Just a short stroll from your lodge is St Briavels Castle (1.5 miles), a moated Norman fortress that was once a royal hunting lodge and prison. Now a youth hostel, it still dominates the village and offers a tangible sense of history.

St Briavels is home to a vibrant community of artists and craftspeople, lending the area a creative energy that enhances its timeless charm. For wildlife lovers, birdwatchers, and families with curious kids, the nearby rivers Wye and Severn add yet more to explore.

There is a beautiful pub in St Briavels Town centre called the George Inn (1.2 miles). Tucked within the grounds of an established cottage, this beautifully presented lodge promises a tranquil escape with all the comforts of home.

Inside, the open-plan living area is bright and airy with vaulted ceilings, a cosy wood burner, and a Smart TV for relaxing after a day of exploring. Large windows frame garden views, creating a peaceful atmosphere whilst you lounge on the sofa or gather around the generous dining table together.

The well-equipped kitchen area has everything you need for easy self-catering, from preparing a long lunch to a celebratory evening meal. Flanking either side of the living area are two spacious bedrooms: one double with an en-suite shower room, and one zip-and-link king-size bedroom (which can be made into a twin on request), also with its own en-suite.

Puzzlewood - GL16 8QB

Puzzlewood is a somewhat unique attraction within the beautiful Forest of Dean. Visitors can explore the mile of pathways passing over wooden bridges and through some stunning tree and rock formations. The maze of pathways are quite enchanting and the site has recently been used as a location for the BBC1 production of Merlin. While enjoying the splendour of nature there are many types of wildlife to meet along the way including Shetland ponies, Donkeys and Highland Cattle. A Hocus Pokus Halloween event takes place from the 24th to the 31st of October.
Lama Trekking at Old king Street Farm - NP16 6AA

Lamas are gentle, affectionate and unique animals and Lama Trekking is fast becoming a popular family attraction. At Old king Street Farm you can spend the day with the charming creatures and enjoy feeding them, grooming them and having a stroll through the woodland. Lamas are not ridden but they can carry all the picnic essentials including tables and chairs! Lama Treks around the stunning Black Mountains are also available. 
Bristol Aquarium - BS1 5TT

The Blue Reef Aquarium and IMAX 3D Cinema is located in Bristol and makes a great fun family day out.  The newest attraction in the region it's an experience not to be missed.  More than 7000 animals are resident in naturally themed habitats and you can enjoy wandering around looking at the 40 displays. Highlights include the giant octopus and the cute seahorses. The IMAX 3D cinema system is fantastic - you will feel like you are swimming along with the animals.

This wonderful attraction in Gloucestershire will appeal to animal lovers as you will have the chance to see the fantastic work going on and meet the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.  This place is funded entirely through public donations and they rely on these vital funds.  Kids will love the play barn and straw den where they can run off some energy.  New for 2010 is the Aerial Runway with Jungle Climber.

There are also educational shows to see including Milking Show and the twice daily Bottle Feeding Show.

The fantastic setting could hardly be better far activities such as Abseiling, Archery, Climbing, Caverning and Canoeing. The site also has a fantastic assault course.
