommend this place as a excellent place to go with children, as lots of bedrooms, the mattresses upstairs possibly need to be replaced and we certainly need the lights in the hot tub area looked at, there was an issue with a leak coming in the conservatory top window, but as we were there in very stormy weather, we understood that this could happen, very very satisfied, as all I wanted to do was get together with my very young family I would definitely stay again, kind regards Angela.
Very spacious. The shops are not too far. We had a great time and kids really enjoyed especially with the big field for them to run about
Ideal property for our family get together, lots of space and so good to have 3 ovens and 2 fridgefreezers. Lovely big table for our family meals. A warm welcome and a very helpful caretaker on hand to answer our questions. We would be happy to return.
Hayley
Great place and location. We were welcomed with freshly cooked samosas that were delicious. We were given all relevant information and every time I asked questions or had queries nothing was a bother. The spa was lovely. The view is just fields. In summer it would be great to be outside and have a bbq but for Autumn it was lovely to be in the dining area for our hen do. Perfect size for 12 of us we had a few cancellations . Not far from Derby town centre by taxi. There is a fun western town there as well.
Jeremy
Fantastic stay, the owner is a great guy and makes you feel welcome. The cost out weighs the tiredness of the lodge, saying that it didn't spoil our stay. On sight is the most amazing Western Town which is mind blowing to say the least and Tom and Tony welcome you to walk round and share their passion for this unique step back in time. Location is very good and the facilities are very good. Great stay and we would definitely return.
