The Orangery Reviews

Michael
We had a most lovely week in The Orangery we will never forget! Everything was perfect, the cottage fitted like a favourite suit. We hope to return in the future and will leave a very positive description on the net whereever possible. Thanks for all! Antje and Michael from Berlin
We absolutely love our time at The Orangery. It is perfect for us and our dog, Axel. There is so much to see, beaches forestswoods stone circles castles it's a great location. The Orangery is well equipped and a lovely indoor outdoor space to enjoy, with wildlife on your doorstep
The Orangery exceeded our expectations. The photos dont do it justice. It was spotless, cosy and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen. The views were stunning especially when the snow arrived. Jimmy went out of his way to make us feel welcome even inviting us to spend New Years Eve with himself and his friends. Hopefully we will return but would thoroughly recommend The Orangery if you are looking for peace and tranquillity.

Lovely comfortable , immaculately clean , holiday property in the countryside. It is well appointed with comfy bed , fluffy towels , WiFi , pleasant lounge, fully equipped kitchen. The Orangery is a great base for exploring there is plenty of walks to do. We visited Delgatie Castle, Aden Country Park, Craigston Castle, a little further away to visit is Haddo House Country Park and Balmedie Country Park and Beach. We loved it and we look forward to returning in the future.
Lovely peaceful stay at The Orangery. Comfortable, clean accommodation for 2 people and our dog with everything we needed. We enjoyed some pleasant walks nearby...Fyvie Castle, Craigston Castle and Cullen Beach to Bow Fiddle Rock in mostly lovely weather for November. We had a lovely lunch with great food and very friendly welcome at the cafe at Portsoy harbour.
I booked the cottage a year in advance, i had seen on sykes some poor feedback when i boomed, and we took with a pinch of salt. We loved our 2 weeks here. The cottage is easy to find on satnav, vast grounds for our dog to wander on in the day. We didnt use the hot tub so can't feedback, the cottage itself is cosy and warm and everything you need is there even with cleaning products, tea towels etc i always bring my own but much appreciated the bed is comfy and warm at night, best nights sleep we had. The orangery we didn't sit in at all but i'm sure some people choose to sit in it with the fire on at night. A lovely cottage and fully recommend and would definately return.
Thank you for a great stay, it was our first visit to Aberdeenshire. ....we will definitely be back. The Orangery exceeded our expectations. We visited with our dog it is perfect location with great facilities. We enjoyed the garden and hot tub in the sunshine. Loved the outdoorindoor Orangery, comfortable bed, lots to see and do within 30mins drive....beaches castles walks. Thank you Sue Gary & Axel
Was a lovely few days unfortunately couldn't use hot tub as weather wasn't great typical Scottish weather. Accommodation was brilliant and the welcome gift was much appreciated.
Fantastic place. Comfortable quiet. Home from home. Would like to go there again.

Lovely place to stay and a great base for exploring the coastline. Very comfy and loads of space for 2 and a dog.
What relaxing place! It really is the middle of nowhere and very quiet. Once we got the hang of the hot tub, we spent every evening in there and it was very private. The inside the Orangery is very comfortable and is a great place to relax. Turriff was a short drive away and Banff didn't take long to get to. A word of advice if you like Lorne sausage, go to Browns' butchers in Turriff world class!
At the time of writing I can confirm and dispute some of the previous reviews. I had mixed feelings about what to expect after reading the photos are inaccurate, the property is tired, the place needs a deep clean, a cupboard door is missing in the kitchen, there are no cleaning things, pegs to hang laundry, oven gloves, the lights trip out, the internet doesnt work etc etc. I literally turned up prepared with a bag full of stuff and relatively low expectations. I could have saved myself the trouble because clearly the owners had listened to a lot of the feedback. Logs were stacked by the door with matches and fire lighters provided, there was a vacuum cleaner, dish washing capsules, soap capsules for the washing machine, pegs to hang clothes, fairy liquid in the kitchen along with a dish cloth, sponge, tea towel, oven mitts, kitchen towel and a fully equipped kitchen, no kitchen door missing. There was an ironing board, iron and travel hairdryer in the bedroom and hand soap, toilet paper in the bathroom. The place was easy to find and proved to be a great base for exploring the Moray coastline or venturing a bit further for a day out in Aberdeen PeterheadElgin. Shopping for supplies at the local Tescos open until 11pm every day day except Sunday when it closes at 8pm was super easy and only a short drive away. I booked at very short notice and the owner Jamie was very accommodating in allowing me to have 2 larger dogs at the property for a small additional fee when one is the usual policy. Arriving at the property I see why it doesnt make a good impression. The first thing I saw looking for the key was an ugly green curtain hanging on a string at the front door and walking immediately into the Orangery it has to be said its not the same as the advertising photos. However theres this wonderful warm feeling that immediately envelops you and you instantly know youre going to love spending time in this place. The cottage in my opinion was clean where it needed to be. The kitchen was spotless as was the bathroom, bedroom. Its easy to forget that these properties are rented back to back with only a few hours in between to prepare. If the skirting floor boards are dusty, theres a stain on the wall, the odd cobweb, leaves floating around Im certainly not going to loose any sleep or let it effect my stay. The one issue we did have was we struggled at times with the internet to be expected considering the location it could be very slow and we found it did work better in some places than others. We also noticed neither of our mobiles had network coverage in the cottage. Overall I can say we had a wonderful week staying here. It ticked so many boxes I could happily have stayed longer and if I was to return to the area I wouldnt hesitate to stay again. Jamie and his Mum are the best kind of hosts. They are there when needed but otherwise respect youre on holiday and leave you to it

This is a little gem! The cottage is gods, but it is the orangery that makes the place. Great place to hang out in and just chill! The property has everything you need for self catering. The bath tub is the icing on the cake, but it took us three hours to heat, so start on time if youre going to use it. The only negative things are that the cleaning could have been more thorough and they where some lightbulbs out in the bathroom, which made it a bit dark.
Dennis
The property was well maintained and very clean our only need was for my wife to have a mirror in the bedroom. Most enjoyable stay.
Lesley
If you are after peace and tranquility you will find it here. The Orangery is a well equipped cottage that caters for all your needs. It is a fantastic base to explore the surrounding area. It promotes a very relaxing holiday. It is in a rural area but is close enough to local communities that we had fun exploring when out and about. We didnt need to contact Jamie but when he and his partner visited to ensure we had everything we needed they were very welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend Thank you for a fab time Lesley
Electric tripped out several times, heating never worked, several lights out, very small sofa in living room, spent most of time in orangery as more comfort, lock on sliding door from orangery to appartment did not work.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and would love to return. The area is rural which we love yet accessible to other amenities with a short drive. Jamie and Mimi were there if you needed anything. We wanted to unwind and relax and this holiday home certainly fulfilled our needs. Thanks once again.
Perfect, peace, tranquillity and nature! We absolutely loved our stay at the Orangery, it was simply perfect, from the comfortable living room, with smart TV, to the fabulous bedroom with a wonderfully comfortable bed and double doors looking out to the woods, to the fully equipped kitchen literally everything you need to cook or even bake is there!, but my favourite room to relax in was the Orangery lovely and warm with amazing views outside and fabulous light, a real little sun trap We generally spent most of our time in there apart from the time we spent in the brilliant woodfired hottub. The icing on the cake was listening to the birds singing in the evening and a rare spotting of the elusive Pine Maten. Absolutely fantastic, can't rate the Orangery highly enough! Five star plus!!!!!!! Jamie was the perfect host and the welcome treats were devoured almost immediately. Really can't wait to return to the Orangery! Thank you
Yaritza
The best vacation ever. Jimmy and the others are very friendly, helpful and are involved so that you have a nice stay. The place is simply magical and it is close to many attractions beach, mountains and towns and landscapes taken from fairy tales. 100 recommended.
Jennifer
Disappointing to read the other comments and note that still many of the same issues with the cottage. Dishwasher left big puddle on the floor, kitchen cupboard door missing, no kindling for the fire, light above mirror in bathroom only mirror not working. Place generally a bit tired and could do with some tlc. Its a lovely quiet spot and you definitely feel away from it all.
Melanie
We had a lovely stay and were very lucky with the weather so we werent in the property all day. Few things to note for improvements 1. Missing kitchen cupboard door was unsightly 2. Cob webs throughout the property and poor cleaning plaster wrapper was in the living room when we arrived 3. Lack of utensils for self catering I.e pepper, oven mitts we bought and left a salt and pepper grinder and sea salt 4. No clothes pegs so couldnt hang washing outside 5. The dishwasher leaked and had a puddle every morning in the kitchen floor, we never used the dishwasher once because of this but it was still happening 6. No cleaning products or instructions for the hot tub, if we had this we would have used it more as it got a bit dirty after each use 7. Only seating outside was 2 fairly rickety upright chairs, if there were lounge chairs it would be better as it was lovely weather when we stayed 8. Bathroom could use a good deep clean grout in tiles was very dirty 9. We had a power cut when we were there and the instructions must have been for the fuse box in the main part of the house and not the Orangery, if this could be updated that would be a big help. Luckily power came back when we were looking for a solution but we didnt have phone signal to call for assistance when the power went out
Stunning place, ideally located for access to the great walks in the area. The owner responded quickly to any issues we raised no freeview and dishwasher not working. Property had everything we needed. Great place for a relaxing holiday away from it all.
Deborah
I really enjoyed my stay, the building has real character and soul and I loved the outside for dog walks, I think my dog enjoyed the stay even more than me! Very comfortable bed, this really is important for me as I have a joint condition. I liked the kitchen and spent a lot of time there, the high ceilings in there with those upper windows are beautiful. I would return again, this place ticked a lot of boxes for me. Thanks to the owner for the welcome pack.
Antonius
It was just very beautiful and cosy. Romantik and very nice. So good to make fire and enjoy the warmness.
Another great week at The Orangery. We love the hot tub, a real treat at the end of an outdoorsy day. We explored the coast again and did some cycling from the door. Cycled to Delgatie Castle, should have set off a bit later as we were too early for their wonderful Cullen Skink. Jamie called round on our first night to check all was ok and invited us to Shepherd's Loch's Open Day. We used our National Trust membership to visit Fyvie Castle, and whilst the guided tour was geared up to those with an interest in the paranormal there was lots else to interest us and a good caf. We explored the grounds, saw red squirrels and an enormous flock of pink footed geese. We love this cottage and the surrounding area and feel sure we'll be back again

I would recommend this property to everyone , the photos don't do it any justice , it was certainly our type of stay. We lived in the Orangery , lighting the log burner for the whole week. Kitchen well equipped, bed comfy , easy to find we drove from Dorset. Lovely area and great hosts We never used the hot tub but our choice nothing wrong with it. Quirky , warm and comfortable thank you.
Really enjoyed our time away, very relaxing & comfortable
Lesley
Feel like the cottages was tired and needed up dating , also missing a few basic essentials which would improve guests stay at the cottage , The cottage needs to be cleaner windows, floors , stains on carpet etc! There are no cleaning products provided and with the cottage been a dog friendly one it could really do with a hoover left at the cottage . The photo on your site are well out of date as quite over grown outside so need up dating . We spoke to Jaime the owner about a few of these things ,
We loved The Orangery! Quirky, comfortable and in a very quiet setting but within easy reach of Turriff for supplies. YesTV reception was sometimes a touch unreliable but that didn't bother us! Would have loved to have seen the twinkly lights working in the orangery itself maybe next time!
Sylvia
The photos on your site the Oranery is nothing like the photos on your site we did enjoy our time away but the cleanliness was not that good had to clean thr kitchen before I could cook anything.
Nice owner, but more of a man of the big picture than of the details. For example on arrival, the lighting above the mirror was broken, the sink clogged and the kindling for the wood stove was missing. All electric equipment is present and it functions well. On the other hand, the chairs in the conservatory and the garden furniture in particular, need to be replaced. And what may be positive in autumn and winter, is a clear negative point in summer the conservatory gets hot after some time in the sun and is then difficult to ventilate. Finally, it is positive that there is now wellfunctioning WiFi not listed on Sykes Holiday Cottagessite.
Deborah
Great accommodation and lovely owners who couldn't do enough to ensure we got the best from our stay. peaceful and quirky could of been 100miles from anywhere but wasn't as local town provided everything we needed and location is a great base to discover Aberdeenshire.
Sandra
Not up to Sykes Standards, as we have previous cottages.
Great place very relaxing
We loved The Orangery! Jamie was very helpful! Perfect for a relaxing week away. Hope to return sometime soon.
Fantastic!
What a fantastic stay we had! Lovely place, nothing amiss. Cosy and quirky with just the right level of comfort. Felt very well looked after. Secluded enough to relax and close enough to lots of beaches, viewpoints etc to explore and go on endless walks. All amenities, shops etc in close by Turriff too. Will come back to sit by this fireplace!
Nicola
Loved our stay here. On the owners advice we went to the northern coast which was stunning. If you are looking for somewhere to kick back, relax and get away from the rat race, this is ideal. Loads of countryside to walk around by the cottage itself and surrounding area. The dog had an absolute ball. Could have done with additional seating in the lounge but other than that, the facilities were spot on. Had everything we needed. Look forward to visiting again later in the year for sure.
We had a lovely stay over Christmas at The Orangery. We had everything we needed. Jamie was very welcoming and popped by a couple of times to make sure all was OK. We didn't get around to visiting his farm so will look forward to that next time. We really loved the conservatory space. It was beautifully lit with lots of twinkle lights and was nice to sit at the wood burner in the evening while our dog ran about with his toys. The eco hot tub was fantastic, we were in it most nights. It took a few hours to heat up, but well worth your patience, just keep stoking it up as it burns through the wood pretty quickly. We found using smaller logs produced more flame which heated up the water quicker. We felt the living area would benefit from adding an armchair. There are lots of walks around the area, the forest walks were amazing and our dog had a great time investigating every inch along the way. All in all we loved our stay and will definitely be coming back.
