The Lodge at Wildersley Farm Reviews

Gillian
We had a very enjoyable time during our week at the Lodge and appreciated being able to contact the owners if and when necessary. The welcome wine among other gifts were more than welcome after our journey of over 1,000 km. The lodge is situated in the peaceful countryside of Belper and is accessed by a public footpathtrack about 600m long. We had no problem driving up. Visibility is good and there are a few passing points. The key is to drive slowly. The description on the Sykes site is accurate. Unfortunately, the damage done by tenants in 2024 review by Hasan are apparent, such as a cracked window, torn wallpaper, ripped flooring and broken blinds not possible to close the blinds in the dining area at night which made you feel exposed at nightfall. Cleanliness We found the lodge to be in general very clean, especially the bathrooms, bedrooms, dining and living area. However, all windows were grimy, the oven was greasy, and we found a drawer of greasy cooking trays in the kitchen. The freezer was in desperate need of defrosting it was almost impossible to open the draws. Such details are such a pity since it really let the side down. Upon arrival we had problems opening the key box. The release button didnt work, but we eventually managed to gently prise it open using a fingernail. I must admit we were very tired after our long journey! The lodge is comfortable, especially since we were only two people. Although the Lodge sleeps 7, the dining table only seats 6 and the settee only 4 5 at a squash plus a chair. The television is rather small, but the availability of Netflix included was a bonus. There are far too many cheap ornaments cluttering the place which makes it look tacky. The kitchen is wellequipped. The big fridge was greatly appreciated. The goodquality kitchen knives were very blunt, so we had to purchase a knife steel to sharpen them to use them safely. The washing machine dryer and oven were of good quality but not easy to use at a glance. A user pamphlet for the washing machine dryer would have been helpful instead of having to search the internet. We only used the onsuite bedroom. There is a dressing room between the kitchen leading to this bedroom which is useful. However, there is no hanging space for clothes, despite the space and it needs renovating. The bed in the main bedroom was comfortable, but a second bedside table and lamp is lacking. There is a large hanging rail next to the bed, which would have better if it had a curtain or sliding doors. The onsuite shower room was very small and lacked heating. There was nowhere to hang towels or bathrobes. We found the evacuation of the spacious shower partially blocked and were worried that water would overflow onto the floor. The main bathroom did have hanging hooks for a couple of towels and bathrobes but also had no heating. The water pressure throughout the Lodge is very strong, you have to be careful otherwise water sprays everywhere. The towels and toiletries, as well as the bathrobes and slippers were of good quality and greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the outside area very much, however, there is only a small table with a very unstable bench and two rickety armchairs outside so impossible to eat outside. The spa was appreciated however, we saw no one to come and service it as mentioned in the welcome book, and the sharp pebble surround made it painful when getting in and out. We had the impression that the spa lacked water since the water was barely above the water spouts and we could see a tide mark at a higher level. We didnt have any additional towels for outside so used some from one of the other bedrooms. There are two dilapidated sun loungers which we didnt dare use, and the bare breeze block wall surround was very unattractive to say the least. The view though the windowless gaps in the breeze block wall was very nice. All in all, the lodge was comfortable but more attention to detail needs to be paid, especially when compared to the rental properties next door.
Sabrina
The lodge was absolutely amazing you had everything you needed and more . The little touches like robes, slippers and welcome treats were a lovely touch . The lodge and surroundings were stunning we loved our stay thank you
Rebecca
Second time we have stayed here and was just as perfect as the first. The lodge is very clean and well stocked but some wear and tear noted. The road was not as bumpy as previously and parking is ample. Only downside is there arent enough chairs for the dining room table for all 8 guests.
Suzanne
Lovely place to stay the owners were so helpful and friendly. Hot tub well maintained and had everything we needed. We love the big garden and seating area. Thank you
Alexina
We had such a lovely weekend here, the property had everything we needed, was very well equipped and has lovely decor throughout. The location is beautiful and so peaceful. Owners communicated with us throughout. We were a little nervous regarding the access road to the property due to reading previous reviews and none of us have large SUV style cars however, it was fine as long as you drive sensibly. Overall, we had a lovely time and will definitely be returning!
Benjamin
The lodge was brilliant, we came over to visit family for our granddaughters first Christmas. We had plenty of room for the 6 of us and her. We had brought over our own Christmas tree to put up and was surprised to see that they had already put one up for us. Thank you sooo much. The family made good use of the hot tub, which was very clean and treated daily by the facility manager you wouldnt know he had been unless you looked out for them. Kitchen was very well appointed. Beds were super comfy, towels and dressing gowns were brilliant. Over all the place was amazing. Will definitely return
Patricia
The road to the property is quite tricky, my car had no problems but my friends scraped underneath most of the track, we had a cab one day and we had to get out and walk as the car was struggling to get down the lane, the property itself was nice, warm, well equipped, big hot tub which was lovely, the area round the hot tub could be nicer as it's just bare concrete block walls, a friendly welcome but sadly lots of cobwebs, it's a lovely location, would definitely come back if the property was refurbished to the standard of the other 2 properties on site which are stunning !
Sharron
Lovely stay. Well appointed accommodation in a beautiful location.
Rebecca
Wonderful stay. The lodge is clean and tidy. Has a large number of kitchen supplies. Towels for the bathroom supplied and bath robes too. Wed received a message to say there was hot tub towels but found out this was incorrect. Ami kindly however supplied some for us when we explained. The private road to the property is very bumpy with pot holes. Not great for low cars. However a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

Great size rooms, really comfy beds and very private. Loved the small touches like the late check out, bottle of wine and bag of crisps that were provided. The cot and high chair provided for my baby were excellent quality and he slept really well which is great as he can be quite fussy. Rooms were really clean and great facilities, a large fridge and separate large freezer were very welcome. Great location for walking into Belper. The grounds around the lodge were lovely, with sun loungers provided and a cute seating area. Possibly could have done with a little more infoinstructions on how to work the shower in the main bathroom, the oven and the tumble dryer as these were quite fancy and we struggled to get them to work. Overall a fantastic stay and perfect for our needs.
Victoria
Thank you it was fantastic. The hot tub was a much needed treat after our 13mile charity walk for Dementia. The welcome gift of milk snacks and of course a lovely bottle of wine, was a lovely touch. The wine went down very nicely too thank you. I would recommend and I would stay with you again. Thank you see you soon.

The property is in a pretty setting off the beaten track. The Maintenance Manager, Steve, is an absolute gem and couldnt have been more helpful. A very relaxing few days.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Horrible owners, take pictures of everything before and after your arrivaldeparture as the owner will accuse you of random damage. There was also a horrible dirt track leading straight to the communal garden of the lodge, around 1km in distance which was not communicated and completely messed up the bottom of ours cars over 1k damage. Not the best facilities and lodge looks a lot smaller than shown in pictures. Not enough dustbins for a communal space so plenty of litter smell in surrounding areas. Not the finest of experiences. Would not recommend!
Paulina
The place is lovely and worth its price. Me and my friends spent a best weekend in our lives there. I will defenitely come back. Highly recommend
Hannah
We booked for my sister's 30th and we all had great time! We would definitely book again!! Thank you for such a fab weekend! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the outdoor space was brilliant! Perfectly placed in the countryside for peaceful and relaxing stay!
We had a really lovely weekend at Wildersley Farm Lodge. I think the photos do not do it justice as it is quite secluded up a farm track so it feels private, even though you are in the farm area. The owner Ami text me prior to coming, so they felt very approachable for questions which I appreciated. The Lodge is very well equipped and there were already some supplies there tea, coffee, bin bags, cleaning bits so even the items we might've forgotten were covered. Our children were able to play on the safe space of grass at the front of the Lodge, which in turn was relaxing for us! We had a BBQ on the grill and the hot tub was fun. They'd even thought of the dog because they have things like the stable door, a dog peg for outside and wall hooks while in the hot tub. Everyone left feeling like they'd had a wonderful weekend, thank you for your hospitality!
Veronika
This place has outdone our expectations! We knew we were down for a treat and were not disappointed upon arrival. The lodge is 100 equipped to anyones needs. Enquiries were answered to immediately. A mix of modern yet surprisingly old school feel. Every detail has been considered! Kids loved the outdoor space. Definitely will be visiting again. The only thing Id say that I've missed probably is neighbours. The photos made us think it is secluded from other lodges but turned out there are more nonetheless it did not affect our stay. Thank you for a lovely weekend away
Excellent facilities. Lovely stay in a nicely presented lodge.
