To the side of the kitchen, step into the spacious conservatory which overlooks both the front and rear garden and is a real sun trap! To the other side of the kitchen is the lounge area, which has a large corner sofa, ideal for curling up in front of the TV after a long day sightseeing.

The woodburning stove is a welcome addition, especially during those winter months. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms; one double and one king-size with zip and link beds to suit all types of people.

The twin bedroom has a wealth of character with its exposed beams, and the master bedroom with its built-in wardrobes which expand across one whole wall. The family bathroom has high-quality fittings with a lovely bath and shower over.

Outside there is a shared front garden and patio area with furniture provided. Or, for some privacy, you can enjoy the rear patio area which also hosts a luxurious hot tub.

While you stay in Buxton, why not take a trip to some of its most popular attractions? Poole's Cavern is a two million-year-old limestone cave with lights installed inside and bridges for the public to enjoy the magnificent views.

The grounds also have a park with picnic areas and woodland trails for active walkers and sightseers. There is something for everyone here!

For a taste of history, visit St Anne's Well, which can be used by the public to refill their water bottles as the permanent flow is mineral water. Previous to this, it was once a Pilgrim shrine, but has been dedicated to St.

Monk's Cottage Reviews

This was a lovely stay. The cottage is brilliant, perfect for a small family like ours. It has everything you could possibly need. The neighbours were also friendly. The only thing that might put others off and for people with big cars to be aware is the difficulty in turning in the parking space, which is quite tight although this didnt bother me at all and it cant be helped! Its very spacious inside, nicely decorated and comfortable. Its really well located, allowing access to absolutely everything we wanted to do within around a 30min drive and we did loads on our 45 days there. The cottage is excellent value for money, and made for a comfortable base on an excellent holiday in the Peak District. There were really nice touches, with the hot tub providing a great way to wind down after a physical day, board games to enjoy of an evening with the kids and a Netflix account too! We enjoyed it so much, we even tried to extend our stay as we could see there was another day available online albeit we were probably too late to do that as we didnt get a reply through Sykes. If this was something that could be done wed have definitely stayed another night.
It is a lovely property, nice big rooms & local ammenities. Not sure whether it's a Sykes Cottage or Monks Cottage issue, but my query was not responded to. There is an iron, no gowns, no basic essentials such as milk, tea, coffee, sugar or bathing essentials, soap, shower gel.
Lesley
We had a fantastic stay at this really lovely cottage. Very comfortable and well equipped. My husband enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine. Neighbours were friendly.
Found the lounge furniture a little low for us to get up and down from but we are not spring chickens so would be unfair to make much of this. We had seen in other reviews read after booking that the parking was very tight for large cars, I had no trouble getting in with a Peugeot 5008 estate car almost 16 foot long. The cottage was well equipped even had a rolling pin lots don't. But lacked a dvd player not a problem if the weather is nice like it was for us. Enjoyed some dips in the hot tub which was almost a first for us.
A charming cottage in quiet and relaxing area. The hot tub was a perfect touch. All the facilities were just right for a comfortable stay. The only minor suggestion would be to provide additional towels, as only two were initially supplied for 3 people no additional ones were found in chest of drawers as advised in the booklet. Luckily we had own towels so that was not a massive issue. A bit narrow path to the car park, but the parking space itself fits larger SUV easily. Lovely and very friendly neighbours. Overall, it was a delightful and relaxing experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

We loved our stay at Monks cottage! A very well presented, clean, cosy cottage with some modern touches. Ideally situated to explore the peaks, with a relaxing hot tub to look forward to after a day's hiking, followed by a glass of whatever you fancy with the log burner going. We came home feeling suitably relaxed! I just wanted to add having read previous reviews that the neighbours we encountered were friendly, and we had no issues with dog barking. There is a friendly dog that sits in the front shared space, but she's an old girl and perfectly friendly!
Great property, very comfortable, this was our third time staying and we love it! Thank you
Andrew
Excellent property, clean and tidy with large rooms. Superb facilities with everything you would need. The hot tub is a real bonus!! Great location on the edge of Buxton to explore the Peak District. Would highly recommend.
Leslie
Monks Cottage is a lovely, comfortable cottage, well appointed with everything one might need and in a good location for visiting and travelling the Peak District. The one drawback is the parking space. If you have anything above a small car then the parking space is very tight and some may find it very difficult to access or exit.
Melanie
Absolutely beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need. This has been one if our favourite cottages. The only downside was one of the neighbours who was telling us what we could and couldn't do. She also let her dog out every morning and tbe dog would bark, sometimes for at least 10 minutes.
Graeme
Lovely cottage, nicely presented and is equipped with almost everything you will need. Great location too. What would have made it totally perfect would have been a pint of milk in the fridge for arrival!
The neighbours dog was let out atb7am most mornings and kept barking wich woke us up . Was nit best pleased .
We absolutely loved our stay at Monks Cottage. Property and location are great. We really appreciated the hot tub when getting back after long walks. The chilled bottle of fizz in the fridge on arrival was a nice touch when arriving,

This cottage is an amazing place to spend the week . We have hiked, open water dipped at 3 shires head and hired ebikes on the monsal trail . Lots to do within a short distance . Buxton itself is lovely with a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants aswell as local walks if you dont want to use the car . We visited the local pub several times on an evening . The nineteenth hole which was a 5 min walk away . The locals and landlady were friendly and we spent time chatting in there and sat in the rear courtyard. The pub is also dog friendly
Angela
Beautiful cottage very well equipped, had everything we needed. Spacious rooms with a cozy feel, kitchen was great. Hot tub very welcoming after long walks exploring the peaks. Buddy and Daisy were best friends instantly !! both being border collies. All in all a perfect set up for a relaxing holiday. Certainly book again. John Ange Sam & Buddy.
Our second stay at the beautiful Monks Cottage. ...couldn't have asked for more from a holiday experience...loved the hot tub, the use of the communal gardens, the wonderful, friendly neighbours and not forgetting Daisy the dog....the property didn't disappoint and we had everything to make our stay exceptional.
A really lovely cottage. Beautiful kitchen, comfortable settee and comfortable beds. Very clean. Very well equipped. Ideally located in a quiet spot for you to travel into Buxton, or any of the surrounding towns, Castleton, Bakewell etc. Parking is tight with a larger car, but not impossible and at least there is parking available. Neighbour was very friendly as was Daisy the dog.
Gina was really responsive to some questions we had and the cottage was perfect for our stay. We loved the hot tub. I would return in a heart beat.
Lovely property and well located. Facilities were great, especially the hot tub. Everywhere clean and the beds and sofa were comfortable. We did find there were a few wasps in the cottage when we returned from a day out, so not sure where these were coming from.
A great little property well located for peace and quiet whilst being close to the town centre and ideally placed to get to many of the beautiful locations around the Peak District. There are also walks accessible without having to drive anywhere. The house is nice and well maintained and the beds are comfortable. The hot tub was a welcome luxury at the end of a day of hiking and sight seeing.
This is the second time we have stayed, and again was absolutely lovely! Great size and space, kitchen well equipped. Hot tub perfect. Would highly recommend.
We really enjoyed our weeks stay at Monks cottage, very comfortable, cosy & clean. Well equipped cottage made self catering really easy, it had everything we needed. Hot tub was a great treat after a day walking in the peaks. The back area was enclosed so great to let our dog out. Thank you, would recommend and love to return
Monks Cottage is a lovely cottage where we soon felt at home. A very comfortable lounge area with log burner, a well equipped kitchen and beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds. Hot tub is a super addition. We would return. Excellent communication prior to stay.
Lovely cottage in a great location. Very clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend with our four legged friend. The hot tub was a bonus after a days walk. Would definitely book again.
We loved our stay lovely clean cottage, Only suggestion I can make, is we booked mainly because of the hot tub it was raining very heavily on our last night, and we couldnt use the tub as there is no shelter over the tub, I find this strange as this is the main feature of the cottage, so some sort of shelter over the tub would be a great asset and allow people to use the tub in all weathers.
Tracey
Lovely stay at Monks Cottage. Comfortable sofa in the lounge and most importantly, comfy mattresses! Very clean, spacious cottage nicely decorated and accessorised. We paid the extra charge for the hot tub, which was delightful. Buxton is within walking distance, if youre feeling like stretching your legs. Theyre not exaggerating when they say one parking space, however we needed a second one so contacted the owner who responded very promptly and helped sort us out. Only slight negative was the towels were quite small and we wished wed brought our own. Would definitely return to the cottage.
A cosy cottage, great central heating. Very clean and comfortable and equipped with everything you would need. The hot tub in its little courtyard was very private. Yes, there is a small lane to it and a very small parking space but not a deal breaker. We had a couple of small problems but these were dealt with very quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.
We had all we needed, except, perhaps, for a laundry basket. We realised most guests will not have missed this, but as we stayed for a full two weeks we did a couple of washes. Other than that, it was a brilliant stay and all the neighbours were so friendly and helpful
The property itself was very comfortable lovely and clean. Well equipped everything you needed. The only downside was the approach to the property down a short track, not a big issue. Would definitely stop there again.
Hilary
A well presented holiday let. Excellent quality of equipment , furnishings and bedding. Would certainly return another Would certainly return another year.
Absolutely fantastic cottage. ...can't rate it highly enough......
A lovely week in Monk's Cottage, all the main areas very clean. Excellent location to get to lots of places to visit and easy walking distance into Buxton. Hot tub excellent! Plenty of space for our family of 4. Suggestions for improvement would be extra patio seating, hooks for towels etc in hot tub area and a newer style highchair. What was disappointing was that we asked via the agent to briefly speak to the owner in advance but we were not contacted. There was a small issue on arrival and I then had the owner's number but she was a little slow to respond. We would still stay at Monks again. Thank you for an enjoyable holiday!
Raymond
Everything was excellent. The only possible suggestion may be to do with the hot tub. Perhaps the shrub over the fence by the side gate could be cut down to fence height to avoid the seeds blowing into the hot tub. Alternatively supply a small net that customers could clear the leaves to assist with maintenance.
We had a fantastic week at Monk's Cottage. We loved everything about our stay and were very sad to leave. Perfect location for exploring the Peak District and for relaxing at the end of the day.
We had a great stay. Cottage was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Sandra
Lovely cottage, very clean and spacious great walks and beautiful scenery would definitely recommend this place
Alison
A fantastic holiday. ..all very clean and comfortable as described.
Despite everything the British weather threw at us, a very pleasant week sitting in the hot tub after a day's exploring was the cherry on the cake! The cottage was lovely and our hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly We definitely recommend Monks Cottage for anybody intending to stop in the Buxton area
Lindsey
We had a lovely stay at Monks cottage. The house is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It is about 15 minutes to walk to town but it's uphill to walk back! Gina, the owner, rang to check everything was alright and ensured we knew we could ring her if we needed anything. The hot tub is a really welcome feature and was used every day.
