Herdwick Croft Reviews

Sam
We had a lovely stay! The location was perfect for our first trip to the lakes. The property is a bit dated, but it’s super well-equipped for families and very clean. The kids adored the games roomand the spa was a real treat. The host shared some fantastic local tips for eating out and things to do, which made our week even better. Overall, a great base to explore this beautiful area!

We had such a lovely stay! The place felt warm and welcoming, perfect for our family. Honestly, none of us wanted to go home. Can’t wait to come back!

We stayed at this place and found it to be really spacious and in a lovely spot, which was great. The bedrooms were comfy and the living areas felt cosy. However, the house was poorly maintained - broken windows, a curtain rail hanging looseand wet laundry still in the dryer when we arrived. The games room wasn’t much better, with a ripped pool table cover and a dartboard missing darts. Such a shame, as it could be fantastic if the upkeep was better!

We really enjoyed the stunning waterside location, perfect if you're into water sports. The games room was a hit with the kids, which was great. The place could do with a bit more TLC and a cleaner feel-living in a Victorian house ourselves, we get how tricky it is. Some small improvements would make a difference, but overall we'd happily come back if we're nearby again. Nice spot, just needs a bit of sprucing up!
Sam
We enjoyed our stay overall. The house was nice and warm once we fired up the heating, though it could do with a good deep clean. The kitchen was modern and well-stocked, which was great. The pool table had a torn cloth, but it didn’t really spoil the fun-though missing balls, especially the black one, was a bit of a pain. If you're planning to use the dartboard, bring your own darts since all of theirs were broken. Showers worked fineand we just staggered ours to avoid any issues. Would stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The kitchen, diningand lounge areas were spacious and comfy. There are some lovely walks nearby, which we loved. The heating kept us cosy during the chilly nights. The only downside was the water pressure and showers, which weren’t great for our group of eight. Herwick Willy’s bistro next door was fantastic-great simple menu and lovely breakfasts. Definitely the best bar and restaurant we've seen at a caravan site!
Emma
We loved the spot! Just a quick stroll to the lake-perfect for paddleboarding and wild swimming. Whinlatter’s mountain biking trails are nearbyand Keswick is such a charming town with plenty to explore. The house was cosy and spacious for the price. The no WiFi and 4G was a nice break for the kids!

Really loved the peaceful spot by the lake, perfect for paddling. The owner was super helpfuland having spa access was a bonus. We slept really well!

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 0 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 15 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 18 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 19 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 28 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
