Return from your successful adventures and glide across oak floors into the open-plan living space of your new haven. Toast your well-trekked toes by the woodburning stove in the sitting area, while a delicious dinner cooks from a kitchen equipped with electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, kettle, and toaster.

Tuck in to your culinary creation at the dining table for ten or, when the sun follows you home, why not dine alfresco on the patio? The dishwasher volunteers for clean-up duty, so you’re free to hop in the outdoor hot tub for a warm, bubbling hug.

Rinse off in a ground-floor en-suite, shower room, or bathroom, then welcome the night in a ground-floor king-size, queen-size, or twin bed. Got some extra guests?

Part of a beautiful, 17-acre sanctuary farm, this idyllic shepherd’s hut makes a fabulous romantic retreat for couples seeking a tranquil holiday hideaway along the border of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. Offering cosy accommodation for two guests, the carriage has a welcoming wood burner, a private hot tub, and magical views towards the Black Mountains along the eastern ridge of the Brecon Beacons. With an open camp fire, beautiful wooden furnishings and resident horses, donkeys and chickens, this quirky wagon is an ideal base for wild swimming and stargazing – donkey experiences are also available by arrangement with the owner. A few steps lead up into this unique, arched-roof wagon which features a glowing wood burner, comfortable seating, a radio, a folding dining table, plenty of storage space, a small gas oven, a hob and sink. When it’s time to retire for the night there’s a lovely double bed to the rear of the hut. Outside, there’s seating on the porch, while the garden area features a camp fire, outdoor furniture and a soothing hot tub as well as a gas-powered hot shower and eco-compost toilet. You will also be welcome to explore the surrounding farmland, walk down to the waterhole for wild swimming, chat with the resident horse listener or meet the owners for private donkey picnics in the woods. The property lies in a stunning area with miles of breathtaking walks. To the south, the bustling village of Longtown is home to a friendly inn, some useful shops, and the ruins of a medieval castle. To the north you can visit Hay-on-Wye (8 miles), famed for its international literature festival and fabulous array of second-hand bookshops. Heading west, keen walkers, climbers and cyclists can explore the glorious Brecon Beacons National Park (5 miles) with its magnificent mountains, beautiful valleys, and spectacular countryside.

Inside there is a huge soft play area with a separate area for toddlers as well as ball pools, climbing frames, slides and chutes. The Cannon balls are a big hit with children of all ages. New for 2010 is the Badgers quest interactive maze. Outside there is a play area, large boating lake with paddle boats, nature trails with clues and quizzes and an agility course. At only £29.00 for a family of 4 the park offers outstanding value for money.

Queenswood Country Park has a stunning location offering panoramic views of the countryside. The area is abundant with wildlife and you can see how many species you can spot while enjoying the nature trails. The park also has a large children play area and a licensed café. Seasonal activities can be enjoyed during school holidays and at peak times of the year including Halloween events and crafting sessions as well as ranger led walks.
Puzzlewood - GL16 8QB

Puzzlewood is a somewhat unique attraction within the beautiful Forest of Dean. Visitors can explore the mile of pathways passing over wooden bridges and through some stunning tree and rock formations. The maze of pathways are quite enchanting and the site has recently been used as a location for the BBC1 production of Merlin. While enjoying the splendour of nature there are many types of wildlife to meet along the way including Shetland ponies, Donkeys and Highland Cattle. A Hocus Pokus Halloween event takes place from the 24th to the 31st of October.
