About Dove Cottage

Dove Cottage is a charming, three-storey property based near the delightful town of Ambleside in Cumbria. This property boasts ground-floor living, EV charging, Smart TVs, and countryside views - with roadside parking for two cars available, this holiday abode is well-suited for a family getaway or a small group looking to enjoy the Lake District.

Walk into the kitchen/diner area, where you can cook up a storm using the electric oven, induction hob, microwave, and fridge. In the sitting area, sink into a sofa or an armchair with a film on the Smart TV.

Head outside to the garden to take in the beaming sun whilst sipping a drink. When the sun slips away in the evening, fall into a second-floor super-king-size (zip/link) or ground-floor king-size bed to settle down for the night, both equipped with Smart TVs.

There is a ground-floor bathroom and second-floor shower room to get ready in the morning before plenty of fun activities. Close-by, there are shops for essentials, as well as ample pubs for a little drink, such as the Golden Rule - just a short distance from your property.

In Ambleside, be sure to go to the glorious Loughrigg Fell for some challenging walks or possibly a dip in the glistening lake. Stock Ghyll Force also has some magnificent waterfall views to see, whilst Go Ape Grizedale allows the kids to blow off steam by swinging from tree to tree.

In Windermere, go for a sail on Britain’s largest lake or even some scuba diving in Lake Windermere. There is the Windemere Jetty Museum for some boat trips, or admire the gorgeous countryside on a Lakeland Pony Trek, making a new best friend.

Slightly further afield, the beauty of Keswick should catch your eye. The kids will love meeting a new furry friend at Alpacaly Ever After.

Dove Cottage Reviews

Rachel
Beautiful, small but well appointed kitchen. Lovely bedrooms. Gorgeous views down to lake Windermere.
My daughter and I had 5 nights in this lovely cottage in October 2025. Having 2 spacious bedrooms was a treat. One in the basement and one upstairs, both with their own bathrooms not ensuite. Beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows. The fixtures and fittings throughout were of high quality and the cottage was clean and comfortable. We did need to use the heating which kept it warm and cosy. Plenty of hot water. The kitchen and lounge might be snug for 4 adults, but still comfortable. Parking outside wasn't an issue. As mentioned in other reviews, it is a walk up hill to get home, but that is similar to many properties in Ambleside. The location was very convenient, a short walk to shops and restaurants. The addition of pocket torches provided in the kitchen was very welcomed as we hadn't brought any and the shoe drying rack was very effective in front of the radiator. The downstairs bedroom and kitchen have tiled floors so bring slippers. The only thing to note is no freezer. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider rebooking this property the next time we visit the Lake District.

Lovely property. Very clean, well equipped and appointed to a high standard. There was no rating on the booking website when we booked, I think due to it not having enough reviews yet. In our opinion it was 4.9 to 5 out of 5. One of the best properties we have stayed at in Ambleside. Like many properties in Ambleside the location involves a hill, but if you are a walker then you will be fine.
We had a lovely long stay in August. A really well equipped cottage with a great little outside area. The downstairs feels like a spa, the bathroom is fabulous. Both showers were excellent. The beds are extremely comfortable, the kitchen is really nice to cook in. Just a short walk in to the centre of Ambleside where theres plenty of places to eat and get supplies. We had no trouble at all parking outside the cottage even though its on road parking. In summary lovely cottage, great location. We loved our stay.
A lovely traditional cottage from the outside, the interior is modern, fully and recently refurbished, with a wellequipped kitchen, smart TVs and fast broadband. It is just a quiet 7 min walk to the centre of town and yes, uphill on the way back, but hills are why you are here, and the lane views more than compensate. The layout is excellent for sharers or a family bedrooms are first floor and lower ground, allowing each privacyseparation, and each separately has a large modern bathroom, plus a storagehanging area for the lower and a little deskbreakout room for the upper. On the ground floor between, the kitchen might be a little snug if four occupants suddenly wanted to cook at the same time, but the open lounge is plenty big enough for all and has a Mere view!. The beds were very comfy with top quality bedding this poor sleeper was out like the proverbial every night zzz. If you havent had enough fresh air out walking, the lower ground floor opens onto a goodsized private patio with seating. There is no reserved parking, but this is a quiet lane away from the tourist hubbub we got a space outside every day, and neighbours were friendly and accommodating. The cottage has an electric car charger brilliant there are not too many around Ambleside itself. Ambleside is, of course, fabulous, and this is a super cottage from which to enjoy everything the area has to offer.
A lovely cottage with beautiful views of Ambleside and lake Windermere. Modern facilities combined with the charm you would expect from a traditional cottage. Maintained very well. Short walk into Ambleside centre. And on the walk to Sweden Bridge. Definitely worth staying and would highly recommend it.
