With relaxing river views and plenty to explore right on site, this four-bedroom home is a wonderful option for a group holiday with friends and family. It’s on the Hermitage Estate in Halton, Lancashire, tucked within the meanders of the River Lune.
From most windows you can view the water and Otter Island, creating a lovely sense of space and calm. Take packed lunches and enjoy a laid-back feast at Crook O’Lune Picnic Site (75 metres), then stroll through the idyllic Gresgarth Hall Gardens (1.5 miles) with its pond, orchards and wildlife-rich grounds.
For outdoor pursuits, go on horse rides with panoramic Lake District views at the local equitation centre (3 miles). In Lancaster, there’s also a climbing centre (7 miles) with 700 square metres of varied climbing walls, or you can or dive into local heritage at Lancaster Castle (6 miles) and the Lancaster Maritime Museum (6.5 metres).
On arrival at this wow-factor property, step through the front door into a welcoming hallway, where the games room sits to the right, complete with arcade games, comfy sofas and a Smart TV for relaxed evenings – a sure hit with young visitors. Just off this space is a twin bedroom with TV and en-suite shower room, alongside a delightful double bedroom and a handy downstairs WC.
To the rear, the open-plan kitchen and dining area is well equipped and sociable, with patio doors overlooking the courtyard. A cosy snug with plush leather seating offers a quieter retreat.
Ahead of the stairs, the lounge makes the most of the views with balcony access and a terrace furnished for relaxing. Also on this level is the impressive master king-size four-poster bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, desk and en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath, which also links to the patio.
This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
