About The Captains Cabin

Lose yourselves in the astounding views out along the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast from this group retreat near Raw. Sleeping eight guests, the four-bedroom retreat is ideal for an extended family break or a holiday with friends, especially if there are members of your party who would enjoy the privacy of their own annexe.

Nestled in an enviable position, with both sea and countryside vistas, this magical hideaway, just 1 mile from Robin Hood’s Bay, comes with gorgeous gardens and a hot tub. Let yourselves in via the porch, where you can leave your sandy flip-flops or muddy boots.

Stroll into the open-plan kitchen/diner to take in the incredible scenery as you cook, dine and indulge in quality time together. Slid the doors to the balcony open on fine summer days so you can step out into the sea air.

Relax on the chic Italian sofas as you watch the Smart TV and enjoy the warmth of the wood burner. A WC, family bathroom and three of your bedrooms are also within the main cottage.

These include two stylish king-sizes and a twin. The adjoining annexe encompasses self-contained accommodation for two of your group.

Here you will find a king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, plus a lounge/kitchenette, with a Smart TV. The enclosed garden is very much a highlight of this unique retreat.

Here you can grill on the BBQ then unwind in the hot tub or beside the firepit as the sun goes down. There is also a pergola and summerhouse.

This cottage has private off-road parking for four cars. Visit historic Whitby, 5 miles away, with its sandy beaches and dramatic abbey ruins.

Follow a section of the scenic Cleveland Way out along the cliffs or venture into the North York Moors for equally exciting walks.

The Captains Cabin Reviews

Rebecca
Wow what a beautiful place and an absolutely spectacular view! This cottage was absolutely perfect for us and the added bonus of the separate little annexe was fantastic. The cottage is so well equipped and the hosts had left us some lovely treats. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. The garden was gorgeous for the dogs, although one of them is an escape artist so it wasnâ??t quite secure enough for him to roam free but he still loved exploring it on his lead. Just all in all a gorgeous spot.
Marie
Perfect location, the views of Robin Hoods Bay from the windows and back garden are stunning!
Alan
Well equipped cottage, excellent sea view
Mary
Lovely house, we really enjoyed our stay. The view is amazing, hot tub fantastic, games room provided great entertainment. The dog had fun chasing the rabbits in the garden, it was lovely seeing all of the wildlife - bats, owls, the bluetits in the nest box outside the kitchen window. It wasn't great for our elderly mother in law who had limited mobility, the annex was planned for her but it's under the main house accessed by stone steps with no handrail, so she couldn't access the garden or summer house either, or the patio as the two steps down from the sliding doors are very steep. Apart from that it was perfect for the rest of us! The welcome treats were very much appreciated, thank you!
Toni
An excellent cottage for both amenities and views
Matthew
Amazing property within a beautiful and scenic location. You could spend a week taking in the views! Owners have gone above and beyond to make this spectacular holiday home. Would highly recommend to anyone whether group of friends or full family. Plenty to keep everyone entertained at the property, plus Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough are very easily accessible. 10/10, will definitely stay again!

We arrived early evening and were a bit worried about arriving in the dark. We were so happy to find the place lit up with welcoming lights, first impressions were very good. It was clean and tidy, high quality appliances and furniture and bedrooms very comfortable. The view over Robin Hoods Bay was amazing. The hot tub was running and we were so happy to be able to use it on the first night. On a clear night, sitting in the hot tub with the stars above was so relaxing. Our dog was able to wander around the garden and felt very at home. We didnâ??t use the garden room but looked lovely, or the BBQâ?¦.. maybe we will come back in the summer months for longer to enjoy those too. The location is perfect for walking to the Bay in about 30 mins (4 minutes in the car) and a 9 minute drive from Whitby. Can highly recommend. Absolutely lovely property.

Excellent accommodation, well furnished with everything you need. Loved the superb views from the large widows allowing lots of natural light throughout the lounge. Great outside space with a huge garden area and raised patio.

The Grainary Wildlife Farm - YO25 3HS
about 6 Miles
Located in Harwood Dale Village, North Yorkshire we think this attraction makes a superb family day out and couples will also enjoy the nature walks in the area.  There are 6 nature walks in total surrounding the farm so walkers and lovers of the outdoors will be in their element. Some of our favourite walks include the Spring Flowers, Pond and Village walk which takes around 35 minutes, and the Meadow and Trees walk which takes one hour.
Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 11 Miles
If you are enjoying a lodge break in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast then a day trip to the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary highly recommended. This centre is one of the regions most popular attractions and is educational as well as fun. Visitors will enjoy a journey beneath the waves, meeting many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. As well as mighty sharks and beautiful rays guests can get up close to some more common creatures including star fish and can also meet the otters, seals and penguins at feeding time. The site also has children's play area and picnic tables as well as a restaurant and souvenir shop. Family tickets cost £46.80 but the Tourist Information Centres in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey often offer fantastic discounts.
Sea Life Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 11 Miles
Located in the Scalby Mills area of Scarborough this makes a fun family day out for those who are interested in marine life. The fantastic ocean tank is well worth seeing - it's been transformed into a Turtle Reef and you can see an amazing array of colourful reef fish and coral. You may also catch a glimpse of the tropical sharks and turtles. Offering good value for money this is a day out with a difference and an all weather attraction.
Peasholm Park - YO12 6QQ
about 11 Miles
This attraction is ideal for sunny days as the beautiful park is ideal for wandering out and taking in the scenery.  You can hire boats including rowing boats and canoes to enjoy the views from the water.  The pedalos with the dragon heads are always a popular choice too. Look out for special events including the Battle of Peasholm Park Naval Battle which has been described as a "must see".  You can also take a ride on the North Bay Railway which will delight children.
Betton Farm Visitor Centre - TF9 3PS
about 13 Miles
Betton Farm Visitor Centre is the ideal attraction close to the North Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough. This animal farm has all the cute farm animals you would expect to see and will appeal to younger children especially.  A great place to both play and learn we think the Betton Farm Visitor centre is great value for money.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs.  Some of the highlights of the day might include meeting Sofie the Shetland Pony and Henry the goat, as well as the pot bellied pigs called Porky and Hammy.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW
about 19 Miles
Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
Castle Howard - YO60 7DA
about 26 Miles
Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.
