For a dose of heritage, the Wheal Martyn Clay Works ( 3.5 miles) dives into Cornwall’s china clay mining past, with walking paths around old clay pits and a cafe to recharge. You can also enjoy a peaceful walk to Menacuddle Well (5 miles), tucked away in woodland – it’s a historic holy well with a calming atmosphere.

Pull up in the private parking area (there’s room for two cars) and step inside this elegant home. Inside, you’ll be welcomed by an exceptionally chic open-plan kitchen/dining area with bi-fold doors that open out into the garden.

Make your way to one of the cottage’s two bohemian-chic lounges – a great feature for multigenerational groups who want to give the kids their own space, one of which has a wood burner set in a stylish stone fireplace. When it’s time to eat, head to the kitchen area and whip up some dinner to share at the farmhouse-style dining table beneath the raftered wooden ceiling.

A skylight floods the entire space with natural daylight. At the end of the day, there are four king-size bedrooms to choose from.

The Eden Project is a fantastic local attraction in Cornwall which will appeal to families and couples.  From the moment you step through the entrance it's clear that this is no ordinary attraction.  All under one roof you will find a giant rainforest, Horticulture courses, rock climbing, ice skating and an arts cafe.  Not all of these activities are on at one time, they are staggered throughout the year so check out the website to see what's available when you plan to visit.  Autumn at Eden is very popular with events such as daily apple pressing and Time Changing Tales (story telling with an autumn theme).
