The river towpath is just a quarter of a mile from your doorstep, offering an easy-to-follow route through the countryside with ample opportunities for sightseeing and wildlife spotting. Along its banks, explore Gunthorpe Nature Reserve (0.5 miles) before heading into the village of Gunthorpe to enjoy a local pub or restaurant.

A little further afield, both Gedling Country Park (5 miles) and Cotgrave Country Park (7.5 miles) provide plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors, with acres of wetland, grassland, and lakes to explore. When you’ve had your fill of the great outdoors, head into Nottingham (8.5 miles) for city-centre shopping, bars, and restaurants.

Crazy Crocodiles Indoor Play & Party Centre - LL30 1DR

This is an all weather attraction located in Ilkeston Derbyshire.  With a large play frame as well as bikes and ride on toys this is a fun place for young children.  The toddler time sessions take place during term times on week days from 9.30am until 2.30pm and are very popular. The admission fee is excellent value for money and parents can sit down and enjoy a drink while the children play. A new baby changing facility has now been installed together with some new chairs making this a clean and welcoming attraction for families.  Look out for offers on their website such as a free hot drink on select days.
Denby Visitor Centre - DE5 8NX

Denby visitor centre is a fun day out in the Derbyshire region with an array of activities iunder one roof.  An all weather attraction you can take pottery tours, see cookery demonstrations and visit Bourne's restaurant.  There are events and offers on throughout the year for example the Denby factory Shops sale where you can save £££s and October Creepy Crypt for Halloween where you can go along in fancy dress and have your face painted.  Booking is advised so check out the latest details on their website.

This is a top class theme park with plenty to do for the whole family.  From thrilling rides to more gentle activities for the little ones this place is ideal.  The best thing is that 50% of their attractions are under cover so the British weather needn't spoil the fun.
Heights of Abraham - DE4 3PT

This unique attraction combines an array of activities.  If you have a look on their website there are some good video clips which give an even better idea of what this attraction is all about.  Some of the highlights include the Cable Car system which is actually Britain's first alpine style cable car system.  You are transported from the valley floor right up above where you can enjoy superb Dewent Valley Views.  You can also stroll around 60 acres of wooded hillside on foot to see an array of birds and wildlife.
Gulliver's Kingdome - WA5 9YZ

Gulliver's Kingdome is a family friendly theme park offering many attractions for children of all ages. The site is rather unique and features a huge array of rides including log flumes, roller coasters and pirate ships. For the little ones there are rides such as the veteran cars and the balloon wheel and Diego and Dora the Explorer are on hand to make sure they are having a great time. Between the 21st and 31st of October the park becomes a spooky Halloween spectacular with a range of shows and fireworks to enjoy. Standard prices are £12.00 for adults and children over 90cm. Conkers is an award winning attraction located in the midst of the National Forest.  Combining both indoor and outdoor activities this is an all weather attraction in the Peak District.  It's really easy to get to as well, just 5 miles from Junction 11 off the M42.  Designed for all ages some of the highlights include the Enchanted Forest Adventure play area and a simulated Tree Top walk.  Look out for special seasonal events such as October half term and the Annual Halloween Party.  At the moment you can receive a fantastic discount if you book your tickets online.
