Meadow Syke Barn Reviews

Lauren
We had such a lovely stay. Ruth was very welcoming and helpful throughout. The accommodation was very cosy and such a great spot for dogs they loved the enclosed fields. We also loved using the hot tub and all the little extras Ruth left out. We did have an issue with a bad smell in the upstairs bathroom for the first day or so but I think this was just due to the septic tanks. Once wed used the shower a few times it cleared. Otherwise a brilliant stay in a great spot, we would definitely book again! Also highly recommend the Mardale Inn for food and a drink. Thanks for having us!

We had a lovely relaxing holiday with our dog Maisie. A beautiful barn clean and had everything we needed. The hot tub was wonderful. Having to pay the extra 60 pounds for it is a bit harsh as it was quite expensive to book but we were willing to pay and loved our time in it. The heating and lights were sometimes a little dodgy. They would go off on come back on. We just put it down to a ghost. We were sometimes cold on the evening as the heating would come on late but always red hot on a morning. Ruth the owner did show us how to use the heating but it's maybe on a timer. The beds so comfortable the shower was fantastic. The outside area fieldswere brilliant for Maisie our dog. She loved to run free in the huge area. Stunning views so peaceful. A great relaxing holiday with plenty of places to visit. Thankyou Ruth
Christmas was amazing, we had the barn for chrustmas week and i can say Ruth was amazing from start to finish. The property was clean fitted with all facilities and comfort levels surpassed our expecations, this was truly a magical place and so perfect in fact concluded that in 2026 myself and my partner will be making a move to the lakes. This place is not to be missed and is truly exceptional in any form, and again thank you to Ruth for making that all the more special and perfect, we will be back! Adam & Lucy

Beautiful place, very modern and clean. Loved the secure fields for the dog! Beds were comfy, shower was great and hot tub was fantastic. The only points to improve was it maybe needed another couch or comfy chair for the lounge and some additional outdoor lighting out the back. Some string lights would be great or some down the fence line? Oh and a dry box for towels etc near the hot tub. All in all, fantastic and would stay again for sure.
Beautiful property in a stunning location, and the field for the dogs was a big bonus. Ruth gave us a lovely warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We loved it!
Everything was just amazing from start to finish. Ruth was the utmost gracious host and explained where everything was. The cottage was just beautiful! There was nothing we would change and it had everything we needed. The hot tub is definitely a must! It was also quiet and highlighted nature at its best. Would love to return in the future.
Had a fantastic stay. The host is lovely and met us at the barn. Nothing was to much trouble for her. Hot tub was massive, barn had everything you need to a comfy stay, zero phone signal as its that remote but very good Internet so still connected and some lovely walks both from the barn or close by in car. Can't knock the place

We loved this cottage. Ruth the owner greeted us upon arrival which is always appreciated. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and very well equipped with the added benefit of a dog shower and EV charging point which was extremely useful. The location was peaceful and fully met all our requirements. Highly recommended.
Fantastic accommodation, beautiful outlook and very friendly welcome from Ruth.
Meadow Syke Barn is unique, full of character, the views are amazing and the hot tub, situated on the very secluded patio is a wonderful way to relax after a day out. The local area is of course a delight. Thank you Ruth and little grandson Liam for calling in to make sure we were fine.
Had a fantastic stay at Meadow Syke Barn. Ruth the host was very helpful on arrival and was on hand if needed throughout the stay. The barn is in a beautiful and peaceful place, and just a short walk to a great community run pub, shopcafe. There was everything you needed in the barn. A well equipped kitchen, great shower, the dog washing shower was a great touch too, and plenty of fields for them to explore. And to top it off the hot tub is amazing, great for watching the bats at dusk and for spotting red squirrels. Lots of lovely local walks and a great location to explore all the lakes. Highly recommend this property 5
Claire
Fantastic accommodation in beautiful and peaceful surroundings with a lovely sized hot tub after our hikes! Thanks to Ruth for the hospitality and advice on local walks. Highly recommended as a quiet haven in the Lakes, sad to leave after such a relaxing holiday!
The property is set in a little village, away from any main roads. It is exceptionally peaceful and very beautiful. We were warmly welcomed by Ruth. The property was very clean and had all of the things we needed for our stay. The use of car charging, washing facilities, including dog wash was an added bonus. The location is great, we were able to travel to lots of different locations with ease. The hot tub after a long day walking was much needed and set with the most stunning views across the countryside. There are 2 large bedrooms with their own bathrooms so lots of space for a small family. The local community pub is a must!

We enjoyed a wonderful 3 night stay, myself, my partner, my mother and our 1 year old Labrador. Ruth met us at the property and gave us a tour which was so lovely, the barn is beautiful, well set out and very clean and comfortable! The property was perfect for my mother who has low mobility so she had the ground floor bedroom and we had the bedroom upstairs. All equipped with walk in showers and even a dog wash facility in the utility room next door! There is a fully enclosed field about 10 steps away from the front door which our labrador thoroughly enjoyed and we especially loved the hot tub in the garden! A very welcome experience after the rainy days! We would absolutely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

A Wonderful Stay at Meadow Syke Barn! We had such a fantastic stay at Meadow Syke Barn and were warmly welcomed by Ruth, who gave us a lovely tour of the property. The barn itself is beautifulspacious, spotless, and very thoughtfully equipped. It was ideal for our us, especially my wife's mother with limited mobility, thanks to the comfortable ground floor bedroom and walkin shower. The setting is peaceful and scenic, with picturesque views all around and a large secure patio garden, perfect for relaxing and admiring the views. We didn't make use of the hot tub, but there is one located on the patio if required. The barn had everything we needed a wellequipped kitchen with thoughtful extras like coffee pods, tea, milk, biscuits, wine, and even toiletries and towels. We is also a reasonably priced EV charging point onsite. Ruth was amazingfriendly, helpful, and if needed only a phone call away. Her communication before and during our visit was excellent, and she truly made us feel at home. We also enjoyed a meal at the local pub The Mardale Inn ensure you book a table in advance and visited nearby Lowther Castle & Gardens and Larch Cottage Nurseries, about 20 minutes away. All in all, we had a fantastic 4 days and would 100 recommend Meadow Syke Barn for a base to visit the Lake District. We would definitely come back!

We were welcomed to the property on arrival by Ruth. She told us everything we needed to know. We had one issue that occurred during our stay but she was VERY quick at sorting it out. We will 100 be back!! It is a beautiful cottage with picturesque views all around. Perfect for some down time and time to relax. The hot tub just tops it off! No matter what the weather. As for location its a short journey away from local attractions.
Meadow Syke Barn is a truly amazing, very dog friendly and peaceful retreat that is well positioned to see lots of the major sights in the Lake District. Clean and spacious with a secure large patio garden for your dog. Added bonus of an optional hot tub to soak in after a day of hiking. The accommodation is well equipped, all you could need in the kitchen with thoughtful touches of tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, wine and milk available when you arrive. Comfortable beds and great bathrooms. Very reasonably priced electric car charging on site was really handy. What was truly outstanding was the friendly, welcoming nature of Ruth, the owner. Excellent communication before arrival, friendly welcome on arrival and available during your stay if you needed her. We would highly recommend Meadow Syke Barn and would stay again if ever in the area in the future. Thank you Ruth for a great holiday!
Ruth was very accommodating she met us on arrival and showed us round. They own the fields adjacent which was brilliant for the dog to have a run about. The cottage was clean, comfortable and Ruth had gone out of her way to provide extras like coffee pods, milk, bottle of wine, mini toiletries, bowls and towels for the dog. Fantastic stay definitely going again.
We had a really lovely weeks stay at the barn, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and amazing showers. Its lovely and peaceful and the views from the barn and the hot tub are amazing! We enjoyed a walk to the local pub, the Marsdale Inn and thoroughly enjoyed Pooley Bridge which is about 20 minutes away.
We loved the setting for Meadow Syke Barn next to the sheep and it was a great location for getting to some of the key sights of the Lake District! We enjoyed the hot tub despite the variable weather and the property had everything we needed. Thanks to Ruth!
We had a wonderful week at Meadow Syke Barn where we met up with old friends. The accommodation in this recently converted barn is delightful, very modern and tastefully done with the best of furniture and equipment. The host, Ruth, could not have been nicer and more helpful. The location is perfect quiet but only a stone's throw from the Lakes. Would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.
Rachel
Absolutely wonderful stay! The property is fantastic and has everything you need. The owners are great and very accommodating.
Fantastic cottage and could not recommend enough. The host was fantastic and gave us a tour upon arrival never had that anywhere before, and the property was very well kept with lovely modern features. Finally the views were incredible during the day and at night we were able to sit in the hot tub and watch the stars We definitely plan on returning!
Robert
Simply wonderful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the property has had so much care, love and attention input it definitely shows. The hot tub is a fabulous addition. Looking forward to a return visit.
Christina
My Wife and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Meadow Syke Barn and the entire stay was fantastic, we will certainly be returning. A great added bonus with the underfloor heating!
Beautiful property, so clean and comfortable. The hot tub is HUGE too. Really nice spot to stay.
Charlotte
Beautiful property. Ruth was very helpful. The cottage had everything we needed and the use of washing facilities alongside an electric car charging point on site was super helpful. Would absolutely stay here again.
Lovely host Ruth, who greeted us on arrival and was available if we needed anything. Amazing property. Clean and spotless. Great secure garden so our dog could roam freely. The hot tub was amazing. The underfloor heating was a lovely touch. The only negative we had but wouldnt stop us booking again is there is very limited storage in the kitchen. So after we had a weeks worth of food delivery it was difficult to store it all. Next time we would just have 2 separate food deliveries in the week. Also there is very limited clothing storage. We managed as just the 2 of us staying, but would have struggled with 4 people staying. Again this wouldnt stop us booking again. Would say more suited to 2 people rather than 4 if staying longer than 23 nights. Only a 10minute walk to the local pub. Lovely staff, food and drink brilliant. Highly recommend and we aim to return in the future.

Perfect Girls Getaway in the Lake District We stayed at this beautifully refurbished, modern farmbased rental for a girls trip in January, and it couldnt have been better! The place was spotless, cosy, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The hot tub was an absolute highlightperfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Despite being January, we were lucky with the weather, which made the stunning scenery even more enjoyable. The location was idealso close to local hiking trails, making it easy to get out and explore. Plus, there was a fantastic communityrun pub just a short walk away, where we had an amazing meal and enjoyed a great selection of wines. The hosts were really friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. A perfect mix of comfort, character, and local charmwed definitely book again!
We had an amazing time here, the host Ruth was so lovely checking we had everything we needed. The accommodation was so cosy and spotless. Our dogs Winnie and Tilly loved the fields to run around in . This accommodation was in the perfect spot for relaxing but was within very easy reach of beautiful places to visit . Tracy & Andy

Ruth the owner was amazing so friendly and had the place immaculate for us when we turned. The accommodation was really comfortable and the hot tub in the winter snow was amazing. The views were stunning and there are lots to do in the near area. We would definitely book again.
Beautiful converted barn. Beds were super comfy. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful. Would highly recommend

We had a lovely stay thank you. As everyone else says the barn is just stunning and has everything you need. Incredibly clean and cosy. Absolutely wonderful.
Owners we great and friendly, couldn't fault the property, perfect place to relax and destress
It was only a short stay, but it was a fantastic one. Ruth met us at the location and showed us around. The place is just lovely. Some fantastic views enjoyed quite a few times from inside the beautifully clean hot tub! The barn has everything you'd need. We're quite a techy family, so the fast internet was perfect I believe it's Starlink. Usually in more rural locations the internet can be a bit sketchy, not here! Full coverage wifi all around the property too. We always take our firestick away with us, so netflix etc all worked seamlessly. Everything was clean and high quality within the property too. Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and full size fridge all adding to the home comforts. The location was great for visiting surrounding lakes... and the local pub only a short walk away though, it was quite dark so we drove in the evening. Next time we're in the Lakes, we'll definitely be looking to book Meadow Syke Barn again.
Absolutely lovely, Ruth was very friendly and so were other members of the family we met. The under floor heating was fab, but fortunately we didnt need it. Location was so quiet and excellent for our 3 year old chocolate labourers first holiday, she loved the open space, enclosed fields and amazing walks, even joined a local chap and his dog on a walk. Enjoyed an evening meal at the Mardale Inn, fab and staff lovely. Pooley Bridge only 20 minutes away, had a lovely lunch by the riverside. If you want a lovely break at a 5 star barn then, this is the place , the hot tub and enclosed patio area are fab. We will defiantly book again.

We stayed at Meadow Syke Cottage for one week as a family of four. The Cottage is really beautiful and was immaculately clean. We enjoyed the outdoor space, the lovely views and our children particularly loved the hot tub. Ruth was such a great host, and provided us with some helpful tips for days out, especially when it was raining! We would love to return in the future thanks for a great week
The host couldn't have been more welcoming. Wish I'd known that cleaning products had been included..would have had more room in the car asi brought my own ! The accommodation was a home from home comfy beds.excellent facilities. Ruth was a wealth of knowledge of area and gave us great recommendations of whereabouts to eat, attractions etc. I would highly recommend staying at Meadow Skye Barn .
Tracey
The cottage was clean, came well equipped and is in an incredibly tranquil setting. The hot tub absolutely made our week.

Wonderful stay in wonderful renovated barn. Host Ruth is very welcoming and will make sure you have all you need during your stay. We had a lovely time looking forward to the calm of the barn after busy days sightseeing around the lakes. During the very busy summer season it was a blessing coming back to the relaxing barn and great hot tub for evening relaxation. Highly recommended for short to longer stay.

Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 20 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 24 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 25 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
