12 Horizon View Reviews

We booked 12 Horizon View some months before travel and then noticed in October someone had left a scathing review on the property and wondered what we would find when we finally arrived. We were notified of the codes and check in information in plenty of time, and on arrival were greeted by Reception and advised how to access the lodge. First impressions were good, the landscaping of the site is very well kept and there was easily parking for 2 cars with a stunning view from the lodge looking across the valley towards Liskeard. Unlike airbnb's these days where there is usually some milk, bread and cleaning products supplied, you do get the basics to start you off such as washing up liquid and a few tea bags but nothing else excluding amenities kit in the bathroom, this is self catering after all. There is a very well stocked Spa just up the road in Dobwalls which I would recommend initially popping in to get your essentials, rather than drag further a field. Once unpacked and settled we did notice that there were some issues, but this was clearly an older lodge and not new. In short a few loose cupboard doors that did not openshut properly but were secure and did not appear in any way dangerous, with some very minor paint flaking around one of the rooms, the coffee machine was missing in the kitchen and the tv had previously been disconnected by someone presumably using their own streaming kit but easily reconnected we raised this to Reception for information only and they did kindly offer to fix them, however, given they were minor we opted to just leave everything as it was. Now, this is being very picky and if that would put you off then fair enough, however, when our extended family, who were local, popped in for a nose they did not notice any of this and thought it was a lovely location and lodge. For what we needed it was not an issue and overall this did not detract from us enjoying our stay. We did not expect 5 accommodation due to previous review but then we also didn't pay what I would consider a 5 price either. Considering the view, the amenities and that electricity, heating and wifi is included, the cost seemed very fair for the weeks stay over the holiday period and the property was perfect for the 4 of us plus our furry friend. If you have an older dog it might be worth taking a carpet runner with you as it can be quite slippery in the lounge area for them. After a minor mishap with toothpaste in our luggage, the inclusion of a washerdryer in the lodge was also welcome. The hot tub was also ready for use and perfect to enjoy an evening under the stars. We have noticed that the lodge has now been removed from rent so it would seem the ownersite manager has opted to renovate for the next season following our comments to them andor the previous review. Irrespective, would we stay here again definitely.
The most disappointing break I've ever had. The mattress in the bedroom was like concrete floor covering Chipped. Bouncy floor in long hallway. No coffee machine
We have had a great stay. The lodge is very clean, spacious and has an amazing view. The hot tub was lovely and there is lots of space for parking. Check in was easy and all staff are so lovely and helpful. We did have a problem with the tv when we first arrived but this was very quickly sorted by a staff member. We did find it confusing on arrival as google maps took us through the back gate which is what you approach first when going down the lane. We got given a few little extras with the lodge but unfortunately no hand soap. The area of Dobwalls doesnt really have much in it so if wanting to go places it does require a bit of travelling. Overall an amazing stay! Would definitely recommend this to others.

Absolutely beautiful lodge! It was our first time in Cornwall and we definitely had the weather for it. The lodge was well equipped for everything we needed. If youre going during hot weather Id really recommend taking a fan with you. It gets really really hot in the warmer weather. Well definitely be back if it hasnt sold by our next visit! Thank you!!

Darren
We never normally return to the same place twice, but this is our 4th time staying at Southern Halt. First time at 12HV though and it did not disappoint, in fact we have already booked number12 for next year. What a lovely clean and modern place to stay with a great view across the valley and the hot tub star gazing is a treat.
12 Horizon View is one of the earliest lodges erected at Southern Halt. Nevertheless it has been well maintained as is in a great location with stunning views. We have stayed in a number of different lodges at Southern Halt and this has become our new favourite.

Everything great except the weather

Unfortunately there was an issue with this lodge and I was unable to stay in it. However I will say the site at Southern Halt contacted me immediately to arrange for alternative accommodation. So I am unable to comment on this particular lodge, however the standard of housekeeping and site maintenance is exceptional.

The property was in a lovely location and the views were amazing and the it was so peacefully watching the wild life through the windows. The property its self was lovely and clean and spacious and i would visit again in the near future.
The lodge is lovely but in places looking a bit tired. It has pretty much everything you need for your stay. The main thing g that let it down is the flooring in the en suite, main bathroom & kitchen living area. The ensuite had a fausty smell about it due to the water getting in under the flooring .plus it doesn't look nice. It would be nice to have some sort of blind at the main door as it is visible from the neighbouring lodge. A shaving light over mirrors would be nice plus hand basins very small & you end up with water on the floor after washing. When we spoke to Tracey in reception about a couple of things, she acted promptly to put them right & was generally very helpful. Having stayed at Southern Halt before we feel that the lodges need a bit of tlc. The grounds are well kept & it looks welcoming on arrival.

Always love staying at southern halt , loved our stay again . Great views and great lodge . Martha was very helpful, and kids loved their Easter eggs that was a great touch . Only thing would say on this particular lodge is garden furniture was all broken we didnt have weather to use it anyway , and one thing that always crosses my mind but has no bearing on me staying is like a wind out canopy over the hot tubs so they can be used in the rain also . Cant wait to come back next year .
A great property, we had a really comfortable week despite being really unlucky with the weather. The views are spectacular, everything was spotlessly clean, well appointed and maintained. The hot tub turned out to be the perfect rainy day activity for relaxation. We hadnt left the site before I rebooked a return trip. A shout out to the super friendly team who checked we had everything we needed, were on hand with recommendations and were available in case of emergencies. Couldnt fault this property and look forward to our return.
Michelle
A wonderful stay in a well maintained property. Would highly recommend
Natasha
The property was absolutely beautiful! Really spacious, well looked after! We loved our week there! Only feedback would be to upgrade the hoover as we couldn't clean up properly as it didn't pick much up and a sweeping brush

The lodge itself is lovely, the gardens, car park and hot tub are all totally great. And the amenities in the kitchen and bathroom are really great. The location is scenic and close to some amazing places that we had some great experiences at. Wed absolutely return to Cornwall. But We found issues with a few things in the lodge, a the bathrooms could have been cleaner. b the amount of toilet rolls left was inadequate and no nespresso pods for a machine in the kitchen. If you didnt want to leave and go find a Morrisons straight away youd struggle after the first night. However we could overlook all this and recommend until the cows come home, if the next section hadnt happened. We had some strange experiences. Noises at night on the decking 3am!! Every night lights that didnt actually work bedside turning on by themselves, drawers opening, TV lights flashing, things going missing, and a child saying helloit was all very strange. And not something weve experienced before! The area used to be a theme park and were not sure if something sinister has happened We truly think that the lodge should be cleansed?
Our stay here was fantastic. It was in a great location and easy access to a lot of activities in the area. The lodge itself was immaculate, very open and had everything we needed to stay for the week. The hot tub was also very clean and well maintained! The outside grounds were beautiful, to which my children spent a lot of time outside enjoying them. The only thing I would say, which isn't within the owner's control, is that there were a few dogs wondering around on their own and had unfortunately pooed right in front of our lodge, and my son stepped in it with bare feet whilst he was playing cricket. And on another 2 occasions, dogs had actually come into the lodge on their own, no owner present, which scared my little boy. This didn't impact on our holiday what so ever though, and we will definitely be returning. Thankyou for a lovely family holiday!
This is a lovely property with fantastic views. One of the reasons we chose this property was because of the hot tub and this didn't disappoint. It was a really nice surprise to have fresh milk in the fridge ready for our arrival and a few sachets of coffeetea and sugar. Just what we needed after a long journey. The property was nice and clean. The four poster bed was very comfortable. If we had to find fault with anything it would be that the shower in our ensuite was very slow draining and you did feel like you were stood in a pool while showering but that was the only issue we had. We loved our stay at 12 Horizon view and will definitely return again and most certainly recommend it to others.
