Pen Y Banc Reviews

Lovely views for a restful break, well equipped and spacious accommodation, friendly host
We stayed at the property as a group of familyfriends to celebrate a birthday. We were all pleasantly surprised by how spacious the property was. It was really easy to sit and socialise together which was really important to us. The bedroom set up worked really well for us and the number of bathrooms in the property was a real bonus. The kitchen was lovely and spacious with plenty of cupboard space and a large fridge freezer. I felt the property was well stocked with practical things such as bin bags, dishwasher tablets etc. Steve the owner was there to greet us when we arrived and was really helpful showing us around and explaining how the hot tub worked. The views are incredible from the property and the company of the goats and sheep was lovely as well. Overall we were all really pleased with the property and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. I would definitely visit again.
Five of us stayed at this lovely property, in March 2026 for a long weekend, and it was wonderful! The cottage is large, well laid out, immaculately presented, and everything you need in the kitchen is there in multiple forms, and the views are beautiful. Steve was a brilliant host, meeting us when we arrived to check we were ok and to show us settings for the hot tub, and central heating, and then leaving us to it, and we knew we could contact him if we had any questions or concerns, but we didn't need to. We all had a brilliant time, we didn't leave the property, because we are familiar with the area and often enjoy visiting places nearby, so instead we spent all our time in the cottage together playing games, listening to music, enjoying lovely food, and of course enjoying the beautiful views and hot tub. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely property. We would love to come back sometime.

We stayed for 4 nights at the cottage and had an absolutely lovely time! Kids are well catered for, lots of kids plates etc. Rooms are lovely and spacious with comfy beds. Its a great base for exploring locally, we went to zip world, the elan valley dams and walked into Builth Wells in a lovely sunny day. Overall we had an amazing time and would definitely book again!
Steve was lovely when i first arrived. The cottage was beautiful in every way. Lovely furnishings, very spacious. Views amazing. Me and the mrs loved it that much we are looking to book again. It has everything you need. We loved it, and were fussy. Well done Steve and Jillian. Beautiful

A beautiful, spacious and comfortable house with incredible views over the river. Steve was a fantastic host. Beautiful location with lovely walks on the doorstep. Lots of places to visit nearby and always lovely to come back to the hot tub to warm up! Couldnt recommend this place enough.
Michael
Wonderful accommodation with stunning views over the River Wye! The cottage was clean and warm on arrival winter rental, beds very comfortable and the Hot Tub invitingly warm and clean! The main living area was plenty large enough and comfortable for our party of 8 dog! The large kitchen is well equipped as is the separate utility room which along with spacious car parking for 34 cars helped make our stay effortless and comfortable!

I cant recommend this place enough! Steve was absolutely fantastic friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. The views were stunning, and the hot tub and all the facilities provided were incredible. Its the perfect spot to relax and take in the scenery. Please dont miss the opportunity to stay here you wont be disappointed! Thank you both for such a wonderful stay. Kieran and friends

An excellent property. Very spacious for x2 families of 4. Was not far to get to HayonWye and Elan Valley for our half term mini break. The views were amazing. The hot tub was heavenly and the beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
The property was very clean, tidy and superbly positioned with a lovely outlook. We would have no reservations in recommending this property.
Great house with great features. Hot tub was really nice. The view was splendid. Nice contact to the friendly owner. We missed nothing.
Michael
What a lovely home. The best holiday home we have stayed in and we've stayed in a lot. Views are incredible and the bungalow is unbelievable. The host are so welcoming and helpful. Thank you
What a wonderful place! The bungalow accommodated 3 generations and dog! more than comfortably. Spotlessly clean in a peaceful setting. Welcoming and informative owner. Very well equipped kitchen and games cupboard as well as smart TV and the amazing hot tub. The views are utterly incredible and many a hour was spent watching the cows drink at the riverside, red kites in the sky, the bonus of the ospreys nesting close by, insane sunsets and stargazing. The property is close to Builth Wells which has lovely vibe with little shops petrol stationBurger King and pubscafes etc along the river highly recommend the Drovers cafe. If you need larger town for TescoAldi etc property is about 20mins from llandrindod wells. During our week we used PenYBanc base and visited Gigrin Farm for the spectacular Red Kite feeding booking essential HayonWye great Sunday lunch at Kilverts Inn Tenby approx 1hr45min drive Mach Loop, Newton House, so there is lots to do around, with suggestions and information leaflets available in the property. Check the opening times of the more local pubs as the closest one did not open until 6pm also check opening times of local take always as again we found this was not as advertised in menu leaflets. In summary we had a fantastic time in a wonderful property.

Lovely place. Had a problem with the TV on first day but Steve did everything he could to get it sorted, even taking a spare tv to the place. Hot tub was lovely and warm. We were allowed to feed the pigmy goats in the paddock behind the cottage. No complaints whatsoever.
We had a wonderful few days in our holiday cottage Pen Y Banc. The cottage is very well appointed and the views spectacular. We would all visit again, a really fantastic find. Thank you
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was great to have our expectations fulfilled no nasty surprises on arrival, as is sometimes the case. Lovely house, in a lovely setting, with perhaps the friendliest and most helpful hosts we have known. Plenty of great walking and cycling in the immediate vicinity, in a very scenic and uncrowded part of Wales. The carefully maintained hot tub was a real bonus.
Absolutely beautiful property, amazing views with very helpful and nice host. Property is finished to the highest standard, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, everything you could want in the kitchen and very spacious. Great hot tub! Wouldnt hesitate to recommend to anyone and would love to return one day.
Richard
Accommodation is lovely larger than expected web pictures don't do it justice. Views are incredible best we have seen in all our years of holiday cottages in the UK. Steve the owner is extremely helpful mentioned to him that it would be good to have a small bench by the front door to help us oldies get our footwear off bench arrived the very same day
Rachel
We had a wonderful family minibreak at Pen Y Banc. The holiday home is beautiful and catered extremely well for the three generations staying there. Very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The views were absolutely stunning. The host was very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thank you!
Lovely place. Strongly recommended

Absolute gem of a property! It had everything we needed add more. We had a dog with us that was not stranger friendly! The owners made sure we had our privacy at all times whilst still maintaining the hot tub. Everything was beyond our expectations absolutely beautiful. The views were to die for and the calming sound of the river opposite just added to the tranquility. We really couldnt recommend it highly enough for a get away from it all break. 5 Stars and can not wait to return.
Sandra
Lovely bungalow with stunning views. The owner was super friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Accommodation was perfect for 8 of us, really enjoyed the space especially the kitchen and view
What a beautiful property! We stayed here for a week and loved every minute. The views are to die for and the property itself is immaculate. Its close enough to Builth be able to nip out for whatever you may need but far enough away to appreciate the tranquility of the surrounding countryside. The property itself has everything you need for a break away and is all of high quality. I would definitely recommend this property and had I not booked next years breaks already then I would be booking to return next year. The owner is lovely, very friendly and approachable. We will definitely return here. Thank you for a lovely stay
Beautiful property in stunning setting. One of the comfiest beds Ive slept in. The house was perfect for our stay and Steve was really helpful. Highly recommend.
Had a fabulous stay with fantastic views cant wait to return!
Lovely property, fantastic beds & mattresses. Everything that we needed was there. Hot tub brilliant with great views. Owner very supportive, very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
An excellent property. Really enjoyed our stay there. Owners very attentive and helpful. Great facilities. Lovely beds. We all slept sooo well. Great views even tho it was not the best weather kitchen was well stocked. Everything we needed was there. Thoroughly recommend !!
We've all had a fabulous holiday and didn't want to leave. Pen y Banc is the best property we've ever stayed in. Spacious, modern, comfy beds, spotlessly clean and stunning views. The Owners were so lovely, and have thought of everything to make sure you have a relaxing, amazing holiday. Thank you so much, we'll definitely be back.
What a lovely property! Deceptively spacious, airy and bright, and set in a beautiful location. This property has just about everything you could want in a holiday let. Comfortable rooms, nice bathrooms, a well stocked kitchen. The outdoor space was great, taking in the stunning views was an awesome way to wake up in the mornings, especially watching the red kites flying around, and a crane down on the river. We also enjoyed watching the local farmer working with his dogs herding sheep in the surrounding fields. The hot tub was also a bonus. As a family of 7 over 3 generations, the house more than catered for all of us. The owner is also friendly and approachable should there be any issues we didn't have any Our teenage niece enjoyed fussing the owners goats. We have been doing holidays cottages for a few years and this was one of our favourites.
Deborah
A wonderful stay! The house was great, immaculate, lots of space for our family and the views are superb. The hot tub was fantastic and spotlessly clean. Very easy to relax and return home reenergised! All in all a fantastic place, highly recommended.
Ruthie
Pen Y Banc is an absolutely incredible house. The views are breathtaking even better than they look in the photos. A red kite nests nearby and often glides around in front of the house often really close to it, which is a spectacular sight. The house is really spacious, with excellent facilities everything you need is there including a well kitted out kitchen with loads of utensils, pots, pans etc, and a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, sink etc. The beds are comfy. Bathroom and en suite facilities all worked perfectly. The hot tub is a fab feature as well, as it gives you another opportunity to enjoy the incredible view. The host was very friendly and helpful too. It was a very happy holiday
Lauren
We couldnt fault it, it was absolutely brilliant! Owners were so welcoming and friendly and we even got to feed and stroke the two little goats that are there. All in all a really great stay and actually our favourite that weve been on in the UK. So thank you very much.
A lovely, wellsited bungalow overlooking the River Wye, set in a quiet location and with easy access. The bungalow was well appointed and equipped, with modern decor and furnishings. It was well looked after, very clean and suitable for our fourlegged friends. The hot tub proved a real bonus and again was well maintained and checked daily. The owner, who lived locally, was very friendly and helpful with a lovely Welsh accent. Many thanks Steve for a wonderful holiday and please let us know when the next holiday home is up and running.
Elizabeth
Lovely house in a beautiful spot. Very clean, well equipped kitchen, masses of space, owner very responsive. Would recommend!
Stayed at Pen y banc for my partners Birthday celebrations. Fabulous place to stay
Pen y Banc was an excellent property in a stunning location. A beautiful house, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Spacious and very comfortable particularly the beds. And that lovely view from the big patio windows. We had a lovely weekend, and enjoyed the hot tub! The host was very welcoming and friendly. Useful fenced garden and terrace area for the dog.
Barbara
Beautiful accommodation with stunning views. Easy access to areas of outstanding natural beauty. Very friendly and accommodating Owner, hot tub was greatly appreciated.
Fantastic views from the house and the cottage itself is beautifully set up. Steve was incredibly helpful during our stay as well. I'd happily recommend the cottage to anyone staying in the area.
PenyBanc is exceptional. Spacious, well equipped, with effective heating and showers and a good selection of beds that should suit most parties. This the first cottage I have stayed in for some time in which I have not had to sleep on the floor thanks to my need for a firm and zerosag mattress one of the beds met this need. This place also boasts perhaps the finest view I have ever seen from a cottage in forty years of UK self catering holidays. The only point I would flag to newcomers is that the best way to find it is to use the precise map reference given in the key collection email, because the drive is easily missed.
Absolutely gorgeous place and views, couldn't fault our stay and the owner was very accommodating which made us feel at home, we will be back next year for sure.
