The Hayloft Reviews

Lovely time spent in the Hayloft, John and his wife were very friendly and we had a wonderful time. Accommodation was lovely. Our little boy loved the farm animals. Thank you John and Mabel!
Loved the location for peace and quiet with the excellent dogwalking woods close by. Property was immaculately clean inside, great facilities and nicely furnished. Just a few details would be nice to sort crack in upper kitchen window, shower head seen better days, patio door ditto and outside table could do with debirding. But none of these dealbreakers as we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay and my son greatly enjoyed the hot tub. Would definitely return.

Really lovely cottage home from home would definitely return clean and very inviting didnt want to leave. . just a couple of easy repairs that could be done fire alarm hanging off the ceiling in dining room. Master bedroom shower hight adjuster. Radiator in dining room hanging off. But very minimal and did not affect our stay.

Absolutely wonderful, so relaxing comfortable and very cosy cottage. everything in cottage to a very high standard , Best cottage we been for a very long time. Looking forward to visiting again with a private garden area soon. As there's so much to visit in the area. loved all the planting around the patio area. please note patio for cottage is in car park for the surrounding cottages so no privacy or avoiding bad parking ,sadly
Me and my family had a lovey time at this cottage. It was so quiet and cosy. We cant wait to come back in the summer. Highlight was getting to see the farm animals up close, and sitting in front of the cosy fire in the evenings watching tv. For a small place there was plenty of storage for belongings, and it was conveniently equipped with dishwasher washing machinefirestick. Thank you so much to mabel and family x
The cottage was very clean and was well equipped. The owners were very friendly and informative. Very good location to visit other places such as Talkin Tarn, Hexham, Alston and Whitley Bay. The only discrepancy we had is that we thought that the cottage had an enclosed garden as we had 2 dogs staying with us and it would have been ideal to have an enclosed garden for them.

The Hayloft is a lovely cottage we have given it 4 stars, but with a few tweaks it would be 5. Furnishings are of a good quality, beds comfortable. Although the kitchen had plenty of pans, it was short of glasses only had a few tumblers plenty of wine glasses!!. Cups were also in short supply. Towels were too small and should have been tumble dried to make them soft. All in all, a lovely cottage and we had a great time.
Kimberley
Beautiful location, beautiful cottage and everything needed to make it home from home. Very clean, tidy, and very friendly people. Only drawback was when the spa became very frothy and scum built up on sides. However, told the owner and it was sorted immediately. Will definitely go back to this place. Had a wonderful time thank you xx

It was our first holiday as a young family and we cannot recommend enough. The property is beautiful and the location was ideal for us to be able to explore Hadrian's wall and Talkin Tarn.
Shower floor could do with a small rubber mat to be safe against potential to slip & position of shower head a little too high.
Bernice
Lovely cottage, warm, great furnishings, great situation. Only problem was the WIFI not working although the owner did her best.
Brigid
So many things to see around the area so the Hayloft was the perfect base. No internet unfortunately but kept busy with lovely places to visit.
Ideal for exploring the area. Comfortable, clean and well appointed. Owners a pleasure and to hand and this is a Working farm. Proper people.

Owners were really friendly and lovely, they showed our daughter all the farm animals and let her feed a lamb which was wonderful. Cottage is nice but fairly small and furniture is a little dated. Im glad we didnt bring our large dog as there would not have been enough space and no enclosed garden.
Stayed in the Hayloft. Loved the location, loved the property. Only things that needed improving were the very bad draughts coming through the front door and the patio doors, these are an easy fix with some draught excluder strip. But there are plenty of electric storage heaters so did not feel cold at any point. The heated towel rails didn't seem to work. Apart from these small issues, I would definitely stay here again. Did not make use of the hot tub facility as the weather was awful and I didn't fancy the walk into the farm to reach it.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The cottage was perfect for us in both location and size facilities.
Nicola
The Hayloft was very well appointed, cosy and comfortable. It is also in a good location for exploring Hadrians wall, the Lake District and North Pennines.
Property well placed and hosts very friendly. The only downside was the ensuite in the twin bedroom. Access to the washbasin very tight.
Pamela
Perfect cottage for four people and dog. Lots of interesting places to visit in area and lots of local walks to do with dog. Everything in cottage was lovely and clean Beds very comfy.
The Hayloft was very comfortable and cosy, lots of places were very accessible from this location, we had an enjoyable stay.

A fantastic cottage located ideally for good days out with beautiful scenery. Will book again. Sad to leave the property as our stay was very enjoyable.
Mabel and her husband were really welcoming and friendly. The cottage itself was ideally located for either a quiet retreat or access to the wider Cumbria region and beyond. A lovely, clean and cosy little place to stay.

Stopped with the owners about 6 years ago and when I realised they had built the new cottages I was looking forward to stopping. Great place, surrounded by walks, an hour from scotland, hour from the lakes. Just a great location and the owners are great as usual.
Natalie
This cottage is a little gem we booked it last minute we were met by Mabel when we arrived who was warm and welcoming everything was very clean and you had everything you needed within the cottage. You do need a car to visit places as the nearest shop was a couple of miles away there is 7 cottages in total some of the others have gardens which would of made our stay perfect but we did know when we booked there was no enclosed garden but this was the only available cottage for rental. It was nice and clean our dog settled straight away. Highly recommend this cottage for a break away.

The cottage was positioned for all the places we wanted to visit
Great location and perfect if you have a pet. Hot tub is to share with others and although not working fully we still used it. Only downside was we could not find any places in the evening to eat to take the dog. But we would stay again.
This is a warm and welcoming cottage, it provided all the mod cons but cleverly retained many of the original features which made it very easy to live in, and catered for everything. The owners have thought of everything and provide good quality accommodation, they are very informative about the area and made us very welcome. They even let us help with the lambing which was a pleasure. I would return to the cottage as it is perfectly located for a number of destinations all within an hour which gave us a great flavour of the area. We were able to take our dogs and this made it a great holiday Thank you
The owner was pleasant and informative on things to do in area. The property was very clean and tidy and we'll stocked. Would happily return to this cottage and happily use Sykes cottage again.
I would recommend anyone to stay here, had everything we needed, very friendly owner and perfect for exploring the area. The discription of the place on booking.com says no parking there is a parking space smack right in front of it ! It was lovely and perfect for us and I would happily stay there again!
Spotlessly clean warm and well equipped cottage.

Beautiful, well equipped cottage, helpful owners.
Another lovely stay at this wonderful cottage. Everything exactly as advertised and so much more! The owners are great and very helpful and the hot tub is a lovely extra! We will definately be rebooking.
The cottage was exactly as described with many little extras. The owners were very helpful and pleasant and the cottage extremely clean and very comfortable. The hot tub was a very welcome addition. Will definitely be re booking this cottage in the near future

The owners where some of the best we have met. We wish them every success.
Was a oneoff holiday when I visited the uk from Australia so prob wouldn't rebook but not due to anything lacking! The property was perfect. Was very convenient to taking off on day drives which is what we wanted to do but prob not if you wanted to walk from the property anywhere. This didn't worry us as we were happy to take off each day. The property was above & beyond our expectations with a full kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Beautiful leather lounge suite and a massage chair ... Everything vey thoughtfully considered. Downstairs toilet a very handy extra as both upstairs bedrooms were en suite.

Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 10 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 18 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 27 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 29 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
