About The Orchard Hut

This idyllic romantic bolthole enjoys a peaceful location, just outside the pretty village of Burnham Overy Staithe. The shepherd’s hut sits within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape with sandy beaches and remote coast paths.

You’ll be within easy reach of some of Norfolk’s finest beaches, such as Brancaster (6 miles) and Wells-next-the-Sea (4.5 miles), and the much-loved historic house and gardens of Holkham Hall are just 2 miles away. The shepherd’s hut is set amongst the trees of a delightful, family-owned fruit orchard.

Climb the wooden steps and, once inside, discover a welcoming retreat bursting with rustic charm and homely touches. The property has a studio-style layout and features beautiful exposed woodwork, panelled walls, and calming decor.

The kitchenette allows you to prepare lovely meals, which you can share at the fold-down table next to the cosy wood burner or in the outside seating area. Tucked away at the far end of the shepherd’s hut is a secluded double bed for a good night’s sleep.

A separate shower room completes the accommodation. Outside, fire up the BBQ and dine alfresco amongst the trees, followed by an evening of stargazing under the dark skies.

The property has private parking for two cars. Burnham Overy Beach is reached via a 1-mile walk from the village’s harbour, making it one of Norfolk’s most secluded and unspoilt coastal spots.

Pack a picnic and spend the day on the sand, admiring the breathtaking views and paddling in the crystal-clear water. From the harbour, you can also catch a ferry to Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve for an afternoon amongst the local wildlife.

The Norfolk Coast Path passes through the village, and there are also opportunities for sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding nearby. For shopping and eating out, the bustling village of Burnham Market is 1.5 miles away.

Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 10 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 10 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 17 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary - PE25 1DB
about 21 Miles
Awarded the Lincolnshire Family Attraction of the Year award in recent years this fun day out is recommended. You can see seals and penguins, as well as other animals in the popular pets corner.  Feeding time for the seals and penguins is the real highlight of the day. Entertainment, education and conservation are the main aims of this attraction. Natureland's work with abandoned baby seals has become known worldwide and it's carefully researched rearing and treatment program is now used by many other rescue centres.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 22 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 27 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
