Castle Top Retreat Reviews

Jacqueline
Pros unbeatable position, fabulous views across to Lincoln, lovely to have the living area upstairs, great walks from the house, wonderful hot tub and sauna with towels provided, comfortable beds, luxurious and clean bathrooms , tasty Sunday lunch at the Salutation. Cons off putting arrival with ripped polytunnel and weeds growing against the building grubby oven trays needed washing and the oven gloves replacing but the main annoyance was that with only two usable sun loungers on the terrace two were unusable with large holes in them and no chairs we couldn't sit outside in the late sun to enjoy the views and a glass of wine,
Christine
Had an absolutely amazing time here. The accommodation layout was perfect for my family of 6 adults and 2 teenagers. The facilities ticked all the boxes and the outside area was perfect. Every one of us totally enjoyed our family time. The BBQ, tennis court, Hot tub and Sauna was well used by all of us. We wouldn't hesitate to come again. Had a couple of questions and they were answered straight away. The Hot tub was maintained during our stay. All round 1010 from all of us.. The only negative was we struggled to find it at first and missed the turning a couple of times. Maybe a more lit up sign with a solar light or something would help. But it didn't impact us once we spotted the turning..
Whilst the property was very welcoming there are some issues, for example there is only lounge seating for 9 people! The kitchen is not great for catering for 10 people, extremely small not greatly equipped, The bbq hut helps and in better weather even more so. Double beds were very good but the downstairs singles were not so good. Taking the issues above aside the accommodation was very luxurious. The spa and sauna were excellent and the views from the rooms were also excellent and as a group we made it work well for us.
Angela
Wonderful property for groups. We had a party of 10 for new year. A family of 6 and 2 couples. The hot tub was regulary checked and the owner was friendly and very informative.
We had a wonderful Christmas family holiday in this lovely home. The sauna and hot tub was just amazing and fun for the whole family
We were a family gathering and the property was perfect. Really enjoyed the hot tub on the roof.
Fantastic property both inside and out with amazing grounds and facilities. Sole use of the BBQ hut and tennis courts was great along with the hot tub which we used daily! Owner also on hand when needed. Would def recommend and return in future.
Louise
We enjoyed a lovely family stay at the cottage, plenty of space and very nice Hot tub was a nice touch and everyone enjoyed we didnt use the sauna or bbq housetennis courts. We thought it was quirky that all the bathrooms had a tv in them but some didnt work. Was helpful to have a washerdryer Would have been nice if there had been some tea, coffee, sugar condiments. But overall a nice stay
We are 5 couples who dont live near each other. One even coming from new Zealand.we haven't all been together since 2019,so castle top retreat was the perfect place for our long over due catch up.we used the bq, hotpub and sauna, even though we had some rain. The property is immaculate, very modern spec through out. We had the best time and would definitely return in the future.
Lauren
Our stay at Castle Top retreat was amazing. Out of this world views and so relaxing. All 10 of us really enjoyed this place and would 100 recommend.
Trevor
Great location and incredible holiday home. We really enjoyed our week and would definitely come back. Thank you.
We all loved the place and location, perfect for our girly weekend to celebrate a special birthday. A big thank you for the welcome wine & chocolates, lovely surprise. The place was spotlessly clean, which is so important. Feel there are some very simple improvements that could be made though. Hooks on doors or anywhere, entrance way, bedrooms & bathrooms to hang towels, coats etc. Mirrors downstairs in the small bedroom & in the hallway area near plug sockets. An extra key for the patio doors in the loungekitchen diner, there was only one. Some basic cleaning products plus a cloth, making it easier & to encourage guests to keep it clean. Food wastage bin. An information folder would have been good and lastly most of the party weren't happy about having to strip the beds. As a fellow holiday accommodation owner I know this had to be introduced in Covid but I think revert back if you can & put the information back in now & charge any extra cost to guests. And the very last thing a few sachets of tea, coffee & sugar. We brought everything but forgot the sugar so on the first morning a couple of people were disappointed. Overall these are are all very minor things but do enhance the guests stay especially the hooks. We had a wonderful stay & even the weather behaved itself so we were able to make good use of the hot tub, Sauna & take in the beautiful views and area. Would certainly stay again & recommend you to friends & family. Thank you Rowena, Helen's friend on behalf of Helen & all the guests.
The only criticism and its only a small wound be with no outside lighting when we arrived,, due to it being dark. But apart from that we all had a fantastic time.
Great stay for three generations of the family. Very quiet and fantastic views from the highest point in Lincolnshire. Hot tub used daily and checked three times by owners during the stay. Everything you could want.
Michael
Fabulous property, everything supplied. Great facilities, modern, clean, comfy. Loved the bbq shack & hot tub. Great holiday
Wonderful time at Castle Top Retreat. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Fabulous location and a wonderful property. Super clean and absolutely as described, couldn't have asked for more. Had a lovely weekend with familyfriends for a 60th Birthday. Great property to relax in and plenty of space for everyone to chill out suit themselves. BBQ hut was also great though agree with others who have said that taking a torch comes in handy we had done so for the walk back and forth as the evening gets later. All in, a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back if we got the chance.
Fantastic 7 night stay over Easter, 4 adults and 5 children, all loved it, lovely property and the plenty of space. Would definitely recommend and look forward to re visiting
We had a lovely stay My only negative is the kitchen floor is very dangerous when wet My sister law broke her rib falling with wet feet entering the kitchen from the roof top.
Outstanding property with exceptional hosts, whose communication was first class, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds with quality linens. Spotlessly clean and spacious. The views are amazing especially the sunsets, The terrace is beautiful and the hot tub a real treat. Unfortunately the sauna was not working but the hosts did all they could to remedy even though they were out for the day. Would be good to include a pizza cutter and a little bottle of washing up liquid and a broom. An absolute gem of a place and highly recommended, thank you Castle Top we really loved our stay. Xx
Winnifred
We enjoyed a fantastic time at Castle Top Retreat. Thank you for making us feel really welcome. Everything was more than we hoped for. Restful beds, comfy, cosy sofa's, and a well equipped kitchen. We had the best time in the hot tub, sauna and BBQ hut. We were so happy to have the use of the tennis court and field for ball games. Lincoln and local beaches are within a 45 minutes drive away. We took advantage of the walks along local public footpaths, with views that were simply stunning. We only had one problem the light in the BBQ hut tripped but this was promptly fixed. Thank you for sharing your delightful retreat.
Timothy
Fabulous property in idyllic location. Visited during heatwave so weather, location, setting could not have been more ideal. Despite size of our group, there was always lots of space to spread out. Comfortable beds, settees, large kitchen and very modern bathrooms all combined to make our stay a memorable one. Would rebook in a flash.
. A lovely, spacious, clean and comfortable property.
Michelle
We had a fantastic experience staying in the cottage. The agency and owners were extremely helpful and nothing was a bother. We would definitely stay here again and recommend others to do so.
Charlotte
An amazing clean, beautiful and spacious property. It had everything. The owner was friendly, easy to communicate with and very accommodating. We had a range of ages from 2070 and all had the best time!
Beverly
Our stay was very comfortable and enjoyed by all 9 of us. The accommodation was beautiful, very clean, comfy beds and well equipped. The hot tub and sauna was a great treat and the grounds offered plenty of space for the grandchildren to run and play. The owners were very helpful answering any questions we had. A brilliant and special family holiday and was sad when it was time to leave.
Anthony
Stayed at Castle top retreat for 7 days The location and views are stunning and the house is very spacious with all the amenities you could wish for. The 6 seater jacuzzi and sauna were a great addition. Would recommend this property for rental and we will probably book again.
Catherine
Luxurious property in a beautiful location. Everything we could have wished for. We would definitely revisit. Minor suggestions Well equipped kitchen but could do with some scissors. The rail in the entrance could do with hangers to put coats on as well as a hook in each bedroom for dressing gowns
Robert
Excellent well furbished hide away, wouldn't hesitate stay again or recommend. Beautifully located for relaxing retreat and recharge or local attractions.
Excellent rental. We would definitely recommend and return.
Michael
Castle Top was exactly what we needed and exactly as described. The views from the windows and rooftop area were stunning. The place feels quiet and secluded. Gavin and Lynn the owners live downstairs and although we never met them in person, we knew they were available if we needed anything. I would certainly return to this place and recommend to others.
Rebecca
Amazing property, location and hosts! The hosts were available to contact when needed and quick to help us when we got lost. Brilliant place with amazing facilities. We didn't want to leave!
Charlotte
Beautiful home. Absolutely spotlessly clean. The Hot tub was so nice, followed by the newly added sauna...Even storm Eunice couldn't spoil our stay. Very helpful and attentive owners when questions asked. Already considering returning.
Graeme
Fantastic property with great views. Lots to do in the changeable weather with the hot tub and sauna being used frequently, as well as the tennis court when the wind allowed. BBQ house was great fun, and practical given the time of year. Gavin was very helpful and we all had a great time at Castle Top.
Excellent service, due to covid booking changed easily with no issues. Had a fab stay, enjoyed by all.
Absolutely beautiful home, spotlessly clean and really plush facilities. As previous reviews have said, the only things lacking are certain basic kitchen items such as enough cutlery, kitchen tea towels when youre washing up for ten people the single tea towel became too wet to use! kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets and washing powder. It would be helpful if these basics are provided given that the facilities are there to be used and we did pay a significant amount of money to stay there. However EVERYTHING else was an absolute dream and we loved it. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Fantastic place. Had a fab time. The only advice to give is that there is a steep hill to the pub not for the faint hearted walking back up.
Russell
Had a wonderful few days celebrating my 50th birthday. House and facilities are excellent with stunning views. Highlight is the BBQ house where we spent every evening. Just pack a torch as the walk back to the house in the dark can be tricky!
Robert
Lovely location with great views, spotlessly clean, very friendly hosts. The children loved toasted marshmallows dipped in chocolate in the BBQ hut on the last night. The kitchen was a bit light on cutlery and dishes for the 10 of us, but we managed OK. Access, as directed, from the top road was fine but the lower route chosen by our satnav was very rough in places. Really excellent value for money at 2021 prices but shocked to see that the same week next year 2022 will be about 1000.00 more.
Anthony
Amazing holiday, Lynne was so accommodating, beautiful views and house. We will definitely be back xxxx
This property is out of this world! So modern and clean and tidy! Its in such a picturesque location! Fantastic owners and would definitely recommend!!

The Jungle Zoo - NR31 9EY

Centred around a Tropical House in an amazing jungle like setting this is a really unique attraction that will appeal to families.  In the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire it's easy to get to and offers a fun yet educational experience.  Referred to as the number one attraction in the area highlights include capuchin monkeys, meerkats, ring tailed lemur and for the children African pygmy goats.  The tropical house features Red Eared and other Terrapins from North America and goldfish amongst other things.  We think The Jungle Zoo represents excellent value for money too.  We recommend a whole day to explore this attraction and ensure you get to see all of the animals resident there.
Pleasure Island - DN35 0PL

Wow this is an amazing family theme park and you will probably need the full day to experience it all.  From thrilling rides to family shows, kids of all ages are catered for.  Some of the most popular rides include the Obliterator and The Pendulus, not forgetting the Hypoblaster.   Family shows are entertaining such as the African Acrobat Show which is back by popular demand.  Entrance tickets are good value and if you book online you will receive a discount. To save even more money if you live locally or are visiting the area for a few weeks you could buy a season ticket for around £50 which will allow you entry for the whole season.
Rushmoor Country Park - GU10 1ET
about 16 Miles
Located in Louth in Lincolnshire this is an ideal attraction when you want to get out in the fresh air and explore. There are many animals to see including ponies and piglets which the little ones love.  There are also some amazing birds from hawks and falcons to owls.  Most aspects of this attraction are included in the admission cost and as well as wandering around you get to hold and feed the animals too.  A real highlight are the micro pigs which are just like real pigs but in miniature.  Fully grown they are around the size of a spaniel!  If you get hungry then you can take your own picnic to the picnic areas or head for the tea room selling delicious food and children's meals too.
