An inviting retreat set near the fringes of the picturesque Lake District National Park, this characterful hideaway suits families and couples. Sleeping five guests, the three-bedroom cottage is situated in Papcastle, 1 mile from the charming market town of Cockermouth.
Potter in the shops, pause for a pint in a local pub and visit Wordsworth House and Garden, the birthplace and childhood home of renowned Romantic poet William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy. Head 7 miles into the national park to arrive on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake.
Venture 6 miles to explore Whinlatter Forest, with its footpaths, mountain biking trails and adventure play areas. Bustling Keswick, on Derwentwater, is 15 miles away.
Here you can hire canoes, take a cruise and book tickets to see a show at the Theatre by the Lake. Allonby Beach, popular with walkers, is 9 miles from the cottage.
Pull in to the front of the cottage and step through the front door into the small foyer. Hang your coats and kick off your boots before ambling through to the utility room to pop any damp walking gear straight into the washing machine.
There is a useful WC here too. Also leading from the foyer is the welcoming beamed kitchen/diner, where a wood burner sits within a stone surround.
This space features everything you need to conjure up hearty Cumbrian feasts for your group with the tasty produce you have sourced close by. Light the wood burner and dine in its cosy glow.
While away your evenings together in the lounge, settled on the comfortable sofas in front of the Smart TV, or in the airy, timber-framed garden room, where you can read your books and look out over the garden. When you are ready to turn in for the night, climb the stairs up to the first floor of the cottage, where your three thoughtfully finished bedrooms are positioned.
