About The Hayloft

Ross-on-Wye 2 miles. A fabulous barn conversion dating from the 19th century, in a rural location in the grounds of the owner’s home, close to Ross-on-Wye and The Forest of Dean in the beautiful Wye Valley. The Hayloft has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated using all its original structures in keeping with its surrounding area.

This unique property can offer three lovely bedrooms, and would be suitable for a family or friends who wish to enjoy a peaceful break in this delightful location. Enter through the large glass sliding door and take in the stylish atmosphere, with a deliberate mixture of vintage and modern furniture and décor, the cottage has made use of its original beams and sleepers, offering a homely yet contemporary feeling.

The open-plan living area offers a dining area upon the dark slate tile flooring, where you can gather for the evening meal, or relax at the breakfast bar with a drink, before retiring to the seating in front of the woodburning stove. The cottage has the added benefit of a ground-floor bedroom and two ground-floor bathrooms, while two staircases bring you to the rustic first-floor accommodation featuring exposed beams and original slatted timbers.

One set of stairs leads to the king-size room, with the other leading to the twin room and the splendid sitting room which is home to an inviting leather sofa, TV and a selection of books, the perfect place to curl up watching your favourite show or getting lost in a book. An original door from the sitting room to the larger bedroom is restricted in height, another feature telling the historical story of the property, hence why the owner thoughtfully added the second staircase.

A further individual touch is the outdoor covered seating area, complete with a bar which is the perfect place to relax with friends on a summer evening, unwinding with a refreshing drink. The Hayloft is situated in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside offering many walking and cycling routes right from your doorstep.

The Hayloft Reviews

We had a lovely stay at The Hayloft. The property is a beautifully renovated building with quirky characteristic features which we loved. The beds were extremely comfortable and the linen and towels were excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and in the summer the bar area would be a useful asset. The house was lovely and warm but a top tip for winter visitors would be to bring thick soles slippers to sit downstairs or stand on the stone floor. We loved the enclosed garden with the impressive dry stone wall and the visit of the squirrel most mornings. This is a super rural retreat in a rural area not far from the town of RossonWye. The only downside for us was the parking, which was a very tight space on a bend.
Michael
Really well equipped, comfortable cottage in a lovely area so many walks direct from the house in all directions. The walk into Ross on Wye was pretty, and lots of great pubs around.

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Hayloft near RossonWye. We were a bit unlucky with the weather but the place was warm and comfortable, and had lovely sliding doors all along one side from which we could watch our puppy playing in the enclosed garden or the rain pouring! It had all the facilities we wanted and provided us with a relaxing break.
Perfectly wonderful, a really lovely cottage, clean . I took my own bedding as I was concerned about getting marks from my dogs paws on the white bedding. The pillows are super puffy and look as though they would be cosy but sadly as soon as you pop your head on, they flatten out. Maybe suitable for others but not for me. I will take my own pillows in the future. The shower was perfectly adequate although after a very short while the shower went cold on 3 days which were on the coldest days of our 5 day stay. We really enjoyed staying here and would certainly return, we used the farm shop for many lovely foods, the homemade lasagna is delicious. Chocolate cake left by Jo was lovely not only in taste but also in gesture , thank you .

A great place in beautiful countryside. Ross is a good half hour forty minute walk away along a narrow road unless you find the cut through behind the church accrossthe fields!. River is 15 min walk away. Lovely farm shop around the corner which our grown up kids loved! Outdoor space is great, esp if the weather is not so good, and extra fridgefreezer came in really handy. Lots to see and do in the area canoeing, butterfly farm, forest walks. Ross is also very dog friendly. Had a lovely holiday.
Wonderful place to relax and unwind. My husband and I have just spent 2 fantastic weeks in this gorgeous converted barn. Minutes from Ross on Wye, yet deep in the Hereford countryside . Very well equiped throughout, although I would agree with other reviewers that a bit more comfort is needed downstairs in the kitchendiningseating area. We made full use of the farm shop at the end of the lane and the farm itself is a delight to walk around with easy access to walks along the river Wye and plenty of walks in all directions from the village. Jo the owner was very welcoming. Friendly and informative, nothing was too much trouble. We hope to revisit in the future.

Fantastic property well equipped and a great location. Would recommend to anyone looking for a break near to ross on wye.
We absolutely fell in love with the Hayloft. It was the perfect place and setting for our 3 day family breakaway with my twin sister and our 3 teenagers and a dog. The secluded garden was great for the dog to roam and for the teenagers to play ball games. We ventured from there to GoApe, Pedalabikeaway and the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford. We were impressed with the nearby well stocked honesty shop and enjoyed the local walk through the farm to the River Wye. My sister agreed that the Hayloft was the ideal home where we'd like to live. It had a wonderful feel, oozed rustic charm and was simply beautiful. We felt supremely catered for and warmly welcomed. Thank you!!!
Claire
Cosy and comfortable cottage in a lovely quiet location. The cottage has everything you needwith a super little outside, enclosed garden. The beautiful market town of Ross on Wye with some gorgeous shops, restaurants and pubs is just an hour or so walk along the river. We really enjoyed our stay, Thank you!
Very unique accommodation totally different to any other property used in the past. This property is very rustic with all the modern appliances. Well looked after warm and comfortable.
Matthew
Nice relaxing stay over new year, loads of walks and Ross is close enough to walk to. The Hayloft is a great place, well equipped and nicely furnished, perfect for a cosy winter hideaway. Thanks Jo!
Cosy get away accommodation, high standards, local amenities. Definitely stay again .
Frances
Quirky property, sympathetically renovated in a beautiful location. Our stay would have been enhanced if the living area had been more comfy and there had been a wardrobe in the master bedroom. The outside area and bar are great for the summer.
Judith
Enjoyable stay. Quiet and central location. Kitchen fully equipped. Beds comfortable. Owner provided cake and lovely garden flowers as table decoration. Compact area if 6 adults staying. Dog gates would be useful for the stairs
Stephanie
Lovely unique accomodation and a good location. Well equipped kitchen. Two bathrooms ideal for up to 6. Cute garden perfect for the weather and secure for any size dog.
Great property. Great area. Great holiday!
We really enjoyed our stay the Hayloft was comfortable and clean. We had everything we required for our stay. I would recommend only the following for future guests bring some indoor 'grippy' shoes as the floors are cold downstairs and the wooden floors and stair not suitable for walking around in socks. Maybe a note for the owners to provide lighter duvets for the beds in summer as we were too hot with winter duvets. But an excellent base for exploring the Wye Valley
Katrina
Beautiful location hayloft is very relaxing
Michaela
Lovely place . Unusual, charming and very comfortable Jo was very kind and thoughtful Farm shop just up the road was also a treat and good to support as its a regenerative farm go look for the mural I slept in the bedroom downstairs and loved watching the big trees in the breeze I think the only thing we missed were some more deckchairs only 2 and perhaps I bit more colour in the garden but that might be a deliberate choice ?
Great place to stay, interesting and comfortable. Very well provisioned with with materials for everyday life, Location excellent for touring the Welsh Borders
What an absolutely delightful stay at the Hayloft. Quietly set down a country lane but also close to amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome cake left for us. Everything you need is catered for. Sympathetic dcor with a modern twist. Not sure the photo's do the place justice. Perfectly situated for scenic walks. We looked up local circular walks and we were not disappointed. The welcome pack was very informative. Fabulous, we will return and recommend. Thank you. Mags
Property was perfect. Lovely place for our short break to go out walking. Clean and well presented. Facilities were spot on with two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, comfy lounge and condiments for catering. Lovely touch with flowers and a cake to greet us. Great checking in and out instructions.
Great property! This is our second visit and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Peaceful, rural retreat in a character property. Everything you can need is there and we will be returning.
Michael
Owners lived nearby and were extremely helpful with a few queries .
We had a lovely week at The Hayloft one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds very incredibly comfortable and the whole place had a lovely, warm and cosy feel to it. The space has been really well thought through and created a real sense of space for a family with two teenage boys. The style is relaxed and friendly and the carrot cake was delicious! A really lovely place to stay would heartily recommend.
Lesley
We all enjoyed our stay in this cosy barn conversion . Beds very comfortable and bed linen very nice . Dog proof garden . Could have done with white goods instructions for us older ones !
We stayed at the Hayloft for three nights to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The property is absolutely beautiful, located in an extremely peaceful setting. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and will be looking to return in the near future!
Gorgeous house in a beautiful part of the country. Highly recommended.
Lovely, quirky and unforgettable holiday retreat!
We had a fantastic week at the Hayloft which is a beautiful, quirky barn conversion - loved by the adults, teenagers and dog! A beautiful location, with secure walled garden, a farm shop around the corner and walks from the doorstep. A great base to relax and unwind in comfort as well as explore this beautiful part of the countryside. Great paddle boarding in Symonds Yat, river swimming at Sellack and some great market towns and pubs nearby. We will definitely return in the winter to try out the log burner - not necessary this holiday with temperatures hitting 30 degrees! Thank you to Jo and Al for the useful tips and advice.
We loved our stay at the Hayloft, it was quirky, and comfortable and very convenient for Ross on Wye and other attractions. The beds were lovely and the secure garden was fantastic for our dog, we could mostly leave him to potter around knowing that he was secure. Would definitely return.
Myriam
We like the quirky aspect of the Hayloft. The local farm shop small near by was a good extra. The garden was dog proof which is very useful! We would definitely stay again.
Gillian
Great location. Peaceful setting.
Lovely rustic charm. Only criticism is both toilets are on the ground floor. Beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped.
Jo was very helpful . Amazing small farm shop very close with gorgeous goats and lambs to feed. Encouraged to walk through the farm to a Stunning bluebell walk.!
The cottage has been updated inline with todays normal family requirements 9 dishwasher, wifi etc but has managed to retain its character and comfort.
The Hayloft is very comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. This was our second visit and would definitely stay again. Fresh flowers and some delicious chocolate brownies were a lovely welcoming touch. Thank you.
Adrian
This was our first time visiting Herefordshire and The Hayloft proved to be a lovely retreat. Cosy and warm with lovely interior features. The addition of the fridge freezer and washing machine in the wood shed was most welcome. The property proved to be a great base for exploring the local countryside. We would definitely consider returning here to holiday in the future.
Great cottage, well equipped. well situated in quiet village location, but with easy access to Ross. lots of walks to explore the locality with our Springer Spaniel. would recommend.
We loved the Hayloft. The furnishings and fittings were very much in keeping with the ethos of the place but nevertheless very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and worked well. Shower small but size dictated by the building and great to have a shower as well as separate bathroom. We were lucky with weather and spent a lot of time for coffee and lunch in the delightful outside court yard. Separate lodge type edifice in the garden great to keep our bike in and also housing another fridge freezer. Very pleasant walks around the village with lots of footpaths, delightful church building being turned into a community facility. Not dramatic countryside but lots of it and cycle ride into Ross each morning very convenient missing out all main roads. All all, a very clever conversion or rebuild making a super holiday retreat.
