Days out couldn’t be easier, with Brampton (5 miles) containing shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and Carlisle (8 miles) brimming with cultural highlights including its racecourse, castle and museum.

A little further afield, Bowness-on-Solway (21.5 miles) marks the start of the stunning Solway Coast National Landscape. On arrival, step through the front door into a handy vestibule for wet coats and muddy boots, where you’ll also find a convenient WC.

From here, head into the spacious farmhouse-style kitchen/diner with a range cooker. This contains a large table for enjoying holiday meals together.
