Amble along the adjacent pier wall for a breathtaking view of the famous clock tower. Just beyond, Porthleven Beach extends 3 miles to the sand and shingle Looe Bar, which separates Cornwall’s largest natural freshwater lake from the sea.

Both Looe Pool and the bar are part of the National Trust’s Penrose Estate, where 17 miles of paths and multi-use trails wind through woodland, plantation and parkland. For excursions further afield, mesmerising St Michael’s Mount is just off the shoreline of Marazion (9 miles), and Lizard Point (14 miles) is one of the county’s most iconic landmarks.
