Right next door, you'll find Clearwell Castle, a historic building often used for live events. Clearwell Caves offer a fascinating step back in time, where you can explore the area’s mining heritage.

The area is crisscrossed with well-marked walking routes, making it easy to set off straight from the door and roam the rolling hills and woodland. Only a mile away you will find Puzzlewood, an enchanting 14-acre ancient woodland; this rare temperate rainforest is a popular filming location for TV shows and Hollywood movies.

The wider region of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley is rich in history and dotted with charming towns and villages to discover, including Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth, and Tintern (all within 12 miles). Inside, this rural retreat brings together contemporary design and countryside living in a standout setting.

The main entrance opens into a spectacular open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, where vaulted ceilings, carefully curated interiors, and unique locally sourced artwork create a welcoming and inviting space. This gorgeous annexe enjoys an enviable location, with stunning, far-reaching views across the horseshoe of the Severn Estuary. Located on the same site as Horseshoe View Cottages and quite literally on the doorstep of the Forest. Just 50m from the property you can enjoy lovely walks, taking in the flora and fauna such as bluebell woods and Highland Cattle in the nature reserve.

The cottage is nestled on the edge of peaceful woodland, perfect for picnics and woodland walks and is located on the same site as Horseshoe View Cottage No 2 and the River View Hideaway annexe. The Forest of Dean boasts several nature reserves, one of which is on the doorstep, where wild boar, sheep, deer, and Highland cattle are just some of the wildlife to be seen.

Puzzlewood is a somewhat unique attraction within the beautiful Forest of Dean. Visitors can explore the mile of pathways passing over wooden bridges and through some stunning tree and rock formations. The maze of pathways are quite enchanting and the site has recently been used as a location for the BBC1 production of Merlin. While enjoying the splendour of nature there are many types of wildlife to meet along the way including Shetland ponies, Donkeys and Highland Cattle. A Hocus Pokus Halloween event takes place from the 24th to the 31st of October.

At Old king Street Farm you can spend the day with the charming creatures and enjoy feeding them, grooming them and having a stroll through the woodland. Lamas are not ridden but they can carry all the picnic essentials including tables and chairs! Lama Treks around the stunning Black Mountains are also available. 
Bristol Aquarium - BS1 5TT

The Blue Reef Aquarium and IMAX 3D Cinema is located in Bristol and makes a great fun family day out.  The newest attraction in the region it's an experience not to be missed.  More than 7000 animals are resident in naturally themed habitats and you can enjoy wandering around looking at the 40 displays. Highlights include the giant octopus and the cute seahorses. The IMAX 3D cinema system is fantastic - you will feel like you are swimming along with the animals.

This wonderful attraction in Gloucestershire will appeal to animal lovers as you will have the chance to see the fantastic work going on and meet the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.  This place is funded entirely through public donations and they rely on these vital funds.  Kids will love the play barn and straw den where they can run off some energy.  New for 2010 is the Aerial Runway with Jungle Climber.
