Discover some of the best walks in the Dales from this idyllic farm cottage. It’s just 200 metres across meadows from the River Wharfe – cross the water at nearby Barden Bridge to join the Dales Way, or stroll down the road a little further south to find the ruins of Barden Tower, one of six hunting lodges on the Bolton Abbey Estate.
Deeper within the estate, The Strid is a notorious stretch of water in a wildlife-rich woodland, while 3 miles from your doorstep, you can explore the ancient priory church and ruins. A similar distance north, Parcevall Hall has a renowned plantsman’s garden that rises up a hillside and offers wonderful views in every direction.
En route, the village of Appletreewick (2.5 miles) is full of charm and has two welcoming inns. Less than 7 miles away, Grassington is home to the National Park Visitor Centre and offers a fine choice of shops, eateries and a regular farmers’ market.
Serving up an authentic taste of country life, this characterful cottage welcomes guests straight into a beautiful, relaxing social space. Work your culinary magic in the farmhouse-style kitchen, then take a seat at the dining suite to eat and discuss your next day’s adventures.
One step up from here, the living room has a choice of comfortable sofas and a TV. Light the wood burner for added ambience after dark; exposed timbers bring more warm tones to this open-plan area.
The cottage has two bathrooms – both on the ground floor. When you’re ready to retire for the night, there are three enchanting bedrooms; two of which are on the ground floor - king-size and a twin room.
Ancient beams are an attractive feature on the lovely landing, which is open to one of the king-sized bedrooms and overlooks the lounge area. The remaining king-size bedroom can be found on the first floor.
