Squirrel's Nest Reviews

Really nice place, we will definitely come back
We stayed in March. The cleanliness was shocking for what you pay. The windows were filthy there was cobwebs everywhere and dust on all kitchen appliances they needed a good wash to use them. The hot tub was broken but the owner came down and sorted it that evening. The bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned from the previous occupants. I think if the owners spent the time to inspect after the cleaners had been in and paid a bit more attention to detail we would definitely return but we are not willing to pay over 600 for 3 night to clean before we cook and use the facility.

We stayed at squirrels nest from the 22nd 3rd Jan so all through Christmas and new year. On arrival we were disappointed that there was no Christmas tree or no decorations up considering it was Christmas, but after me messaging the owner they brought one two days later . Also it cost me 300 in logs 6 logs small bundle of flint and 4 squares of firelighters over the 12 days 200 was to keep the cabin warm even tho there was 3 small electric radiator in the cabin down stairs upstairs was very cold with no heating so the log burner had to be used each day to keep it at a comfortable temperature.and 100 for the owner to come lite the Hottub each day , no chemicals were used to keep the Hottub hygiene over 12 days . We wasnt contacted over the 12 days if we needed clean sheets or towels etc.. hospitality wasnt Great if Im honest . Best regards, Mercedes .

Squirrels Nest was a true delight! !! Everything about the lodge was cosy, comforting and perfectly idyllic. We stayed for 2 nights as a minimoon a couple of days after our wedding, we booked very last minute but everything was accepted smoothly. Unfortunately the hot tub wasnt working, but weve been compensated for this. Theres plenty to do around the area but you can also stay in the lodge and create your own entertainment! I have been raving about our stay to family and friends since as we really loved our stay! But if there is anything that I would like to improve upon it would be firstly to have some form of welcome pack in the lodge, with info on whats going on, where we can eat, things to do etc. and also to secure the gardens more, this would make it even more dog friendly!!! It would have been lovely to let our pup off his lead so he could be free to run about, but the gardens arent fully secure so we had to keep him on a lead at all times. Its not a huge problem but a secure garden would make this even better than it already is! Regardless, we will be coming back for sure!!!!!
Really great stay owners were brilliant. Really helpful and approachable.
Lovely property in equally as lovely surroundings. So peaceful and private.
Lovely place with views over fields. Good privacy on the decking and for the hot tub for any naturists out there too. Very likely that we will book again. Be aware that the rail line is adjacent to the site but very few if any trains ran during sleeping hours during our stay.

The lodge was amazing! Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to stop in such a great location. The facilities provided were unmatched and everything was just managed so well. Will definitely be coming back again!
Everything was as listed! We had such a great time and would love to come again. The place was beautiful, comfortable and exactly what we needed. The hot tub was amazing! The only thing id mention to improve is the cleanliness of the kitchen utensils cups as there were a couple dirty ones and also the cabin windows need a clean. But overall that did not affect our stay and we are happy we booked the Lodge.
I stayed here for a week with my brother and we will be coming back, we stayed in the squirrels nest cabin, there is a fairshade wood just 10 minute drive that is perfect for dog walking or hiking.
The location and the lodge were beautiful however a shame about a few things that would have made the stay closer to perfect. Cleanliness whilst it wasnt dirty it wasnt up to the standard I would expect for the cost, dirty windows, cobwebs and dust Train tracks very close to the train tracks so sleep wasnt always guaranteed to be restful, alongside the poor quality mattress Fresh water dippIng this was advertised as available however the platform for this was still under construction on our visit Plenty of pros also, owners were very friendly, location and lodge were beautiful, very relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful part of the country

Great property, stylishly designed, kitted out with everything you could need for a lovely relaxing retreat. host was great, hot tub was great, thoroughly recommended.

Upon arrival the host greeted us and ensured he passed on all relative information, including close by dog walks for our dog. He was very friendly and helpful and also kept the hot tub warm through out our whole stay. The Lodge was absolutely beautiful with lots of little touches and big garden space. We will definitely be returning next year.
Beautiful cabin, friendly, helpful owners. Wild swimming may be a future thing, but not yet as the stream is small and inaccessible, however, the site is new and that will change, I am sure. Only tiny criticism is that some kitchen appliances toaster, airfryer are on top of tall cupboards!! Would love to go back sometime xx

Beautiful location and surroundings so peaceful great for a break away. Loved the space outside the lodge. Lack of storage in kitchen and no real wardrobe space. Feel the listing of the lodge and facilities isnt correct really does need updating and to inc the train line immediately behind and ongoing works on site didnt bother us a we also have a train line nearby to where I live Lodge felt un finished needs tweaking needs blinds over main door and high windows also needs steps onto the decking. If you go in summer take fly spray with you! Lovely for a break away.

Squirrels nest is great. Clean, spacious, excellent mod cons. Wonderful location for exploring the area.
A fantastic lodge for all the family, so relaxing my girls loved the upstairs room every kids dream. Dog friendly, nice and close to Rutland aqua park which my girls also loved. The hot tub was fab and the fire pit so cosy. Allan the manager was very welcoming and friendly setting up the hot tub everyday. We had a very relaxing holiday and will defo be back and would highly recommend this lodge.
Myself and my friends had a lovely time here, we really enjoyed the privacy provided when in our cabin in the garden area. The cabin itself was lovely, hot tub was fantastic and already heated for us when we arrived! The only thing would be I wish there was a bit of cabinet space for our food that doesnt belong in the fridge but thats so trivial anyway, everything else was perfect! Owners were so lovely and would love to come back one day.

Absolutely loved the Lodge and surrounding area. Really nice owners on site. Hot tub was amazing.. Maybe a welcome pack with information on area and shops , pubs etc and some info on Lodge heating operation would be a nice addition. These are not faults, just trying to help you going forward, one last tip would be to have someone clean windows as this would increase the outlook of the lovely views.
We stayed over bank holiday weekend. The owner was extremely friendly and polite, her was very accommodating. I would 100 recommend this place for people to stay, very good value for money. Weve really enjoyed our stay.
As advertised. The property owner was very kind & informative, always approachable if needed, very welcoming. Would definitely visit again & recommend to family & friends. Surpassed expectations! Thank you.

Stayed with 6 girls over the weekend, had an amazing time throughout our stay, facilities were great, very well furnished and very local to pubs, Rutland water and supermarkets. Will definitely be returning!!
Very highly recommended. Allen is a fabulous host & the cabin offers everything you could wish you & much more. It's a beautiful & tranquil setting & definitely worth staying. Absolutely loved every minute & can't wait to go back.
The lodge was clean and modern throughout, equipped with everything we needed. Our host was lovely, keeping the hot tub going for us for the duration of our stay!
Gorgeous lodge with everything you need. Really beautiful location and great for walking. The pub isnt far too. The owners are lovely and really helpful and also ensured the hot tub was hot for the evenings. They also have outdoor heaters you can use too. Would really recommend.
